  • Best Practice for DHCP when Anchoring to a Guest Wireless LAN Controller

    Hi all,
I'm interested in the communities opinion in relation to DHCP provisioning when using auto-anchor/guest tunneling.
As far as I can tell, one cannot use the internal DHCP on the anchor controller when using auto-anchor due to incompatibility between the auto-anchor feature and DHCP Option 82.
    The scenario is as follows:
Guest controller is the anchor which provides Internet access to guests.
There is a foreign controller which is configured to anchor to the guest controller.
The internal DHCP server is configured on the guest anchor controller, therefore DHCP proxy must be enabled for DHCP to work.
    DHCP proxy enables Option 82.
The guidlines for guest tunneling state that DHCP Option 82 isn't supported. (Ref: Deploying and Troubleshooting Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers - Ch14)
So, the internal DHCP server requires DHCP proxy to be enabled; this in turn enables Option 82, which stops DHCP leases being made to clients connected to the foreign controller.
Given that a guest WLC would normally be placed in a DMZ, the internal DHCP server may often be the only DHCP solution available.
I look forward to hearing your opinions.
    Thanks
    Rhodri Jenkins

There are a couple of options here if you need to get proxy disabled
    1) pinhole with an ACL that allows dhcp to pass your internal servers
    2) run dhcp on a switch, router, or firewall in the dmz
    3) if you are using a cab,e modem or dsl for the guest users, you can let that do the dhcp
In general I've seen most of these in play, but I like option 2 myself

  • Issues after changing the AP Name on Wireless LAN Controller

I recently changed the AP Name of all the Wireless Access Points in my branch office (which are all associated to the branch office Wireless LAN Controller(s)). After that I noticed that all branch office employees are unable to connect to the employee SSID. The employee SSID uses web authentication and employees are authenticated using Head Office AD via Cisco ACS, both located at the Head Office.
There are other SSID's on the WLC which all work fine, but only employee SSID which uses AD authentication does not work. AD authenticaion is working fine because employee's in HO are successfully able to connect to the employee SSID at HO.
The branch office is connected to the HO via a tunnel link. We noticed that if we restart both the ASA at either ends of the tunnel. The employee SSID starts working again but only temporarily for a day or so... what could be the issue? Can renaming the AP's cause issues? How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Elliott,
I did the debug like you said and I am getting the following debug messages:
*apfMsConnTask_0: Jun 20 08:18:14.580: Deleting the client immediatly since WLAN is changed
    and also
    *apfReceiveTask: Jun 20 05:25:11.857: 00:1f:3c:86:af:15 Orphan Packet from 192.168.52.34
The logging on the WLC shows
    *apfReceiveTask: Jun 18 17:56:41.788: %MM-1-ANCHOR_UNAVAILABLE: mm_mobile.c:2155
All export anchors are down. Cannot anchor the client.00:c0:a8:f3:cd:ae
The DHCP pool for the employee users are configured on a guest WLC which sits behind an ASA

  • Wireless Lan Controller Issue

    Hi All,
We have a Wireless Lan Controller 4402 with software version 4.0.155.5. On Friday we experience a problem where our clients wouldn't get redirected to the internal webpage for authentication. It would just come up with page not found. We know the page was working fine becasue we could manually type in the
    https://1.1.1.1/login.html and the
page would come up and you could login successfully. The users who were already connected to the controller were not affected and continued to operate. We have 2 other WLC's at the same software revision and they were not affected so I don't think it has anything to to with software level. Its like the webserver in the wlc failed to work. We failed over the AP's to the 3rd WLC and rebooted WLC1. After the WLC1 restarted we failed one of the previous non-working AP's back to it and it works again.
I know "now" there is debug commands to run at the time when the WLC wasn't working, but unfortunately I didn't know at the time. The WLC is running again fine and I was wondering if anybody has seen this issue before.
Any ideas on a fix or reason would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

We are running WiSM 4.1.185.0 and we just had the similar problem with one controller. The other three controllers were fine when it happened. The exactly issue was the nslookup failed(timed out) from the client, so the web login page won't show when people lunch the browser. A reboot of the controller fixed the problem. We have been running Cisco LWAPP for more than a year (from 4.0.155.5 to 4.1.185.0) and it is the first time we see this problem. TAC is still investigating the cause.

  • What should I download as the wireless LAN driver/adapter

When I search for a wireless LAN driver in the hp site there are 8 or more wireless LAN drivers/adapters under different names. I do not know what exactly I need. please help me. I downloaded Mediatek 802.11wireless LAN adapter driver but I couldn't connect to any other laptop's wifi hotspot. Sometimes it says "Connecting to the connecting to the network is taking longer than usual".Because of this I can not play LAN games. I know the connection is limited but connecting to the network should be fast and there should not be any problem with it.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions.  I understand that you are looking to find out which Wireless LAN driver you should download for your Wireless Adapter. If you look under your device manager, what does it say under Network Adapters ?  You can right click on the Network Adapter it lists and click Update Driver Software right there. Do you have any exclamations marks or red x's? Your could also use the HP Support Assistant to make sure that all of your updates have been done. That would put the proper driver in also.  If you want to use the HP Pavilion 15-n240tx Notebook PC Driver Webpage, all you have to do is find out what the name of your Network Adapter is in your Device Manager. (Picture above) Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • Two wireless LANs?

    Hi all,
I recently picked up a 2504 wireless controller and two 3702i APs.  It is all for my home, and I will be connecting it all soon.  I simply want to create two wireless networks; one for "production" and one "guest" network, which will allow internet access and nothing more.  I'd like that to be for phones, iPads, game consoles, etc...
I've found that many of those types of devices don't work on the 5GHz band, so I would like to make the production network 5GHz while the guest network would be 2.4GHz.
My first question is...  Can I do this?
My second question is...  If so, how?
And my last question is...  How do I ensure that devices connected to guest have no access to the production network?
Any other questions I should be asking?
    Thanks!

    yup!
    1) On the WLC create 2 dynamic interfaces and give them each an IP address. These very interfaces are the gateway between the wired and wireless lan controller. Then you can tie the dynamic interfaces to WLC ports.
    2) On the switch you will want to add these 2 vlans and connect them to the respected ports.
See the config guide for step by step. Its not really hard.
You can configure WLANs one for production and one for guest. You can even do your own personal guest page of you like. Check out WebAuth on a cisco WLC.
As for securing the guest from the production. On the wired side SVI you can put a simple ACL.
    Hope this helps

  • HP Officejet 6500, Windows XP and 7, wireless LAN security code is not accepted

The security code of my wireless LAN is not accepted by the HP6500A. According to the diagnostic software of HP a code consisting of more than 50 characters is required (the total number of characters can not be identified because the code isgoing on out of the window). The security code of the route consists of 12 characters. Resetting the printer is not solving the problem.
This problem was identified after rinstalling the software after problems with printing: connection with the printer was identified; message: "busy with printing", but no printing result at all.

Security codes can be in ASCII or HEX.  I'm guessing that the diagnostics is reporting HEX and the printer entry is in ASCII.
You can try running the diagnostics SW on the Windows 7 computer.  It might return the key in ASCII.
A good option is to get the password from somewhere other than the diagnostics.  Maybe you stored it somewhere or wrote it down?  Once you get it try to enter from the front panel.
Can I get a little information from you?
    What router brand model?
What security mode are you using (WEP, WPA, WPA2)?
Which model of the 6500 do you have (6500 or 6500a)?

  • Weird lost access to iMac's desktop via Airport Extreme wireless LAN

This is weird and complicated. I'll try to keep it simple.
    1. Two computers on a wireless LAN via Airport Extreme: G4 Powerbook and 20" G5 iMac. The LAN has worked flawlessly and seamlessly for several years, and except for this ONE anomaly, still does.
    2. When logged-in to the iMac from the Powerbook, all its files and contents show up normally in it's networked-drive window in Finder,
    3. EXCEPT the desktop. And I mean the real desktop which is under my ID under USERS.
    4. Searching the Powerbook from the iMac, however, works just fine and shows all of the Powerbook's contents.
Repairs of Permissions on both computers have accomplished nothing.
There is one other peculiar symptom: there was a .wmv movie file sent me by a friend, and I had a copy of it on the desktops of both computers. It sat there, showed up and ran just fine, until one day something curious happened:
The file would show up in the column-view Finder window of the iMac's desktop when I opened it from the Finder Window, but would, after about a second, disappear!
If I try to import, on the Powerbook, some random file into the iMac's Desktop folder, it appears for a brief second and then the folder once again displays as empty.
I have trashed that wmv file, and yet sometimes its name blinks up on the iMac's desktop list (that is, again, the column view display in the Finder window).
    This is profoundly weird.
Oh, and there's nothing changed or weird about the SHARING settings. Personal File Sharing is enabled on both computers, as is Printer Sharing, and itunes music sharing is also enabled. All of these continue to work just fine. Firewall is enabled, but always has been.
    Owen

Well, when in doubt try all the obvious things FIRST!
I rank Disk Utility from the install disk, did a disk repair, and, well, Bob's your uncle, and all is fine again. Apparently that ghost file screwed up the count of files (I'm not sure what that means, but it seems consistent with a file that would materialize and then disappear, and screw up display of a folder's contents - the folder it was lurking-in invisibly.
    Very peculiar, none the less.
    Owen
I'll leave this open for another day, if only to see if someone has an explanation for what may have happened, since that might be useful to others, besides satisfying my own curiosity.

  • Remote System Explorer on a Wireless LAN

On a wireless LAN when I use Remote System Explorer, it knocks our Fieldpoint network modules off-line. We are unable to ping them. Once we restart the units, they work fine until someone uses the Remote System Explorer again. Any ideas?

We have FP1600s and FP2015s. It only affects certain FP1600s. Firmware revision is 3.0 on the 1600s. Some older ones are not affected and some newer ones are. We configure them in the shop on a LAN, then move them to a field environment. The only firewall is point of entry onto the post.
When using Remote System Explorer (the latest and greatest version), one at a time is "knocked off line". Every time Remote System Explorer refreshes another 1600 is knocked off line. I see no relevance to a crossover cable. This occurs over a WLAN. If we don't use Remote System Explorer then they just chug along fine.
I have used the FP1600 Diagnostic Utility which was a mistake. Now the status LEDs blinks red 7 times.

    Hey guys,
I have purchased the Yoga 13 in U.A.E in last Feb. with AED4,999.00
But some programms does not work with Windows 8. So I am using Windows7 with multi-boot.
Guess you guys also have such problem.. eventually finding out the WIFI Driver & USB3.0 Driver.
Now, I have succeeded in installing both of them.
    1. Wireless Lan Driver : Realtek RTL8723A Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.
The way I found this driver is... Download all the REALTEK driver in a designated folder.. of course uncompressed.
And then using the contraol panel... updated the driver with the designated folder.
Now it is working very well.
    2. USB3.0 Driver
It was an easy game. I just have downloaded thee Intel USB3.0 Driver for Windows7... you could find it through google with easy.
And just installed it. It works very well.
=> You could download the file at http://me2.do/xKBVnWo3
          (just put password : 4321 )
If you guys have problem with above issues... or need the file let me know with my mail at xxxxxxxxxxx
Anyhow, there are still two drivers I couldn't find.

  • Windows 8 and Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

    Hi!
I hava a Toshiba L650 - 107 PSKI JE and I am having a problem with the my wireless network adapter on windows 8.
My network adapter is Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC and works fine on windows 7. Two days ago I formatted my hard drive and install windows 8. The problem is that for much drivers I keep installing, The wireless keep turned off. There's no way I can move the slide from off to on.
I already tried a lot of drivers from toshiba and from realtek but doesn't work.
I went to see the Network Connections (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections) and the Ethernet is fine, I connect a cable and it is fine, but wi-fi says "Not connected".
How do I solve this problem?

    Satellite L650-107 (PSK1JE-00P003EP)
    Downloads here.
A computer from Portugal? (Specifications attached.)
This driver should work on Windows 8.
       Realtek Wireless LAN Driver
But your problems may be more fundamental. Prior to loading Toshiba-specific programs, you probably need to install something like this.
Toshiba System Driver - Windows 8 beta
And for the function keys to work, you'll need still another Toshiba utility.

  • Wireless LAN does not work after restart

    Hey
My brand new laptop suddenly went blank earlier today and when I restarted it I noticed my wireless internet won't work. It is also asking me to install some new driver, the Network Controller? I am confused as everything was working fine and suddenly it's not. Anyone any ideas? :-/

    Hi,
maybe you should try to install the driver for your wireless lan card. I mean, if some application damaged the driver or installed something which interferes with the wireless lan card then you should try to fix it with an reinstallation of the driver.
Heres a [LINK|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp] to the drivers download page from Toshiba. Pick your model and your operating system and download the driver which fits for your wireless lan card.

I just bought a PCI Wireless Lan Card for my G5 tower.
Specifically the card i bought is:

    It is a Ralink - www.Ralinktech.com
I installed the driver. Both the card and the driver show up in the System Profiler.
    BEYOND THIS I AM CLUELESS!

PCI Is at the top of the list. it says NOT CONNECTED next to it. But. Where it says status it says: "STATUS: Cable unplugged" ( and underneath) "The cable for PCI Ethernet Slot 4 is not Plugged In."
    What cable??
Configure is set to "Using DHCP"
As i said before. in system profiler it shows up in the correct slot and the driver is installed.
Ralink has its own software that pops up too called WirelessUtilityCardBusPCI. Without me doing anything, my router name shows up on its list so it does recognize it. But connecting to the internet i cannot do nor getting it to come up in System Prefs. Anybody Mess with WirelessUtilityCardBusPCI?
