2 state button from layers!?!

Hi guys,
I'm quite an amateur in fireworks so excuse me if my
questions seems silly.
So my problem is that I'm building a website and I have 2
states for my menu buttons imported from .psd file - normal and
when button is pressed. These two conditions of the buttons are in
different layers.
I've tried to make slices of each button but when I slice the
entire menu these sub-slices become fictitious and FW doesn't
export the buttons as separate images from the menu. And still I
have image as I've only sliced the menu only :(
I appreciate any help

Right - I never do it that way, though.
I always select and then right click on the slice. Call me
quirky, but it
works. 8)

Creating buttons from layers in photoshop document

I know this should be simple but I am having some trouble. If someone could take the time to explain this. I created a menu in Photoshop (buttons and all) and just need to know how to let DVDSP know which layers I want as buttons. And if there is anything I should know about color mapping too. But it sounds like you want a simple overlay? For simple overlays it is best to use flattened picts or tifs and not use a Photoshop file and point to the layer that you want as an overlay.

Animation from layers

I'm tying to make an animation from layers in Photoshop 6, but when I use the timeline window, the "convert frames' options as well as other options are greyed. It doesn't grey when I open a video file.
I'm tried using JPEG and GIF files as the layers, but am unsure what I'm to do at this point.

The timeline palette handles two type of animations. Frame Animations and Video Timeline. Each mode has different option and option will gray out when they are not current available for some required condition or state does not exists. Some examples:
Frame Animation with a single layer document. note Frame animation options does not have a "convert frames" option that a video timeline option. Note however other option like make frames from layer are grayed out. The because the are no additional layers to make frames with.
Converted to Video timeline you can see there is a "convert frames" but other options are grayed out for they are not available for this document in its current state.
Here a layered single in this case document in Photoshop video timeline option "convert frames" grayed out for there is nothing in the video timeline but a button to create a frame animation.
Video Timeline with no document open looks like the above options however you can see there is nothing in the video timeline. The create frame animation button does not hide the video timeline contents.

Is there a way to create a multi-state button or have a pict ring behave like boolean?

Does someone know of a way to make a multi-state button say (function one, function two,function three, off) or implement boolean-like behavior for a pict ring? I want to be able to cycle through the states without a menu popping up for all possible values. So when I press this button or ring it will go from state-1, to state-2, to state-3 etc.

Place a transparent button over a ring. On button value change events,
or via polling, increment the ring indicator. Better yet, put the value
in a shift register that gets incremented and displayed in the ring
indicator.

All I can do now is change the skin design and that's it, I can't animate between states like I can with Flash Builder skins. So is there a way to do that, any technique or I have to create a button component from scratch?

simplebuttons have upState etc properties you can use to assign movieclips to the 3 states. you can use the currentFrame property of movieclps to (appear to) smoothly transition from one state to another.

Can't create frames from layers CS6

I have looked at multiple tutorials saying that to create an animated gif in Photoshop CS6, you just open the Timeline palette and select "Create Frames from Layers" from the dropdown. I don't see this option, not even grayed out. What is the problem?

Fustrating problem with self-made 5-state button

Hey guys, just wondering if you could help me, i don't have
much knowledge with actionscript and i created my own 5 state
button using a movie clip and a little bit of actionscript by
following a tutorial online. (

Basically, when rolled over, the button slides out, and when
rolled off, the button slides back in. The problem is, while the
button is rolling back in, if you flick your mouse onto the button
again quickly, instead of restarting the roll-out animation, the
button just flickers quickly between the in position and the out
position.

hover your mouse over the buttons on the right, move your mouse
off, and then while its rolling back in, quickly move your mouse
back onto it.
The actionscript for the buttons is this:

yeah this is typical when using a timeline based button
action. two things you could do:
1) control the state change by using a variable to indicate
when the motion is complete (or not) like 'isOpen' - you'd need to
do this for each button in combination with a condition in the
handler that 'reads' the var and determines the course of action -
of course the next problem is that if you 'rollout' while the
motion is happening and the handler fires previous to the setting
of the var to it's 'new' state it won't close because the condition
would only be fired once - the only way around that would be to
include a loop that runs until the condition is satisfied.
2) much better than the above method (which would get messy
fast) is to simply use the 'tween' class to create you motions, you
can then 'open' or 'close' from what ever the current position of
the clip is at the moment the handler is fired. you've got your
code on the timeline of the 'button' MC (good job) so you could
change it to something like this:

4 State Buttons - Disabled and Visited State

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if CP will be offering 4 state buttons as an option in the future. Essentially adding a _disabled or _visited (both would be great) option to image buttons. 3 state buttons are great, but im finding more and more clients asking for 'greyed out' buttons when clicked. Some want disabled and others visited (so they can re-access the button).
I know Storyline has the feature to add a disabled and visited states. And I heard Lectora is adding this feature.
Basically The way I see it is that i can choose an image button and you get an option to select a disabled or visited button (or neither if you want 3 state). Then CP automatically pulls in the _up, _over, _down & _disabled or _visited images.
So back to my question, is this on the horizon?
Or if anyone has a better idea then i suggested, then i would be interested in knowing.
*I am aware you can do this with Advanced actions, but this way would be automated. (less work)

Yes wearable technology is wonderful. The best enhancement I've heard about in that area (for e-learning) is the 'wearable LMS'. It's a Wi-Fi enabled device that can detect and capture output from a Captivate module (as long as it's within range of a 802.11ac wi-fi transmitter/receiver).
I'll probably get into trouble for leaking this information but...also on the LMS front, Adobe has finally decided to take on the LMS vendors and introduce an incredible enhancement that looks like making any conventional LMS totally redundant.
If you've been wondering why Captivate 8 removed so many output options, it's actually been done to make room for the new Standalone LMS enhancement due out for Captivate 9's release next year (possibly Cp 9.5 if the development encounters issues with the implementation). Once that incredible breakthrough arrives you won't need to worry about SCORM, TinCan, Acrobat.com or any other reporting format. The Captivate output module ITSELF becomes the LMS.
It's all achieved with the new Cloud-based synchronization technology that Adobe has been keeping under wraps. Not only will the new Standalone LMS output capture all of the user interactions for your course. it will also aggregate them from other users around the world (as long as the user is online) and spit out nicely formatted reports to your nearest printer. The formatting is still a bit rough at the moment, and you do need really good bandwidth to pull it off, but the barriers to entry are coming down all the time.
It's certainly an exciting time to be an e-learning developer!

Why is "New Volume From Layers" Greyed Out? (PS CS5 Extended)

OK here's what I've tried, based on forum research:
1. Make sure two layers are selected.
2. Deleted PS CS5 preferences (using Shift+Ctrl+Alt method) - tried twice.
3. Checked that my video card is supported (it is).
Yet this menu item continues to be greyed out - I'd appreciate any suggestions to get it working!
I cannot find out how this menu item is meant to be used as there seems to be no article in Adobe Help.

In that case how does this guy get it to work with TWO layers http://www.planetphotoshop.com/3d-light-beams.html and also the demo from MAX2010 - maybe he was bluffing?
And two vector paths is normally enough to interpolate a 3D volume in any 3D modeller I've ever used. So the "minimum of 3 paths" is simply not true.
So, I'm left with the question why is "New Volume" from layers greyed out?

Moving buttons from project to project

I have a button where the selected state and highlighted states took me a long time to create a long time ago.
I copy to the clipboard the button, paste into a new project and none of the attibutes, selected state or highlighted states work. whats more, the "selected Shape' shows "not set'
How do you correctly move a button from project to project????

Right click on the button, and elect "create button style" not specific to the project.
Name it and save it self contained.

In my experience, the code created by graphics apps is less than satisfactory. And image based menus are very awkward for several reasons.
#1 If you decide to change your menu later, you must go back to your graphics app and re-craft the whole thing. After 2-3 times of this, it gets old in a hurry.
#2 Image based menus cannot be "seen" by search engines, screen readers and language translators.
#3 CSS styled text menus are better for your site's visibility, accessibility and they are a snap to edit in Dreamweaver.
That said, if you're still married to image based menus, use Fireworks to create images only. Use Dreamweaver's Image Rollover Behaviors to create your rollover scripts.

Removing the minimize button from Title bar...

I have created an desktop application using swing. I dont need minimized button on title bar of the main window. I searched a lot but could not find a solution. Can I get some useful links.

Actually I want if the application is minimized, its state should not changed to iconified but it simple because hidden. And using the tray icon's option if application is open, it simple make the application visible. I did not want the following case which is happening right now.
Case:
1. I Minimized the application
2. My application state becomes the iconified and it becomes hidden (As I have implemented the windowlistener)
3. I used trayicon's Open option (it simply visible the application)
4. Application becomes visible, but it is in iconified state. Because previously its state has been changed due to minimized button.I want whenever the Open option of tray icon is used, application must be visible in Maximized state. That why I also did on action listener of Open option
                        application.setState(NORMAL);
                        application.setExtendedState(MAXIMIZED_BOTH);
                        application.setVisible(true);That's why I planned to removed the minimize button from Title bar. But if it not possible then how can I avoid changing state of application when minimized button is used.

Use EXCLUDING options of the SET PF-STATUS statement and insert the function code of the execute button into a internal table and pass it with EXCLUDING.

I used the multi-state behavior from the library to set up my
nav bar. How do I set a button to be in the on state at the state

Put in a script attached to the button sprite, like this:

As a simple test:
- start the movie
- open the message-window (ctrl-m on windows..)
- write: sendsprite(1, #toggle, true), and press return
change 1 to the correct spritechannel, and toggle the button
on/off by using

How to link several 4 state buttons to an one image area?

I've created a page with several 4-state buttons. I am trying to have a specific image show up in a target area when a specific button is selected. When i go into my states palette, all of the buttons show up in states 2-4. I can set this up easily to be roll-overs but i really want them to be buttons and i can't figure out how to get one image for each button. HELP!

Button symbols are self-contained so it may be a little trickier to do this. Try adding a hotspot on top of each button symbol and create the disjoint effect from the hotspot, rather than the button symbol slice.
NOTE: You may have to put the rollover effect on a 5th, 6th, 7th etc.. state.
You could also try opening the Behaviors panel and adding the effect directly from the panel, using the button slice.
