20" acrylic Display not working with 15" MBP

I have a 20" acrylic Cinema display (with the Apple ADC-DVI adapter) that works fine with a PC and with my 15" G4 PowerBook. When I try to use my 15" MacBook Pro (the 512meg VRAM one) the internal screen flashes but the Cinema display never shows anything on the screen. It is detected and properly identified and I can set the res, etc. in the Display prefs. I can move the mouse off the internal screen over to the Cinema display as well, I just can't see it. When I switch on Display mirroring the internal monitor seems to display the screen from the Cinema display because the background changes to the default apple one.
The MPB works fine with an external Samsung 20" LCD. So I don't think it's the DVI port...
I'd hate to have to get a new monitor just because I can't get this one to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks. Ray

  • FaceTime HD Camera (Display) not working with most applications

The Thunderbolt 27" LED Cinema displays built in camera is not working with most applications. The camera does not work with FaceTime, iChat, Skype and Google Talk. FaceTime says "There is no connected camera", even though there is. Weird thing is it DOES work at http://www.testmycam.com. I can't get it to work with any other flash based apps, just testmycam.com.
My MacBook Pro 17" (late 2011) built in camera works perfectly with everything.
    Things I've already tried:
    - Shutdown
    - Restart
    - disconnect/reconnect
    - removing power from display
lame, lame, lame. $1k monitor, flippin' webcam doesn't work.

I think I have found the problem. I decided to go page by page through the forums and found this argument when running a Java program through the console:
    -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
    So it would be like:
    java -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true SwingSet2
That works flawlessly, so it has to do with direct draw (So it's either DirectX or my video card drivers which are up to date).

  • Display not working with new operating system

I recently installed OS X version 10.8.2 and now my large apple display will not work with the MacAir.  Anyone know how to fix this?

  • My thunderbolt display is not working with my MBP retina 13''

    Hi,
I just received both a new macbook pro retina 13'' and a thunderbolt display. Everything was working properly yesterday but today, I have no clue why, the thunderbolt display is not working anymore.
         . the power supplier for my laptop given by the thunderbolt display is still working;
         . when I don't connect my laptop through the thunderbolt connection, I can use the usb sockets as power supplier , for my phone, for instance;
. as soon as I plug the thunderbolt cable, the usb socket is not feeding any more my phone, whereas the screen is not displaying anything.
. If I take a look in the system report, in the thunderbolt tab, there is "no device connected"...
I restarted plenty of time my laptop, took care to reinitialise the SMC as well as the PRAM, and nothing changed. I also disconnected the thunderbolt display, waited few minutes (and more), but nothing changed, again the black screen.
    Has somebody an idea?
    Thanks

which model air do you have?
try both a pram and smc reset
plug the monitor into a different electrical outlet and a different port on your Mac (if you have multiple tb ports)

  • Thunderbolt display not working with bootcamp and windows 7

I am running a late 2013 MBP Retina display with a Thuderbolt monitor. I am running windows 7 on a dual boot partition. I can not get my thunderbolt display to work while working in windows. The screen is currently black. I have attempted to follow the instructions in prior posts regarding this issue with no success. Is there a clear fix to get the monitor to work? Thank you

it has to be plugged into the machine before you power on the machine, it is not hot swapable like on OSX

  • External Display not working with MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011)

I just bought the current MacBook Pro 13" (i7 processor). My external display (Benq 20"W, 1600x1050) always says "No Signal Detected!". I've tried it with a DVI-Adapter (Griffin Video Display Converter) and with a VGA-Adapter (LMP Mini DisplayPort-VGA-Adapter). With lower resolution I once got a picture (but with weird lines). On my old MacBook (white, 2.16 Ghz) there was never a problem with this display (also OS X 10.6.6). Who can help?

Check this post if you want more info:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2774718
The gist is that DVI is currently very iffy through Thunderbolt. Mini display -> mini display OR mini display -> HDMI should work fine. It's most likely not your adapter itself but the fact that it's DVI.
If you can, get a mini display -> HDMI adapter and try that (assuming your external has HDMI).
I should hear back tomorrow or Monday from apple engineers with more specific info about this issue and I will update then.
BTW- DVI anywhere in the chain will make things fail. Mini Display -> DVI and a DVI/HDMI cable won't work with any reliability (I've tested it on three completely different monitors).

  • 3rd display not working with Yosemite.  Was fine with Mountain Lion.  Any suggestions?

I use my Imac as a digital aidio workstation with 3 displays.  Never updated to Yosemite due to issues with the DAW manufacturer software.  Now that the issues were resolved, I said what the **** and I updated to Yosemite.  Now my 3rd display does not work at all and I am not a happy camper.  Gives credence to if it ain't broke don't fix it.  Thanks all.

  • New Display Not Working With Mac Pro

I just ordered a new Mac Pro and 24-inch Cinema Display. About 15 minutes ago I plugged everything in and turned it on. Nothing. The screen is blank.
I made sure everything (power cord, Mini Display Port) was plugged in. Still nothing.
    What can I do?

Pardon me if you see this in other places - the problem drove me crazy, and I've read about it all over the place but could not find a definite fix.
I'm using the 24" LED Cinema Display with my new MBP 17 and had the same problem: plug in the monitor's mini DisplayPort and nothing. Sound worked, and my attached USB peripherals (keyboard and mouse) worked fine, but there was no display.
Reboot doesn't fix it. Zapping PRAM doesn't fix it. Reconnecting the DisplayPort doesn't work.
I figured out quickly I had to follow these instructions when using it in "clamshell" mode..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
But that isn't going to apply to your Pro. But somewhere - sorry, I would reference it but can no longer find where I got the suggestion - someone gave me the idea to try deleting preferences files until something changed.
Luckily, I got it on the first try..
Macintosh HD -> Library -> Preferences -> SystemConfiguration
..and move or delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file.
I plugged the monitor back in and it worked INSTANTLY, like a charm.
There must be a bug somewhere. I swear it worked better in Leopard and started in Snow Leopard, but there seem to be other people reporting the same or a very similar problem on Leopard as well.

  • FireWire ports on display not working with Snow Leopard Mac Pro

I just bought a new quad core Mac Pro with Snow Leopard and I have connected it to my three year- old Apple 23 inch cinema display and everything works fine....except for the Firewire 400 ports on the display. They no longer recognize my external iSight camera or external hard drives. And of course the devices will not connect to the computer's 800 ports. Anyone come across this, or have any solutions? I've tried connecting and reconnecting and have repaired permissions. Thanks.

This means that my Firewire 400 ports on the display are no longer supported by the computer?
They need a FireWire connection to the computer. With older computers, the FireWire cable from the display would plug in to a computer FW400 port to provide the connection. With FW800 only computers, you need the adapter.

  • 24" LED Cinema Display not working with Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core, model identifier MacPro5,1) purchased in late 2010 and a 24" LED Cinema Display. The Mac Pro has three video ports--a full-sized DVI and two mini DVI. When I plug the Cinema Display into either of the mini DVI ports, I cannot get a picture, although the iSight camera works fine. If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.
Is it not possible to use this monitor with a Mac Pro without an adapter, even though the Mac Pro does have mini DVI ports?

  • Two BenQ external displays not working with new 27" iMac

I have a 27" iMac (newest model) and have been using it with a BenQ BL2710 monitor.  It's connected with a mini display port to display port cable.  It's been working great; I found that I had to uncheck the 'Displays have separate spaces' box in Mission Control, so I have the menu bar on the iMac'd display only.
Now, I have a 2nd BenQ BL2710 that I'm trying to hook up the same way, using the iMac's 2nd thunderbolt port.  The display powers up and all 3 screens look perfect.  The problem is getting the arrangement correct.  I have the dock on one display, the menu bar on another, and the mouse will only work on one or two of the displays, depending on how I change the arrangement.
I want the dock and the menu bar to be on the iMac's display ply, which is in the center.  Is there a trick to getting this done, or do I need a third party dock or other piece of hardware to get it to work?

I just answered my own question; apparently with two external displays connected, the dock has to be positioned on the bottom.  I had it on the right of the main iMac display.  Moving it to the bottom, and rearranging the position of the monitors in display preferences did the trick.
If anyone knows of a way to accomplish this without moving the dock to the bottom of the screen, I'd be interested.  I'd prefer it on the right side, if possible.

  • External display not working with i-mac.

Using a newer i-mac 2013. My acer monitor stopped working entirely when i installed the newest OS 10.9. Already tried the ram resets and display resets. Any help?

The display was not added as it simply won't detect if the monitor is there, "no signal detected."
Yes the display worked fine prior to upgrading to Mavericks. I just tried the shut-down and then restarted, but still no luck... I'd hate to have to take it back to the apple store and have them look at it...

  • Thunderbolt Display not working with Yosemite

    Hi all,
After I have updated my mid 2012 Retina Macbook Pro from Mavericks to Yosemite my Thunderbolt Display has stopped working. It makes no difference if I connect the display before startup, or while the macbook is already powered on. It just doesn't power up. The display doesn't show up in System Report (?) while it was actually working on the Yosemite beta 2. I have reset the NVRAM / PRAM and SMC all to no avail. When I connect the thunderbolt cable and power plug the MacBook also doesn't charge.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance.

By power leak issue I mean something to do with what I just found here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5276098?tstart=0
I was wondering why my Macbook was a bit tingly to touch. I've since plugged it in with the longer 3 pin lead. No fix to my display issue.

  • T-Bolt Display not working with iMac Retina

When I replaced my Late 2012 iMac with the new iMac Retina, the Thunderbolt Display I use for a second monitor would not come on and is not visible in the iMac's "Displays" preferences.  Has anyone had this problem?  I tried rebooting the iMac, but no luck.
According to Apple, this iMac IS capable of outputting to two Thunderbolt displays.  I have the upgraded video card in the iMac.

Ugh.  I'm an idiot.  I never imagined the Apple Thunderbolt/mini-DP cable would go bad between unplugging the old mac and plugging in the new one.  I tried a different cable and the display came on.  Problem solved!

  • IMac external display not working with mountain lion

I have an iMac 3.4 Intel Core i7, have used an external monitor for a program for ever.  Upgraded to Mountian Lion and no more external monitor.

Update/Fixed - I talked with Apple support via phone since I had 90 days of complimentary support.  After describing my troubleshooting the rep recommended reinstalling 10.9.  I did that this morning and the remote monitor is back in service.  So it appears something broke in 10.9 that is fixed by the re-install.  It would be nice to know if it's a simple preference that could be trashed.  But it looks like hardware is not the issue.
