2004s Workbook Sheet Protection

I have been attempting to protect the results area of a sheet in a workbook.
I have set the properties of the analysis grid to "Enable Cell Protection"
I have made the following excel settings.
The relevant results area cells have been set to locked.  Format > Cells > Protection = Locked.
I have turned on Sheet Protection.  Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet.
Saved my workbook.  At this point the results area is protected however if I close and open my workbook, the sheet is no longer protected.
Can anyone comment on this issue.
Thanks
Ian

I have just activated the "Protect Workbook" in workbook settings and the the enable cell protection is now working for the analysis grid.

  • Workbook Refresh Sheet Protection

    Hello Gurus.
I want to protect some cells in the sheet from the user, in order not to modified it, i'm using BEx 3.5 and the excel function of blocking cells and sheet protection, but when I save the workbook and then try to refresh it, it's saying me that this function is not available with excel protection, so I wonder of another way of protect my cells from user and also be able to refresh data in query.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
there is a possibility to use the SAP Workbook protection.
Menu Business Explorer->Tools->SAP Protection. This prevents people from changing anything outside query area.

  • XMP files created in LR5 are showing in Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files--???

I import NEF files as I've done for years...no problem on import.
Now I've noticed that once I start making adjustments in LR5, the accompanying XMP files show in the Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files. Instead of as "Adobe XMP" files. Huh???
I'm able to work fine within LR, but since I noticed this I've been a) converting imported files to DNGs within LR, and b) importing new files as DNGs.
But sometimes I want to import files as NEFs...any idea why this is happening? Is it a LR bug? Is DNG conversion the best (only?) solution?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has a clue!

Hmmm, my concern isn't with opening the XMP, it's that the file type seems to have changed and I don't know how that's happening.
Here's a screenshot comparison from Finder windows:

  • Why iWork doesn't open an exel file 97'-2004 workbook? Icon shoes default during import.

Why iWork doesn't open an exel file 97'-2004 workbook?

  • Programatically convert Excel workbook sheet to an image (bmp or jpeg)

My client has a requirement for me to convert an Excel workbook sheet to an image of any kind, bmp, jpeg, ect. This is a batch Java 1.5 application and I have generated a spreadsheet using JExcelApi. Now I need to email the spreadsheet as an inline image ... the client does not want an attachment. I'm using the Spring framework Mail api to actually email it. This api requires inline content be an image. Therefore, I need a way to programatically convert Excel to an image.
I've done my homework and researched for many hours now, but have not come up with any solutions. I also looked at 3rd party tools googling thru pages and pages of converters, but they all seem to be GUI tools to manually do the conversion. Aspose.cells looked promising but it only supports .Net, for this functionality. Please suggest a 3rd party tool, or provide a code sample of how to do the conversion.
    Thanks!

  • Linking from a cell to a workbook sheet

I know in Numbers I can set the text in a cell to be a hyperlink to a webpage or an email message--- but is there any way I can set it so that when it's clicked it will take me to another page in the same workbook?  If not, is there another way I can approximate that function (creating a "button" or something)?  Been trying to figure this out a while...

    I had some minutes available.
    Here is the new script:
    --[SCRIPT gotoRange]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : gotoRange.scpt
déplacer le fichier créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Il vous faudra peut-être créer le dossier Numbers et peut-être même le dossier Applications.
Placez le curseur dans la table de travail
menu Scripts > Numbers > gotoRange
Dans le dialogue affiché, sélectionnez le groupe de cellules que vous voulez atteindre.
    +++++++
Save the script as Script : gotoRange.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Put the cursor in the table to use
menu Scripts > Numbers > gotoRange
In the displayed dialog select the range to reach.

Please help me, it stresses me, dont have much time left :( thx If you have use excel and know what's an excel wokbook and excel sheet, then you know the answer. If you Don't, then a workbook it's a sheet container. And sheets are each of the reports/queries that you have in a workbook.
And from the Discoverer manual, in the Glossary:
Workbook: "One or more sheets created and saved together. Each sheet is displayed in a sepa-rate tab in the workbook."
sheet : "A tab in the workbook window. A sheet displays the results of one or more queries."

  • Reports to show which workbooks/sheets that use certain folders/columns

    Hi,
I need to be able to create reports in Discoverer 10.1.2.45.46c that show which workbooks/worksheets use certain folders and preferably columns.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
    Thanks
    Dennis

Have you looked at the Admin Guide? - there is an end-user layer export included with the product that has a lot of this pre-built. If it doesn't have the exact report you need at least it builds a lot of structure to help you on your way. You just go into the Admin tool and import the provided EEX file.

  • Smartview Problem with Protected Sheets

    Hello,
We use Hyperion Smart View in our company and discovered a problem while using protected excel sheets while the addin is active. Excel asks for the password but doesnt accept it even if it is the right password. If we disable the addin the problem disappears. Has somebody else such a problem ?
Has somebody a solution or a workaround ?
    Thanks for the help

This issue was logged under Bug 6591401 - When Smart View is active and the worksheet is protected, the following error message is encountered ''Drawing Objects in one or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Please unprotect them and try to save again.'' However, Bug 6591401 has been closed as not a defect.
The following is an explanation of how Smart View handles protected cells and a workaround for this issue:
Smart View needs some place to store it's own metadata within the Excel spreadsheet and it has been using a certain non-obtrusive object for the same. In versions 9.2 and prior, Smart View attempted to unprotect the Excel worksheets to be able to write it's metadata. That led to unexpected behavior when there were passwords used with the protection. This was fixed in 9.3.1.1.2 to make Smart View elegantly honor the spreadsheet protection and not touch objects which are specified as out of bounds by the user. However, when a spreadsheet is protected, this object can become inaccessible to Smart View, after which even a simple save operation cannot go through. In that sense, the current behavior is indeed the correct behavior, where the user placed restriction is honored correctly. The next question will be how can customers then work with protected sheets.
While protecting a worksheet, the following dialog appears which is where the user will have to establish what kind of operations will be allowed on this worksheet. By default the top two options are the only ones that come pre-selected. Just allowing these two options is not sufficient for Smart View to be able to work with the worksheet.
What also needs to be enabled is the option for "Edit Objects" which appears towards the end of the list. It is this option that helps Smart View to be able to persist it's own metadata within the worksheet in a non-obtrusive fashion. The guidance to all Smart View users should be to start enabling this option too, if they choose to apply worksheet protection.

  • SmartView issue with Excel protected sheets

    Hi,
I'm facing an issue working with SmartView and Excel protected sheet.
When a try to refresh data SmartView get error "One or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Unprotect the sheets and try the operation again".
    Sheet layout is composed as:
    - account in row
    - period, scenario and version in column
    - other dimension in point of view.
The goal of sheet protection is restrict on Excel side the set of cell available for user input and avoid the user add more account in row.
Is there a workaround to use SmartView work with protected sheet or the only way is unprotect it?
    Any suggestion is really appreciated.
    The system configuration is:
    WindowsXP SP3
    Excel 2007
    SmartView 11.1.2.1.00
    Regards

No, sorry Smart View has no access to write to the cell of a protected sheet. If you are skilled in VBA you could write a routine that unprotects your sheet does the SV operation and then re-protects. This may require you to hard code your protection password in code so I am not sure if this will work for you. Excel sheet protection lock the user and programs from updates so there is not much that can be done.

  • Excel Services - Protected Sheets

    Hi there,
Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question.
I'm trying to find out how to manage some permissions with Excel Services but I'm kinda stucked. So, imagine I have an excel file with some tables that i want to show on an "Excel Web Access" Web Part. The point is I want to limit "end users"
permissions, so they would just be able to edit part of my spreadsheet. It would work fine with excel "Sheet Protection" feature but Excel Web Acess doesn't support it.
I also tried to use the REST API but as soon as I protect my document (via excel sheet protection feature i mentioned before) the api doesn't seem to send me any results.
Does anyone have any idea how can i solve this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luís

SharePoint generally doesn't have a way to deal with 'part' of an item, with regards to security. What you'll want to do is separate the worksheet in the workbook into a separate Excel file. ECS/EWA do not support protected sheets, as you've found out.

Is this the only approach to meet this requirement or is there any other way to crack it. sharepoint techies please help me.

as you described the scenario of the event that it should happen when user upload excel to a document library. Event Receiver is your best bet. However if you would have a requirement that users can send excel files any time to a network file location and
you want to pick it, read it and create list items etc. You would write a sharepoint timer job that would run every 10 minute to check for file and if available on the network drive, perform the operation etc. so that users who send excel file does not need
to come to the sharepoint etc. You can see that you have Event Receivcer option or Timer job option OR you would write a console application to trigger the code at a scheduled time on sharepoint server etc. so you are using the event receiver in the correct
    scenario.

  • Can I use Power Query to Import a table from Excel sheet range which starts not from the top row?

    Hi,
Being an experienced Excel user before Power BI, I am just starting to explore the M and Power Query capabilities, and need help already (ain't easy to google this use case somehow):
I need to import the table which sits in the Excel file with header row in the row 17 of Excel sheet, with some metadata header in the preceding rows of the columns A and B.
    01: Report name, Quick Report
    02: Report Date, 1/1/2014
    17: Employee Name, Manager, etc...
18: John Doe, Matt Beaver, etc.
Both (a) direct attempt to load as Excel file and (b) the indirect way through [From Folder] and formula in custom column -- both lead to the same error: "[DataFormat.Error] External table is not in the expected format."
Specifically, I tried to use the [Power Query -> From File -> From Folder] functionality, select an Excel file and add a custom column to access the binary content: [Add Custom Column] with formula "=Excel.Workbook([Content])".
It looks like Power Query expects a rectangular range with headers full-width followed by a contiguous table range to import anything, and refuses to load if that is not the case...
QUESTION: Is there any way to load whatever-formatted data from Excel first, and then manipulate the overall imported range (like referring to rows starting from 17th using "Table.SelectRows" etc.) to read the actual data? Reading and using
the metadata from header would be a bonus, but that comes second... The main issue is to get something from a non-regular Excel file to later work with using M formulae ...
    Thanks!
    SAM

Finally found the answer to this one in ():
You Cannot Open a Password-Protected Workbook
If the Excel workbook is protected by a password, you
cannot open it for data access, even by supplying the correct password with
your connection settings, unless the workbook file is already open in the
Microsoft Excel application. If you try, you receive the following error
      message:
    Could not decrypt file.
ANSWER: So, will have either weave in the work with temporary unprotected files or requires opening them before updating the data source (although this almost defeats the purpose of automation...)
ANSWER to ORIGINAL QUESTION: password was preventing Power Query from reading the Excel file. For solution see above.
Thanks anyway for participation and inspiration, Imke!
