2 x GTX 770 bizarre issue.

Thought I'd post here tonight as I'm scratching my head wondering what the issue is.
I removed my 2 GTX 670's and replaced them with 2 MSI GTX 770 Gaming OC's - initially no display but worked out it was a cable issue.
Booted into my working Win 7 64 bit - No sound or rather the sound is just crackling sounds. Removed the sound and video drivers - re-installed - same thing. Tried external USB sound card - same thing.
Clean Windows 7 install - same thing before I even install the sound driver for the on-board sound card.
Basically nothing I can think of should cause this - but essentially I can't get sound on anything, where it once worked before. I'm running a 1200W PSU, so I can't see it being a power issue, so basically I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to why swapping the graphics would stop all sound working.
TIA

Finally solved the issue.
After swapping the motherboard again and getting no video, I slightly moved the first video card (after removing the second one) up a little and I got a video signal (we're talking 2mm movement).
Added the second card - nothing. Swapped the power over between card 1 and 2. Nothing. Swapped 6 and 8 pin power leads around (as they are both 8 pin which you can remove 2). PC started.
So basically..........it seems the sound went wonky on board 1, but the power leads wanted to be in a certain way around to work in SLI.
I know everyone is probably thinking it's probably the PSU leads at the PSU end, but they are both 8 pin cables and worked either way around in card 1. So.......just one of those really random, weird things.

  • Issue with Power management MSI Gforce GTX 770

    Hello,
I contact you since I have bought one month ago a GForce GTX 770
I do not have the serial Number but could havez a look at it quickly if needed
I have since the beginning recurrent issues with the graphic cards and require support.
    System Windows 7 64 bits
Last official Pilots up to date 335.23
I also tryed the provided drivers 331.21 (9.18.13.3182 more precisely)
    Issue
When the graphic cards is reauired high demands (in case of high GPU demand for games) the nvidia driver is crashing (nvlddmkm.sys). Sometimes windows recovers, sometimes not, the system is fully dead and only windows restore function could help restarting the system and restore stable driver set.

Sorry for the replacements of XML and slashes stuff but it can t validate and can't validate either the code tag...
    Result
Impossible to play games such as Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls without having a crash every 5-15 min...
Impossible to run 3Dmark tests until the end. It somehow crashes sooner or later.
In low charge the driver never crash.
    Tests I did
Based on this new computer (everything is new into it)
    - Power supply seems to be the cause, thus i tested a more powerful one (520w to 700w) same result
    - i changed the card of PCI express plug on the mother board which did not do anything
    - I reinstalled fully win 7 and did the minimum installs such as antivirus and graphic drivers from nvidia. same result
    - I updated Power supply windows settings to high performance in order to disable auto adaptative voltage from the system. same result
    - I updated as well power supply nvidia option to best performances which did not solved the issue as well.
Tests I did not do, since they are intrusive
Update the Bios ? did not know if you have a more recent one
    My bios version is NV282MS.3A0
    Downclock the graphic card
I will soon extract the card to put it in another computer to validate that this the card[SLASH]pilot that is having issue:
What should I do to have a clear evidence of the issue which could be either the card itself, of the bios which does not manage properly the power consumption ?? How can I send you useful logs ? Is there is a diagnostic tool to provide you with better data to dig in ?
I am stucked and unable to use properly this nez configuration ...
Thanks in advance for your help
    best regards
    Fabien

Okay, some more hints to graphic Card issue ...

    Result
    1 Old Computer with GTX770
Crash reproduced after a full 3D Mark
My idea is that the computer itself is old and do not ask so much the GPU to work. Hard to reach the full power requirement. It has also a small 1280x1024 screen. But problem finally reproduced... so Issue lies in the Graphic Card
2 New computer with old Radeon
3D Mark fully launched multiple time without any crash
Another hint saying Graphic Card has issue.
    Now a few questions :
    - Does the NVidia Bios flash changes the guarantee on it ? I mean the CG is new, I do not want to lose the guarantee.
Thanks a lot for your time.
    Best regards

  • PSE 11 editor has stopped importing from scanner, no longer permits drag and drop, will not permit cropping, and other bizarre issues

    Windows 8.1, PSE 11
I am having a number of issues including loss of import functionality from scanner, I can't drag and drop photos into the editor any more as well, or at least not after the first one. The crop function stops working after the first couple of photos.  Then some freezing.  A little added crashing.  A plethora of other bizarre issues as well.  This just stated happening a couple of days ago.
    What I have tried:
    Uninstall/Install.
Deleted preferences both before opening Editor (crontrol-alt-delete) and after opening it.
    Kindly advise.  Thanks!

OK! Check it, like I said in previous posts I seemed to have narrowed it down to specific mp3s not converting and playing in their native sample rate which if paired with another sample would give you the "audio midi sync" error and basically screw up your clock! It appears mp3 files converting to mp3 using iTunes would not convert to the correct sample rate if set to something other than 44 in logic and cause this. A tad peculiar Apple iTunes won't work with Apple Logic. I was able to confirm this on two mac's via my friend in Florida. He's running Tiger and tried the same experiment and Booya! Mickey Mouse! It appears this insane week long adventure has came to an end (...god willing) with a super specific unlucky shot in the dark on my part finally revealed to be an perfectly normal function of Logic (obviously one i'm not fond of..) As far as the errors / crashes / system overloads / kernal panics I think I can sort those out to the mackie onyx satellite not being a good choice and trying to add and remove firewire devices in the middle of the sample rate mayhem. Wow! all I can say is, I'm glad it's over
Wish me a lot of luck in the future.. I'm sure i'll need it!

  • Req: GTX 770 TF 2GD5/OC VBIOS

    Hi there.
    I have an MSI GTX 770 (N770 TF 2GD5/OC)
    S/N 602-V282-220B1309046698
I tried to update the VBIOS via MSI Live Update but I had issues, not 100% certain if my VBIOS was updated as it froze/hung but since then I have no display when my PC boots - I can boot into Windows just fine (Win8.0 x64) but I cannot get any display in the BIOS either via DVI or HDMI.
Other thing I notice is that it takes a much longer time to boot, usually from a cold boot to Windows's login screen it would take less than 10 seconds, but now it's much longer, maybe my BIOS is prompting me for something but since I have no display I cannot tell.  Once Windows boots up, all is perfectly fine, though.
I have tried a few different VBIOS flashes for my GTX 770 since then but no joy in getting display in the BIOS.
I have the latest bios for my motherboard, an Asus P8P67-M Pro B3.
Everything is otherwise fine, Windows, gaming etc is all fine apart from no display during boot or BIOS.

Thanks, flashed, shutdown and started up again but no change.  I don't get any display until the Windows 8 login screen.
Is there an older vbios I can try for my card? I'm wondering if it's not related to the UEFI GOP feature the new vbios's offer?

  • GTX 770 2GB Twin Frozr OC does not POST

Been building new PC over last couple of days. When I do not have the graphics card installed my system works fine.  With the graphics card installed I am unable to reach the POST screen.  I have switched the monitor cable between the graphics card and motherboard and do not receive an output signal for either.  I have also swapped out the power cable going to the graphics card as well as tried different PCI outputs coming from the PSU.
I do not have access to another computer to try the graphics card on.
What are your recommendations for my next troubleshooting step?  All system components are brand new.
    System Info:
    chip: Intel i5 4670k
    cooling: Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler
    psu: Corsair AX760 fully modular
    memory: Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) Vengeance LP DDR3 1600MHz
graphics card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB Twin Frozr OC
    motherboard: MSI Z87I-GAMING-AC
    OS: Windows 8.1 64
    storage: Samsung 840 EVO

Well as you don't have access to different computer to test it with, it's quite difficult. (friends? got any friends? :D )
I'd start off with... testing in another rig.  Also it would be really good if you could test different card in your PC. As you said you're not able to test, maybe go to some local store and ask if they can test your PC?
Did you give CMOS clearing a shot? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<  Also I'd look through BIOS settings.
Make sure it is fully pushed in, same with PCIe power cabling. Sometimes this might be an issue, as you can think it is fully in, but it's not.

  • Mac Pro 2012, GTX 770, OSX 10.8.5 and 4K monitor

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure, so it's better to ask.
I have the previous model of Mac Pro (12 core 3.33GHz) with GTX 770 plugged in. The system is 10.8.5. Till now, I was using Apple Cinema Display HD 30", but I would like to change it to a better monitor with 4K resolution if it will be possible. The question is, will it work fine with this card and under this version of OS?
I don't want to upgrade the OS, because well… I don't like how it looks like, so this version of OS is quite important for me.
The graphic card itself can run this resolution without a problem, but what a bout the OSX? Everything will be OK?

MarekO I do recall your name from before, just not the particulars.
Apple never updates specs on maximum memory, hard drive compatibility and other things. Even the fact that the ATI 5770 worked in any and all Mac Pro models outside of audio support, which was a godsend to many like me with a 2006 1,1.
Someone wrote that one GPU required 800MHz DDR2 (mine came with 667MHz) so people wanted to just swap the memory figuring that was what the graphic card needed. Nothing to do with memory speed. Everything to do with EFI 32 vs 64 (and no mention of UEFI or the more accurate and technical).
    Okay
Did you read where the ASUS monitor customer had trouble? and that a firmware upgrade helped? Notice also the horrid customer support they first received and how miniDisplayPort vs DisplayPort?
I am sorry I don't have more experience or own a 4k monitor Would like to, sure.
There have been - especially a year ago - there was a lot of "hand-wringing" over which brand and models of 4k would even work on a 6,1 - let alone work with GTX 770 (which is supported on your Mac when running Windows btw in 4k mode, so there!)
Here is help and to wet your appetite:
Anyhow, can't help but be reminded today when I discovered how to enable 60Hz 4K MST on Nvidia cards. Seems Apple didn't want the cMP rubbing elbows with nMP so took to some more deliberate knee-capping. (how Kerrigan-esque !)
I put the Asus PQ321 in MST mode and Nvidia GPU can output 3840x2160. And if I run the "OpenClOcenawaves" bench, I get 61fps. Anyone familiar with this app knows it has been locked to refresh rate for last 2 OS builds. You can unhook it with Quartz Debug, but for my purposes, better not.

Exciting stuff!! Though to be honest I had no idea we couldn't already plug a 4K display into our cMP's and get 60Hz support. I thought that was what they fixed in 10.9.3?
Only on AMD cards, been there since 10.9.2 I think. They stacked the deck against Nvidia, they have been limited to 30Hz. Artificially as it turns out.
SST displays are a different story.
    Suddenly it's 1984 - Nvidia 4K 60 Hz support is there, Apple turned it off ( 1 2 3 4)
    MacVidCards
So AMD vs NVidia stuff. And can't cannibalize AMD on cMP without also damaging Dxxx so the R9 280x and above are a safer bet.
People have been (trying) to tell me that the CUDA vs OpenCL is "history" and not as big an issue (though AMD drivers and Adobe apps on nMP 6,1 and those Dxxx's are (or have been) a real issue for the last year. It can take 12-18 months for changes, to make their way into the market and next Adobe upgrade. So they have had their year!

  • [REQUEST] UEFI Bios for GTX 770

Can you please send me the latest  bios that will allow me to boot MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr 2GB o/c  with UEFI in Win 8.1 64bit using SSD.
I have looked at the MSI website and the bios files for my card are not available for download.  Apparently only via MSI Live update?
My PC will not boot into Win 8.1 64 bit so this option is useless for me.
Even when I state in bios to use CPU graphics it halts saying windows 8 graphics card not detected and requests that I disable Win 8.1 support?   Thus leaving me having to physically remove card to boot.
This must be a bios error surely?  I thought the point of being able to choose graphics output methods is so you don't have to remove card?
    My PC is:
Motherboard:   MSI  Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard  Bios MS-7916  version 1.90
Video Card:     MSI GTX 770 O/C 2GB Twin Frozr Gaming    Serial :  602-V282-20SB1307057588
To be honest the reason I bought an MSI motherboard AND an MSI video card was so I did not have these type of issues?????
    Thank you.

  • Help needed with my new GTX 770 4GB OC card settings

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum so excuse me if this subject already been bought up,
i have recently got the msi twin frozr gtx 770 4gb oc edition, and I'm not happy at all , as the box did not come with a manual on how to get the oc mode active etc,
the software cd that came with it has a gaming app + msi afterburner so i have installed everything, and i open the gaming app, it gives me a silent mode + gameing mode + oc mode, so i click oc mode for example and all it gives me is 1254MHz  so i run afterburner i see that my temps reaches 50c + and i try to control the fan speed of my card but the gaming mode doesn't allow it to adjust to 100 % fan speed , anyway enough said let me go to the main part, i have got the kombustor running and done some tests, i found out that i have been getting low fps with the 1254MHz and my voltage clock is 1.2v ... i used to have a gtx560ti and the gtx770 fps is the same as my old card    this is jokes , now i wished i didn't even buy the gtx770 its expensive for nothing,
and the thing that makes me  is that msi didn't put any info manual in the box apart of how to install your graphics on the motherboard,
by the way my PC specs are:
    I7 4770K @ 4ghz
    16gb corsair ram @ 1600
    TX850 corsair power supply
i have the latest graphics drivers installed , got it from nvidia website (327.23) for the gtx770
by the way the kombuster score i was getting was 190 fps
with physx on, and no anti aliasing,
here's my picture of the clocks I'm getting currently
could anyone out there that have the same card is mine confirm that my card is normal ?
or is there something i need to download or get to make my fps stable as it should be for this card ?
oh and i forgot to tell you that my friend has also recently got this card and is also stuck,
hes got lower mhz than mine and lower voltages like 1.8v or something
I'm sure that theres something that we haven't done to get the best out of this graphics card
its one of the best graphics card out there,
anyway enough of writing up an essay    waiting for someone to help me out
    many thanks in advance
    Regards

the memory clock is right as its GDDR (Graphics Double Data Rate) so it has to be doubled making it 3506 x 2 (3506+3506) total of 7012Mhz (advertised GDDR5 7010MHz Memory)
as for you low FPS its more then likely a driver problem as nearly all GTX 770's are having issues and reporting low FPS you could try other drivers from Nvidia's like the lower ones or the newer Beta Driver 331.40 and see if it makes any difference!

  • MSI GTX 770 driver keeps falling

    Hello,
I am proud owner of MSI GTX770 OC,but now(well, maybe for half a year) I continuosly having problems with about 3-5 sec blackouts. When its occur, bubble appear from right lower corner telling that driver Geforce Experience v. xxxxx stop working. Sometimes blackout is permanent, I hear sounds from game but my monitor just put itself into sleep as its not get any ,.instructions". I am not sure what it could be as it is happens very randomly, sometimes I turn on computer and, as I am using Intel Xeon procesor without intergrated card, have resolution about 400x100 with 8 colours so only thing I can do is restart. I was searching if anyone else have this issue and cant find anything. I was thinking maybe cable is somehow damaged, using DVI-DVI.

Well, it occur in very different situtations... Nothing happens for a week, then its start again and then again nothing for some time. But for last two weeks its occur too much so I am getting pretty annoyed. I using this pc mostly for gaming, playing almost only world of warcraft on ultra so card temp si about 60C all the time. But I dont think its problem of gaming, because for example when I wake up today, I was going to take a breakfast, then turn on computer. After about 20sec(using SSD) everything seems ready so I turn on browser to check something and then its happens again...but totally, I had to restart comp, but graphic didnt load and there was some horrible resolution and colours like if gc doesnt working. So I restart again and then everything ok. Then I was playing for two hours with no problem. I was going to make and eat some dinner quiting everything and when I came back it was there again, pc button glow like pc running but doesnt react on anything, so I have to restart. As long as I remember, its never happens when I watched some movie.
Most times its fine, I usually play even 10 hours in a row without any problem but when blackout occur there is a high chance that there will be another soon.
I dont think I have bad driver. I am using GeForce Experience which is just only driver for NVIDIA cards and there were about 10 updates since its happens first and no one of these helps with that.

  • MSI GTX 770 TF minimum fan speed limit

Hi guys, seen a few others with the same problem here, but haven't found any solution.
I have GTX 770 TF and my problem is that I can't set the RPM lower than 34%, which is about 1000RPM. Core temperature in idle is 33C and these two fans are the only thing moving in my case, that's why I would love to change this behaviour (possibility to turn of the fans will be the best case scenario)
Tried Kepler BIOS tweaker with no success and I'm not willing to pay for Svet's application with no guarantee that it will help me change anything.
So the question is: is anyone here that solved this issue?

  • MSI Twin Frozr GeForce 770 Compatibility Issue?

My new system crashes intermittently during any game. I normally can play for about a half hour but the times very greatly. Also the way the game crashes varies. Sometimes the game will just shut game. Sometimes it will freeze. And Sometimes the computer will turn right off.
I think it might be a compatibility issue because when I put my other video card (A GeForce 550ti) into this computer it runs fine. Also when I run the GeForce 770 in my other computer it seems to run fine there too.
Do you guys think this is a hardware compatibility issue? Or do you have any troubleshooting suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • GTX 770 not booting

I just got a EVGA GTX 770 gpu for my HP Phoenix h9-1120t. I installed it, plugged in the PSU pins and made sure it was securely placed but when I turn on my computer I just a blank screen and some beeps.
    Here are my PC specs:
    i7-3770K CPU 3.50 GHz
    Pegatron IPMMB-FM
    10 GB RAM
    600w PSU
    Liquid Cooled
    Any suggestions?

I too have an HP Phoenix h9-1120t, and I have the answer for you.  But its probably not what you want to hear.
Here's my story:  I have a close friend who works in a local computer repair shop so he gets huge discounts/dealer prices on parts, and accessories and is always hooking me up with trades/parts etc.. so my plan was to upgrade the graphics card in my Phoenix, since my wife uses it all the time now - and I pretty much am using a new rig I just built anyway which is based on a i7 4770k.
My h9-1120t has almost the same specs as yours with a few things I've added- a liquid cooled i7 3770k, 16GB of 1600 MHz Crucial RAM, a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB boot drive (I added), the original Intel 160GB SSD (now used for music/photos),1TB Hitachi 7200RPM HDD, Blu-Ray drive, and a MSI Power Edition GTX 670.  This rig has worked exceptionally and is actually a really a very decent and blazing fast rig.  My friend Brice actually likes my Phoenix and he really despises HP and Dell - but he has been impressed with its performance and speed which keeps pace and even sometimes beats his own self-built heavily overclocked i7 3770k rig.
So...I was able to trade my MSI GTX 670 with him for a brand new EVGA GTX 770 w/ACX cooling (and about $25 bucks) - and I was planning to put it in the HP Phoenix rig which has the Pegatron IPMMB-FM Formosa motherboard you mentioned.  After about three days and countless hours of customer service with HP, EVGA, calling Brice, research, and swearing - I could not get this card to work in the Phoenix h9-1120t (it worked flawlessly in my other self-built rig and Brice's i7 3770k rig so I knew it wasn't the card), I FINALLY found out the Pegatron Formosa motherboard we have is NOT compatible with the 700 series of Nvidia graphics cards.  I know this seems strange because the GTX 770 is a GK104 based card, just like the GTX 670 and GTX 680, however, the 1120t will not complete the boot process with any 7xx series card installed.  Nvidia did just enough tweaking and changed a few things in the circuitry/PCB to cause it to not allow the boot to complete on the Formosa mobo.
THIS WAS A HAIR PULLING NIGHTMARE - trying to figure this one out, and I'm sure you're right there too.  I stayed up until 3 am the first night working on this thing- and I started about 9:00 in the morning!!!
Bear in mind that there are about 4 different mobos used for the HP Phoenix.   The newer Phoenix's with the Haswell processors use an MSI made "Kaili" Z87 chipset based mobo and the Nvidia 7xx series cards work just fine in them.  No problem.  There is also an older version of the Phoenix which came with Sandy Bridge processors, which was based on a Z68 chipset but I can't say for sure if the 7xx cards work in that one.  Finally there are two variations for the Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy-Bridge-E high end procs, and the 7xx series Nvidia cards seems to work with them.
It's just the Z75 chipset Formosa board we have.  It's a big no-go for anything more powerful than a GTX 680 on this one.  I can't say if a dual GPU GTX 690 will work, because we didn't have one to test- but the Radeon HD 7970 and GTX 680 both work fine (but we did change out the OEM Delta 600 watt PSU to a Corsair TX650 watt, not for the overall wattage mind you, but because the +12v rail was too weak in the Delta PSU).
But the mobo you and I have is based on a OEM version of the Z75 chipset, and it does not play nicely with whatever little changes that Nvidia did to the 700 series cards.  Sometimes the rig will go to the HP logo splash screen and lock-up, and other times the screen will just be blank like you said, followed by the series of error code beeps from the mobo. Such a bummer.
A simple BIOS update for the board COULD correct this issue, but there are none available, and HP cust. service told me they have no plans to make any updates since this particular Phoenix model is now out of production (they actually kept trying to sell me a new Phoenix, which was ridulous).
So, luckily I was able to get a EVGA Superclocked GTX 680 Signature 2 (I couldn't get my GTX 670 P.E. back because he already sold it).  The EVGA GTX 680 works flawlessly and is only +/- 5-10% less than the GTX 770, and was a slight bump over my old MSI 670, so I'm not that upset at all in retrospect.  It's a very decent card and works great.
So the long and short of it is the GTX 770 will NOT work on your mobo.  Either get a GTX 680 or a Radeon HD 7970. That's gonna be the highest-end for this rig.  Again, I was not able to test the dual GPU cards (690 and 7990) , so I can't say if they will work or not but I suspect they won't.  HP cust. service told me that mobo won't handle PSUs any higher than 600-650 watts, so I also suspect you might have issues with any dual GPU card and the Delta PSU.
But trust me, my wife is very happy with the i7 3770k/GTX 680 combo she has now.  Real happy.  BF4 at 60-80FPS on Ultra (@1920x1080) is nothing to scoff at.   And she's running dual 22 inch monitors.
And I ended up putting the GTX 770 in my Haswell rig (I put a GTX 760 in it originally), so all is well that ends well.
Hope this helps, and sorry for the probs you're having.  I've been there.
    Cheers.

  • MSI GTX 770 4Gb/DDR5 OC GPU usage is 0%

    Hi Guys,
I've noticed that when I'm using the "MSI Game App" for OC my GTX770 to game mode or OC mode,
when benchmarking the card with "MSI Kombustor" I see that the GPU load stays at 0% all the time (using the MSI Afterburner SW).
Only when I'm switching the "MSI game App" to Normal mode, or shutting it down it completely and performing Benchmark tests again, the GPU load is rising up to 97%-99% usage.
Using the MSI Afterburner for monitoring the sensors, shows the same results in all scenarios - I can see the core temperature is climbing, but the GPU load stays at 0% all the time  .
    I'm using:
The latest NVIDIA GTX 770 drivers (331.82 & tried also 331.93),
The latest MSI game app (v1.0.0.13),
The latest MSI Afterburner Version 2.3.1 & Kombustor.
Mother Board: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R (rev 2)
Video Card: MSI GTX 770 4Gb/DDR5 OC
    Power supply: Corsair RM750.
Any clue how to solve this problem will be much appreciated
Moreover - Can someone please tell me what benchmark score is considered as a good score for this HW setup (using the MSI Kombustor)?
Thanks in advance and a Happy new year to everyone,
    SunShy

The issue is no issue. The Gaming APP blocks usage reading to prevent boost 2.0 to throttle at low usage to have a relatively stable oc clockrate (to have best benchmark results). Don't use the Gaming APP and use Afterburner for overclocking and usage monitoring will work fine.

  • GTX 770 MSI N760 TF Gaming 2GD5/OC Always 50 Degrees?

I'm not sure what's going on here. I upgraded from Tri SLI GTX 470 cards with reference coolers to the MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC. My old video cards would always come near 85-90 degrees when overclocked. But this new MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC never gets any hotter than 50 degree even with Boost and a small user overclock. I'm worried something might be wrong here. But if not, why would you make a video card with all that cooling power and not allow higher voltage that +12? It seems like a waste. I feel like I should have just bought the GTX 760 Hawk. At least that one has unlocked voltage for  higher overclocks. There's a huge $110 difference between these two cards.
Do you think maybe one of the 8-pin power connectors is not working? It just doesn't make sense at all to do something like that. Do you think it might have something to do with my ASUS Hero motherboard? That thing sometimes acts retarded with USBs, so maybe it's reporting false temps?

read about nvidia greenlight its NVIDIA that restricts how much voltage can be used or they void the GPU warranty on the core.
older cards had unlocked voltages but not now (some users where applying more voltage then the chip could safely use and it was Vaporising the silicon on the chip killing them over time and they started it with the Nvidia 6xx series cards so its been around for a while as users where overvolting them and causing overvoltage damage to the GPU so they locked it down or no manufacturer cover for the GPU from nvidia if they did not)
with the hawk models they allow you to overvolt them more but pass the lost cover (as no Greenlight) for the GPU onto the end user!
Crap ya I did screw that title up. Like I said, you can't go back and re-edit a post after so many minutes have past.
Anyways, I have the GTX 770. The thing never goes above 50 degrees Celsius. That's extremely cool I know. Every single video card or CPU I've had I've been able to red line to the max temp though, regardless if my voltage is locked or not. There's always seems to be some kind of point you can reach and the damn thing just shuts down. This card is beyond bizarre. Is it possible that I will never ever see 85 degree on this card? If that's the case, why make a video card like this and not even sniff it's critical point? Am I to guess that's what the 780 or Titan would be then?
I've seen nothing online to help me determine if I'm better off getting the GTX 760 Hawk over this GTX 770 Gaming one. My understanding is that the only advantage is maybe a +13 voltage increase and +185% Power Limit over the GTX 770's +12 voltage and 111% Power Limit. I have Svet's Fermi/Kepler VBIOS Tuner, so getting the +185 Power Limit on the GTX 770 Gaming is not a problem. So the GTX 770 Gaming has some room to overclock. I mean the ASUS Maximus VI motherboards and Haswell CPUs were overclocked at like 7GHz and the damn things weren't even released yet, lol. Where are those results for the Hawk and Gaming?
I was also hoping someone might know the difference in the potential of the 760 Hawk and 770 Gaming. I've seen overclocked reviews for the 760 Hawk, but none that talk about the unlocked potential. I know the 760 Hawk can sniff the GTX 770 in performance, but that's using stock overclocking methods. I would like to know if anyone has been able to successfully overclock the 760 Hawk past an overclocked GTX 770.
