2003 PowerMac G5 Wireless

Hi,
I have a 2003 Powermac G5, and while exploring inside it, it appears to have a wireless card plugged into the mobo (top left, under the fan/speaker combo), then an antenna lead going to the back of the machine.
Nothing is detected by the OS.  Do I have to hook up something to the rear port for this to work?
Thanks!

Make sure it is installed correctly.
Though the card should be recognized without, an antenna is necessary to use it.

    Thanks,

Want real airport speed, and not some PCI ethernet device? Get the Belkin F5D7001 with the Broadcomm chipset. The card will work as if you had an airport extreme inside your machine. Actually, this is a G+ based card.

  • Windows 2003 on T61 wireless adapter not showing

I have 7658( CTO) T61 with XP pro.... I downgraded windows 2003 enterprise edition SP2. i have few questions
    1. I changed the bios to compatibility mode ( I keep sata then win 2003 not booting, so changed to compatability  mode). Is it required that I keep compatability mode.?
     2. Wireless adapter is not working ( not showing at all). It is PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_1014&SUBSYS_058A1014&REV_01\4&29E2C51B&0&00E1
I downloaded and tried many drivers from lenovo website but is not working.
I have struggled for a week and searched many forums but nothing is helping me out. Please help me.

You will need the Windows 2003 compatible SATA drivers to stop using compatibility mode. I don't know if they exist... good luck there. Try Intel's web site since you probably have an Intel chipset.
As for the wireless adapter, again it may be a matter of Win2003 not recognizing the device. I would try and manually install several drivers and see which one may work. You may have to force-feed Win2003 since it doesn't recognize the hardware. Be sure you know the manufacturer of the wireless chip... Intel or Broadcom or Atheros? Look at the specs for your laptop.

  • Internal Hard Drives for 2003 PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0

    I have a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0. Specifications are here: http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMacG5.html
It was purchased in October 2003.
The manual says the computer needs drives with blade-type connectors to attach the power and data cables.
Does anyone know of specific drives and their model numbers that will work? I'm thinking of putting into two 300GB drives I could configure as RAID 0 (I have external drives for backups).
    Thanks,

  • PowerMac G5 Wireless Solutions

My roomate just got wireless internet.I bought a linksys wireless adapter with no luck. My mac doesn't recognize the network connection. I can't seem to find any drivers at the manufacturers site; or anywhere else. And I can't find and other adapters with mac drivers. Except for running an ethernet cable directly from the router, (which my roomate didn't appriciate my stringing a 50ft cable through the house) I don't know what to do.

If your Mac has an Airport Extreme card you should be able to access the network.

  • Sync Palm TX using VersaMail with Outlook 2003 without a wireless connection.

Is it possible to sync email and calendar items within outlook to a Palm TX device like they used to, with activesync?  before I could just have it grab all this info from Outlook.  Now, it wants me to setup VersaMail and use Exchange ActiveSync to grab email and calender items.  This is nice but I don't have a wireless AP for the palm to connect to.  I just want to sync these items to the palm using active sync like I have in past.
The users is going to sync their Palm with Outlook, leave for the day, have access to their outlook items, make minor changes then come back the next morning and sync it up.
If I can do it with VersaMail great, if I need something else, like a conduit, that's okay too.

You can Hotsync to Outlook. The PIM data will sync with no problem. You need to select Outlook during the installation of Palm desktop. The email may work but it depends on the type of email account.

  • Nov 2003 PowerMac G5 gets its a second wind

Man I can't believe my PowerMac Dual 2.0 is still alive an kicking. I've mainly replaced most duties with a faster MBP. What gave my PM its second wind? I installed an Intel X25-E 32GB SSD as the primary boot. I put the old 1.5TB Seagate on the upper slot and put the 32GB SSD in the lower. I figured I'll just install Leopard just for yucks and see how it works. Man was I surprised... Previously the main purpose of the PM was a media storage machine, music, photos, movies, stuff I don't want to clog the MBP with.
I'm going to keep her for a little while longer and use it as an iLife machine. I have let the other apps go the the PPC grave yard (but still installed on the 1.5TB boot drive). I kept our home directories by using vifs to add the 1.5TB User partition mounted as /Users on boot and made sure to keep all uid the same with the OS on the SSD. Backups with TimeMachine to APE with USB 2TB WD Green Drive.
    Here's what she's got
    PowerMac 2.0GHz DP
    8GB RAM
X850XT AGP 256MB (DVI and ADC)
    22" Apple Cinema ADC 1680x1050
    24" Apple Cinema DVI 1920-1200
    32GB Intel X25-E SSD
    1.5TB Seagate 7200 HDD
Sorry Apple that 27" i7 purchase is going to wait a little while longer.

Great to hear, thanks for the report.

  • 2003 G3 iBook wireless

My family is getting a wireless router for our home and my dad graciously offered to pick up whatever I needed for my iBook so I can enable wireless.
I'm not quite sure where to start. I have heard that the airport cards that are made for the G3 models are becomming more and more difficult to find but I was also told that the new ones *i.e. the ones you can purchase online* are okay to use with the older iBooks. Any help with that?
My next question is: Once you have the airport card, where does it go and can you put it in yourself or does it need to be installed by Apple?
ANy help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
I also upgraded my iBook from OS X 10.2 to Tiger if that's any help.

    Hello. Welcome to the Forum.
There are actually various places on the Web where you can buy an Airport card: eBay and Amazon.com often list them. Do a Google searach for the latest offers. The problem is that the going price at this places is around $130 to $140. Apple sold them for only about $90 a couple of years ago.
I believe that the Airport card is superior to USB WiFi adapters, which are now selling for about $60 to $70. It has a better antenna on the iBook, and it is less likely to give you trouble, although WiFi always seems to act up no matter what you are using to connect.
You also might try non-Apple computer stores that are authorized dealers, but the chances are slim. A used computer store may be a better bet; it may have Airport cards salvaged from dead iBooks. Don't expect a bargain, though, unless you have a friend like Mia's.
G3 iBooks are really popular now. Did you hear about the riot that broke out when the Richmond, VA, school district offered 500 used iBooks for sale and a thousand people showed up?

  • Powermac G4 as media file server/storage?

    Hello everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I currently run a 15" Pbook G4 1.67g with 2 GB of RAM and 100GB HD, hooked up to an 80GB and 250GB external FW drives. I've slowly been transferring all my DVDs and CDs to the drives, not to mention video footage and all the photos I've been taking. Right now I've got maybe 3 or 4 GB free between the 3 drives.
I'm greedy. I want to keep going. I don't want to trim back. I have this dream of getting ALL of my music and movies onto HD storage, so I can digitally access any of my media at any time.
I run iTunes off my Pbook to access my library (which is stored on the 250GB external), but it runs SOOO SLOOOWW. iTunes is extremely sluggish and slow to react. Batch editing files (I'm extremely anal about the tags and album art) takes FOREVER. I hate it.
I blame the external drives. Maybe they're slow? (The 250GB FW is a Maxtor OneTouch drive).
I do have an old Powermac G4 dual 533mhz with a nearly-dead 80GB HD in it. I was wondering if there was a simple way to load that machine up with the maximum amount of HD storage, and hook it up to the Pbook for my super-optimal-dream-media-storage solution.
I'd prefer the cheapest and fastest (in terms of access/transfer speed) solution possible. I know I can set up the Powermac as a file server (but I don't know HOW), and I know I could set up the Powermac as a FW target drive and just plug it in (is that really optimal? Also, I have sold the monitor for it ... all I have is the keyboard and mouse.. is there a way to hook up the MacG4 to the Pbook as a monitor? and how much of a headache would it be to repeatedly connect/disconnect to the MacG4 without a monitor?)
Anyway. I'm also open to solutions which would make the Powermac a wireless storage solution, since I live in a small apartment and love toting the Pbook around to surf and blog in bed, at the table, in the kitchen, etc.. except with my current setup I have to disconnect it from the music storage. So I can't have my Pbook in the kitchen and play wirelessly off iTunes...
Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? I know I'm asking like a million questions in one post, but I appreciate all the help in advance.

    Hi, jzn omg!

Your hard drives are severely overloaded. I try to maintain at least 10-15% or more available space on a drive, particularly on a startup drive. I'm not surprised that the applications are "beachballing" - your system hasn't been given sufficient hard drive space from which it can effectively operate. Moreover, your drive data is likely to be significantly fragmented with the system working "overtime" to constantly search for and piece together files before it can use them and execute the next command.

  • Transfer data from Powermac G4 to new 27" iMac

I have a 2003 PowerMac G4 that I am replacing with a new 27" iMac 3.4 i7 which is on order. I want to transfer my photos and iTunes files to the new machine. I had purchased a LaCie d2 USB3/Thunderbolt harddrive in hopes of backing up the G4 but it is "not supported by this architecture". The G4 was updated to USB 2. The LaCie is USB3/USB2 compatible.
Can I use Migration Assisant going form a pre-Intel computer to an Intel based computer? Is there a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt or USB 3 cable? There is about 200 GB that I need to transfer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Powermac g5 (single 1.6Ghz) won't boot

Hi there, I have a mid-2003 powermac g5 that is refusing to boot. When I power it on, the fans spin, but the LED flashes continuously. I've tried the hairdryer thingy and that hasn't worked. I suspect the RAM is the problem, but I took one card out and tried to boot it, changing cards each time. This hasn't worked either. Also, when I power on the computer the display doesn't recognise it...
Please help, as I need to get this computer working soon!

Hello, the RAM needs to be in opposing Pairs, one stick will not work.
The fans speeding up is normal safety feature when no OS is running.
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Setting up a bridge for solaris 10

    Hi,
I currently have a dual boot for on my desktop (Solaris 10 and WinXP). I'm currently looking for a way to get online while in solaris, my WinXP install is on a wireless network but it's almost impossible to find wireless drivers for solaris so i'm trying to use my ethernet capabilities.
I bought a wireless print server which has a bridge feature and i'm hoping to find some information on how to setup a bridge on my solaris install.
Any help or direction will help me a lot since I'm very new to solaris. Thank you in advanced.

I have a similar issue but have not been able to get this solution to work.
I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n that is set up in bridge mode and connected to a DSL modem that assigns IP addresses.
I wish to use a remote Airport Express (late 2008) 802.11n to connect via ethernet to a PowerMac without wireless.
    In summary I desire: DSL-ethernet-AirportExtreme-wireless-AirportExpress-ethernet-PowerMac
I have reset the Airport Express to factory defaults and then set to "Join wireless network" and checked allow Ethernet clients. The Airport Express gets an IP address but any number of Macs I have tried will not get an IP address in DHCP mode (except a self-assigned one). I have verified that the cable works: when I connect the Macs to the Airport Extreme base station, they all get an IP address. All versions of firmware are 7.4.1. I have also tried checking and unchecking "Allow this network to be extended" on the Airport Extreme.
    Please help. Thanks

A unix executable file named "_VUC69~7" has appeared in the finder on the top level of my main hard drive.
Curious - any ideas what it is, why it's appeared & whether I can or should make it disappear?
    Many thanks in advance, P.

Many thanks, I had found these links but not sure they are relevant to my situation -- just a powermac & a wireless internet connection.
I wasn't aware that I was using Samba, would it run without my knowledge?
Also have never knowingly set up a Linux file server -- are these all things that happen "under the hood" that an average user doesn't realise are going on?
The file was created last March but I can't think what I did around this time that would have created it.
