2 x Macs with 2 x IDs, 1 x Lion? HELP!!!

Hi all,
I am downloading Lion as I am doing this. Now in our household we have 1 x Macbookpro and 1 x iMac. I have my ID on one and my partner has her ID on the iMac. I loved apples keynote when they spoke on Lion and it stated you can download it once and use it on all Autherized Macs. Now how will i go about this as i hear that i need the same ID on both macs?
Can i copy lion before i install and install on both?
Do i log into the iMac and change the ID to mine, install and then change back?
Doing 2 - will it cause problems when changing the ID back to my partner?
or will this mean paying twice !!!!!!!????
Ade

Pages 5 is buggy and has had over 100 fetaures removed.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder, use that.

I guess if stolen or lost it would protect my "stuff", and if I'm travelling would protect my privacy.
You must understand the purpose and implications of encryption before deciding whether to use it.
Encryption locks your data with a password. If you forget that password, the data is lost beyond any chance of recovery. Neither Apple nor anyone else will be able to help you recover that data if you don't know the password.
By the same token, the password must be strong enough to provide the security you want. For example, if you're the potential target of industrial espionage by a government or large corporation, you need the strongest possible password. To create and manage such a password safely is a task in itself, not to be undertaken lightly.
If you're only concerned about casual snooping by someone with no special skill, a weak, easily-remembered password is appropriate.
But regardless of the strength of the password, if you lose it, the data is gone forever.
Another point to remember is that if you encrypt your data on one storage device, you must also encrypt it on all other storage devices that would be accessible to the same attacker. Otherwise the data isn't protected. For example, if you keep your computer and your backup drive in the same room, and the internal drive of the computer is not encrypted, then there's no point in encrypting the backup drive.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Find my iPhone with different iCloud IDs

It turns out I have 2 Apple IDs in use between my devices.  I have an app on my iPad that syncs its data to iCloud.  But I learned that I had sent up my phone with a different iCloud ID.  As a result, it could not get the synced data.  I changed the phone to the same account as the ipad and I now have the data on both devices via iCloud.  However, I no longer see my iphone using "Find My iPhone."  This is where it gets interesting.
On my ipad and iphone, under iCloud Account, both have my personal Apple ID.  However, when I login to Find my phone from any device (other phones or my Mac) Find my phone sees the ipad (and the other family phones) but does not see my iphone.  The only difference in setup I can see between my ipad and my iphone is the family Apple ID email is set up on my ipad but is not set up on my phone.  When I login to iCloud on the Mac with my personal account, it sees my phone with no problem, but does not see the other devices.
    Any suggestions?

Essentially, you request on 1 device, accept on the other.  You can use parental controls to keep them from disabling.

  • I ended up with 3 Apple IDs over time.  How can I get it down to one account?

I ended up with 3 Apple IDs over time.  When I sink my iPad, some apps won't sync because the app was purchased under a different account?
How can I get it down to one account and be able to sync all of my iTunes purchases (apps, music, etc.) on my iPad and iPhone?
This is driving me crazy!  grrrr.   :-)
I have .me; .mac and .icloud accounts.

Thanks.  I was afraid of that.  Darn Apple....we use Apple products because they are elegant and easy to use, why can't apple simplify the ID issues???   :-)
    Thanks for the reply.

We would like to have all our music, photos, etc. on the iPad - is it best to create a new combined Apple ID for the iPad and simply upload our music, photos, etc. via our laptop instead? Does this not then render the iCloud useless to us?

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

  • Typekit Sync integration with two Adobe IDs

    Hello,
I have 2 Adobe accounts - not great, I know - because I work for an educational institution.
My school has a copy of Creative Suite 6 that we have owned since before CC was available, which works fine on my Mac with the CC application manager. I am signed into the Adobe ID that was set up with my school e-mail account (.edu and all that), which seemed appropriate at the time since the school owns the license.
I also have a personal Adobe ID with a personal e-mail account (gmail), which I have used to purchase a Typekit Portfolio subscription. I recently applied for and received early access to the Typekit desktop sync feature.
The Problem: if I sign out of CC (currently using my school Adobe ID) then I will lose access to the school's copy of CS 6. If I don't sign in with my personal Adobe ID, however, then I cannot use the Typekit sync feature.
How should I proceed? Is there some way to link my two Adobe IDs to show that they are for the same person, without entangling the financial aspects which are currently split between me and my school?

  • Setup Family Share with Two Apple IDs

Apple has long prevented customers from merging two Apple IDs associated with the same person. With Family Share I thought I might be able to finally share all of my purchases between my two Apple IDs. But I'm not sure how to go about it. One Apple ID is associated with an @mac.com e-mail address. The other @me.com. But when I go to add the former Apple ID account, I get a message that I can't add my own account as a family member. So I'm a little stuck.
Shouldn't I be able to add my other Apple ID as a "family member", so that I can access all the purchases made through it?
Has anyone done this, is there a trick to making it work? Can I re-assign my other Apple ID to a "different user" account to bypass this problem?

    Hi Woodwyn,
Happy Holidays!  As I understand it - there are two possible scenarios you can try if you have iTunes Store content on multiple Apple IDs.  Review the information below and try the path the best suits your situation.
Scenario 1 - Change your Apple ID to a different address
You could rename the Apple ID that you are not currently using as your primary Apple ID for the iTunes store to a different email address, like a Gmail or Yahoo account.  This article explains how to do that:
Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667
    Change your Apple ID
Learn how to change the email address that you use as your Apple ID.
In most cases, your Apple ID is also the primary email address of your Apple ID account. You can change your Apple ID to any other email address you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID. If your email address ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, it's already an Apple ID.
Use these steps to reset your Apple ID:
Sign out of iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, and iMessage on each device that uses your current Apple ID for these services.
    Go to My Apple ID.
Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in. Forgot your password?
Select Edit next to Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID, then select Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now. Didn't receive the email?
When the My Apple ID page opens, sign in with your new Apple ID email address and password. When you see a message that verification is complete, you can start using your updated Apple ID.
Update the features and services that you use with Apple ID, so that each one is using your updated Apple ID.
If you need to change the Apple ID that's signed in to your iOS device, use these steps to sign out, then back in with a different Apple ID.
Scenario #2 - Get all of the content from multiple Apple ID's onto one iOS device
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204053
Can I merge multiple Apple IDs into one?
No. You can't merge two or more Apple IDs into a single one. You can, however, use one Apple ID for iCloud services and another Apple ID for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). See “Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases” for details. Can I change the name of my Apple ID?

Yes. For example, if you get a new email address, you can change your Apple ID from your old address to your new address. @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed.I have purchased music, apps, or books with multiple Apple IDs. How can I get all of this content onto my iOS device?
First, copy all of your purchased content so that it's on the same Mac or PC with iTunes. This computer should be the one you sync your device with.
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between computers
iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between computers
Next, authorize your computer to play content with each Apple ID in iTunes. After your computer is authorized for all of your content, it can be synced to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. How do I restore an iOS device from an iCloud Backup if I use different Apple IDs for iCloud and store purchases?

When you're first prompted for your Apple ID during the restore process, enter the Apple ID you use for iCloud. After your device restarts, you will be presented with another Apple ID prompt before items from the App Store and iBooks Store begin restoring. This time, sign in with the Apple ID you use for Store purchases.
I hope this information helps ....

  • ITunes sync with different Apple IDs

I've got iTunes on my Mac, with my personal Apple ID and content purchased with it, and sync a couple personal iOS devices with it.  All is good.
Now here's the complication.  My wife's business has a couple iPads that are currently synced with a Windows machine at her office.  I need an easier way to maintain them, though, and would like to sync them with my personal machine instead.  But they have content purchased with the Apple ID I set up for my wife's business...  is it possible to sync all these devices and their content with the same machine, despite having two different Apple IDs involved?  Or am I stuck using one machine for my personal stuff and a different machine for the business stuff?
    Thanks in advance!

is it possible to sync all these devices and their content with the same machine, despite having two different Apple IDs involved?
    yes.
a single iTunes can be authorized for up to five Apple ID's. this should work:
    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for both Apple ID's
    2) connect the devices (one after the other) and right-click or control-click them in the iTunes Devices list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPads but, since you transferred the purchases in the previous step, your content will be in iTunes and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
once this is done, the iPads will be associated with your Mac's iTunes library.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
iTunes content can be commingled in the iTunes library on a computer and synced to iOS devices. The computer must be authorized to use the content from the respective Apple IDs in the iTunes Store menu.
