2006 iMac Desktop computer won't turn on?

My Mac desktop computer from 2006 won't turn on. I tried unplugging it and re-trying and that didn't work. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix it?
One time, we brought it in to the apple store and it turned on there so they didn't fix it. Sometimes it turns on randomly after a lot of tries, but now it hasn't turned on for a while. Usually we leave it on, but we had to turn it off because the power was about to go off.
     Thank you!!

Hopefully something here will cast some light:

Sorry, your only alternative is to take it in for repair. While on your way stop at a office supply store and look into a UPS. if you don't want to go to the Apple Store you can use an AASP, you can locate one in your area by clicking AASP Locator.

  • My mac desktop computer won't turn on how can I know what's wrong with it?

It won't make the start up noise at all. Also the screen won't light. All I hear is a click noise when I click the power button. I've tried connecting it to other power outlets yet it still won't work?

  • Computer won't turn on and the power cord doesn't light up

My problem with the computer is that it will not turn on. The battery is fully charged, power cord is plugged into a working outlet. I have held down the power button for 10 second or even longer. Nothing turns it on and the power cord doesn't light up at all. Any thing will help.
    Thanks

First, check that your AC outlet has power. Second, see this article: Intel-based iMac- What to do if your computer won't turn on and this one Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC).

  • HP OMNI 120-1132 DESKTOP PC- won't turn on

    Ok,
So my computer won't turn on. I plug it it, my led indicators flashes for a while (about 15 minutes) along with my power on button (it flashes blue and amber). After about 15 minutes the green led stays solid and the computer remains off. Then when I try to start it, it all starts flashing over again. My ac adaptor isn't warm until it blinks. I have followed the trouble shooting guides. I have unplugged it, plugged it into the wall, held the button, unplugged, plugged again. It just keeps repeating. Is it my power cord? Or do I have a bigger problem?

  • The CRT won't come on and the computer won't turn off. ???

    Hi all,
I just got another free Rev. A iMac CRT today - it was in an old, abandoned school and the people who were moving everything out of the school thought it was dead, so they gave it to me. I tried starting it up, and it wouldn't turn on. When I took off the back to see if it had any good parts in it, it turned out everything was unplugged in the back, so I plugged it all back it. It worked great, I was deleting the school's files and apps so I could sell it, until a few minutes ago when I tried to wake it up from sleep. The display just wouldn't come on. I though it just wasn't waking up. I tried typing on the keyboard and clicking the mouse, and I finally pressed the power button on the keyboard, when I heard the normal beep it makes when you press the power button on the keyboard and it gives you the dialogue box "Do you wanna turn it off, restart it, etc?" I thought, "this is weird, why isn't the display on?" So I pressed the enter key, figuring that Turn Off was the option selected and that the display would come on when I turned it back on. Sure nuff, the computer turned off. I waited a few seconds and turned it back on. The display still wouldn't come on. I waited a few minutes til I was sure it was all the way booted up. It won't respond to the keyboard, the mouse, repeated jabs in the reset button on the side, or the power buttons on both the unit and the keyboard. I held down the power button for an entire minute and the display won't turn on and the computer won't turn off.
This is totally bizzare. Does anyone know how to a) turn on the display or b) turn off the computer? It's looking like I'm going to have to unplug it and try again later.
By the way, it's running 9.2.2, like the one in my signature line.

I finally pulled the plug and restarted and it's working fine now. Does anyone know what happened? I think it could've had something to do with the PRAM battery; every time I've started it up it's said the date is January 1956 and the time is 9:55. hmmm...
Edit: I just realized that in addition to the date being 1956, the hard drive was completely randomly renamed to "k hortdpc." ***???
Another edit: I just realized I probably renamed the hard drive in my frantic random clicking and typing - I probably accidentally clicked the hard drive name and randomly typed a new name in my attempts to wake up the computer. oops

  • IMac G5 (PowerPC) won't turn on

    Hi there,
My old iMac G5 (PowerPC) won't turn on. Its been having problems for about a month where it would randomly turn off (not shut down, but completely turn off). It would also take about 3 or 4 tries before it would start up. Now I can't even get the computer to turn on at all.
I've created a bootable start up disk, but that's essentially useless until I can get the computer to power up.
I've tried unplugging all peripherals and unplugging the power cord for 10 secs then starting up while holding the ON button on the back. It starts up for 1 sec, then cuts out again.
I've taken a look at the logic board. There are no bad caps.
Could it be some bad RAM? Could that prevent my computer starting up?
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!!

Add another IMac G5 to the dead. The only thing that happens with this system is LED 1 is green but LEDs 2,3,4 are all dark. There is no fan, no hard drive noise, no flash of light. Caps physically appear intact in both PS and Logic board. Hard drive removed, DVD drive removed, RAM reseated, switch checks out ok on an ohmmeter check. There is voltage across the power switch contacts but no reaction at all from the computer when the switch is closed. CMOS battery checks good with proper voltage.
I had two other systems that have bad caps, one in the PS and the other in the logic board. These were mixed to give me one good system and the other with both bad PS and LB. I have replacement caps to try to bring the salvaged system back to life but this third, totally dead system has no indications of what might be happening. Pushing both internal switches on the logic board, with AC attached and not attached, has no effect. All the standard key combos (Terminal, Single User, Safe Boot, Command X etc.) has no effect.
Anyone have a guess or suggestion?

    Hello Nousernamebrah
Well get get your music from your old computer to your new computer, the old computer would have to work and turn on to access the files to be copied over. You also can access any previous purchased music and download it to your new computer as well. Check out the articles below for more information.

  • Computer won't turn on HELP!

    Hi,
My computer won't turn on after a few hardware swaps I did.
    Parts :
    MSI Z77 Mpower, i5 3570k @ 4.0 Ghz, ATI HD4870, Gskill sniper low voltage 2x4gb 1600Mhz, Samsung 840 series 256gb (os), 2x ST4000DM000 (raid 1).
So here's what I did. I shut down the computer, I disconnected every wire with caution to wait for CL_CMOS LED to turn off before pulling the cord. I then switched my ram for Gskill Ares 2x8Gb 1866Mhz (occupying DIMM slots 2 and 4, same ones as my previous ram sticks) and switched my GPU for Asus R9 280x DCUII.
I reconnected everything, CL_CMOS LED powered on. When I pushed the power button, nothing. I pushed and pushed again but nothing happens. I noticed that CL_CMOS LED turns off after I try to push the ON button on my case. When I switch the power off, the LED remains off until it flashes briefly and turns off again.
I've tried putting my old parts back in 1 by 1 but it won't turn on again.
    Please help!
    edit : old ram timings (CL9-9-9-24, 1.25V) new ram timings (CL10-11-10-30, 1.5V)
edit2 : The lights on my new gpu's pcb were lit during this struggle. Power could come from the pcie adapters though.

As in Reply #1, keep that configuration and use the switch on the mainboard over to the other BIOS chip. For some reason, it sounds like the one chip may be corrupted or maybe the PSU has become faulty. Double check the security of the 24-pin and CPU power 8-pin connections.
Thanks for your help. I fixed the problem. I am a bit ashamed to say what was wrong but ... the 24 pin connector was loose on the psu side.
I figured it out after 2 days of disassembling/assembling computer and testing components.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Battery won't charge, computer won't turn on

My battery won't charge, even though the power adapter light is on as if charging. I've tried using other power dapaters of the same model, with the same results; no charge. Now the battery is dead and the computer won't turn on. Should I just get a new battery?

I tried resetting the PMU, before the battery totally ran out. Now I'm sure the battery is totally dead, but not sure if it will charge once I get a new battery. Looking at other postings, it sounds like the problem could be with the logic board.

My computer won't turn off.  It says iPhoto is doing something and iPhoto is doing nothing, the circle has been spinning for 45 minutes.

Try that. If that doesn't help:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
