I have a 2006 hyundai elantra hatchback and i want to install a Sony CDXGT260MP head unit. What kind of wiring will I need to install it?

Good question! You are going to need a wiring harness for your specific car brand, model and year along with the speaker connectors. You should be able to look online for the wiring harness specific to your Hyundai then we can check with our install bay at a store to see if we have that one in stock. What crutchfield will sometimes do is throw in the steering control module. However, I am sure that they are listing the GMOS-14 as the harness you have mentioned. This harness retains the Bose/OnStar/RSE (rear seat entertainment) in your vehicle. At BBY, we can also order this harness for you at a cost of $112.98 and then also sell you the ASWC add-on for the steering controls at $99.99. If you buy the ASWC from us, we package our labor with it. This means rather than paying $100 for the module and $60 for the install, you will pay $120 total for steering control functions. With these parts along with the Dash Kit and Antenna Adapter you need, all of your product can be installed in your vehicle without losing any current functionality. Bypassing your bose amp is generally not necessary as long as it is in good working order along with the speakers. To buy the parts and labor from BBY would put you just under $400 for everything if you brought your own Mobile Video Unit. If you brought us the parts and just wanted to pay the labor charges, you would be looking at an ESTIMATE: $165.

i bought it for the iPod interface.
anyway I'm looking to have this

Without knowing the brand and specs, it would be difficult to estimate. I would recommend that you stop by your nearest Best Buy and talk to the install bay techs to see what’s all involved. They will be able to give you a better cost estimate. Good luck and thanks for posting!

Sony Head Unit and iPod Issue

I just got the Sony Xplod CDX GT620IP head unit installed the other day and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem is that I have the iPod Ready Feature (allows you to control iPod through the head unit). I plan on keeping an iPod in the glove compartment so that I have a hard drive full of music waiting in the car. However, when I turn the head unit and car off, the iPod is in the idle state, but displays "You may safely disconnect the device" even though the head unit no longer powers the iPod. When everything is off, the iPod will remain on until the battery dies out or if it's unplugged. I don't want to unplug the iPod, I just want it to shut down when the unit is turned off. Is there a way to fix this?
EDIT: I have an iPod Nano, iPod Video, and the iPod touch, all of which experience the same problems (not turning off).If you have solutions for any of them, I'd be happy to know. Thanks in advance.

Just signed up to these forums having done a google search for this same problem! I'm in the UK and this is affecting my 2008 CDE-9880R in exactly the same way Adrian describes - highly annoying having purchased this unit to avoid this kind of problem! So much for an Alpine/Apple collaboration!
I am currently resorting to the 'pause' function on the headunit before keying off the ignition. Although I spoke to an Alpine tech guy at Alpine UK on the phone today and he is sending out another small lead that apparently goes inline with the current lead. He mentioned something about the headunit not recognising 80gb classics properly??? Not sure whether this will fix the problem but I'll keep you posted. I think a firmware issue is more likely to be the problem. At least Alpine seem to be aware of the problem and not just fobbing people off.

IPod Touch no longer working with car Head Unit since update

Hi there, I have a problem with using my iPod Touch with my car's head unit.
I've been using my iPod Touch with the Alpine IDA X001 Head unit fitted in my car for the last 3 months without any problems, however I installed the latest software update for the Touch (v4.0) and now the head unit connects and then says no USB device. At first I thought it was the cable as the cable supplied with the head unit is pretty fragile, so I've replaced it with a new one but it still doesn't work.
I've tested with my iPod Nano and it works perfectly so its not a problem with the head unit or lead (I plugged the Touch in and it didn't work, plugged the Nano in and worked perfectly and then plugged the Touch in and didn't work).
Can anyone help or is it gonna be a case of Restoring the iPod Touch back to factory settings ????

I was also having this problem with my Kenwood car stereo. I went into the store and they did a complete restore. I didn't think it worked but the next time I plugged it into my usb to connect with my car stereo it worked. So you might try doing a restore.

IPod Touch no longer compatible with Pioneer head unit?

Recently installed the newest iTouch software. Before the update I had no issues playing songs from my ipod through my car CD player via usb. Pioneer Premier DEH-P400UB is the model I am using.
Now that I have installed the update, when I plug the ipod in the CD player displays "NO MUSIC." The ipod reads "accessory attached," as it always has.
Anyone else have this issue with their head units? Any brand.

I am so frustrated. I have a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD and my i-pod touch worked pretty much perfectly with it until I clicked to update the OS to 4.1. Now it is a disaster, slow screen changes, constantly cutting out music. What a joke. My stereo and i-pod are basically useless now thanks to that idiotic 4.1 "upgrade". What is Apple doing putting some buggy piece of crap update out there that basically ruins your i-pod touch? Geez.

does bestbuy still do this? i usually check up on the ads every week and before, there would be a deal where if you buy the head unit from bestbuy, they would include installation for no charge? ive been wanting to install a doubledin head unit in my car recently, and have just been waiting for that deal to pop up again. does anyone know if they stopped running this deal?

Need an affordable aftermarker HEAD UNIT -- advice needed!

My budget for the head-unit itself is nothing over 100 before all of the install/etcs.
Also, I was wondering what your input is on if I should get speakers to go along with the new head unit. I have an '04 Honda CRV.

I like Pioneer and Alpine. I wouldn't buy anything except them. Stay away from Sony.
Do you have the stock speakers now? If so, replace all your speakers. Otherwise, you'll notice the new speakers, which isn't what you want.

How do I get my ipod shuffle/nano to play music in my 2009 hyundai elantra's ipod usb port? It reads the device (ipod) and says its "empty"?

I have a 2009 hyundai elantra with an ipod usb port, when I try to hook up my shuffle with its usb connector to my car, the stereo dashboard says its reading the device and then says the device is empty...therefore no music gets played or heard. What am I doing wrong? Or is there some sort of cable i need to be using with my ipod to get it to play in my car?Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either you have accidently posted this in the wrong forum (this is the LiveType discussion board), or the fora are screwing up again (if they ever stopped). To answer your question, though, you need some kind of converter that will export only the audio. I'm sure there are many free solutions out there, but not being familiar with Windows, the only one I know off the top of my head is Quicktime Pro ($30).
Either way, your iPod problems shouldn't be affecting your caps lock key.

Navigation module for 701HD head unit?

I know the Nav XA-NV100T navigation module has been discontinued. Is there something else coming down the pipe to replace it? Also, are there any plans on the horizon for a new line of head units? I have one installed in my gf's car but I'm hesitant to get one for my own until some of the issues are resolved.

I apologize if you feel that way. However, the XA-NV100T navigation module is no longer available.
If you want to utilize the system for navigational purposes, you can either use a phone that has MirrorLink capabilities or you can use the Telenav application.

head unit going into a boat...the ground wire is supposed to be screwed into the metal chassis, only its a boat. What do I do?

Head unit

I purchased a Kenwood KDC-MP242 head unit. Installed new speakers also old radio was working fine with new speakers. Insalled new head unit and get no sound at all from radio or cd. What is problem?

You bought a product, and refused installation on it. Now you've had a problem while installing it, and are trying to get for free what you otherwise would've paid for. When you pay for installation, you are paying for both labor and expertise. If you refuse installation, you must provide both.
Think of it this way: if you were a mechanic, would you constantly give free help to customers who called in while fixing things? No, because you'd lose thousands of dollars.

Ck-7W & Audio Head Units

I have a CK-7W installed with cradle connected to my CD head-unit. It seems to work slightly differently to my old Carkit in that:
The old carkit would ignore keytones and only mute the stereo when a call came in or I pressed the green call button on my phone.
The CK-7W mutes the stereo whenever I touch a button on the phone (most annoying).
Is this the CK-7W doing this or is it the additional head-unit wiring curcuit doing this?
What's the easiest way to get the CK-7W to just mute on calls? (if poosible).

This is an issue with your phone not the car kit, what phone do you have?. Most of the phones i have fitted with a CK-7W have the facility to turn off keypad tones, Try changing you handsfree prfile to a different one to general and then try setting tones off.

Is there a way to roll back one specific firmware w'update'?
I accepted the new firmware update about 10 days ago..and I now have to 'reset / restart' my iPod 8 GB nano EVERY DAY...my Alpine head unit will just go into a 'searching' mode until I restart it...
