20" on an HP Pavillion dv2500 series

I've been using an old CRT monitor for the past two months as a secondary monitor for my notebook, and I just can't take it any more. I recently fell in love with Apple's 20" display (will probably get one used on eBay), so I'm considering purchasing one. It has a (crappy-ish) Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Video chip, and the only port it has for external displays is a VGA port. Even if I buy a VGA-to-DVI adaptor, does anyone know if my notebook will support the Apple Display?

I'm afraid the answer is no, not with an adapter at least. The Apple Cinema Displays out put a digital signal only meaning that you could not use the adapter to convert digital to analog. The way those work is if the monitor also outputted an analog signal then the minus-sign looking large connector inside the adapter carries that through to your VGA side.
You could spend a couple of hundred dollars to buy a box that would input the digital signal and then output an analog one, but I don't think it's worth it just to do that.

I have an HP  Pavillion G7 series laptop, On trying to install latest version of Skype, Skype downloads but won't install. Error message "internal error has occured"  code 1603.  My local comp engineer investigated and determined that the Sonix integral camera was not compatible with the latest Skype version. To get Skype to install, the integral camera was disabled which allowed Skype to install but i have to use an external camera. Not always convenient. Does anyone know if a fix for this problem is being addressed ??
    Many thanks,

I would suggest going back into the recovery manager and doing a system restore (not recovery) back to a previous point where you know it worked.  The other option would be to do a recovery but you will lose all data that is not backed up.

  • Pavillion G series & Compaq CQ61

Hi, really hope someone can help me this!
I have a HP Pavillion G series laptop - I have just broken the screen (badly!).
My dad has a HP Compaq Presario CQ61 which he no longer uses due to it getting a virus which was unfixable.
Is it possible to transfer the hard drive from the Pavillion to the Presario?
If it's not possible to physically transfer the drive is there any easy way to copy the data from the Pavillion to the Presario (Obviously the Presario would have to be wiped first as it still contains the virus).
Also, if the data can be transfered would everything (including operating system etc.) be moved to the CQ61?
I'm not overly technical (which is prob obvious!)
Any help would really be appreciated

    Hi philm2014,
It would be easier to provide more specific answers to your questions if we knew which specific model PC's you were talking about.  If you don't know the specfic model PC's that you have, check out Finding Your HP Product Model Number to see how to find out what the models actually are.
"Is it possible to transfer the hard drive from the Pavillion to the Presario?"
Well, like many questions in life, the answer is maybe.  It is likely that you would be able to physically install the Hard Drive (HD) from the Pavilion into the Presario (though I can't say for sure since I don't know which specific models you are using).  However, the Operating System (OS) installed on the Pavilion HD is licensed and tied to the Pavilion PC, and will probably start to complain about being installed in the Presario relatively soon, assuming it even boots up (there will almost certainly be driver incompatibilities and other issues).
What I would probably recommend is to first do a full recovery of the Presario, that should take care of the virus and get the computer ready to use, just like it was when it came from the factory.  See Using System Recovery, Factory Reset and Minimized Image Recovery Options for instructions on performing a recovery.  To get access to the data on the Pavilion HD, I would remove it and install it in an external USB HD enclosure (you should be able to pick one up for $20-$30), then you can plug that drive into a USB port on the Presario to get access to any data on the Pavilion HD.
    Good Luck!

  • My HP Pavilion dv2500 series computer (dv2845se). Computer won't come on -Case Manager contact me

I have a HP Pavilion dv2500 series laptop (dv2845se). Pushed power button to use and computer would not turn on at all under battery or ac power. I would like to speak to a case manager about this.

You cannot get to a Case Manager through this Forum. We are peer users (consumers) like you. That model series has known defects in the motherboard. Of course, it is now at least 4 years old and long out of warranty. HP will fix it for you but it will cost $300-400. There are many services on the internet and ebay that will do a good job repairing the faulty chip on the motherboard for around $100 or less. Personally, if it is possible financially I would get another laptop if I were you. Even with a repair the unit is inherently unreliable. You are lucky to have gotten as long a life out of it as you have.

  • Driver for the ethernet controller on a HP Pavillion P600000 Series desktop after upgrading to Windows 7 Enterprise?

After upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601), I cannot find working drivers for my ethernet controller. The desktop is a HP Pavillion, Model
No. p6710f. I located the drivers on HP's website, but Windows 7 Enterprise
is not listed as compatible. Compatibility list:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
The original driver (according to HP's site) is a Realtek PCIe Family networking controller, Version:7.26.902.2010 Rev. A.
    I tried contacting HP, but apparently I voided their warranty once I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise. I do not have a support plan with Microsoft because the operating system was purchase through TechSoup (nonprofit). I greatly appreciate your help;
let me know if you need more information.

Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise are essentially the same with regard

  • Can someone help me with a DVD burner issue on an HP Pavillion dv6700 series laptop?

Hello all. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop with a pioneer dvd rw k17b internal DVD burner drive. I recently have been experiencing issues with burning DVDs. It is saying that my burn speed is too low or the DVD is not compatible with the write speed of the burner and will not burn anything. I didn't have this problem until recently and it burned other DVDs fine until then. I have tried numerous brands of DVDs and none of them seem to work. I have also noticed that only the write speed of 2.4x shows in the drop down menu now...it had other options before. I have looked for firmware updates for the DVD burner and there isn't any. I have also checked device manager to make sure DMA was enabled and even tried uninstalling the driver and allowing windows to reinstall it upon reboot. I am running windows 7 operating system and have no clue what has happened to keep me from burning at a higher speed. I have also tried different burning software programs to see if I can get around it...no luck that way either. What has happened and how can I fix this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have a HP pavillion zv6000 and recently intalled Windows 7, it works great, updated almos all drivers except the sound driver, does any body can help me to get a driver for W7

Download the xp driver from HP. Then right click on it , properties , run as administrator, then run in compatibility mode for xp2. Should work fine after that.

Not very good advise at all.  Very few, if any, XP drivers will work properly in Windows 7 because there is too much difference in the kernels!

  • Anybody tried installing Arch on HP Pavillion TX series?

those with the rotating touchscreen and all?
tried tuxmobil and linuxonlaptops, they only have articles on Ubuntu and Fedora.
can there be any problems specific to ArchLinux, or is it safe to buy the notebook and try installing Arch, since Fedora runs well?
    thanks.

Let us know how this turns out. I was thinking about going after that series, but I can't abandon Arch. :-)

  • HP Pavillion G Series touchpad faulty. HP started helping then said product was out of warranty

My laptop (HP Pavilion g6-1343sa Notebook) doesn't work properly and hasn't done since the first day I used it. The cursor can be very erratic, flickering around the screen when I'm not even touching the touch pad. Sometimes when I am using the touch pad it will only move vertically up and down the screen, or it will start zooming in and out on the web page I am viewing as if I was pinching the touch pad and not simply trying to move the cursor around.
It didn't happen so much when the laptop was brand new and I didn't really use it very much to notice, but it's increasingly getting worse to the point where I can't use the laptop without disabling the touch pad and plugging in a mouse. I tried uninstalling the touchpad software and it seemed to be better for a while but I think that was just coincidence and the problem has come back worse then ever.
I tried to put up with it but it got the the last few days of my warranty and I realised I needed to do something or I would be stuck with a faulty laptop, so I contacted HP customer support. They advised me to carry out a factory reset of the laptop and see how that worked. I pointed out that my warranty was about to expire, and was assured that since I raised the support case during the warranty period, it would be honoured even if I reported back to them outside of the warranty period. I have this in writing from HP, yet when I reported back to the customer support adviser that the problem hadn't gone away I was immediately forwarded onto the complaints department who told me that they weren't prepared to help me because the product was now out of warranty/
I complained to them and they eventually said that if I had proof I had been told that they would help me even after the warranty expired, I could forward it to an email address they gave me. So I did this and they have ignored my email. I've sent various emails since this and they are still ignoring me. I emailed the original customer support adviser, and they have ignored me. And I sent an email to the MD of HP via the website, and so far this email has been ignored.
I've been sold faulty hardware, lied to, and ignored. I'm utterly disappointed with HP and thought I would share my experience with you. Is anyone from HP prepared to look into this for me, and fix/replace my laptop?

I have forwarded your post to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via Private Message on this forum.

  • HP Pavillion Dv2500 randomly shutting off

I have had this laptop for a few weeks now and it tonight it started randomly turning off.
when i press the power button to turn it back on it doesnt even get past the screen where you choose safe mode or normal start up.
Then after i restart it a few times it comes up with a screen asking if i want to normal restart or if i want to run a system diagnostic repair.
and when i run the system diagnostic repair it does a system restore and then will work for about 45 minutes before the whole issue starts over again.
Does anyone have a clue what i should do??
    any help is apprecaited!

My computer is having the same problem... it just happened today and I haven't done anything different than what I normally do since I've got this computer in 2009... I've got the power cord in and everything...
