2 versions of same movie

Right now when I rip a DVD I create two versions: AppleTV and iPhone. For example, if I rip Batman Begins, then I create Batman Begins.m4v and Batman Begins (iPhone).m4v. My questions is there a way to display only one item in iTunes and on my AppleTV? I hate having to see both the AppleTV and iPhone version listed. It makes browsing my library twice as long.

Create a new smart playlist, call it Lossless Library, and set up a single condition : Kind is Lossless (or whatever the abbreviation is, I don't use it myself as 256 AAC is as good as CD to my ears).
You could then create another one with the mirror of it : Kind is not Lossless.
Then you only need to browse whichever of those two you need and everything from your Main Library will be in there, assuming you keep dual versions of everything.
Something similar may work for the video question, but as I don't use iTunes for video, that's a pure guess.

  • Two versions of same movie - Single icon?

After creating an iPod version of a movie, can I get iTunes to display only one version? ie AppleTV and iPod version, but single title displays (different resolution)

What you're trying to do is Duplicate the first project, then make changes. Depending on which version of iMovie you have it might be this easy. Go to the Project Library. Hold down the Control Key and click on the project. In the pop-up menu there's an option titled: Duplicate. That will give you the second movie you need to alter. Duplicate once more to get number three ready to go.

  • Make 2 versions of same movie: HD for one, 08 for other?

I am making movies from old video tapes. I would like to burn these movies to a DVD and enjoy them on my TV AND I would like to upload a copy to YouTube or another web site.
The problem is I have heard (over and over again) that iMovie 08 will significantly degrade the quality of my movie when I send it to iDVD. Since these movies are from tapes, I can't afford to lose any of the quality that is there. But 08 has great options for exporting the movie for YouTube and other sites (30 fps, 960x540).
If I make my movie in iMovie HD, it will be fine if I send it to iDVD, but the other exporting options give a movie that is only10 to 12 fps and 320x240 at the most.
Can I somehow create both an internet version and an iDVD version of my movie using only iMovie HD or iMovie 08? Or do I have to keep creating the movie twice, once in each program.
    Thanks for the help.

  • If I have purchased a HD movie (accidentally), can I also download an SD version of the same movie (and sacrifice the SD version for it)?

I've accidentally purchased an SD version of a movie and I'd like to swap it for an SD version of this movie. Can I do this? How?

Once you've bought one version of a specific movie, the other can be downloaded for free; click here for more information.

  • Multiple copies of same movie to sync to iPhone and AppleTV

As a loyal collector of Apple "stuff", I have movies on my primary computer (PowerMac G5 w/ additional 250GB HS just for iTune media). Some of these movie files wouldn't sync to the AppleTV, so I converted the to a format/form which would sync. Some of them won't sync to the iPhone, so I've started to convert them to a format/form which will sync to the iPhone. So now in some situations I have 3 copies of the same movie file. Seems like a huge waste of disk space. It's also hard to tell which one is compatible with which device.
    Any advice, idea, best-practices?
    Thanks.
    Adam

Here's what I do in the same situation.
I convert using iPhone base formats but bump up the resolution to 640 (and autocrop). In general this results in a superb image even on a large (38") TV and one that plays well on the iPhone (bit rate no more than 1000K).
This has become my standardized conversion now -- you can get a slightly better image by bumping up the max bit rate but oddly enough the only real improvement is in very very fast action (much of what I'm watching nowadays is action movies and I've notice only one or two times in the many dozens where the image has "jumped" just a tiny bit). It's very economical -- about 1gb per 2 hours -- which is a consideration even on Apple TV (I now have about 200 movies there).
Handbrake's presets are superb in this regard (get the latest version and use the iPhone/iTouch but change the res).

  • How to save a shorter version of a movie for facebook upload

I have several movies that have already been exported to YouTube, but I now want to share those same movies with facebook. Since facebook has a 2 minute limit, I will have to do some editing to cut down the length of these movies and also export them in a different (medium-640x360) size.
How do I do this if I want to retain the original versions of these movies? I just need to make one shortened version for facebook only.
Finally, where on the hard drive do these new movies get saved? They seem to be in the Documents folder instead of the Movies folder.

Highlight your project in the project library then click on File > Duplicate Project.
You have now created an exact duplicate which you can edit while still preserving the original.
Normally movie projects are saved in the Movies/Projects folder however it all depends on how they were exported.
Notice in the Share command if you select Export Movie or Export to QuickTime there is a 'Where' option.
This is so that you can specify where you want the movie to be saved.

  • Where can I get WLExpress 6.1 Service Pack 2 or a trial version of same?

Where can I get WebLogic Express 6.1 with Service Pack 2 or a trial version of same?

Since Adobe removes old trial versions as soon as a new version is released, you will not find anything official from Adobe
Anything else you do find is not to be trusted, since it may be a pirate, hacked version containing malware
When you talk about "old files" are you talking about PROJECT files, or movie files?
If movie files, such as an AVI, they should be universal... as long as you did not use a proprietary codec such as came with that era's capture cards (I have a Pinnacle Dv500 card that I used with Premiere 6, and until Pinnacle changed their software with a later update, the early AVI files I created would work ONLY with the Dv500)
So... which is it... project file or data file?

  • I can download a movie faster over my broadband connection using my ATV3 than the same movie over my LAN

I can't believe the poor performance of my networked iTunes setup. It has deteriorated over the past 12 months or so such that a purchased movie (HD Dark Knight Rises) can be downloaded from iTunes directly to my ATV3 faster than my n-based network at home even when i wire using 1Gb ethernet! My network connection is via cable, but it still utilises the sme WIFI connection to get to my ATV3 - How can this be?
I has seen various threads that talk about reseting the network, the ATV's, iTUnes, restarting my iMAC etc. none of which has any effect anymore (it did appear to previously).
I have iMAC to host iTunes, MacBook, 2 x ATV2 and 1 x ATV3, 2 x Airport Express for audio, 2 x iPad, 2 x iPod, 1 x iPhone 4S and 1 x iPhone 5 so it is safe to say that i am pretty heavily invested in Apple and I love the products but the more invested i become the more dissappointed. It is a real shame that regression testing does not seem to be high on their agenda these days.
If there are any bright ideas out there i would love to hear them cos i have run out for now..............
    Thanks
    SB

From my Airport Extreme, throughout my network (other than my cable router) everything is Apple, I update when patches become available. I check using iStumblr what conflicts there might be. Basically, other than the network being in my house it is as close to being the defacto Apple setup as it could be (notwithstanding my applications which are not that numerous).
Furthermore why can the same network enable me to stream from the iTunes store the same movie across the same network faster than on my local LAN where the only difference is going to be the location from where the data is "served". Especially when everything has worked in the past.
You are correct though in many respects given that the term network is loosely attributed to everything from the cable through WIFI and the chipset and firmware. So generically it is likely to be the "network" or an attribute of it. It would appear however that my issues coincided with a firmware upgrade, I would be very happy to uninstall and go back to previous versions to solve my problem but it isn't possible and I have no intention of jailbreaking my devices. If I could then i would nail the problem and inform Apple of my findings.
So, given that I am entrely Apple, that I install all firmware updates across all products and that I check for network interference............
Hence the reason for the post.

  • Three Versions of a movie? Which one do I buy?

This week, the iTunes store features the 1995 Al Pacino / Robert DeNiro movie Heat on sale for $9.99.  I love this movie and so I was looking forward to buying it.  But I fell into an iTunes hole and after clicking on a number of different titles, found myself at another listing for Heat, priced at $14.99.  Confused, I searched the iTunes store for "Heat", and was surprised to see three separate listings, all at different prices, for the same movie:
Now, unlike The Heat, which has rated and unrated versions available, Heat appears to have nothing between the three editions to differentiate them.  None of them contain iTunes Extras, none of them have different runtimes or ratings.  The only things that appear to be different are price and bitrate:  $14.99 / 5.81GB ; $17.99 / 5.75 GB; $9.99 / 6.16 GB.
Likewise, another title on sale this week is Seven. It has two identical listings. One at $9.99, one at $14.99.  The $14.99 has the higher apparent bitrate; 4.79 GB vs. 4.37 GB.
So my questions is, how do you know for sure you are getting the best release available for any given movie in the iTunes store?

    Caleb,
CC2014 is a new version, which in some ways are closer to the CS versions because some features have been reintroduced.
If you are happy with CC2014 you may uninstall the others.

  • 3 download of the same movies

went to buy a movie and it gave me the same movie 3 times ami going to be charged 3 X

iTunes downloads two versions of the same movie. The second version is the one that can be transferred to your iPod/iPhone (it meets the video/audio encoding requirements of these devices). I'm do not know why it downloaded three version for you but I'm sure you've only been charged once. In any case, you can go to your Purchase History in the iTunes Store by clicking on your Apple ID in the top right corner of the store, logging in if asked and then clicking Purchase History. There you'll be able check all your iTunes purchases and how much you've been charged for each one of them.

  • I downloaded and bought a movie from iTunes on my iPad and now want the same movie on my MacBook Pro but its not offering me to download it, it giving me the options of buying it which I already did. How I get the movie onto my MacBook?

I downloaded and bought a movie from iTunes on my iPad and now want the same movie on my MacBook Pro but its not offering me to download it, it giving me the options of buying it which I already did. How I get the movie onto my MacBook?

You can connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, that should copy it over to the Movies part of your library.
Depending upon what country that you are in, and whether the film studio allows it, you might also be able to re-download it on your Mac via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page.

  • I buy all of our movies on our apple TV that is associated with my apple ID. I want to put a movie on my wife's new iPad but it gives me a 90 day warning that she won't be able to download anything. Do we really have to buy two copies of the same movie?

I want to put a movie on my wife's new iPad but it gives me a 90 day warning that she won't be able to download anything. Do we really have to buy two copies of the same movie? There has to be a way for one family to share movies on all of our devices.

Ahh, thank you! What a pain in the neck. I figure I must have been signed into his account at some other point in time, maybe after... watching a movie..? [Though, that'd be the iTunes store, right? Not the App Store.] Anyway, some situation must've occured where I absentmindedly updated and iPhoto is now tied up with his account.
I'll go ahead and contact support to see if they can get me sorted. I suppose I can just ask him for his password, but.. oh, you know, it's a temporary solution and I guess I was just hoping to easily get iPhoto properly associated with myself again. Thank you!

  • TS3354 I downloaded a HD and SD version of the movie and can't play it on my 1st generation Apple TV

I bought a HD version of a movie and it won't play on my 720 p TV or WIndows PC, then I went back and re-downloaded the SD version of the movie. Now the SD version will play on my Windows computer, but it still won't play on my 1st generation Apple TV.

AppleTV1 can sync with 1 iTunes library - the top one listed in Settings>Computers.
Other libraries are 'shared' or streaming only, and appear under the top entry.
You basically need to remove the current iTunes library from AppleTV - select it and remove it - then adfd it again as the to 'sync' compuetr entry.
NOTE - changing the sync liubrary wipes AppleTV of data though apparently it does not delete items not yet reverse synced to iTunes.  If it buggers up contact iTunes store support.
