2000+ renamed masters; reconnect all doesn't even try

Long story not worth going into: I have a pile of master images that have been irreversibly renamed and are currently disconnected from the library. I can locate the master for a single image, the "Reconnect" and "Reconnect All" buttons light up, "Reconnect All" correctly reconnects that one image, but Aperture doesn't connect any more beyond that.
So basically Aperture does recognize that a master I find matches whatever criteria it uses to determine it's the file it expected, but doesn't search for any other masters within the same directory, leaving me to find the next match manually.
10.8.3, Aperture 3.4.4, Files located on a second internal drive.
Is there any way for me to have the computer do what it's best at and do this repetitive work for me? It clearly recognizes the match when I do the work myself.

I know it's been reported that Aperture considers the filename as part of reconnecting but I figured since the single reconnection works fine Aperture had inspected the file enough to realize that despite the different name it was indeed the same file, and hey, maybe it should look through here for the others seeing as I asked it to reconnect all and it would be nice if it did it without me having to manually do so. But I digress.
I wish I could rename the files but they've been recovered from a deleted scratch disk ony after I found out that the other backup I had locally and the one up on CrashPlan had about 2000 zero byte files of corruption? catalog issues? I don't know; DiskWarrior and Disk Utility were no help.
TL;DR, I don't have a clear pattern for renaming these recovered master files.
So the reimport option would just be reimport all the masters images I have and thread them into my main library?
I was also toying with renaming ALL my masters using the date or something because the recovered images have the correct timestamp so I could _probably_ normalize on that…but really this just seems weird that I can't force Aperture to look for matches itself.

  • Reconnect All doesn't work

As a way to remedy the problem with lost master files, I'm going through the process of reconnecting the master files. Unfortunately, I can't the the "Reconnect All" function to work. I'm selecting a set of files that need to be reconnected. I select "Manage Referenced Files". I select all of the files in the upper pane and one of the files in the lower pane and click "Reconnect All" Only the file selected in the lower pane gets reconnected. There is no way to select multiple files in the lower pane.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Follow up to this problem.
My referenced masters are on an external disk. That disk was formatted as a FAT32 drive. Yesterday I copied all of the masters to a different disk and reformatted the disk as MacOS Extended (with the same volume name). I then copies all of the files back to the original disk.
Aperture (of course) could not find any of the files and listed them as offline. Curiously some of the files were still marked as "not found" rather than offline. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which files were marked off line and which were marked not found.
I went ahead and tried the process of reconnecting the masters and the "Reconnect all" process worked. Interestingly, it work for both files marked offline and not found.
For now, Aperture seems to have been satisfied. There are still some bugs in how Aperture is handling referenced masters. I hope Apple acknowledges and fixes these problems.

  • So I have a 2nd gen. Ipod touch.  No apps work at all because I need IOS 4.3 I guess.  I click on an app and it doesn't even try to open.  And if I delete it and try to re-download it, it says I need to upgrade.  Is there anyway to upgrade my old Ipod?

If I cannot upgrade it I will be very unhappy with Apple.

The idea that Apple made a corporate decision to simply eliminate all older iTouch devices from existence baffles me.
Why would I want to invest in any apple product knowing full well that in a few years I will simply have to throw it away. I don't have a lot of money to invest in things like this. Do you? There is no reason I shouldn't expect to be able to acquire older versions of apps for my older iTouch (read 3G IOS 4.2.1.)
I cannot get ANY ibook reader, no VNC. no mapping software. very few games (not that I care much about games.)
There must be millions of the older iTouch devices out there that are good for nothing but a landfill somewhere.
Someone said all older computing equipment eventually goes away. Not so. I have some older computers that can still run WIN98, (even WIN3.11 if I want.) I can still download old applications for those old OS's. There is no NEED to throw them away. I may WANT to, but I am not FORCED to.
While I am sure the older Android and WIN devices will eventually become less popular, they will ALWAYS be useful. I will always be able to get old apps for them. I can still get old apps for win3.11.
The older Apple device are now actually useless. That is the diffference, and it is a big one. Apple is FORCING us to upgrade. As someone pointed out, it's corporate greed.
So, yes, this and all other posts on this subject should be turned into an Apple bashing, Android vs IOS debate until we eventually get Apples attention.
Really, the only way to get Apples attention on this matter is to switch away from them and hit them in thier greed (which is exactly what I am going to do.)
They came out with the first GUI years ago and made the corporate decision to not keep in touch with thier customers. Now look at them. 98% of all desktops and laptops are running competitors OS's.
The same thing is going to happen with the IOS, but much faster this time. It won't take long for people to figure out they simply have to replace there perfectly good hardware because Apple got greedy.
But, alas, It seems Apple is happy with 2% of the marketplace. Too bad. They made a good product. I guess I MUST put mine in the can under my sink.
    Mark.

  • I can't open the iTunes app at all, it wouldnt even try to load it up.

im trying to download music but I cant find the actual app anywhere on my phones I have also tried to open it via App Store and on the apple website but nothing is working.

    Hello JazminesWorld,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot locate the iTunes Store application on your iPhone. This application cannot be deleted and the following steps will help you locate it.
I would first suggest searching for the iTunes Store application using Spotlight search. If the application is located with Spotlight, then it is on your iPhone but maybe in a different spot that what is usual. It may have been move accidentally and I would advise checking every screen of apps and all folders of apps to locate iTunes Store.
Search with Spotlight - Apple Support
If Spotlight search does not find the iTunes Store application, it may be restricted. Please use the attached article to make sure iTunes Store has not been restricted.

Verifying a file signed with an expired certificate (timestamped or not) causes Adobe Reader to raise strange CRL parsing error:

CRL has expired or is not yet valid

    Hello
This issue dates back from 2012 and is still in Adobe Reader XI and DC. The behaviour seems to happen when a certificate has expired, there are no embedded CRL/OCSP responses and Reader is configured to validate at the time the signature was made. It goes online to check revocation based on the currently available CRL which is evidently NOT the CRL that was used at the time of signature, and fails with the "...not yet valid..." error message. If the certificate is not in the CRL, it should just forget about it and check if the signature date is between the certificate notBefore and notAfter dates.
Can someone from Adobe just confirm if this is an actual bug or the intended behaviour ?
    Thank you.

  • Mini Dvi to hdmi problem, the mini dvi doesn't even plug in all the way?

    hi,
i have a mid 2007 macbook, i just bought a mini dvi to hdmi cable, i tried to plug it in and it doesn't even plug on all the way, 1/3 of the conector is still hanging out, and it doesnt display anything anyways, nothing is detected on the macbook or the TV.
somone seem to have the same exact problem as me with the laptop, but his query wasn't answered it was the last post on this thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3660057?start=0&tstart=0

Thanks for that. I have a Y adapter (3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound just like you said). Under input options on my TV, I can select either HDMI1 input (which gives me video only) or AV1/S input (which gives me audio only) - not both at once...Could you explain how I can get stereo audio on my TV?

  • I am having the problem when trying to take a panorama picture.   It may only take the first frame or doesn't even start at all when I press the shutter button. even though when i  hold the phone straight up and down, so that camera is at the top

I am having the problem when trying to take a panorama picture.
It may only take the first frame or doesn't even start at all when I press the shutter button.
even though when i  hold the phone straight up and down, so that camera is at the top on the back and the home button is on the bottom on the front.
    This problem is irritating me....?

    To take panorama
    - ensure that the panorama option is on
    - press the shutter button once
    - you will see a line with an arrow
    - move around in a circle  ( I keep the camera steady and turn myself around in a circle)
    - as you do this you will see the arrow moving across the screen as it captures pictures
    - at the end of the capture, you will be able to see your panorama picture
I hope that this helps, do report back.

By calling iPod tech support while you are under warranty.  You also have 14 days to return it w/no questions asked for a replacement or your $$$ back.

If you're unable to turn it on, let alone even charge it then it definitely sounds like a battery issue to me. I'd wait for someone else to reply just to be sure but I think somehow the battery by the sounds of it must have died. However, I could be very wrong.
If you're still under applecare which you should be then it should be an easy free fix. Hope this helps!

  • My question is what if I have troubleshooted with holding the sleep/awake button and power and it's not changing to any other screen what should I do? It doesn't even show the battery strength wheither its completely dead or charging at all.

    - If you did not charge the iPod for a couple of hours before you did the reset then charege and reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and if iTunes sees the iPod restore via iTunes.
    - Next see if recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable.

It doesn't even give me a choice to purchase it just say accept? And gives me a dropbox that says that these apps are tied to another ID and I need to log into that ID in order to download it.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
This is a common issue with second hand Macs. The iLife apps came bundled free on this Mac and they are registered to your dad's Apple ID. The only way for you to acept them into your Apple ID is for you and your dad to contact Apple Care, explain that he has passed the Mac to you and ask that the iLife apps be released from your dad's Apple ID so that you may accept them into your Apple ID.

  • "Reconnect All" actually only reconnects ONE file at a time?

    Hi,
I recently moved all my referenced masters from a USB drive which was rapidly filling up, onto a NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS Duo 2TB).
The Masters are all in exactly the same file structure (...Aperture --> Aperture Photos --> year --> month) as they were on the USB, but now have a different drive name (it's now on a network share called Media, rather than a USB drive which was called something different).
I seem to recall the feature 'Reconnect All' did just that - ie you would:
    1. Select all photos in the Library (including connected and disconnected 'orphan' ones)
    2. find a single photo which has been disconnected / master reference lost
    3. find it's 'true' master and point to it in the bottom frame of the 'Locate Referenced Files' dialogue box
    4. Click "reconnect all" and easy as you like, Aperture would use the relative position of this file to the old one, and reconnect all the disconnected files in the library.
Now, it seems only to reconnect the single file I've pointed at.
So question is, is this something I'm misremembering (ie it never worked this way?), something they've deliberately changed in Ap3.1, or something I'm doing wrong?
does it matter that this new media share is an AFP or CIFS network drive rather than a direct connected USB drive?
Any help gratefully received as I have 50 thousand images which are orphans at the moment, and I can't think how else to get them reconnect to their correct place in the library.
    Thanks in advance
    Craig

have tried your suggestion Kirby but doesn't seem to make any difference I'm afraid.
I have noticed a further issue which may be useful...
In the reconnect referenced files dialog, the old location of the files is listed as being on a drive called <null>.
the majority of the disconnected files (actually, they're listed as 'offline' files with the red cross in the bottom right of the preview) are referenced as being in this former drive location - it used to be a RAID set which I have since had to get rid of because one of the USB drives within it failed.
I managed to recover my files from a backup, put them on my new NAS (by drag and drop to answer a question above) and assumed i'd be able to reconnect them at a later date. I've been working without them being properly referenced for a number of weeks, and it's only now that I've started trying to work with them again, that I've discovered this issue that reconnect won't work.
One last thing I've tried which may be useful info...
As a separate check, I created some 'test orphans', by changing the directory name for a small number of files on the new network drive. If I go through the same Reconnect All procedure for these test orphans, then the Reconnect All works perfectly.
So it seems the root cause may be something to do with this 'Null' drive name, but I'm no closer to finding a solution or even a usable workaround.
Haven't properly played with network drive settings yet... thanks all for the thoughts on that topic, I will have a further play tonight and let you know if anything else comes up.
