2 TIMES IPHOTO
I noticed that you have installed (or present) on my mac iphoto 2 versions of the same, in the same location, is posiibile or delete a risk of destroying the entire iphoto library? if you delete one I still have to re-download or another, some of you has already happened?
I mountain lion 10.8.1, I discovered the problem by running the import script in openings that I was asked where openings (I have not installed openings) and from there I noticed the double iphoto
both are the latest version available on the mac app store Italian (9.3.2)
and are located in / applications / iphoto.app

I keep trying to burn a CD-R in Iphoto, and every time iPhoto stops burning halfway through and i get this error message, "Attemp to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." I am using memorex CD-R's and have tried with 4 times with different CD's. Is this a software or hardware problem? Any info would be awesome
Export the photos to a desktop folder, right click on the folder and burn to disk - see if that is any different

How can one stop the annoying MobileMe notice from appearing every time iPhoto is opened?
Well then you can not remove something that obviously has been removed
Did you remove the references in the iPhoto preferences? Did this eliminate the problem? If so then you are done and your problem has been
N resolved.

Hello All,
I'm Gene. I have an older MAC desktop and am running iPhoto 09, version8.1.2 (424). Each time I connect my iphone to my MAC I get a message that there is a newer version of iPhoto, but when I select the link, I am taken to the Apple webpage and get a message that the page I'm looking for is not available. All I would like to do is upgrade my iPhoto. Do I need to upgrade to the latest version of iWork, and if so, what version and how would I do that? Any assistance is appreciated. ThanksThe iPhoto version that is currently available at the App Store os 9.5.1 and requires the Mavericks OS X. The early 2008 24" iMac can run Mavericks. Once you have Mavericks installed (it's free) you can purchase iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store.
If you don't want to upgrade to Mavericks you can purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com and install iPhoto 9. Then up trade it to 9.4.3 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads website: Apple - Support - Search

Cant get time iphoto pictures from my portable harddrive time machine backup
Hi
I m trying to get my photos from a Time Machine backup on a portable hard drive. When i get to the pictures folder and press it I get the "iphoto (original)" icon. When I press it I get the iphoto screen but a "Caution" box comes up that says "the iphoto library is a Time MAchine Backup and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iphoto with the option key held down to choose another library". You have to press "quit" to get out which takes you back to the iphoto (original) icon. I have tried opening with the option key held down but I get the same pop us caution. Can anyone help. ThanksTime Machine does nto simply copy files - it copies changes to files and keeps track of how to reassemble the files on request for a specific time
So you NEVER access TM backups directly - you always use the Time Machine program and have it restore the backup

Every time my iPhoto prompts to import my Mobilme albums, it freezes iPhoto and I have to force quit to continue.
Any ideas? It cannot import my albums.
ThanksGo to http://web.me.com and use the Sign In link to go to your galleries:
There you can use the Download button to download all of you gallery photos grouped by gallery.
When you're done go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the MobileMe account. Next to go the Sustem/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe. That will stop those messages.

Repairing the library every time iPhoto launches. Why??
I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and updated iPhoto. Everytime I start iPhoto it says that it needs to "Upgrade" the library to the latest version. Then it says that the library has to be repaired and I go through this process, the library opens up and works just fine. When I close the library, the whole process starts again, the system repairs the library, library opens, close the software down and restart, rebuild .... etc.
I tried Command/Option -> launch iPhoto to rebuild the entire library database. But I still have the same issue. I can use it but, once I close it down and relaunch I have to rebuild the library.
Has anyone at Apple or anyplace else seen this? iPhoto worked fine before I upgraded to Mavericks. Is there another program I can use instead of iPhoto until this gets resolved??Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

IPhoto Bug - Every time try to change date, date moves back 100 years
You will like this bug. Somehow an incorrect date was entered on the videos in iPhoto. Now, we try to enter a correct date of 2/1/2011 using iPhoto->Photos->Adjust Date Time and the dates just keep going back approximately 100 years. Currently, the date shows June 3, 1221!
We can't set the date on our videos.
I just tried again, and now the date shows May 16th, 1153.
Bummer, huh?I friend of mine had the same problem and ask me for a solution. I conclude that when you ask to adjust date and time, iPhoto calculates the number of seconds that each picture has to be adjusted with. That number of seconds is stored in an 32bits signed integer variable, which means that the maximum numbers of seconds we can store is 2,147,483,647, which corresponds to 68 years, 35 days, 3 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds. If the adjustment you are trying to do is smaller than that, it will work, if it's bigger the result would be uncertain. There is an easy solution to that problem, but is Apple that has to implement it by changing the 32bits variable that stores those seconds to a 64 bits one.

I upgraded MacbookPro 2009 from 10.6.8 to Yosemite 2 weeks ago. My iphoto is now a nightmare. i went to our local apple retailer but they could not help either. Perhaps someone can help. Beforehand the OS upgrade I made a backup copy of my Iphoto library onto an external hard drive. Lets call it BU with 50GB. I also deleted half of my photos from the default library on my laptop, lets call it DE, now with about 20GB, to gain space. I then upgraded to Yosemite.
I have also installed since a long time Iphoto Library Manager 3.8.6. (this may be the cause of the problem as it was not upgraded and perhaps thus not compatible with iphoto 9.6 which I have now after the upgrade to Yosemite) It all worked fine before the upgrade, switching in iphoto between the two libraries DE and BU.
It also worked fine after the upgrade for a few days. At one stage Iphoto asked me to upgrade the iphoto version as it otherwise could not read the photos when I tried to load the BU library into iphoto. I did click yes to upgrade iphoto. As a result I became a brand new but totally empty library, no photos.
BU was still on the external disc, however the "Master" file was empty. We fortunately discovered all photos were in another file called Old Master, also under BU. We made another copy of the Old Master file onto the external disc. Lucky we did, because shortly afterwards we could not open anymore the BU file thus had no access to anything in there. Now I have 17000 photos in a file called Old Master on my external disc and another smaller library DE on my laptop. When I tried to import the photos from Old Master into a new iphoto library it was very messy. All events dates were mixed up, many photos were imported twice. I have no idea whether all my 17000 photos have been imported.
Can anyone suggest what is the most time efficient way? How do I best import my 17000 into a new library ensuring I don't loose any in the process. I do not wish sorting through 17000 photos for a week or so. Shall i also get a new iphoto library version now? Thank you for anything that may work.Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think? -
Need help with iphoto and dragging to external hard drive
Hello,
I have my iphoto very organized into Events and I recently just moved them to be in folders. I would like to have only certain Events (or folders/albums) on the external hard drive. The apple store rep said to go to Finder, Pictures, Iphoto, then right click to "Show Package Contents." Then go to either "original" or "modified." From there I can drag into the hard drive. However, I'm very confused because the "modified" or "original" are not organized at all by folders or events. There are dates only. What can I do to find, drag the events (each are named)? Please help!
Katie1. Ignore the Apple store rep.
2. You need to clarify:
I have my iphoto very organized into Events and I recently just moved them to be in folders
Moved them to be where in folder? In iPhoto? In the FInder?
I would like to have only certain Events (or folders/albums) on the external hard drive.
In an iPhoto Library? Or in the Finder?
Do not access the Library via the Finder or any other app. You risk damaging your Library and you will lose data.
If you want to have some Events/Albums on an External Disk within iPhoto:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
If you want to have them in Folders in the Finder
Use the FIle > Export command to get photos out of iPhoto.

Upgrading to iPhoto '08 - what's going wrong with my iphoto Library
Hi,
I would appreciate your advice/knowledge on this problem.
==> Short Description of my problem:
I can't recover the keywords associated with my pictures. I am asked to import my pictures although I choose to open my previous iPhoto Library after converting to iPhoto 08.
==> What I did:
1. I recently upgraded my mac to Leopard, and then to iPhoto'08. When opening for the 1st time iPhoto '08, I selected my iPhoto Library (as I held the option key while opening iPhoto).
2. I then get the message: “The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.” I clicked on the "Upgrade" button
3. My Mac then loaded/created ALL my previous albums and smart albums (including the most recent ones). It loaded pictures up to April 2005. BUT then, it prompted me with the following message : "5584 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that are not a part of this photo library. Would you like to import them?". I was surprised to get this message, as I read that the upgrade should run smoothly.
4. I made two tests, following this prompt. First, I answered "YES". I ended with a 24.5 GB iPhoto Library (instead of my previous 12.64 GB library). Then, while repeating steps 2&3, I answered No. I then decided to import manually my missing pictures, and ended up with a 14,4 GB (surprisingly, I got events called originals that contained same pictures than other created events). I have repeated the steps 2 to 4 from a new user account, but got the same results.
5. None of these solutions are satisfactory as I had assigned keywords to my 5000+ photo. What is going wrong? Here is the content of my iPhoto Library (before conversion), if this is of any help:
In my iPhoto Library Oct 23, 2007:
folder 2000 Oct 18, 2007
folder 2004 Feb 13, 2005
folder 2005 Jan 29, 2006
folder 2006 Jan 7, 2007
folder 2007 Oct 23, 2007
AlbumData.xml Apr 17, 2005
folder Album Nov 11, 2007
Dir.data Apr 9, 2005
iPod Photo cache Nov 11, 2006
iPhoto.db Apr 17, 2005
Library.iPhoto Apr 9, 2005
Thumb32.data Apr 9, 2005
Thumb64.data Apr 9, 2005
ThumbJPG Apr 9, 2005
This library is an external-drive backup copy of my HD photo library (that no longer exists).
==> What to do next?
1. How to check if my keywords information is still present in my original iPhoto library? Is there any solution to get back my photo with their keywords?
2. Manage my iPhoto library with a smaller quantity of pictures, to ease backup and conversion. I have understood that iPhoto Libray Manager is a convenient free software to merge/de-merge libraries. Is that correct?
Thanks for your help,
NicolasNicoSou
This sounds to me like your v5 library is corrupted.
Try using the rebuild command from iPhoto Library Manager to recreate the library - it won't get everything, but should get albums and keywords. Read the iPhoto Library Manager Help for more details.

How can I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?
I have attempted to make sure my iPhoto library has been backed up on the external hard drive and that it is safe to delete some events from my internal hard drive
You need to think this through.
Time Machine is a back up application. It keeps a rolling back up of the data. It's called rolling because it means you can revert to the data you had on a specific date and time. But that's not eternal, and as time goes by, and your drive fills up, older backups are deleted. So if you delete Events on your Mac they will - eventually - also be deleted from the Time Machine back up.
If you wan tot archive data hendon't use Time Machine for that job. Here's how you might archive an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there

How to keep my Aperture library from showing up in other user's iPhoto?
I use an iMac 24 with OS 10.8.2 I use Aperture on my account and my wife and kids use iPhoto on their separate accounts on the same computer.
For some reason, over the last few months, everytime they open thier iPhoto, my Aperture photos show up first in there. They have to wait until iPhoto stops its spinning beach ball (creating previews maybe?) before they can hit the Events box to find their own photos.
I have never set anything up to share libraries or anything like that. This behavior started on its own, possibly during one of the recent system upgrades. I have looked in the iPhoto preferences to see if there was an option to "automatically open Aperture library at launch" or something similar but could not find any such thing. Even a search on these boards has been inconclusive.
Does anyone know how I can keep all these iPhotos from opening up other libraries by default?
This is almost as annoying as the 'New software is available" alert message which keeps popping up in everyone's account, even the non admin ones and even after I have done all the available software updates.
Thank you for any help.
BoThank you Frank. I did check those settings and none of them were "on".
Here are two new bits of info to narrow down the issue: It seems that this behavior happens only the first time after I import a new set of images in Aperture from a SD card, and only the first time iPhoto is opened after that operation.
In other words:
1. Import photos in Aperture in my account
2. The first time one opens iPhoto in another account it will automatically display the new photos that were imported in my account.
3. as soon as I click on "events" in that iPhoto session, all of these last imported photos disappear and only the ones that belong in that iPhoto library remain. All is working normally from then on.
Really odd. Almost as if a snapshot of the last imports was automatically distributed to all account and not purged until manually done so...
And secondly, although Aperture is teh very latest version, I still have iPhoto '09 (v 8.1.2). I wonder if there is a bit of incompatibility with it and OS 10.8.2 maybe...

How can I stop iPhoto from crashing?
After working fine for a long time, iPhoto now crashes when I attempt to import an image from Safari. First noticed when importing an image from Google Images, the ultimate insult was when I tried to import an image from my own website as a test.
After relaunch it may crash again without attempting to import anything. I've kept up with the iPhoto updates. Was that a mistake?Post the Crash Log.
It's at Home / Library / Logs / Crash-Reporter / iphoto.crash.log
Double click on the file and it will open in the Console. Copy and Paste it in here.
