20 gig and photos

I have an old 20 gig ipod with 4 buttons over the wheel. I guess the Mac OS did an ipod update and now in my window (non color version) I have a menu item that says photo import......can I view photos in B&W at least, if at all.
what does this mean, thanks.

Sam,
Yep, use iphoto. I haven't imported photos in probably a week or but I did open the program the past couple of days to look at photos. Nothing else.

Set up as New now, or set up from iCloud back up if you have this. Then you can Restore from Back Up on iTunes at a later time.

  • I have an Iphone 4s 16 gig and i have a lot of photos if i bought more icloud space would i be able to store more pictures

I have an Iphone 4s 16 gig and i have a lot of photos if i bought more icloud space would i be able to store more pictures

No, icloud can't be used as a storage location.  You should always sync photos to a computer (via itunes or photo stream - but that wouldn't help you now, since only new photos are synced via photo stream to other devices and computers).
Note:  an icloud backup does include photos in the camera roll, but if you later erase photos on the iphone to save space, those photos will no longer be available in the backup (assuming you continue backing up).
The bottom line is to always sync photos to a computer for archiving.  It's the safest way.  Many users have been burned using icloud backups, discovering that when restoring, they lost all their pictures.

  • How do I find 100 gigs of "photos"?

When I go to "About this Mac", and then to "Storage" I find that I have nearly 200 gigs of photos on my hard drive. However, all the photos I need/want are under "Pictures", in a few folders. When I "Get Info" about those folders, I find I have about 100 gigs there.
How can I find out where the other 100 gigs are...? I need to clear up space on my harddrive, and am seeking the most efficient way of finding what can be trashed, or stored somewhere else.
    Thanks!

Try one of the disk inverntory utilities to see what is using your disk space:
    OmniDiskSweeper
    GrandPerspective
    Disk Inventory

  • TS4036 My camera roll will not restore from iCloud after updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 6. It shows I have 1.7 gigs of photos stored on camera roll but none are appearing on my phone. Everything else restored from iCloud.

My camera roll will not restore from iCloud after updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 6. It shows I have 1.7 gigs of photos stored on camera roll but none are appearing on my phone. Everything else restored from iCloud. When I go to iCloud.com my photostream is not there.

A response I put together from another post. Also going into iTunes and choosing to sync phone to iCloud then back "this computer" sometimes works.
First thing.. Stop where you are. Don't try to sync, update, hard reset, iCloud... Just stop.
Check on your phone under 'SETTINGS' 'GENERAL' USAGE'. It should show some value for PHOTOSTREAM. Also, connect to iTunes and you will notice at the bottom of your phones summary page that there is a large amount of 'OTHER' data.
I used third party software called iExplorer (formerly iPhone explorer). In this program you select 'MEDIA FOLDER', then 'DCIM'. In the various apple folders (IE: 101APPLE) you should be able to preview your photos and copy them to your desktop.
From there sync them back to your device through iTunes or whatever method you use.
There is a simpler solution I'm sure, which may involve using iExplorer to delete some .plist files then restart the phone and let it rebuild. I'm going to try it myself AFTER I've finished copying all the photos to my MAC
    Hope this helps.

  • 40 Gig iPod Photo will only play for five seconds

My 40 Gig iPod Photo will only play the first five seconds of the songs I have on it. I have not changed anyting and it worked just fine last week. Any ideas? I have done a hardware re-set. I have no clue what is going on.
    Any help would be great!

    Hey!
    Have you tried a reset?
Hold down the home button and off button together for about 6-8 seconds(until the apple shows ignoring the slide to turn off at this point).Soon as the Apple appears let go and allow it to reset back to the Home screen(can take a couple of minutes).
Try it again. This isn't a Restore,so you wont lose any of your media.
    Cheers,

  • How do I archive 60 gig of photos to DVD for offsite backup?

I have about 60 gigs of photo I'd like to back up for offsite storage. What's the best way to do it?  I'm thinking DVDs, but wonder about comoression options.

Best way? A Hard Disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's faster, way more convenient and much easir to keep updted. More reliable too.
FWIW: My Library lives on my iMac. It’s Backed up to  two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. There are many options: Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug etc. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you may need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a trial restore.
Backing up to DVD presents no compression options.

  • I have deleted all photos off my ipad but it is still showing 5 gig of photos in itunes after syncing

I have deleted all the photos in my ipad and it is still showing 5 gig of photos in itunes even after syncing.

I don't see an issue, but if you mean why didn't you get most of your memory back you need to see what else is using storage. Go to Settings/General/Usage. Wait a bit for it to calculate storage allocation, then when it finishes you can see how much storage each app uses.

  • 60 gig iPod Photo won't sync

I have a 60 gig iPod Photo that has stopped being recognized by the computer. I tried a new USB cable. Sometimes it will charge when connected to the computer, sometimes not. It will charge when plugged in to 12V source. I have tried it on more than one Mac, but no dice. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. And yes, we have tried the reset several times!

Since you tried it on multiple Macs with a different cable, you've mostly eliminated the +bad docking cable+, +bad USB port+, and +something wrong with the Mac's system+ possibilities.
Question: When you have it connected to the power adapter, does it operate properly as an iPod? So does it display its screen menu and play songs?
If it does, then the hard drive is probably OK and not the problem. The problem may be that the dock connector on the iPod side has become worn or otherwise damaged. There are many pins on the connector, so it is possible for it to charge yet not connect for data.
If it does not work as an iPod (play music), for iPods with a hard drive, the hard drive is the most common failure point. So it is possible that the hard drive in your iPod has become faulty. Other possibilities are problem on the logic board and problem in the connection between the logic board and hard drive.
If the iPod does not get recognized by Disk Utility, the only other idea I can think of is to open it up. You can try disconnecting the battery and see if it connects to the Mac with no battery. You can try disconnecting the hard drive, inspecting the two connection points between the hard drive and logic board, and reconnecting.
    Here is a helpful guide.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-4th-Generation/93
When opening the 4G iPod, it is easiest to start from the seam at the top end, because there are no clips there. Be careful at the top left corner (looking at the iPod from the front) because there is a delicate ribbon cable there connecting the two halves of the case. You do not want to yank it open at that corner. If possible, leave that connection alone; it can easily get damaged when trying to disconnecting the ribbon cable. You should be able to lay the iPod open, like a book, from the right side.
Be sure to use plastic tools to open the iPod. Metal tools will damage the case.

  • I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help?

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

  • Moving LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?

I moved LR5 catalog (Irdata & Ircat) to a new hard drive and photos. Lost all meta data - How do I move meta data along with catalog?
The meta data for each image is missing.
I have over 2,000 images. I don't want to go back through each image and add meta data.
Is there some way to move everything?

No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention.

  • The difference between Camera Roll and Photo Library

I am a bit confused.  I have, on my iPhone, pictures in 3 places: Camera Roll, Photo Library, and Photo Stream.  I am not sure why iPhone make these distinctions but I want them all to end up in one place: my iMac central photo library.
I  only have 3 devices, an iPhone an iPad and a desktop iMac.  I manually sync my photos to my computer from my iPhone, and do not really worry that all photos get to all devices immediately.  My question is this: How do I make sure ALL the photos from my iPhohe end up in my 'main' photo library on my iMac? Without causing duplicates.   It seems like some of the iPhone photo storage locations sync and some do not; occasionally I get a ton of duplicates.  It is confusing and I was hoping someone could help me streamline it. I know the iCloud is trying to make things easier, but sometimes it does not seem that way
    Thanks!

  • How do i use my webcam and photo on my dktp4/500

is there a cd or owners manul for my dktp hp 4/500, and if so where my i get it. i need to know how to use my webcam, and photos to put them on my comp.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. You can also access and play the songs on the iPod through the computer in manual mode so you don't need to have the songs physically on both machines (Note: iPod shuffles are only designed to be used with a single library or computer):
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Can't access photos in camera roll - camera and  photo app crashes

Have iphone 4 with iOS 5.0. Took pictures but now I can't access any photo in the Camera Roll. When I now try to take a picture, Camera app crashes. If I try to access the Camera Roll via Photo App, it too crashes. Can't see the photos from iTunes either. Shows it as unknown data. Is there anyway to rebuild the photo library or remove a corrupted photo since I think that is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to Steve Kehlet who posted the solution that helped me and saved my day, https://discussions.apple.com/message/16405821#16405821

You will need to download PhoneView, but the free 7 day demo does the job - and my camera and photo app are up and running again!
