20" Display starting to "burn in"

After having my Apple 20" display for just over a year (literally 12 months 5 days) the screen is starting to show evidence of burn in, I have had no problems with the display at all during the year, but today after leaving a browser open for about 10 minutes I noticed that the background kept the shadowing of what was on the screen still there. At first I thought it was a crash so I rebooted, it was still there, each app etc I open now does the same thing.
I'm guessing the display is damaged somehow...and what a surprise that its just after the 1 year warrenty ended, just like with my ipod this past week too. Coincidence yeah probably, but its topping off a bad week!

Hi-
The article to which you are referring follows:
http://www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram/
I would take the display in for warranty repair. It is repairable/replaceable (up to Apple).
Don't let the 1 year lapse.
Also, since you are still under the 1 year limit, you can still purchase Applecare for the display:

2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.

  • Blank disc gets spat out at start of Burn step

iDVD 6 on MBP 2.2 Santa Rosa with UJ-857E drive that supports +/- R DL burning (according to System Profiler). I have some Memorex DVD+R DL blanks. I start the burn step in iDVD, insert the disc, it re-encodes the menus (performance-mode video encoding is already done), then as soon as it hits the step where it starts writing to DVD, the disc ejects. iDVD marks the step as done, then becomes unresponsive, and eventually I have to force quit it.
    Help?

Okay, I'm getting a step farther along, but still not there yet. iDVD successfully created the image, Disk Utility loads it and prepares to burn...
Then I get the message "Device failed to calibrate laser power level for is media", which apparently indicates that the media is low quality and/or the laser lens is dusty.
I'll try blasting a compressed air can into the drive slot, and hopefully my local Apple store has a different brand of DL DVD, because this was the only kind being sold at the CompUSA.

  • HT1473 My iTunes just started not burning my playlists to a CD saying it needs to be reinstalled.  What is wrong?

My iTunes just started not burning my playlists to a CD saying iTunes needs to be reinstalled.  I do not  know how to reinstall with out that pop-up request.  I checked the latest version under help and I have the latest version.  I do not know how it could have created an error that will not allow me to burn my playlists to CDs.

    many thanks.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • 0xE800000A Error / iPhone Display starts to flicker

    Hey!
Since four days I have problems with my iPhone 4. So I started to restore my iPhone with iTunes four days ago. I put it on DFU and plugged it on my laptop.
iTunes downloaded the newest iOS (7.0.4) and started to restore my iPhone. But then suddenly there came an error message:
"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800000A)"
I've never read an error like this in iTunes. So I started to worry about it. I unlocked my iPhone and then I saw that my display flickers! It was really strange
because I've never seen this before on my iPhone. It was the first time. And my iPhone really didn't run very well. I was not amused about that.
So I started to restore my iPhone again after that. Now it worked but the display still flickers. After one day the problem was solved with my display but the iOS didn't run well. Today a few minutes ago I started to restore it the 3rd time. There was the same error (0xE800000A) and now the display started to flicker again.
It's really strange! Where does the problem with the display come from? What should I do?

I had the same problems, which were posted to:

    It appears you found those.
Applying the 'second' 10.4.7(intel) update did not solve the problem for me - I'm still running 10.4.6.

  • All but 1 theme per group disappeared after Premiere Elements 4.0 crashed on start of burn to DVD

I have a project that is approximately 1 hour in length.  This is the first project I am attempting to burn.  I assigned a theme to the project and then proceeded to burn a DVD.  Before the burn could actually start, PE crashed with a "blue screen" dump.  I rebooted in Windows safe mode, then rebooted back into normal Windows mode.  When I started PE and opened the project, nearly all of the themes were missing!  It appears that only one theme per group remained.
What would have removed or hid the themes?  I would have also expected all or none of the themes, rather than leaving just one per group.  I was using a template in the "General" group, but the one that remained after the crash is not the one I had assigned to my project.
Does a reinstall restore the templates?   If so, can I reinstall PE 4.0 from my CD without erasing, distroying, or losing the current projects I have created?
Thanks in advance for your comments!

    Hunt,
Before diving into the details of the items in the article, I did a few of the basic things:
    stopped my anti-virus product (doh!)
stopped the temperature monitor software (doh!)
    did a quick disk cleanup
turned off all trivial stuff in msconfig
I rebooted the system and started Premiere Elements.  I had not attempted to reload the templates at that point, so I proceeded to "Burn to DVD".  I selected the minimal quality and started the burn.  That worked!   Next I exited PE and restarted it and then was able to successfully "Burn to DVD"  using the max setting for quality. As expected, it took a while to finish, but it also completed successfully!  The resulting DVD looks and sounds great, so the rendering and burn phases seem to be working fine on my hardware.
I noticed on the CD that there is an option to load the themes, so I am going to try loading that today.  I'll post more comments after I get the themes reloaded in case there are other steps involved in restoring those within the program.

  • PE3: Hangs when starting to burn DVD

    Hi
When burning DVD, at the final stage, after encoding successfully, consistently fails to start to burn. Unable to stop by " Cancel" Have to "end task". When hanging, CPU is spending 50% running PE3.Opening and closing DVD drawer to possibly raise an interrupt didn't help.
I have searched extensively the various help areas and I think I have done all I can. See below. This is a third of a video which is a mixture of slides and short video clips. The other two work fine. They are all about the same length ( 20 mins). The video is fully rendered.
    Environment
    XP
    Dual core 3G cpu
    3G Ram
Cleaned up and just defragged C drive, 50% of 160G free, and 50% of 0.5Tb external hard drive.
    All software up to date
No other activity at all on system
    Tried straight after system restart
I am aware I could use the AVI route bur when I did this I didn't get the initial menu screen.

    Steve
    Steve
    Thanks again.
I checked and when I made it before, it was by "Export movie" route to folder as AVI and then reimporting that to Timeline in a new project, which I found somewhere in Help. That route missed off the Menu. But it did work otherwise. If all else fails I will have to stick at that .
BUT this morning I tried the Burn to Folder option in Burn DVD window(not quite same dialogue as you said) This also hung after about half the time, having done the encoding Ok. Again no error, and couldn't "Cancel" had to end task. And again 50% CPU to Adobe.Looked identical to when trying to do direct to DVD.
Also when it hung trying to burn directly, the DVD was " being used by PE" as I checked by trying to do things to it from Control panel( format)

  • My display starts "buzzing" when I increase brightness.

My display starts "buzzing" when I increase brightness, but gets lower decreasing lights. It seems to be originated in the left down corner on the back side.
It sounds like an electrical short circuit. Shall be needed assistance?

Actually, Apple says to use the Disk Utility program on the installed system to "Repair Permissions" as the program uses a database that is updated to the proper settings for the version of 10.6 that you are using.
The original DVD may have 10.6.0 on it but the computer may be running 10.6.2
The original DVD doesn't have any changes in the permissions that Apple has included with updates.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452
There is also an Apple document that says that just about every warning you see in the window while doing the repairs should be ignored. I just uncheck the details box and wait for the "Permissions Repair Complete" statement to appear.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
I don't know if a permissions issue is causing the video settings issue, but it can't hurt to run the program.
Zapping The Pram is also a powerful reset mechanism you can try.

  • Encore CS5 freezes when starting to Burn project

    Hi,
My CS5 Encore works fine until I "Build" or "Burn" a project. It prepares the files successfully for burning but as soon as it physically starts to burn to disc, it only goes up to 7.82MB exactly everytime and then it never finishes the burning. The DVD continues to spin but nothing happens and then I have to restart my PC (Windows 7). I've tried to run Encore as Administrator but it doesn't work.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Some times my new iMacs display start flickring when I starts playing a game. I am very annoyed. I have bought it only 1 month ago. What can I do?

A flickering display sounds to me like a hardware problem.  Or does this only happen with a specific game? Of course your machine is still under warrantee so you could take advantge of it if you have a local apple store.

  • I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010 and Mac Pro Mid 2012, both running OS 10.8.5. When working in Illustrator the Display starts to make my Document trasparent and I can see the desktop through my document. I have to toggle my display res back and forth to fix it?

I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010 and 2012 both running OS 10.8.5. Both using ATI Radeon HD 5770 1052 MB vid cards.
Using the standard Display that came with the Macs, everytime I'm working in Ilustrator CS5 or 6, the Document I am working on gets transparent, and I when I try to move a pallete or the Document itself, the pallet or doc leaves trails from where it was to where I moved it. The only way I can resolve it is to open the Display prefs, choose a lower res, then switch it back to the "Best for Display" option. This started happening on both machines after the 10.8.5 update. I have since gone through all the Pram and Board resets, even had Apple replace the Vid Card and nothing helps. Anybody have this issue. It only happens in Illustrator.

  • PowerMac G5 & Display starts but after the grey Apple logo screen dies

When I turn on my PowerMac G5 it turns on OK along with the LCD display. But once the Apple logo and the spinning gear shows up (by the way the gear gets all pixelated and turns blue) the LCD display suddenly goes black as if it goes to sleep. The PowerMac is still running though but it's not responsive. I even tried opening the DVD drive with the keyboard and nothing happens. I took someone's advice of rebooting in Safe Mode and everything works OK for now. When I try rebooting in normal mode the problem persists.
What could be the problem? Is this a hardware issue? I even tried with another display and same thing happens.
Sad thing is my 3 yr. Apple Care expired a few months ago, never ever used it.

Second time I've heard of display problems and 10.5.5., but it might be coincidental. For the other poster starting up in safe mode also helped but didn't cure his problem. Maybe taking out and reinstalling the video card would bring your mac back to its senses again.
    http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/073-0808.pdf
I was looking for some display preference to be trashed but there were so darn many of them I couldn't figure out what the right one might be. In case I missed it, have you tried resetting your PRAM?

Long story short I solved the problem, and it was totally a model issue. It is the HP w2207, which apparently has a problem with iMac 24 inch, the nvidia graphics card, mini DVi to DVI and 10.4 in particular. You see these two devices, just don't get along very well. The imac tries to auto set the monitor at one resolutions and the monitor tries to auto set itself at another, and they will continue to do this indefinitely. However both when I switched to a VGA cable, which I believe prevents the monitor from auto setting itself, and when I upgraded to 10.5 solved the problem.
Personally I didn't mind the upgrade, as I was planning to do it anyway, and is definitely the better solution as there is noticeable difference in the color between the two cables.
Anyway thanks for the help everyone.

on drive F: AOPEN CRW5232/AAO PRO on CDR media at speed 4X.

an upgrade to iTunes 7.2.0.35 might be worth a try. the itunes versions 7.1.x and 7.2.x have a newer version of the CD Driver DLL (2.0.6.2) than the 7.0.2.16 that you've got.
since it's a custom-built PC, we check the sites of the manufacturers of the individual components to see if there are any updates to those components. there does seem to be a newer version of the firmware (R1.04) available for your AOPEN CRW5232/AAO PRO at AOPEN. i've been assuming (based on your alias) that you're located in Australia, so i was searching in the Asia/Pacific parts of their website for firmware upgrades. if you're not in Australia, it might be worth checking through the correct region, just in case AOPEN has regional differences in their firmware offerings.
in the three fields on this page, select "CDRW drives", "CRW5232/AAO PRO", and "Firmware" to see the firmware offerings for the drive:
    AOPEN Asia
with other componentry, check in at ABIT to see if there are any chipset driver or BIOS upgrades available for the motherboard:
    http://www2.abit.com.tw/
... and it would be good to see if there are any updates available for your video card at ATI. for additional information on checking on that, see:
