20" ACD (Aluminum): Glare and harsh colours

Compared to my 12" Powerbook G4 screen, I notice that the brightness of the 20" ACD is much higher. Also, the colours on the ACD are harsher (perhaps more saturated is the term?) and not "cool" to look at in comparison with the 12" PB screen. The result of this is bad glare.
Also, I notice that the "Colour LCD" colour profile that is used with the PB screen cannot be used with the ACD. The result is that the same image looks different on both screens.
Does anyone have any remedies?
I tried changing my ACD gamma to 2.2 TV gamma to reduce glare but this doesn't really help.

Heavyfeet
The brightness of your ACD is much higher and the color Gamut greater than your 12 PB. You can reduce the brighness to about 75% to try and match it. The default profiles are designed for specific displays and you shouldnt use them on the wrong device. If you are working with color and making decisions on the monitor I would recomened creating custom profiles using a colorimeter that are relatively inexpensive. An added bonus is you can get different displays to match much more closely.
Take a look at my post here for some devices.

i have an Apple mighty mouse that works fine wen connected to the USB port on the display...
    why is it not working...

have you tried a different USB port on the ACD? Maybe the one you used was defective? I run a 7-port bus off one of the USB ports for all my hardware. OTOH, I do use bluetooth mouse and keyboard!

  • How cna I change the text and background colours in iTunes?

Can anyone tell me how I can change the text and background colours in iTunes? I am a visually impared user and my main requirement on a PC is to change the colour schemem to white text on a black background. Most software adopts the settings of your colour scheme but iTunes goes it's own and has everything on white backgrounds. I cannot read from white backgrounds (dazzle - that sort of thing). I have never used iTunes for this reason. I have always been a devotee of by far the best media player out there Musicmatch Jukebox, who allow you to edit skins in every detail. However, recently Musicmatch was taken over and users were forced to migrate to the ridiculously poor Yahoo Music Jukebox. A massive downgrade in so many ways.
I want to use iTunes but will not be able to if I cannot sort this issue out. I downloaded 7.5 before discovering that if you want to use Multi Plugin for skins you need to go back to iTunes 7.02. I've done that, but the skins available are completely pointless to my eyes. They don't change the colours of the main components, just the graphical bit at the top.
What I need to do is change the background of the main browser windows so that they are black and the text is white (you know the track lists and tree views, etc). This must be a very simple case of just changing the codes somewhere, but I can't find where. I read somewhere that you need to hack into something call ResourceDB inside a file called iTunes.jar. There is no such file on my PC. Could that be a Mac thing?
Please help someone if you can. I would like to become an iTunes user. There seems to be more music available than on Napster which I currently use.
    Thanks in advance
    Z

In my opinion, it seems that Apple has decided to sacrifice usability so that iTunes would look more like a Mac application. You are probably already aware that using Windows' built-in high-contrast settings do not work in iTunes.
I did some hacking at the resource file a while back, but I was unable to figure out how to change the color of the background. IIRC there was a resource whose description indicated it would change the background color, but when I changed the resource, nothing happened.
I was, however, able to figure out how to make the "large" font much larger (any size you want, I suppose). Will that help? See
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/ituneshacks/index.html
You should provide feedback to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I don't think it is too harsh to call it "shameful" that Apple has chosen this design path. Where I work, we are required to make ALL applications (or any computer interface, such as a website) section 508 compliant. Of course, I'm being a bit of a hypocrite, because I've made no effort to make my website compliant. If you have trouble reading it, please let me know.

  • My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please?  I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.
    <Edited by Host>

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

  • New aluminum Macbook and S-Video

    New aluminum Macbook and S-Video
It have come to the conclusion that the new MacBook's and MacBook Pro's can not output to S-video. I have tired the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI and then the Apple DVI to Video but no luck, the two do not connect as the Mini DisplayPort to DVI is missing 4 pin holes. I have tired Mini DisplayPort to VGA and then a VGA to s-video adapter but no luck, the MacBook did not even see a second display.
Is there any hope to achieve my goal? I need s-video out for work and will have to exchange the computer for a Black MacBook if the new computer can not output to s-video.
    Any thoughts?

*Mini Review - PC to Video EZ*
    _*It works!*_
    !http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/29803095101fb261f66ao.jpg!
I, and many others, have been looking for a way to output video (composite and s-video) from the NEW Macbooks and MacBook Pro's sporting the Mini DisplayPort since Apple as yet to release such adapter. I use my computer to output video (s-video) for digital slide shows and presentations. If our new aluminum MacBook could not meet this requirement back to the store it would go.
While searching the web for a adapter, converter or whatever could help get video out of the new MacBook I quickly learned ($10 later) that a simple VGA to s-video cable would not work.
    *NO GOOD!*
I soon came across the PC to Video EZ. It is sold at several online retailers but I finaly decided to buy it from NewEgg.com (links at bottom of post). NewEgg is retailer I knew I could trust and get fast shipping from. I ordered the converter box on Friday and it arrived today (Monday) with standard shipping!
Bottom line, the PC to Video EZ from GrandTec outputs video (both composite and s-video) at equal quality to Apple's own video adapters used on previous (pre-DisplayPort) computers. I, owning a MacBook Pro with DVI to video adapter, could not tell the difference.
The device itself is small. It is nothing you would complain about carrying around and it gets the job done.

The back of the unit has two VGA ports, one in and one out. You can use the VGA out port as a pass through so you can still have your computer connected to a VGA monitor while outputting to video. A feature I will never use but it is still nice to have, especially for desktops.
Also on the back is the video ("yellow" composite) and s-video out.

*Back with end of Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter*
On the right side of the unit you will find a place to plug in the power adapter. Good news, its powered by USB. Bad news, the thing needs to be powered at all... More bad news, the unit does not use a standard USB cable. You better not loose the one that comes in the box! At least there are no power bricks to lug around and a simple USB to wall power adapter (like the one used with iPod or the iPhone) should also power the device. My testing showed that power is required.

    *USB power cable*
The unit comes with every cable you would need which is a huge plus! Included in the box is a short VGA cable (3 feet, which is perfect), a s-video cable and a composite video cable.

*Included cables. All you need to buy is the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.*
Although not as neat as an Apple Mini DisplayPort to video adapter would be it does get the job done.

    * # 640x480@60/72/75/85Hz, 800x600@60/72/75/85Hz, 1024x768@60/75/85Hz and 1280x1024@60Hz. _On my SD TV I had luck with 1024x768@85Hz. Anything larger would not display._*
    Pros:
    * Power supplied from USB ~NO BULKY EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY!
    * No software required! (works with Mac or Windows or any OS!)
    * Composite and S-Video outputs
    * VGA IN and VGA OUT for simultaneous TV/monitor viewing
    Cons:
    * Requires power
    * Does not use a standard USB cable

  • How to see the foreground and background colour without those sliders?

I've always found the Color Panel really annoying. A lot of space is taken up by those sliders, and I hardly ever use them.
Is there some way to hide the sliders, or—better still—put the foreground & background colours on the control panel? Shouldn’t the colours be on the control panel by default, always there in the corner?
I wonder how most people view the foreground and background colour? Does Adobe seriously expect users to have the large Color Panel constantly displayed (along with its rarely-used sliders), or perhaps we’re all expected to have the Tools Panel constantly open even though it only contains basic tools that most people know the shortcuts for?
Or is there some other way to see the foreground and background colours?
Or do most users not need to know what the foreground and background colours are?

Too big, i guess you don't remember the color palettes from ps 1 and ps 2.
You might want to look at configurator to make a smaller panel that just shows the
    foreground/background color chips.

  • White lines and missing colour in extruded text

hello, i know this question has be asked many time but i havent found a solution as yet. I am usinf Cs5
I am finding these white lines in t he 3d part of the text and missing colour in the text itself. This occurs when viewing in illustator itself and when saved as pdf and jpg.
I have noticed a solution has been to flatten the image or rastarize it. This does not give me the quality i want, and to me defeats the purpose of doing something in illustror cancels out the ability to resize.
I need a solution ASAP as client needs their logo

  • Green and purple coloured highlights

I am getting green and puple colours all over my raw photos where highlights are present, like on  wet objects such as pebbles on a beach, I don't get this using lightroom so it isn't a camera problem. I use a number of cameras and it happens on all my files from any of my 7 cameras. I have resorted to using Lighroom because of this problem for the time being so any help would be very much apreicated.

Have you tried the Raw Fine Tuning Adjustments?
Try to adjust Hue Boost, Boost, or Moire.

Check the monitor settings in the System/Displays/Color preference pane.  You may have to change the color profile used or calibrate the monitor.
Also check the System/Accessibility preference pane to see if the Increase contrast checkbox is checked. If it is check it and see if there's any improvement.
