2 x T2000 and RAC and disk formatting

Hi,
Do I have to format my disks differently on my T2000s simply because I am planning on using Oracle10G version 2 RAC for both boxes?

I am not sure what you are aiming at.
The oracle clusterware needs to have a cluster filesystem for its voting and registry files, because these files needs to be shared by all the nodes you are going to use RAC on. (which means the filesystem needs to be able to cope with concurrent access from more than one node)
Next, the oracle database files (datafiles, tempfiles, online redologs, spfile) need to be shared too, which can be either by a cluster filesystem, using raw disks or using ASM. The same is the matter here, these files need to be able to cope with multi-node access.
So, it actually depends on how you have formatted your disks currently, but assuming you mean solaris, and disks formatted with ufs, yes, some disks needs to be reformatted.

    Hello Group.
I have been using Fedora for over a year now and I am about to add a Mac to my line up.
Question: Which file systems can macos read/write too?
Can you point me to a good apple website or resource to read up on this?
My fedora box as linx ext3 file system and I have a fat32 drive as well.
I can get my fedora for example to read from the NFTS but it cannot write too it.
I have all of my music and files sitting on Fedora box and it will be more than the minis 40/80.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey floridiansue,
Do you have an installed email program such as Microsoft Outlook?  If your email is through an online login, such as Gmail, etc, then one will have to create an email association with a program such as Microsoft Outlook on the PC for this Scan to Email system to function.

  • RAC node and disk ping

    Hi,
I have a 10.2.0.3 RAC running on RHELv4. What is a node and disk ping in terms of Oracle RAC? I assume the node ping refers to the hangcheck-timer, or is this wrong? The only disk ping that I recall was in 9i but not heard of this in 10g unless it's something else.
Also, where would I configure these parameters?
    Thanks.

Try ML Note 294430.1: "CSS Timeout Computation in RAC 10g (10g Release 1 and 10g Release 2)" for example.
    Thanks.

  • Seagate 1.5 TB external hard drive and Disk Utility

I have a Seagate 1.5 TB external hard drive. Up until recently it was working fine. I noticed that things stored on it were starting to take longer to open up. There was a relatively constant clicking noise on it, not just when Time Machine was backing up my files. I finally ran Disk Utility and it said that the volume needed to be repaired. Ever since that time the hd is not showing up on my desktop or in my finder. I used the startup disk and went into disk utility but it doesn't appear there. When I turn on the computer in regular mode and go to disk utility it is there, though. When I click "Repair Disk", though, nothing happens. Any suggestions? Do I need to just erase the disk and reformat? I was able to use a program called Data Rescue to get the most important files, but I'd rather not start from scratch.

    Hi jc
Can't say exactly what's wrong or what happened. But sense you have recovered your important files your best bet is to just reset the Partition Scheme and re-Format the drive instead of trying to repair it.
    1. select the drives first icon and then click the Partition tab
    2. under Volume Scheme: for current select 2 Partitions +(2 in your case, 1 for TM and 1 for other files)+
    3. now adjust the size of partitions by clicking on and holding the little dot between the partitions. +(you will probably want to allocate at least 1GB for time machine and the rest for misc. files)+
    4. click the Option button right below that and select GUID Partition Table, then the OK button
    5. then under Volume Information Name the Partitions the larger Time Machine, the smaller whatever
    6. then for Format: select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Apply button.
Optionally if you have say over 500GB of data on your Internal HD it would be best to set that 1.5GB up with just 1 Partition for Time Machine only and use a second drive for misc. files.
Now that you have the External HD properly Partitioned and Formatted open the Time Machine Preference and set it up to use the Time Machine Partition.

  • Will TM-restore just recreate permission and disk problems I was having?

My tale of woe, that of course happens the day before I need by machine for a meeting:
Last night, when I ran check permissions, and then repair permissions on my MacBook Pro, I got the message that permissions could not be repaired. After this, I made my first and only Time Machine backup.
This morning, I could not start-up my MacBook Pro. I just got a blue-gray screen containing a spinning wheel and a progress bar that got to maybe 10% (the progress bar was not numbered) before shutting down. I tried a few more times, but the same thing happened.
I was able to run Verify Disk using the Snow Leopard install disks, but when I ran Repair Disk, it could not repair, and indicated that I must reinstall the OS.
However, I was able to use a Firewire cable and Target Disk mode to get some recent files off of the MBP, which suggests to me that the hard drive is okay, and it's just something with permissions, and/or other disk errors.
I'm trying to figure out how I can restore my system (including settings) without restoring the same permissions errors and disk errors that seemed to have caused this problem in the first place.
My time machine backup was made AFTER the permissions problems. Does this mean that if I do a clean install of Snow Leopard, and then try to restore my system from the Time Machine back-up, that I will end up restoring those permissions errors and disk errors that I had before?
(I also have an older bootable clone (made with Carbon Copy Cloner) of my hard drive from a couple of months ago, but I assume it would be the same issue - that it would recreate the old errors.)
Any help or suggestions would be much-appreciated!

No. Permissions aren't the problem, some sort of directory corruption is. And since Time Machine backups are done file-by-file, rather than disk-sector-by-disc-sector, the exact condition wasn't copied. But if the problem prevented something from getting backed-up, there might be missing or incomplete items.
Your best bet is to boot up from your Install disc again, select Disk Utility again, but this time use it to reformat your internal HD. See #1, especially the yellow box, in Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks. That will only take a few moments.
Then quit Disk Utility, return to the Installer, and install OSX. When your Mac restarts, use +Setup Assistant+ to transfer everything from your backups, per #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum). That will take longer, of course, depending on how much data you have.
When your Mac starts up again, download and install the 10.6.4 "combo" update. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ afterwards.
Once this is sorted out, continue making regular backups! You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial and perhaps browse the rest of the FAQ.

  • Cd and Dvd formats on imac 24

Silly question probably, but with all the cd and dvd formats available, which should we use?DVD-r, Dvd+r... and Cd-r? I was under the impression that the DVD-r and CD-r were the most reliable if we're going to use them on the computer and our home/car units. True? Also, when can the DVD-DL be used? Do they play on home units or only computer? Thanks for your insight.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here. My x86 ISO's worked fine. However, I do suspect something got hatched when Sun rolled in the ZFS code (or something else). On my Blade 100, the SPARC ISO (disk 1) panic's part-way through the boot. I have burned three ISO's successfully, and they all panic. This is the same batch of blank CD's I've used for a number of releases, including the aforementioned x86 disks. So, while whatever the new code is may work on my x86, I'm suspecting it is hanging on your system, and the SPARC compile is panic'ing on my Blade 100.
We're probably going to have to wait a while, as Sun shuts down for the July 4 week. :-(
So much for upgrading my Blade 100 this weekend.

Until I installed the SMC FanControl application my screen would "break up" into strange patterns and then would eventually freeze.  Please help.

If you are trying to upgrade using a gray-faced OS X disk from another system, that won't work, as those disks are locked to the system types they are delivered with. You'll need to drop the $29 on a retail copy of Snow Leopard, which is available from the Apple online store. Note Snow Leopard requires 1GB minimum, and you may want at least 2GB for better performance.

  • SSD M.2 storahci 129 and disk 153 problem

    Hi,
last week I bought an L450 with a 128 GB Transcend SSD connected to the M.2 port. I've installed win 8.1 pro directly on the SSD. Unfortunately the system is lagging quite a lot. It always shows "not responding" in the windows bar and is freezing for several seconds.
In the Windows event log there are mainly two problems appearing: "storahci 129" and "disk 153"
I assume it has to do with the SSD. In the manual I read that it is not recommended to install the OS directly on the M.2 SSD. After the guy in the shop where I bought my notebook told me that there won't be any problems, I installed Windows on the SSD though. I think this topic is related to my issue but the given solution doesn't work for me:
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Inability-to-format-a-22GB-Toshiba-SSD/ta-p/1...
Could I solve this problem by installing windows on my harddrive? But I would prefer a solution for that I don't need to reinstall windows.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
    and welcom to the community.
Both scenarios look as real. Have a look at my signature and compare. You can even consider m.2 SSD 22x42mm 256 Gb drive, those disks are available already.
The disadvantage of item A is more cost of 42 mm m.2 SSD vs 2.5" SSD with the same capacity. Also you'll lost capability to add m.2 wwan card (LTE, for instance).
QM77 chipset, t431s is based on, has 2 channels sata III (6 Gbps) - one for the primary drive, another one for the docking connector. So m.2 slot is connected to the channel that supports sata II specification (3 Gbps). It means laptop with SSD in the primary 2.5" slot should work faster then one with SSD in m.2 slot. In theory. In fact the difference in real applications isn't sensitive.
Use bootable USB stick with OS image for its installation.
Regarding recovery capability it depends whether you are planing to have dual boot machine. Since I don't know easy way to keep recovery option for both win OS. In terms of "recovery" I mean to perform recovery to the factory state. So, pls, specify what'd you like to have.

  • Start up problem and Disk Repair failed...

I recently did an update on firefox and an update on adobe flash. Right after I did those updates, I turned off my computer and couldn't restart!!!
First time I tried to boot, I got to the apple icon with wheels around it. But it just set there like that for several minutes. So I forced it to shot down.
After that, every time I tried to restart I came to a grey screen with a small folder appeared in the center and a flashing question mark...
I then followed instructions in this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
It failed to safe boot and disk repair.
I received the following message while doing the disk repair:
"First Aid failed. Disk Utility stopped repairing disk3 because the following error was encountered. The underlying task reported failure on exit."
    "Repairing disk for disk3
    checking HFS Plus Volume
Catalog file entry not found for extent
    Volume check failed
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
    Repair attempted on 1 volume
    0 HFS volumes repaired
1 volume could not be repaired"
Can this G5 still survive without changing a HD? Could you please help on this issue? Many many many many thanks!!!

If it's just data corruption, erasing the drive will fix the issue. If it's a physical problem with the drive, then no; you will have to replace the drive.
The next thing to try is starting up from your Mac OS X installation disc (for the currently installed system release); insert disc and restart while holding down the C key.
When you get to the first Installer screen, go up to the menu bar and select to run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. In the sidebar, select the internal drive; select the drive and not the volume indented under the drive. Go to the Erase tab. Name the volume +Macintosh HD+ and set the format type to +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+. Then erase, which will re-partition and reformat the drive. This will obviously erase any existing data on the drive.
If the drive is physically OK, this process should complete in less than one minute. If it does, quit Disk Utility to go back to Installer. Run a standard installation on the blank drive.
If the erase process errors out or stalls, you probably have a faulty hard drive.
If the erase process completes successfully, but the subsequent Mac OS X installation stalls (or takes forever) or fails with error, please post back.

  • Upgrading to Mountain Lion and my Format is not (Journaled). Any suggestions?

I'm upgrading to Mountain Lion and my Format is not (Journaled) so it won't let me upgrade. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You just have to enable journaling. To do it, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and choose Macintosh HD or your OS X volume in the sidebar. Then, you will see the button to enable journaling in the toolbar, so press it. When it finishes, run the OS X Mountain Lion installer.

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

Firefox consumes a lot of CPU resources

  • Unable to load wsdl. if currently online please verify the uri and or format of the wsdl

    Hi,
i have one aspx page in which i have embeded an swf object,
which calls webservice to load data,
    it works fine on localhost,
but when uploaded it gives the error no 2032 stream error ,
i added the crossdomain.xml in the root project then that error was gone and found the following error,
"unable to load wsdl. if currently online please verify the uri and or format of the wsdl"
Can anybody help me with this?
Any elp or suggestion will be appriciated.
    Thank You.
    Bhavika

I had the same error message and I believe I added the -use-network=true to the additional compiler arguments to fix the problem.  The default value for this should be true.
Sorry if this doesn't help...It's just a guess.

  • Converting from PDF directly to Java Objects/XML (and PDF format questions)

    Hi,
I posted this originally in the Acrobat Windows forums but was told I might have more luck here, so here goes:
I am desperately trying to find a tool (preferably open source but commercial is fine also) that will sit on top of a PDF and allow me to query it's text for content and formatting (I don't care about images). I have found some tools that get me part of the way there, but nothing that seems to provide an end-to-end solution but is quite lightweight. My main question is WHY are there so many tools that go from PDF to RTF, and many tools that go from RTF to XML, but NONE that I can find that go PDF to XML.
To clarify, by formatting I simply mean whether a line/block of text is bold/italic, and its font size. I am not concerned with exact position on the page. The background is that I will be searching PDFs and assigning importance to whether text is a heading/bodytext etc. We already have a search tool in place so implementing a pure PDF search engine is not an option. I need a lightweight tool that simply allows me to either make calls directly to the PDF OR converts to XML which I can parse.
    Some tools I have tried:
    1) PDFBox (Java Library) - Allows the extraction of text content easily, but doesn't seem to have good support for formatting.
    2) JPedal (Java Library) - Allows extraction of text content easily, and supports formatting IF XML structured data is in the PDF (not the case for my data).
    3)  Nitro PDF (Tool) + RTF to XML (script) - This works quite nicely and shows that PDF to XML is possible, but why do I have to use 2 tools? Also, these are not libraries I can integrate into my app.
    4) iText (Java Library) - Seems great at creating PDFs but poor at extracting content.
I don't really expect someone to give me a perfect solution (although that would be nice!).
Instead, what I'd like to know is WHY tools support PDF to RTF/Word/whatever retaining formatting, and other tools support RTF to XML with the formatting information retained. What is it about PDF and RTF/Word that makes it feasible to convert that way, but not to XML. Also, as I found in 3) above, it is perfectly feasible to end up as XML from PDF, so why do no tools support this reliably!
Many thanks for any advice from PDF gurus.

XML doesn't mean anything - it's just a generic concept for structuring
information.  You need a specific GRAMMAR of XML to mean anything.  So what
grammar would you use?  Something standard?  Make up your own?
However, there are a number of commercial and open source products that can
convert PDF to various XML grammars - SVG, ABW, and various custom grammars.
But the other thing you need to understand is that most PDF files do not
have any structure associated with them (as you saw when using JPEDAL).  As
such, any concepts of paragraphs/sections/tables/etc. Are WILD GUESSES by
    the software in question.

  • Exporting report as PDF and CSV formats same time with out executing DB query twice

    Post Author: cpriyanka
    CA Forum: Exporting
I am using Crystal Report 9.0 version and Java.
I am getting "PrintOutputController" from "ReportClientDocument"
And then by calling export(ReportExportFormat.PDF) generating PDF format report.
Now I need to generate both PDF and CSV format files same time. How can it be done?
My understanding is when we call "export" it does the DB query execution and other functionality.
In that case, if I call "export" two times with two different formats, then DB query will be executed twice and that takes lot of time.
To avoid, is there a way I can all some API so DB query executed once, but I can export report in to multiple formats?
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Are you using the "pull" or "push" method for your crystal reports?  If you are using the "pull" method (the report itself executes the sql) then I believe there is no way around having the query execute twice since it is fired off each time you open and export the report.
If you use the "push" method, however, then you can just create the recordset/dataset and then set the datasouce once for the report.
Here's a broad overview of push and pull though the Crystal Report Viewer is used.  The viewer may or may not be applicable in your case:
