2 weeks and counting... please help
I've had my Mac for 2 weeks. I've had to reboot it several times (like windows) for security updates. I've had it lock up 3 times so bad that I had to do a hard reset. Today for the 4th time I opened the lid and it wouldn't come on requiring a hard reset. Upon rebooting it took 5 minutes to get itself going again.
Now tonight, Parallels crashed on me. Tried to run it a second time and it won't even try to load. Opened Finder to go try to open Utilities program and when I scroll down using mouse to get to Utilities folder the Finder window just disappeared and I saw the trash can flicker. Tried again and same thing, except second time all my icons and folders on the desktop are gone.
Now I can't log out or anything. Nothing is working. Do I do yet another hard reset? I can't believe all the good things everyone has to say about Mac being so solid and all the problems I'm having.
Can anyone tell me what to do to get this thing going again? I don't seem to be able to logout or reset as the menus when clicked are not doing anything.

Sorry, this is an MBP that I just received 2 weeks ago. A little more information. I just opened a shell and looked at top and nothing seems to be going on. I then did ps -ax to see if anything related to parallels was running and 2 processes were. I killed them both.... Then tried to restart and when I clicked apple the shell program I had open just closed on its own.
The entire system seems to be asking me to hard reset again. I guess no matter where we go we can't get an OS that actually works. I love my Mac but I see no sign of anyone being able to claim its more stable than anything else.
Please help as I was hoping to get some work done tonight...

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!! -
my ipod generation 5 will not come out of recovery mode. i was simply updating my software and this happened. it will not let me restore it comes up with and error. please help, thanks.

Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.

If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.

If you have registered your device, you can go to https://supportprofile.apple.com/ and log into your apple id. Your devices appear there with serial numbers.
Additionally, your serial number is included on the original receipt when purchased at any Apple Online or Apple Retail store, or any Authorized Apple Reseller. -

Steve DaveyIf you manually manage the device the you can remove the content from the PC after you have put it on the device. However this isn't the recommended way. At some point you'll probably need to restore it which involves wiping all the data. If you don't have all this data to hand then you'll have to try to recover it from a now problematic device first. It's much easier to sync with your library - yes you have two copies, but that's not a waste, it is prudent. As long as you have two copies you can afford to lose one knowing you have a backup. In practice I keep a complete backup of my library, in addition to the subsets of it that I can put on my devices.

You need the Apple ID and password that was originally used to set up the device. Ask the seller to give it to you. If the seller is unable or unwilling to provide the information, the Phone is probably stolen. There is nothing you can do.

This can be the result of selecting the wrong driver. An older, unsupported laser printer will sometimes work with the generic Postscript driver.

thank youYou'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.
