2005 iBook G4 lcd display has turned streaky fuzzy pink and blue

Boot up laptop screen looks fine. Goes to sleep, wake it up, screen is now weird. Gone fuzzy, no true colors, looks streaky, pink and blue. I rebooted, no change. I'm plugged in, so it is not a power/battery issue. Since I've had this since 2005 I suspect I have to replace the screen, but heck I don't know. Can an expert help me here? I've got a screen shot to share, how do I upload it?

O&O,
I've got a screen shot to share, how do I upload it?
I think to upload here you have to have a membership. I just upload pics on PhotoBucket:
http://photobucket.com/
It would help to see a pic.
This is from the service manual for the 14" 1.42 GHz mid '05:
"xScrambled or distorted video
Check for video on external display.
• If video is fine on external display, replace LVDS cable.
• If video is scrambled or distorted on external display, replace LCD panel."
That last line is a bit extreme AFAIC. I suppose a bad display could cause the GPU to put out distorted video. So if it was me I'd unplug the LDVS cable and then if the external display cleared up then I'd replace the LCD panel.
The 1.42 also uses the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 4x AGP I have one of these in a 1.33 12" and it went bad. My normal repair is to swap in a good chip from a PC laptop graphics card. Unfortunately I can't find a cross reference to that chip being used anywhere else but the iBook 1.33 and 1.42.
after it was sleeping for 3 hours and the screen is bad again
Have you tried resetting PMU? Does any of this involve moving the screen? That's one of my checks for a bad LVDS.

    Hey there Harold499,
I understand that you are experiencing some issues with your iPad screen. I have an article for you that will help you troubleshoot this issue a little further:
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203039
Since you have already reset the iPad, I would recommend that you start by restoring the iPad, then proceed from there. Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • IBook with LCD displays

    Hi,
For quite sometime now I am thinking of moving on to a bigger display with my iBook. One thing I am sure is, iBook won't work with Apple's cinema display.
I thought of looking on to other options like DELL 20" or Samsung. I am still not sure if my iBook will work with other external LCD monitors or not. I know it will be normal Analog VGA supported display connection.
Will it atleast look like a mac mini or powerbook hooked up to a cinema display (more work area on desktop and more windows can be opened)?
I tried connecting it to my CRT Monitor (19")...it was the same as on my iBook display. One big window open and no increase in work area. I hope i explained the problem fairly well. I want to see something like in those good pictures of apple cinema displays or dell connected to a PC

Thanks for the information. I heard about this "hac", but I wasn't sure that this would solve my problem. OK, thats nice. But somebody mentioned somewhere in some forum that this software voids the warranty on my iBook. Is this correct?? I asked literally to apple "Is there any way to solve my problem?" and they said NO.
Just wondering if this would do more harm to me than good - in long run.

  • The quality of printing is drastically reduced. The page has faint horizontal pink and blue stripes

Over the last several days the quality of print has diminshed.  Currently, printed pages have horizontal faint stripes of pink and bue and some yellow.  Also, there is a thin blue vertical stripe on the right side of the paper.

  • My Mac Book Pro display has turned purple/blue, - why?

My screen started to flickr and has now turned purply/blue as if something has died..any one know why?

Your first choice is to go to System Preferences>Displays>Color.  Make sure that your profile set is the appropriate one for the MacBook Pro, which should be "Color LCD".
I'm going to skip all of the normal suggestions of resetting this and that, because from what I've researched this in the past, and it appears you have an issue with either the graphics chip (low probability) or a worn cable causing one of the color channels to be bad or your LED screen has a problem.
In other words, it's probably hardware related.

  • Display has turned everything "photo-negative"

my daughter was button mashing and somehow turned my display to a photo-negative look. my menu bar is black with orange highlights and all applications are running the same look too. i tried to fix it in system preferences but had no luck. any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks!

Press the Option, Command, Control, and 8 keys simultaneously, or turn off White on Black in the Seeing tab of the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.

  • My display has turned into 3 equal scrambled columns

Did my graphics card just bite the dust? I was watching a QuickTime video. The video started distorting, and now the display shows 3 equal columns (the outer columns are the same, the middle column is a different color) with symmetrical scrambled lines.

  • Thunderbolt display has power but no picture and no USB power

I've had my TB display working well with my Macbook for a while with no problems.  This morning I started up the MacBook but the display didnt respond and the USB ports do not seem to be working.  Keyboard and mouse both work when plugged directly into the MacBook but not when connected to the display.  The MacBook is charging from the display so it has power, but nothing else seem to be working.  Any ideas, or am I looking at taking it in to the local store for repair?
    Thanks,
    DB

First try 'resetting' the Display by disconnecting it from mains for about 15 minutes and then plugging it back in. I've only had the problem that you describe once and this was the 'fix' for me.

  • File has turned to question mark and info now lost

i created a file and put it in my dock to hold all of my go pro videos before conversion.  the file has now turned to a question mark and won't open and i cannot find it in finder. i have tried plugging the go pro back in to see if it would work then but it won't. please help!!! this folder has all of my wedding videos in it!!!

I have followed the instructions you performed:-
Created a new folder on the desktop.
Dragged it to the right hand side of the Dock. In the area that has the Trash and Downloads area, it will not go into the Applications area i.e. Mail, Safari etc, I did not expect it would.
The important thing to note is that the New folder remained on the Desktop.
I then dragged files into the folder in the dock, all OK so far, but note they were also in the same folder on the Desktop, i.e the Dock Icon was just an alias of the folder on the Desktop.
I then trashed the folder on the Desktop and I was able to still access the files and add new ones even though the folder was in the Trash, i.e. the alias followed where I put the original file.
I then emptied the Trash and tried to access the folder in the Dock, I got the Question mark.
So did you trash the folder you had created on the desktop and then subsiquently emptied the Trash?
If so that would follow exacty the test I did.
If this is what as occurred you may be able to find some file recovery software that will get some/all of your photos back, I have no suggestions on what software to buy.
If this is not what you did, I a sorry but I am out of ideas.
    Hope you get them back.

  • Finder has turned to complete jibberish and totally unusable!

    Hi there!
This is my first post in the community. I have done a search for my issue, but cannot find a solution - or even the same problem. Maybe because I don't exactly know how to describe it.
First, my finder was SLOW to load. Then it quit loading large folders, like "Pictures" at all. Now when I launch Finder I get a scramble of screens/images all in a sort of patchwork design. Kinda cool to look at, but I am completely unable to use Finder. I have restarted the computer, relaunched Finder, etc., but to no avail. I saw one post about deleting the plist from the library, but since I cannot use Finder at all, I couldn't even try that.
Has anyone else experience this? Anything I can try before going to the computer shop?
Here is a screen shot of what is happening:
By the way, my computer is an older Macbook Pro, purchased in July 2007, and I am running Mavericks. I know this is the last upgrade I'll be able to do, but I'm not ready to spend the $$ to by a new Macbook just yet!
    Thanks in advance,
    Brenda

Thank you, Barry. I realized after I did it that I was clicking on my reply and not the right posting, but I couldn't find a way to delete it. I'm not looking for points, just thought it would be helpful to others to know what solution solved my problem.
Thanks again for taking the time to help!
