2 TB WD "unreadable" (ticking)

grrrr. i have two - 2 TB WD "My Book Essential" external drives that i bought within the last four months with one running my Time Machine backup and the other partitioned into two 1 TB partitions and /one/ of these is running a clone of my drive via CCC.
I went to store something temporarily on the 1 TB partition, saw that it was not mounted on my desktop with an icon and unplugged and re-plugged it in. i get this error upon plugging it in:

I put my hand on it just now and I can feel the whirring similar to the other drive but there is also a methodical ticking that I can feel.
I guess this is the proverbial time bomb and it has already gone off or is this trouble-shoot-able?

Sounding to me like it is unstable heads.
I took Ricks great advice and opened here in Disk Utility and it shows the WD drive (sort of an orange icon) but not what I normally see under my drives (sort of a blue icon). I never set down to figure out what this distinction was and I guess I am interested in knowing if anyone knows.
Anyway, she shows up as "Mac OS Extended (Jounaled)" and down at the bottom it says it is "Partition Map Scheme: Unformatted". It also shows USB connection and 2 TB down at the bottom as well. "Name" is untitled?
Anyone know if there is more info I should provide and/or what a good course of action is?
Odd, I am listening to it again - and I am not hearing the sort of "clunky" "tripping" sound that seemed like it was the same as the WD: "Western Digital desktop drive with unstable heads clicks a few times and stops spinning". The difference with mine being that it is still spinning...
Should I reformat, re-back up and ask WD for a replacement? Thoughts?

You could, but the error message is indicating that your iPhoto library needs repairing.
Check, if iPhoto will run, if you launch it on a new library. Hold down the alt/option key, while you launch iPhoto. Select to create a new library from the panel that will show. Can you create a new library? If yes, try again to fix the library. Which options have you tried from the Library First Aid panel, when you launched iPhoto with the option and command key held down?
If you have not tried "Rebuild"; do that next. But be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library, before you try this.

JSlider - Showing the labels only at the major tick points

I am using a vertical JSlider and I have the options to change the maximum and minimum values of the slider.
The problem is that when the difference between minimum and maximum values are very high, a number of labels are displayed. As this difference increases, these labels will be overlapped and the labels become unreadable.
I need to restrict the number of labels only to the major tick marks of the JSlider. Can anybody suggest a solution to show the tick labels only at the major tick points ??

You can show slider labels at whatever values you choose by using setLabelTable. Example:slider = new JSlider(); // default range, 0 - 100

Open Mail.app >
If your vertial mailbox list on the right is already showing, then skip the next step.
Click [View] then [Show Mailbox List] >
Delete the Smart Mailbox "Today" from the list. >
Quit Mail, then re-open it.
Why is this happening?
I've seen this since Mavericks 10.9 launched but it's likely to have existed earlier than this. My conjectural opinion is that using a Smart Mailbox like "Today" (turned on by default) seem to exacerbate this behavior. I've noticed it happens a lot more often than not with a Gmail account as well, even running 10.9.1.

Hello All,
To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

Mail unread messages

I have just upgraded to Lion and one small issue I am having is that, apart from the blue dot, the Unread and Read emails in Mail view exactly the same.
I hae the option in Preferences to Bold unread email ticked, but all of the messages are viewing the same.
Is there anyway I can get the unread emails to be highlighted more than they are?

Yesterday I got an email and I read it then downloaded some pictures to it so I could see them. I then deleted it but realized after the read email symbol to show there is an unread email was still there. There are no emails in any of my message folders but it seems to think I have one...I have restarted it and tried un-thinking that email address and then ticking it again but it still brings it back. I have also received emails since to that address but it still hasn't budged. Please help :/

On your home screen Go to main Message Box ,open it go over a Specific date say today then Press Menu key > scroll and click " Mark Prior Read " . then perform a battery pull restart like this : device power on remove battery,wait for a min. then reinsert and wait till it reboot , see if it is still there

Unread messages no longer bold...

I've just noticed that even though I have the Preference option ticked, my unread emails are no longer shown bold.
Is there a way to recover this option? Can the Mail program be rebuilt? Currently I don't have any backup, unfortunately.

I took screen shots of all the settings in my two mail accounts, and saved and then deleted my .plist file, opened Mail and configured my accounts, checking with the screen shots. When I finish the first account and press 'create' I get this message...
Mail found an existing mailbox named Outbox; this mailbox is reserved for Mail.
Your mailbox has been renamed to “Delivered”.
There is no Outbox mailbox showing normally in my Mail.
Then Mail opens with all my notes in the Inbox (which is not how my original preference is set), no emails in the Inbox, and a new Mailbox created called 'Delivered'. No emails in the Sent folder either. No emails anywhere. Only all my Notes!
It seems like something is badly wrong with my Mail.
So I restore the original .plist and get my emails back.
I think I will have to give up and settle for no bold on unread emails!

Mails on iPhone shown as unread on Mac and vice versa - how to sync it?

Hello dear supporters,
My question is concerning the Mail application both on Mac (Version 3.6) and on iPhone (iOS 4).
I have an e-mail account which I use on both devices.
As I am often on the road, I read many of my mails of this account on the iPhone but when I'm at my Mac I read them there so that, in effect, the status of the mails (read and unread) is different between both devices.
Now, when I'm plugging my iPhone to iTunes in order to sync contacts, apps and so on (I don't use other sync services at the moment), the status of the two mail programs is not getting synchronized, both applications seem to load, work and send the mails seperately.
The problem is that I always have to open all the mails on my iPhone manually which I already read on my Mac and vice versa in order to turn the "unread"-status (in both Mac and iPhone) off and to see which mails are really new. This is really annoying as I get a lot of mails and as my network is quite slow, it takes quite a while to tick all the mails off manually.
So the question is: how can the number of really unread mails (neither read on iPhone nor on Mac) be synchronized?
I hope you understand what I am talking about but if not, I while try to explain it other way (I'm not fluent in English but I will do my best).

P.S.: Another question (less annoying but would be also quite useful at some moments) is how I can synchronize the mails in the "sent"-folder as I want to see which mails I sent from my iPhone on the Macs' Mail application and vice versa.

More than likely with the situation you are describing, you have a POP3 account for your mail. If that is the case, they are designed to be used by a single mail client. They are not designed to be, and cannot be synced together, and if you open them on one client and leave them on the server and open the other client, they will still appear as unread.
The only alternative is to get an IMAP account, if your mail provider offers that, or look into some of the web based mail providers that have IMAP accounts available.
Attaching the iPhone to iTunes does not sync mail, even if you check off the box about mail sync, all that does is sync the mail account information (i.e. server names, etc.) but does not sync content.

If you're trying to connect to a Bonjour server on the remote network, that won't work over a layer 3 VPN. Use something like Hamachi or one of the SSH-tunnelling Bonjour proxy apps for that.

Open commitments though Delivery complition ticked for PO.

Dear Experts,
I am facing a very strange issue.
We have a PO with 10 line items all items are alike except line item 9/10 where unit of measure is EA (each) and for others it is D (days). (account assignment catagory as Project, in the account assignment WBS element, Commitment item, Funds center, Fund are maintained, and it is same for all line items),
All the items are ticked for del.complition. So apperantly these items should not appear as open commitments in Funds consumption report,
First Eights lines (which have unit of measure as D) are not appearing in Fund consumption report but the last two line items 9/10 (with unit as EA) are appearing as open commitment in Funds consumption report.
I just changed the unit of measure of line item 8/9 to D from EA and saved the PO. After this i run the Funds consumption report and to my surprise the line items 8/9 are not appearing as open commitments.
I am not getting how come Unit of measure is playing role in Funds consumption.
Can somebody help me understand.

This reply is more of a guess work than otherwise:
Commitment seems to be created with unit of measure as D, possibly because that is the base unit of measure. EA could be alternate unit of measure which is entered in the PO. When you set delivery completion indicator, commitment is removed to the extend of EA rates (reason note known - possibly due to corrections in PO subsequently from D to EA. You can check the PO change history in this regard)
To further understand the issue, you can verify the value of commitment with D & EA from table COOI by passing the object number with and without delivery completion indicator. Alternatively, you can use transaction RKACSHOW to see the changes in commitment with differing units of measure and with / without delivery completion indicator.
Please post the results after trying out.

Activity Report download is saved without extension and unreadable

Hello,
The Portal Activity Report iView has a button which enables the user to download the report to his PC.
The problem is that when the user clicks on that button and saves the file it is being saved by this default name: com.sap.portal.activityreport.frontend.DownloadableActivityReport
The main problem is that it is being saved by default without any extension and after saving the user needs to manually add the .xls suffix.
Another problem is that once I open the report with Excel The Object Name column is unreadable.
Is there any way to resolve these issues?

The feature in general of course was supported, but what I cannot say is if it was a known issue that it didn't work correctly. As I dont't use the ActivityReport, I also have no experience if it didn't work at some time and maybe now is working.
The wrong filename I don't expect to be corrected in the meanwhile, as said, that's a problem in some places. So at least for this you could open an OSS message. And maybe combine this with the problematic column issue.
But if upgrading to SP18 would be an option for you, maybe you could first test that.

iPhone mirrors the content of your accounts. You can turn off that account by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > account > turn off mail. Then access your email account via webmail/website and delete them there. Once you turn on the account again in your iPhone it wont download them all. Otherwise to leave it downloading then mark them all read once downloaded.

How do I find and clear all ticked Stop Times in music tracks?

I have lots of music tracks which have the Stop Time ticked under the Options tab in Get Info. I don't know why they are ticked as I didn't do it, but now I want to clear them all as it causes tunes to stop abruptly in playback. I've looked for a script that would do this, but no luck. If there's no available script, perhaps if I could at least find all of the songs with Stop Time ticked, that would be a start. Does anyone either know of a way to clear all ticked Stop Times, or at least create a playlist of all songs with Stop Time ticked? If anyone knows why Stop Time gets ticked for some songs and not others, that would also be useful information. Thanks in advance.

Maybe this script in can be of help:

Replace the "1000" with the number of seconds of your longest track, compile and run the script. The script tries to set the Stop Time to 1000 seconds. If your tracks are shorter in duration, the Stop times just will be cleared.
Run Script Editor (in ./Applications/Applescript) and copy the script (grey block above) to it.
Click the 'Compile' button and save it as a script in ./Library/iTunes/Scripts.
It will then appear in the Script menu in iTunes.
Next, select all tracks in your Music Library (Command-A) and run the script.
It's not a very elegant solution, but it works.
If anyone knows why Stop Time gets ticked for some songs and not others, that would also be useful information.
I can't tell you that. I've never experienced a phenomenon like that.
Maybe some iTunes related Widget or iTunes supporting application is responsible for that.

Collapsed view: how to see "most recent unread message" instead of "first unread message" in a thread in Mail

Hey all,
I use the inbuilt Mail-software on my Macbook with Lion 10.7 and I constantly overlook new messages in a thread, as I organize by conversation and usually have all my threads in 'collapsed view'. For some reason Mail seems to prefer showing the 'first', i.e. the earliest unread message as the one message that I see in collapsed. If there are newer messages already in the thread, I don't see them, unless I un-collapse the thread. I find this really unintuitive and annoying, my inbox seems far more static than it really is.
Is there any way to change this and have Mail show me the most recent unread message as the message I see in collapsed view?
I appreciate any advice.
