No, since it's not a complete system, it's not going to start.
You mentioned I had to erase the hd first but I don't know how to do that.
If you replaced your HD because of a problem with it, your best bet might be to try the full restore again, but select an earlier backup.
But if you want to erase your internal HD and install OSX, see the yellow box in #1 of Using Disk Utility.
Then see the REINSTALLING OSX section in the box for the version of OSX you're running in Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.
Then you'll have two choices:
When your Mac restarts after installing OSX, you'll have the chance to transfer your data from the most recent backup. See either Using Setup Assistant on Lion or Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard for detailed instructions.
Or, skip Setup Assistant and create a user account. When your Mac restarts again, use that account to reapair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting. I suspect that's your best option, since it sounds like the backups are damaged.
If they can be repaired, you should be able to do the full restore. Or, you can use Migration Assistant, but that will result in an extra user account and the transferred accounts may lose permission to the backups. See Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation and some workarounds.
If they can't be repaired, most likely you can still restore selected items, via the "Star Wars" display, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15.

Hello
I recently made a Bootcamp partition with Windows 7 (which incidentally went absolutely fine). In that partition I wanted to split it for some certain files, but on doing so I appear to have completely tanked my hard drive - I've pretty much wiped the entire thing. I read afterwards that creating new partitions within Windows is a big no no Bootcamp wise, and this wasn't something I knew about before. Lesson learnt!
Either way, I had a backup and though it would be simple enough to restore from that backup, but about 2% in it it pops up "an error has occurred while restoring from backup, please restart and try again". After a few tries, this didn't work, so now I'm worried that my backup is corrupt.
I'm not sure why the backup would be corrupt as this was made with no problems as normal.
I've already tried the standard restore with no success (obviously), and I've also tried re-installing the OS up to the first boot, then trying to restore (thinking that the error was a result of a missing Recovery HD, which the re-install would create) and this was with no success also.
My final idea was to just erase the drive and re-install the OSX, and then when it prompts me, restore the files from the Time Capsule.
Am I onto the right idea, or is there another way around this? I'm just very worried that my backup has become corrupted for some reason and I've lost everything on there.
Specs are:
MacBook Pro Mid 2012 OS X 10.8.5;
Bootcamp 5 (Windows 7);I'd agree. As long as you've gone this far, I'd probably start from scratch with your MBP, back up any critical files on it, wipe the whole thing, and do a nice clean reinstall.
I'd try to repair the backup drive with disk utilty and then see if you can restore the minimum of essential documents from it to the MBP. If Disk Utility can't fix it there is a small chance that a third party utility like diskwarrior or techtool could repair it. DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
If you can get your essential documents off the backup drive, then I'd wipe it and put a new time machine backup on it. If that doesn't work, then I'd replace the drive. -
File System error while restoring a backup from analysis server to another
Hi
I have restored an analysis database backup to from server 1 (sql server 2008) to server 2(sql 2008) and its working fine
and now am trying to restore another database from analysis server server 3 (sql 2005) to server 2 (sql 2008 )but its giving error that
File System error occured while opening the file G:\ProgramFiles\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Backup\Workordermodule.0.db\WomDW1.7.00 ..etcHi Maverick,
According to your description, you are experiencing the error when restoring the SSAS 2005 database on SSAS 2008 server, right?
In your scenario, how do you backup your SSAS 2005 database? Please ensure that you backup and restore steps are correct. Here is a blog which describe how to migrate a cube in SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 to SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 step by
step, please refer to the link below.

Besides, you can import SQL 2005 AS database in SQL 2008 BIDS Project. Then fix AMO warnings and deploy that database on SQL 2008 Server.

Error while restoring the backup
HI,
We have taken the offline backup through BRtools but we have used rman to take the backup in init.SID.sap. We have succeeded in taking the backup of the database and it has saved in .S format. Now when we are restoring with Brrestore it is giving the below error. Can any one suggest how to restore the backup.

Will texts received while restoring from backup still come through?
I just updated my phone, and then proceeded to restore from my backup which took a good 20 minutes. If someone texted me during that period, will I still recieve it? The backup restored everything to right before my update, could that mean any text I recieved during the process dissapeared?
Hi, you need to delete those corrupt backups and make another, if your data is still safely on the phone. The next time you will really need a backup to restore from, those corrupt ones will be impossible to work with, your only option being data extraction if possible or start from scratch. If you're just looking for a way to delete the old spotlight messages, try this:
- On the Homescreen, go to "Settings" > "General" > "Spotlight Search"
- Tap each item in the "Spotlight Search" screen to uncheck it (remove the checkmarks), including contacts, apps, music and event and this will remove them, leaving only the search box there for future searches. Then press Home and return to your homescreen. -
Error -69 restoring from backup cd
I am attempting to restore about 25 purchased song to my laptop in which i plan to use w/ my ipod. I stick the backup disk in and itunes asks if i wish to restore and then it will always stop at song 10 and ask for the next cd followed my the error " Attempting to copy the disk "FAAMAAB2" failed An unknown erro occured (-69). Then is shows that only 9 song are in my library.I suspect the cd is good becuase I played song 10 from the cd via itunes.
Any assistance appreciatedI am having the same problem. Here are some more details from my situation, which will hopefully help:
I Used the "Backup to Disc" feature from iTunes 8. That created 4 DVDs. I formatted the same computer that the backup was done on, and then installed iTunes 8.1. When I put the DVDs in, nothing happens. I can't see anything on the discs in the finder.
This version of iTunes imports other DVDs and CDs fine as iTunes should.
But when I got to a different computer, the restore starts as it should from iTunes 8.1. Still can't see any images on the disc. (I am not looking to restore the that computer and re-backup -- too many complications with that scenario.) -
"An error occurred while restoring from the backup.Files can't be restored"
My 4 month old MacBook Pro 15" running 10.6.2 lobotomized itself and I had to have a new HD put in it. I backed up the old one w/ TM on an external HD. I've tried (by the book, and with direct verbal guidance from the Help People at Apple) to restore the system and files but every time it gets to 10.2% in the restoration process and then I get this message: "An error occurred while restoring from the backup. Please restart." and under the frozen progress bar is the chilling line: "Files can't be restored." I've tried restoring from several dates on the TM backup list but it always stops at 10.2% completion. Help!
Hi.
Start by booting from your SL install disc, and selecting Utilities from the menubar, but before going on to +Restore System from Backups,+ instead select +Disk Utility.+
Make +*absolutely certain+* that your internal HD has the GUID *Partition Map Scheme* and the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ Format (unless you're sure it should be +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled).+
Then do a +*Repair Disk+* (not permissions) on your Time Machine drive.
If that succeeds, quit Disk Utility, then continue with the full restore (per #14 in the FAQ).
But if that finds errors it can't fix, it's possible that +Disk Warrior+ can fix them. It's about $100, and is probably a good long-term investment, but there's no guarantee.
If all else fails, go back to Disk Utility and erase your internal HD, then install OSX. When your Mac restarts, use +Setup Assistant+ to transfer your users, apps, settings, and data from your backups (see #19 in the FAQ).
Then download and instal the "combo" update to get back to 10.6.2. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 (or http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 for 10.6.3).
Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility afterwards. -
Error occurred while restoring from the TimeMachine backup
I have an brand new HD that I want to restore from TimeMachine.
Erased and partitioned this brand new drive. Created 2 partitions and formatted as “OS Extended Journaled/ GUID.”
Did a “Command R recovery boot” and went through the steps to backup from TM to my new HD.
15 seconds into the restoration process Msg. reads:
“Error occurred while restoring from the backup.
Restart your computer and then try restoring again.”
Trouble shooting:
Luckily my original files and initial boot drive that TM was backing up from remains fine and I performed some more TM back ups as well as a TM backup onto another drive as well.
I even tried restoring to another empty drive with older backups and backups off of another HD and got the same error message.
All my BU’s and BU attempts have been within 10.7.3 on the same MP.
Thank you in advance for any help!!These are the four hard drives I am using for troubleshooting:
1. Internal new 1TB drive
2. External erased and reformatted 500GB firewire drive
3. Internal original 500GB drive designated for TimeMachine with
~200Gigs of successful backup (Including entire bootdrive)
4. External erased and reformatted 300GB drive that I told
TimeMachine to back up to for testing purposes.
I have only erased and reformatted the first 2 empty drives to use as a future boot drive once I can finally restore from my TimeMachine files to one of them successfully.
My troubles all started when I couldn’t get my cpu to boot from my initial boot drive. That’s what has put me on this track. I have since repaired that boot drive with DiskWarrior to perfect order.
Through a lot of my trouble shooting, I have left that initial boot drive in but have since taken it out. I don’t have lion installed on any other drive. Again, my 2 test drives are empty.
I don’t know how long this old boot drive will remain in perfect order and am glad I have found that I cant use TimeMachine on this side of needing it desperately.
Pondini- Thank you again for hangin' in there with me. I think I understand your last recommendation:
Do I load a new copy of Lion from this location?:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-lion/id444303913?mt=12&ls=1
The suggestion of “coping the installer” is to have a hard copy like I used to in SnowLeopard etc. for a faster future install? -

Edited by: user11981514 on Aug 6, 2010 9:46 AMHi,
Since the error ORA-19809 indicates the lack of space in flash recovery area during the media recovery, I suggested increasing the value of the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.
Yes, during the media recovery the RMAN will restore the archived log to the default destination (only if the required archived logs are not already on the disks). You can confirm the restore location of the archived log in RMAN restore log/destination specified by parameters log_archive_dest_1/db_recovery_file_dest.

We are getting the above error when creating the standby on different host to primary. Please can I know how to resolove this error. Please copy the backup pieces and archivelogs from the target database to the standby database..Do remember that the location on the standby database node must be same as of the target database node..
For example : if the bkp pieces of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/bkp' then the same locaiton must be created on standby
if the archivelogs of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/arch' then the same location must be created on standby
Hope its clear. -
While updating my iphone 4s to ios6, I had to restore it. Now every time I connect to itunes, I get the "Set Up Your iPhone" window with the set up as new iphone and restore from backup options. After the restore, I got everything except my apps and music back. Do I need to set the phone up as new again?

Error code: 16 when restoring from backup file
I've just restored my macbook pro and tried to restore from backup Photoshop file, now I get the code Error: 16. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank you!
RoferrOpen the Terminal.app
Copy and paste: sudo chmod -R 777 /Library/Application\ Support/Adobe
Press Enter and supply your password if asked.
If that does not work, do a reinstall from the discs or installer.
Migrating Adobe programs from another Mac or restoring from Time Machine breaks the licensing.
