2004s AreaGroupPage and PCD objects in Portal

I know in NW04 ESS, in the portal we would create 2 pages to a workset:
(one for displaying the menu and one for displaying the services)
And 2 Iviews:
1) An SAP Web Dynpro iView that calls the XSSMenuArea application
2) An SAP Web Dynpro iView
You create this iView on the page that is to display the services.
You must enter a system ID for this iView. The system ID must refer to the J2EE server
on which the Web Dynpro services are executed.
How does this change in 2004s???  I dont see the need to create 2 pages anymore?

Look at the structure of the business package for NW04...
There is 2 of the same iviews and 2 pages for every application.
For example:
- Personal Information (page)
        - Personal Information (iview)
- Personal Information (page)
        - Personal Information (iview)

  • Managing iViews and other PCD Objects

    Hi,
    I have visited some help on Managing iViews and other PCD Objects at

    But I want to know when are these things actually put to use. For example, I would simply create an iview and add it to a page. Can you give me a real scenario where this is required. Especially if any of you have used this on your projects.
    How do I start if I wish to pick up this feature? Any blogs on good exapmles which I can use deploy and learn?
    Thanks!!

  • Transport of PCD and Content objects through JDI.

    Hi all,
    Pls share the views about the trasport procedure for PCD and Content objects.
    Is it possible to transport PCD and Content objects through JDI?
    If it is possible, could you pls share how to configure the JDI setup?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kishore.

    Hi Kishroe,
    First, there is no supported, out of the box way to handle content objects in the JDI (now NWDI- NetWeaver Development Infrastructure) With that said, since it is a repository you could export your content package. Make it a zip file or something like that and add it to the repository.
    Again, I believe this is theoretically possible. I'm sure some of the other SDN members can provide an automated approach to do this.
    Good luck,
    John

  • JES 2 (2004/Q2 and 118263-14 - Portal 6.3 PC 14)

    Hi all,
    Just wanted to 'ping' the crowd, has anyone else tested JES 2 and the current public release 118263-14 (portal 6.3 and patch cluster 14) ?
    My PC12 (plus patch from 13 to fix a bug regression) is rock solid, but doing some testing with PC14, I find that once 1 single user logs in, and retrieves the authenticated portal desktop, you can refresh the screen (F5) and you'll start to see the 'webservd' threads escalate, and after a short while, it continues past "999" and will soon core dump the webservd process (a single user can cause this within 30 seconds)
    Has anyone else experienced this ?
    I'm not rocking the boat, and only have 115766-01 (Access manager 6.2 PC 1 installed)
    SUN support is on this, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hey There,
    If you are using 6.0.. stop, pull out! eject ! Do not pass Go. at a minimum java client versions will give you grief. Yep the docs are a tad... errr.. lacking...
    I'd suggest you at a min use 2005/Q1, it seems to be relatively stable, or patch 2004/Q2 to at least PC_9 or PC_10, and you should have a stable platform.
    - We stopped using Netfile (the built-in samba share) due to it's poor performance, and reverted to a GPL version:
    http://www.dragonsdawn.net/~gordon/smb-network/
    - it's awesome with SRA, as it's incrediably fast, only drawback is it doesn't do deletes, whereas netfile gives you this.
    - as far as the original thread, yes waaay back, I saw this error, and it had to do with some of the solaris TCP variables missing on a base install.
    specifically "domainname" (type that at prompt and you should not see a "blank" return. (defaultdomain variable). Check all your other TCP settings as well and ensure everything is fully working,
    Thanks

  • Problems deleteting PCD-objects at level 9

    Hi
    Recently our PCD-structure have gotten deeper. Our PCD-structure starts with the folder "Portal Content" at level 1. As a result of the structure getting deeper, I am experiencing problems with deleting PCD-objects, iViews or pages, at level 9. When I right-click on the object and select delete, the tool for finishing the delete never appears.
    Level 8 objects are ok. I am at SAP EP V6.0 SP13.
    Has anyone else experienced problems with this. Were you able to find a workaournd?
    Help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Reidun,
    I am using EP 6.0.14.0.0
    I tried it and I am not facing this problem.
    I think..I came with a same kind of problem earlier.
    When I try to create the directory structure in my local File System using Java it was not creating deeper directories more than level 7.
    This is because of some restriction in char length I think.
    Do onething..Try to Reduce the length of your folder/roles/pages/iviews  names.
    like
    Sample :
    If you have
    "MyPCDFolderStructureOne" then reduce it to
    "PCDOne" - just for sample

  • Setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None".

    Hi all
    I have an EP 6.0 on NW04 SPS 17. I need to solve a problem and found note 960975. My question is, how could we change the setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None"? Where should I go? Is it on the NWA, Visual Admin, Configtool or somewhere else?
    Many thanks before.

    Hi Agoes,
    By using the tool Support Desk -> Portal Content Directory -> PCD Administration you can do this. Please note that this tool should only be used in debugging situations.
    There is a new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" in this tool. With this new functionality, you can remove an object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster. If the object is still in use, it will be reread immediately from the database
    Releasing the entire PCD cache can severely affect performance. Hence, if there are inconsistencies suspected with a single object, e.g. a role or an iview, the new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" can be used to evict the given object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster.

  • Nwdi-managed access of pcd-objects from java web dynpro

    Hi,
    im am trying to access portal pcd-objects from a java web dynpro component (namely getting and setting personalized iview properties). for locally managed web dynpro components this works fine with the code below.
    when i try the same with a nwdi managed web dynpro component i run into problems regarding references to used dcs. for instance, i need to reference used dc SAP_JTECHS/tc/epbc/pcm/adminapi/java because the build needs tcepbcpcmadminapijava.jar which is inside the mentioned dc. but access permissions of this dc don't allow the dependency. when i try to "add used dc ..." in nwds i get the error message: illegal dependency: access list does not allow use of ...
    has someone any solution for this problem? are there other ways of accessing pcd-objects from java web dynpro (nwdi managed!)?
    thanks

    To access the PCD objects the code you used looks ok for me but your main issues is related to the dc access permissions. This thread discussed about the similar issue. Please review this below thread.

  • Check PCD object permissions

    Hi,
    I am trying to check the PCD object permission for the logged in user with minimal performance impact.
    I am using below code. This doesn't seem to work and "hasPermissions" always returns "false". Can someone tell me the problem with below code?
    IUserFactory userFactory= UMFactory.getUserFactory();
    IAclManager manager = UMFactory.getAclManager();
    boolean hasPermission = manager.isAllowed("pcd:portal_content/ABC/XYZ/ROLE/TESTROLE", request.getUser(), IPermission.PCM_ADMIN_READ);
    I tried another approach as well. This one did return "true" (expected result) but the issue is we have to lookup the object everytime. This might cause performance issues when checking permissions for many objects.
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, IPcdContext.PCD_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, request.getUser());
    env.put("com.sap.portal.jndi.requested_aspect", PcmConstants.ASPECT_ADMINISTRATION);
    InitialContext iCtx = null;
    try {
        String objectName = "pcd:portal_content/ABC/XYZ/ROLE/TESTROLE";
        iCtx = new InitialContext(env);
        IAdminBase myAdmin =(IAdminBase)iCtx.lookup(objectName);
        IPermission myIview = (IPermission) myAdmin.getImplementation(IAdminBase.PERMISSION);
        hasPermission = myIview.isAllowed(request.getUser(),IPermission.PCM_ADMIN_READ);
    } catch (Exception e) {
        e.printStackTrace();

    Hi,
    If onlly certain pcd objects are locked which are used by other users parallely or if some one opened the object and not closed properly  then  you can go to the above path as suggested and unlock the objects.
    If that is not the case then below threads will help you.

  • ITS iviews and services objects

    Dear all,
    I have a problem with an ITS iview : transaction ME23N
    We have implemented the archive link to attach some numerical document on SAP object.
    When I go directly in ME23N in SAPgui, I can click on Services objects button, then Store business document, then I choose a document type. A frontend windows is opened to allow us to select a local file on my computer and archive it.
    When I jump in ME23N through the iview portal, I can click on Services objects then Store business document, but then I can see the document type but I can't select it.
    Can someone help me please ? is it possible to use this functionnality and how ?
    Thanks
    Kind regards
    Véronique

    Eliz,
    iviews are Portal content objects in portal where as Services are maintained in the backend system.
    services are used in HomePage Framework .basically service holds a resource that points to a PCD location in portal.By using this we can reorgananise the ESS and MSS in portal
    check this blog

  • Creating PCD object via API

    Is is possible to programmatically create PCD objects such as iViews/Pages etc.?

    Hi,
    The way to create PCD objects such as iViews and pages is documented in the following link in the help portal (Portal --> Developer Guide --> Developing Applications --> Creating Content --> Managing iViews and Other PCD Objects:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fd/ea5c42da4de92ce10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    Here's an overview for creating an iView from a PAR and adding it to the folder at pcd:portal_content/myFolder :
    IiViews iViewSrv = (IiViews)
        PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources().getService(IiViews.KEY);
    INewObjectDescriptor IVtoCreate = (INewObjectDescriptor)
        iViewSrv.instantiateDescriptor(CreateMethod.NEW,
            "par:/applications/myProject/components/myComponent",
                request.getUser());
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
        IPcdContext.PCD_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, request.getUser());
    env.put(Constants.REQUESTED_ASPECT, PcmConstants.ASPECT_SEMANTICS);
    InitialContext iCtx = null;
    try
        iCtx = new InitialContext(env);
        String folderName = "pcd:portal_content/myFolder";
        Context ctx = (Context)iCtx.lookup(folderName);
        ctx.bind("myNewHelloIV", IVtoCreate);
    catch(Exception e)
    Hope this helps.

  • SRM system object within Portal: WAS settings with Webdispatcher

    Hello Portal experts,
    we have SAP EHP4 ERP system (only ABAP stack).
    In order to use some SRM functionality we installed SAP EP (EHP1) and creates a appropriate system object within portal.
    We use a  Webdispatcher, so we have to replace within WAS area the local address by the address of Webdispatcher and appropriated port (webserver:567).
    The tests of this system object looks as follows:
    The address of http://webserver:567 can be retrieved
    The problem are the results of following tests:
    http://webserver:567/sap/bc/ping
    http://webserver:567/sap/bc/webdynpro
    These errors occured because the both pathes /sap/bc/ping and /sap/bc/webdynpro do not exist on Portal/Java engine.
    Questions:
    How can we connect ABAP backend to Portal with extra Webdispatcher?
    What are the setting within WAS area?
    kind regards

    Hi Thom,
    Is your webdispatcher in front of your portal? or in front of the ICM of your Backend System?
    If the applications that you want to enable via your EP are of the type: WD for ABAP, BSP, IAC or ITS then you should also have a webdispatcher in front of your Backend System (in addition to on in front of your portal).
    Please check the following link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/48/9a9a6b48c673e8e10000000a42189b/frameset.htm
    On this page, scroll down to the last example. Although the image is there to explain "High Availability of the SAP Web Dispatcher" it gives you a good view on the request respond steps.
    One rule of thumb is that the EP system itself doesn't act as a reverse-proxy. In other words, if an iView points to a WD 4 ABAP application on the Backend then the actual WD4ABAP application is rendered in an iFrame.
    From a technical/connection point of view the client (browser) has 2 connections, one to the EP and 1 tot the Backend.
    Allot of people do not realize this when they start there project...
    Cheers, hope this helps you a bit....

  • HTTP Headers - enabling caching and compression with the portal?

    Has anyone configured their web server (IIS or Apache) or use a commercial product to flawlessly cache and compress all content generated by the portal?
    Compression and caching is critical for making our portal based applictions work for overseas users. It should be doable, just taking advantage of standard HTTP protocols, but implementing this a complex system like the portal is tricky, we seem to be generating different values in the HTTP Headers for the same types of files (such as CSS).
    We are running Apache so can't take advantage of the built in compression capabilities of the .net portal. We are running the java vervion. 6.1 mp1, sql server 2000 (portal, search, collab, publisher, studio, analytics, custom .net and java portlets on remote server).
    Basically our strategy is to compress all outgoing static and dynamic text content (html, CSS, javascript), and to cache all static files (CSS, javascript, images) for 6 months to a year depending on file type.
    Here are some links on the subjects of caching and compression that I have compiled:

    Hi Scott,
    Does Weblogic platform 8.1 supports netscape? We have developed a portal which

    Netscape 4.x and below have terrible performance with nested tables.
    The
    problem is not the Portal server but rather Netscape on the client machine.
    If IE and/or a recent version of Netscape/Mozilla is not possible then
    there are
    really only two options:
    1) Faster client hardware - not likely to be an acceptable solution.
    2) Minimize the number of portlets and the complexity within the portlets.
    Neither of these solutions are a great answer, but the 4.7 series of
    Netscape is
    getting pretty old. Having said that, we've got customers who want to
    continue
    to use IE 4 :)
    Again, though, this problem is, I'm afraid out of our hands. It is the
    client
    rendering time that is the issue.

    b/c it takes so long to load some of the webapps. What the pages willdo when
    loading is that the headers will come up and when it gets to the bodyof the page
    it seems to stall and then comes up all of a sudden. For some of thepages it
    takes 6 seconds and for others it takes about 24-27 seconds.
    We have suggested using IE only but that is not an option with allof the customers

    Omri

    Solved it on my own by restarting the portal.
