2 thoughts on the new glass trackpad
1. I am having a lot of problems "pinching" to zoom in and out, and to rotate. The trackpad does not respond as well as my iphone does. It sometimes takes several tries to get something to embiggen.
2. I do not really like the sound or feel of the trackpad when i click it. i think you amazing designers should look to the Powerbook G4 (aluminum) trackpad's button. I think the feel and sound of that button was the best i have ever used.
I'm new to Mac. I've had my new Macbook for two weeks now??? I forget: time's been flying! It *****, I see people having problems with theirs--and all I have to say is my machine works perfect. I have no complaints. My trackpad works great. Granted I don't really pinch a lot, but every time I use it it works without effort.
I seriously have had no problems. I don't do serious hardcore stuff like video editing, but it works a lot better than my last HP which was running Vista. I mostly do internet research, Keynote, and Page work. Great computer. Fast and simple. I can't believe I already know how to do things on a Mac better than PC. I used PC's my whole life! Macs are too easy to learn. Keynote is freaking great. I can't believe I can do presentations that blow MS OFFICE slideshows out of the water.
I hope all of your problems get fixed.

Anyone having an easy time w/ the new glass trackpad?
I'm really struggling with the new glass trackpad. I think I've mastered it one minute and then the next I'm selected text I didn't want to select or zooming in on something I didn't want to zoom in on. And then when I try to select text I get a contexual menu instead, etc, etc.
So my question is, is anyone having an easier time of it and if so could you share some tips? One thing I've already trained myself to do is to keep my thumb off the trackpad. With previous laptops I always kept my thumb on the trackpad button ready to click. That isn't possible now because it will mistake it as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th finger.Harry wrote:

Not sure if anyone here can answer this... Will the new Magic Trackpad work with the iPad? It is a Bluetooth accessory just like the keyboard but that obviously does not mean it will actually work with it. Also, does anyone here know how to ask Apple a question like this without having to Pay for it?
No it doesn't. Apple would have to create another OS. And it would take away the entire point of the touch screen.
If you had a keyboard and trackpad/ mouse, your better off buying the Mac. If you buy an iPad, you are buying a TOUCH SCREEN electronic if you don't want one once again buy a Mac. -
I am irritated because I bought the New I phone 6 plus . I was told that when I put in a reminder and add location to my contacts Siri will read my reminder to me when I get to the location where the reminder is set for . why isn't it working ? Also I bought 20 more mb of storage for the cloud , how do I save my phone storae and move things to the cloud so they wont get deleted on the cloud but I can on my phone
I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!" -
What are your thoughts on the new Mavericks upgrade?
I currently have Snow Leopard - just upgraded to that in the not so recent pass because needed to do that in order to be able to view photos with my new Canon camera. I did upgrade to the iTunes 11.0.1 when I saw the flashing popup list it as a software upgrade, even though all I use it for is to convert songs from Garage band to aiff files and to import podcasts from the internet. Thought I would need it possibly in the future. As long as it didn't mess me up with the above, I was okay with it. However, I did not like having to relearn how to handle playlists. As you can see I operate on what you probably would call an elementary, basic level and don't like things that would some how "mess up" what I have finally gotten used to. Is Mavericks going to be like Windows upgraded OS systems which always seem to drop support for older software it previously supported? I had hoped that going to Apple from Windows would save me from that for longer periods of time.
An additional problem I have just encountered is that suddenly I can no longer access my bank account online. Was told that the possible reason for this was that Apple has not kept up with upgrading its security, and, therefore, the bank would not consider it safe anymore. Thoughts?????? [I finally was able to work around this issue by downloading Firefox and using that successfully.]
Would appreciate any comments.you said it brother !!!
This ***** big time...
what was more natural that look for music with cover flow, the same way you look for LP in a store or CD at home. Steve Jobs shown that in a presentation !!!! IF I RECALL.
DOES THE NEW CEO USES APPLE PRODUCTS !!!
Steve will not be pleased with this monstrosity. -
MY THOUGHTS ON the NEW 10.8 X
Ok I am huge fan of the ios: iphone, ipad, features built into the Mountain Lion Upgrade. I thought that it would be accurate of me to start a discussion on the new notification bar, in the "Mountain Lion" upgrade. This is redundant but I I think that the notification bar has a lot of potential. Some of the potential would have to be the integration of iTunes into the notification bar and also the integration of more applications, when i say more Applications i mean third party applications. I NOTICED THAT THE GAME CENTER BUILT INTO THE NEW 10.8 X OPERATING SYSTEM HAs SOME BUGS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN WORKED OUT AND I HOPE TO SEE more intergrations of the IOS features. i am no genius but i do have thoughts and i thought it would be a nice gesture to share some of these experiences. apple has evolved rappidly but going back to the roots of an operating system would be magic in self... any who, the upgrade was fun and i hope to see the notification bar evolve more.

The new glass on the iphone 4.
i read some reviews and this "super glass" doesnt seem that great. they did a test dropping it from 3.5 feet. the 3rd time they dropped it, it completely shattered. however in the iphone video it shows them BENDING the glass in a factory. i dont understand why it is still weak. anyone know anything about this new glass?
The test was done with an "empty" iPhone 4. Hardly conclusive as there is also no video evidence showing that it was a standard drop. There could have been some force behind the throw. Another note - This test was performed by a company who so "conveniently" provides repair as well.

Does the new magic trackpad comes with the Force Touch
Hi
I want buy a new magic trackpad and I wonder does it come with the new "Force Touch" that has been recently introduced to a new MacBook?
Thanks
Save13According to the article, there is no stand-alone trackpad with that new feature available at this time:
It makes some sense to imagine Apple will introduce support for Force Touch inside future versions of its $69 Magic Trackpad at some point. It is also likely Force Touch will be rolled out in future iOS devices.
And, according to the store page, they are still selling the regular trackpad (no mention of a new one):

Your thoughts on the new ABAP editor
I am interested to know other people's opinions on the new ABAP Editor and Debugger. I just started to use the new editor and I am kind of dissapointed:
- the code completion feature is a far cry from the Java editor. It shows only one element in the code completion list based on a strange rule (I think it is first in the alphabetical order, and then based on the previously selected item)
- it does not provide code completion for types
- the code completion stays on for a short period of time, after that it dissapears. Is there a key combination that can launch the code completion on demand?Hello Tiberiu,
With the new Editor, you can launch the code completion with the combination "Ctrl + Space".

Java is just not running on Firefox 11 or above, it keeps telling you that is not running and it needs to be installed, my operating system is Windows 7 x64bits. I don't know if this problem also exist on x86 bits OS. I really like Mozilla and for now I've been obligated to use IE9 for Java based webpages and I don't like it. Any help on this issue will be appreciated.
*Firefox 12 (and all previous) is a 32-bit browser and requires the 32-bit version of Java. 32-bit browsers will run on 64-bit operating systems as you have experienced.
*If you have both 32-bit and 64-bit browsers installed on your system, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java.

Any thoughts on the new Bluetooth Firmware Update?
First of all, happy 2006 to all.
I just downloaded and installed a Bluetooth Firmware Update upon running the Software Update utility. Right after I decided to see online what should I expect from it. According to Apple's post, such a download is not for our PB model.
Anyway, it's probably too soon to tell, but after brief testing I feel that at least the connection's kept at a larger distance. I hope to be right because sometimes the connection seems to be quite weak. I use my Bluetooth Sony Ericsson k700i as a remote control with many losses in the connection.
George...I too downloaded this updater via Software Update. Upon restart the Bluetooth Firmware Updater application launched and I proceed to try and install. After sitting there for about 10 minuntes I clicked the Quit button since it was not finding any device. It asked if I was sure I wanted to quit because the firmware was not updated yet. After quitting the updater, my powerbook's (1.5GHz 15" Aluminum) bluetooth is no longer available. The preference pane is gone, the menu bar item says "Bluetooth is unavailable".
I restarted, deleted all the bluetooth preferences, and still nothing. I now have bluetoothless powerbook.
If anyone has any additional suggestions, please let me know. I am going to try a few other things in the mean time (inlcuding zapping the PRAM).

The new Lenovo Keyboard - thoughts by Aaron Stewart, Sr Engineer
Love it?
Loathe it?
Change is hard, and Gavin O'Hara, global publisher for Lenovo catches up with Aaron Stewart, Senior Engineer for ThinkPad User Experience & Design, who shares his thoughts on the new design.

Stewart makes some very good points. I would add that, in general, people don't like change. Laptop keyboards have always been "non-standard."
I think I will get used to and like the new layout just fine. Anything that helps me not hit two keys at once is a plus. Also, backlit is a huge plus for me.
So, aside from the link, what are your views on the subject? -
I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why
I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
/usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
says :
platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
to install
using the minimal install.
3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
not have
enough space.
4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
stuff under
/mnt/cdrom
5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

nullMy sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
can't find it.
2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
dbmssml.sql.
3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
agent
4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
in 12 years.

Safari Quit Unexpectedly after new Magic Trackpad
Hello, I have an iMacG5 with Mac OS X Version 10.6.4. I purchased the new Magic Trackpad, updated my software and paired the Trackpad. In order to pair I had to download a fix for the OS because Trackpad was not showing up under System Preferences. Restarted the mac and it all worked fine. Next day after shutting down I started the mac and was no longer able to access Safari - I keep on getting "Safari Quit Unexpectedly". Below you can find the full error report. What can I do to be able to access safari? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards, Edward

You may wish to adjust your computer description based on this line from your log:
Model: iMac11,1, BootROM IM111.0034.B02, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz,
Instead of an iMac G5, you have an Intel iMac--and a very nice one--that is newer and more capable than the G5 iMacs. If you leave the old description and have a hardware question later, people could give you inapplicable advice because they think you have an older model.
Doesn't apply to your current Safari issue--that is not machine-specific--just a heads-up for future postings. -
How Scratch Proof is the New iPhone 4?
According to to Apple the new "glass" on the iPhone is comparable in strength to sapphire crystal and 30 times harder than plastic. I am getting tired of protectors, cases, etc... So just how durable is this screen going to be? Considering Apple no longer sells screen protectors I am hoping were moving in the direction of no longer needing to fork over extra money for additional screen protection.
I've had 4 3G iPhones so far (3 warranty replacements). Only got very minor scratches on the screen, nothing that affected viewing at all.
The only thing I'm really worried about is shattering. 3 guys at my office have shattered their screens. One guy dropped a weight on his so he probably doesn't count. The other dropped his on concrete and got one big ol' crack on his screen. The third guy dropped his on his kitchen floor and his whole screen looks like a spider web. None of them use cases, which is the only reason why I use one. Probably doesn't make a bit of difference if I drop it in just the right way but I've got enough denial to believe it makes a difference.

Hi, First pardon my generic question, but I am posting this after much frustration. When you create an index on a table, which thought process you follow? I mean instead of blindly throwing index on every column in where clause, how do you decide as
