20" 2.66 - comes with 2 1GB sticks - not cool!

I am buying a new 2.66 GHz iMac and noticed that CRUCIAL has a 2GB stick for $49.99.... so I call APPLE only to find out the the iMac comes with two 1GB sticks which means I need to buy two 2GB sticks ($100).
First, is this true? Does the iMac come with both slots filled?
If so, I wonder why - this RAM is not required to be in pairs.
Also, this is frustrating because I will have useless RAM when I take out the two 1GB sticks.
Any thoughts or advice?
That is a GREAT price for Crucial RAM isn't it?

No they do not require matching modules:

Some folks had to pull out 2 512MB modules to upgrade to 2GB and some 2 1GB modules to upgrade to 4GB.
Keep the spare module in a safe place, you never know when you might need it for testing or heaven forbid reinstalling it if the iMac had to go in for service!

This may help, but it's an accessory with an extra cost:

This new Superdrive also supports DVD-Audio so you can load more music into it than a CD.

  • Has anybody finally run the K8T NEO with 2 1GB sticks?

The topic is the question. Is someone running two 1GiG sticks (DDR400) without problems? Let me know, my wife is running out of RAM ocnstantly and I might just give her my 2 512 and go with 2 GIGs for myself if the price is right.

Yes I am. Not had any huge problems yet, but haven't been running it long. I use it with all Office packages and FrontPAge - often with all open at once! ALso use it with Photoshop and Adobe Premiere for image editing and video, with web open on desktop too.
My last system (Abit) had two 1gb sticks in it and started crashing after I owned it for a few weeks, I got it checked out and it turned out that my "There's not enough memory to run this program" messages were caused by a faulty chip on one of the sticks. I got it replaced and neen using those sticks for a while now - and they are the ones I currently use in my K8T

  • I have a new macbook air that comes with iMovie '11 but not iDVD.  There seems to be no way for me to burn a DVD.  What can I do?

How can I get my project onto a DVD?  Why doesn't the computer come with iDVD?

    Hi
What's even worse is that Mac Book Air - Do not have any DVD-station at all !
You need a DVD-burner. There are external USB-connected ones.
You need DVD authoring program as iDVD or Roxio Toast@ or Burn (free)
    my General notes:
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs (if it has a DVD-burner) - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • HT201272 I purchased an album recently on itunes and it was supposed to come with the digital album notes, but I can't find it in my itunes library.

Where do I find digital album booklets in my itunes library?  I recently purchased an album on itunes and it was supposed to come with digital album notes.  The only thing that comes up in my past purchases is the music. Can I repurchase without paying a second time?

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

  • Xw6200 workstation 1gb sticks not working

Hi guys how you doing. I registered on these forums due to a little problem i had today. I recently purchased memory for my
    xw6200. Its the kingston kth-xw8200/1gb.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Kingston-KTH-XW8200-1G-1GB-400MHz-DDR2-400-PC2-3200-/250653130144?cmd=ViewItem&p...
According to the memory specs this memory is designed for my workstation and should be working with no blips. Ive tried reseating the memory in this configuration
    slot 1-1gb
    slot 2-1gb
    slot 3-none
    slot 4-none
but the system just repeats 5 beeps on startup and wont boot.
I know its not a problem with the mobo b/c i have 2gb in there right now (512x4) so maybe the ram is just doa because it is supported by my system. Im not sure. any help would be appreciated, thanks

The slots 1 & 2 you are referring to should be closest to the serial port.  If there is a BIOS update available for the computer install it.  Test the two 1GB DIMMs one at a time to see if one works and one fails.  If that happens then you do have a bad DIMM.  If they both fail then there is more to it than that.  In which case you should contact Kingston tech support by phone, (800) 435-0640, to verify if the memory is indeed authentic Kingston ram.  Many counterfeit parts are being sold on Ebay these days.

  • It says the ipod touch comes with IMessage, mine does not have IMessage anymore, i just got a new one, cause i broke the screen on my old one, and i no longer have IMessage, how can i get it back? HELP!

I need to figure out how to get IMessage.

The chances are your replacement came with an older version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > About > Software Version... does it say something between 4.0 and 4.3.5?
Plug it in to a computer with iTunes to update it. When you launch iTunes it should prompt you to update to iOS 5.1.

  • Tuxera Version That Comes with HDTC705XK3A1 Does Not Support on Install on MAC OSX 10.9.2

The Tuxera version pre-installed (2012.3.6) on my hard drive does not support Mac OS X 10.9.2
I first looked at the support site and it says there isn't any updates for drivers & software for the Toshiba 500GB Canvio Connect Portable Hard Drive (HDTC705XK3A).
I am on OSX 10.9.2 and would like a working copy of Tuxera to use with my new Toshiba drive.  Please advise where I get the updated version.  Going to Tuxera requires buying a copy of the software.
    Thanks,
    Doug

I have the same problem after an upgrade to my iMac.  Fortunitely, a wWindows machine will read your drive.  I also have a new Macbook Pro with 10.9.3 on it and it loaded Tuxera correctly. Not sure why it works on one not the other.  I wnet through the following steps:
After I upgraded my iMAC to Maverics, I could not see my NTFS drives in finder or on the desktop. I could see my NTFS drives in Disk Utility but they were grayed out and are not accessible. I could boot the iMac in Windows and have access to all of my NTFS drives.
I tried reinstalling the latest version, 2013.2, downloaded from your web page. I can see my NTFS drives but could not write to them. I then got the following message when the system started up, "invalid product key". When I opened Tuxera from the system preferences page I get the following message on the Activation page, "Current status: Invalid product key. Limited performance mode." I have tried reloading Texura from the Toshiba drive, but the process doesn't complete the last step.
As a last step, I uninstalled Tuxera and can not reinstall it. I get the message "The Tuxera NTFS for Mac installer could not detect your Toshiba External HDD. Please attach it to your Mac and run the installer again. I'm running the installer from the Toshiba drive so the installer should detect it.
Please note, I have a new Macbook Pro that came with Mavericks and I loaded Tuxera from the same Toshiba drive. It has no problems writing to it. The upgrade to Mavericks caused the problem.

  • The remote control which comes with FX5600-VTDR256 is not functioning

    Hi,
I just bought FX5600-VTDR256 card and installed MSI Media Center Deluxe II. Everything works fine except the remote control. It isn't working at all.
By the way, I installed the Video Adapter driver from NVidia (ver 52.13). Has it anything to do with it?

I've already checked the batteries and the IR reciever is plugged in correctly before I send this message. For the batteries, I tried swapping from my mouse. For the IR receiver, I tried plugging in the Video Input and I get the picture on the screen.

No offense is intended at sighting the obvious but you'd be surprised
Video Drivers shouldn't affect it but I haven't the pruduct in my grubby hands to verify. I hate to recommend drvers off of the CD or from the MSI website but it's the only way to be sure. These are the only instances I would consider recommending this and I would do it myself to remove any doubt.

  • Doesn't the Imacs already come with OS X already installed?

Do i need to download the Install Dics that come with the Imac? What comes in the bundled software?

The bundled software that comes with an iMac varies depending on when it is sold. The current models come with Tiger (OS 10.4) & the applications always bundled with it (Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, & the Xcode Developer Tools) plus the iLife ’08 bundle (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, & GarageBand). Of these, only QuickTime, Xcode Developer Tools, & iTunes can be downloaded independently & for free.
All of this is pre-installed on the iMac & can be re-installed if need be from the system disks that come with it -- you do not need to nor can you download them, except as noted above. The disk set also includes a version of Apple Hardware Test (AHT) specific to the hardware/model, which can only be run by booting the machine directly into it -- in effect it is a special purpose OS, not an application, & can be obtained & used in no other way. The disk set also includes a limited version of the Tiger OS itself, which supports the applications on the set, including the Installer application & some utilities like Disk Utility. This enables you to boot from disk one of the set even if your hard drive or its installed OS is damaged or missing to do maintenance or installations.
For these reasons, you should treat the installer disk set as an essential part of the iMac & keep it in a safe place.
