2006 MacBook to tv- HELP!

I recently purchased an adapter for my Macbook, from 2006. I am not at all Mac savy and so I need some help on this, I am trying to hook my computer up to my TV. I got an adapter (mini display port to HDMI) that some store on amazon said would be compatible to my Macbook, but when I went to hook it up, the plug fits, but it doesnt seem like a perfect fit. The input on the Mac has a corner on the left side, but the plug is perfectly rectangular (as you can see) therefore it does not fit. And its not a wire issue because I even went to system preferences and displays and then detect mode and the adapter was not even registering. Anyway, any tips on either a.) how to get this plug to work and so I can see it show up on my TV, or b.) what other adapter I should get.....
I read that this early version of this Macbook's display port does not support Audio so I have to get a separate plug for that. Also, I think this is the first displayport that Apple made but honestly I am just so confused. Help please!

Depends on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI (Not Mini DisplayPort) adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini-DVI adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13
(Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.)
You'll also need audio cables to the TV if you use VGA, DVI, or Composite using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs.
The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.

  • I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I tried to do a reinstall of Tiger 10.4.5 from my start up disk.  I get an error that states "can't install on this computer." HELP

I replaced my hard drive on my late 2006 Macbook Pro.  I used the disk utility and erased the drive and formatted it to OSX Journaled .  When I tried to install the OS from the start up disks I got the error "Can't install on this computer.  I have verified the drive.
I have used Super Duper to copy my old drive to my new drive.  But I wanted to do a fresh install.  How do I go about this?

Did you do the Super Duper clone before you tried to reinstall the OS? If so, the original install disc is likely earlier than 10.4.11, and that may be why you are getting the message.
When trying to reinstall the OS, did you select the "Archive and Install" option? If not, you might try that. Here's a link that might help:

  • Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, for tv hook up.

Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, to hook up to tv for streaming. The display works through VGA but the audio isn't working. Got a plug that goes into headphone jack on computer and connects into the audio jack on the back of tv but no sound. I'm not quite sure what the issue is, whether its the wrong plug, the tv, or the computer. Best Buy says this is the right plug and it seems that it would be, but who knows. If anyone has any experience in this, I would appreciate the help!

Make sure those audio plugs are matched with the VGA plug. With your MacBook running something with audio switch between your sources on the TV Component, Composite and such. See if the sound is coming from another source. If so then you've got your audio plugs in the wrong jacks.
Also could you post the make and model number of your TV.

  • Need help migrating 2006 Macbook Pro to 2012 Macbook Pro

Hi -- The screen on my 2006 Macbook Pro (running 10.9.2) completely stopped working last weekend. It doesn't light up at all. I've tried everything under the sun to get it functioning again but I believe it is just totally dead. I tried plugging an external monitor, mouse and keyboard into it and cannot get it to show up on the screen, which is driving me crazy! The monitor works just fine with my 2011 Mac Mini (running 10.6.8). I have been able to access the hard drive via target disk mode using the Mini and copy all of the files onto an external drive, which brings me relief that not everything is lost. I tried to boot the drive in startup manager on the Mini to do a Time Machine backup and the Mini didn't even enter startup manager. It just completely ignored the fact that I was pressing the Alt key at startup and proceeded to login normally! I have tried it several times and no dice. I'm feeling frustrated! Argh! Am I doing something wrong? Am I crazy? Anyways...
I bought a refurbished 2012 Macbook Pro and I would like to transfer all of my applications from the 2006 using migration assistant but I've read that some of them might not transfer correctly, such as Adobe CS6 suite and Final Cut Pro X. Unfortunately, I don't have the disks for these applications. Am I totally out of luck or is there a way to do this that I haven't seen yet? I'm willing to try anything at this point. Another question I have is will a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter work with my 2006 MacBook Pro?
If you have any insights on how to transfer all of my stuff over, I would very much appreciate it. Thank you!

Yep, it was in target disk mode. I don't have a thunderbolt-firewire adapter, but I'm going to get one and try that -- I honestly wasn't sure if it would even work with my older Mac. I ran migration assistant with the Macbook Pro 2006 in target disk mode connected to the 2012 with an ethernet cable and it didn't find the drive.
So there's really no way for me to gather all of the various folders for FCP and put them on the new Mac?

  • Is it possible to install an OCZ 60gig sata3 ssd in my late 2006 macbook?

Hi, im a novice mac user and I just picked up a late 2006 macbook off ebay and I couldn't help but wonder if there is some way to remove the 120gig 5400rpm sata2 drive it came with for a nice modern OCZ vertex III 60gig sata3 SSD WITHOUT rendering the laptop unstable or otherwise unreliable as im not interested in my non-gaming computer failing at random. Also how would I go about transfering everything from the current hard drive to the new SSD if its even possible for me to install one? Its specs are 1.5 gigs 667 MHz DDR2 ram, 2 GHz Core duo(OCed if this matters), OSx 10.6.8. Thanks.

Your MacBook has a SATA I interface not SATA II. SATA is supposed to be backwards compatible but not all drives play nice with all computers and I don't know about OCZ's SATA III working on a Mac with SATA I. Unless you already have the drive I would recommend a look at OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/ They're a Mac specialist that can sell you a SATA II drive for reasonable that is guaranteed to work with your MacBook.

  • How can I connect an older Realistic stereo mixer to my 2006 Macbook?

I am a musician and producer and just got "LiveWire CMR-210" cords at Guitar Center today. One is gray and the other is red, and the end has a jack that can connect to your headphone jack or line-in on your computer. I also have a Realistic stereo mixer, it's a little bit older, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be able to connect to computers. My laptop is a 2006 Macbook running Snow Leopard. I would like to know how to connect my mixer to my Macbook and use it with VirtualDJ and Garageband, and if possible use it in iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your help. I'm new to Macs but I love my Mac so much already after learning how to use them.

Upgrade Office to Office 2011 for OS X. You can download a trial at www.mactopia.com. Old versions of iWork boxed sets can be found searching Amazon, eBay, or Google.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Windows 7 RC 64bit on 2006 MacBook.

    I have a late 2006 MacBook. 2.0 core2duo, 2GB ram, 160GB HD.
    Last week I was running:
    10.5 Leopard - 140GB
    Windows 7 Beta 64bit- 20GB
when I installed the beta, I had loads of grief getting hold of 64bit drivers.
I can't remember where I got them from but I have lost them.
On friday when I installed snow leopard I erased my entire HD.
    Expecting to setup like this:
    10.6 Snow Leopard - 135GB
    Windows 7 RC 64bit - 25GB
snow leopard went on ok. When I came to windows 7 it started messing me around and wouldn't een start the installer, giving me a message to select my boot type that I couldn't do. I googled it and fixed it.
Today, I installed it. And started to try and put the drivers on.
I have inserted my snow leopard disk, and it says, that my mac is not compatible.
So I explored the disk, and went too the drivers folder. In it I found manufacturers names, with 32 and 64 bit drivers. In the apple folder, I opened a 64bit folder and manually installed all the drivers for Bluetooth, trackpad, ect.
Except the bootcamp software, the bit that allows you to dim your screen with the keyboard, ect. I presume this is where you install the software that lets you have read only access to your mac drive, an advertised point of snow leopard.
Anyway, when clicking either the 64bit or the 32bit, it just says, that you must start it from setup.exe, but setup.exe says it isn't compatible.
    What do I do?
I thought about reinstalling the old 2.1 drivers, I think they came from a mac pro bundled restore disk, (if anyone could send me the file that would be great: [email protected]) But I thought about then updating them, because if I ran the snow leopard disk maybe it would see them
    and think it was 64bit?
    Any help appreciated
    thanks guys!
    Joe

It appears your MacBook is not compatible with 64 bit Windows. Perhaps you would have better luck with the supported 32 bit version of Windows.
These Mac computers can use 64-bit editions of Windows Vista:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008) and later
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008) and later
Mac Pro (Early 2008) and later

  • Mid 2006 Macbook Pro won't boot (from HD or optical)

My mid 2006 Macbook Pro will not boot from the hard disk, or from the internal DVD. I am currently running the latest version of Lion (10.7).
I tried searching the forums and found a similar issue here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1687899?start=0&tstart=0
But that was with a Mac Mini. And it doesn't look like the OP issue was ever resolved. I am having the exact same problem.
When attempting a normal boot from the internal HD of the Macbook Pro. It will make the happy chime of a successful POST. It will display the Apple logo. And that's as far as she gets.
No spinning wheel, no error image, no nothing. Eventually the system will start spinning up the fans as if it were under load (this was after about a half hour of just letting it sit there).
Doing a verbose boot, it never went past this:
    com.apple.driver.Apple.IntelCPUPowerManagement
    Photo of verbose boot:
    Here's what I've tried.
    1. Bought a brand new battery (as the current one was at death's door)
    2. Zapped PRAM (Apple + Option + P + R)
    3. Reset SMC according to these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
    4. Attempted to boot to my original Tiger (10.4) install DVD, only to stop at this point during a verbose boot (Apple V):

    5. I am able to put her in Target Disk Mode (hold T at boot). Then with a firewire cable I can connect it to my wife's Macbook 13" and I am able to run disk utility on it! Disk Utility did find and repair errors, however, it still refuses to boot.
    6. I attempted to boot from my wife's Macbook 13" in Target Disk Mode. I put her machine in Target disk mode. Connected the firewire cable. Powered on my 15" MBP while holding the option key. Then I selected her drive as the boot disk... however it still refuses to boot even from a known working HD.
    7. Finally, I swapped around RAM DIMMs with no change in behavior.
Help! I know she's an older gal (Laptop is 6 years old now) but I'm not exactly flush with cash and would rather not give up on her just yet.

My Mac started freezing (colored pinwheel) every time I tried using any application (i.e. Safari, iPhoto). After restarting for the 2nd time, it would no longer boot - makes start up sound but gets stuck on gray screen w/ apple icon.  I tried resetting PRAM also - did nothing. I decided to reinstall OS; problem now is my HD is nowhere to be found! I am a tech dummy so this is way beyond my comprehension...I'm not seeing my HD from the Disk Utility either???
Side question...I backed up my files (mostly pics JPEG and videos) on DVD (had to compress to save). Why can't I open files on PC?

  • 2006 Macbook running 10.6.8 shuts down without warning

It's a 2006 Macbook (I bought new in 06) running os x 10.6.8.  Up until 6 months ago no problems what so ever with the computer.  I would be working and every once in a while, it would just shut down.  Replaced the battery less than a year ago.  Power supply (60w charger) had a short, so I replaced that about a week ago.  Computer is still shutting down without warning.  I did the 1.1 update on the OSX but it still acts up.  I'm lucky to be able to use the computer right now (it's been running for 20 minutes...this time).  Would it help if I upgraded to LION, or would it still do it then?  Any help please...I'm a musician and it's my livelyhood.
    Thanks,
    David

When a Mac shuts down without warning, it's doubtful an upgrade will be the fix. You need to find out what's causing the problem.
    Check the startup disk.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart the Mac while inserting the install disc and holding down the C key simultaneously. From there you should be able to repair the startup disk.
No errors were found, run the Apple Hardware Test >  Using Apple Hardware Test
If installed, anti virus software can cause system anomalies such as an unexpected shut down.

  • Can i add a solid state drive to my late 2006 macbook

Got a dumb amateur question. I have a 120g hard drive in my late 2006 macbook and two 2 one gig memory cards upgraded from apple when purchased. Can i upgrade to a SSD and more memory on this mac? Can it be done on a amateur level. Is it worth it?

You should be able to upgrade the memory to as much as 3GB by installing
one 2-GB RAM, and one 1-GB RAM for that grand total combined amount.
If your computer is really a MacBook Pro model, the numbers will vary.
This is a little bit more than the 2GB total officially recognized; some users
had installed two 2-GB RAM chips, but seldom evidence the extra 1GB.
•MacBook: How to remove or install memory - Apple Support
A place to check on slower style SSD upgrade parts for older Macs may be
OWC macsales.com, as they have some that are about the data rate of
the older early MacBook computers. Faster ones would be a waste, though
some are backward compatible to slow computer data transfer rates.
Also check the OWC for memory. They have RAM based on the correct identify
of the computer in question and have a good reputation among Apple users.
There are instructions in their site (free/video) on how to install an SSD. To use
an external HD enclosure is a suggested method to get the SSD ready, prior to
attempt to install; then it can be less troublesome. Back up your original HDD
and system content. If desired, you may be able to use a clone or disk image.
The iFixit.com repair guides (specific to various models) can be a helpful way
to look into steps on how to replace and upgrade Mac computers. They're free.
    {There were no replies here when I started... or I wouldn't have bothered}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why is my early 2006 macbook crashing after upgrading ram?

I've got a black early 2006 Macbook. I recently upgraded the RAM from 1gb (two 512mb modules) to 2gb (two 1gb modules). I used Crucial brand RAM if that makes a difference.
Anyway, since I upgraded, rather than being able to keep more windows open without the computer slowing down, my screen is freezing up and while sometimes it give me eventual control again, many times it will just tell me to restart the computer. This happens when watching any sort of video either online or off a HD. I had a bunch of tabs open tonight with no video playing (but one video loading) and I had to restart the computer.
Can someone help me? Much appreciated.
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 BTW

FIrst thing I would do is running the Apple Hardware Test Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Could be you got a faulty RAM module.
If faulty contact Crucial for replacement.
Also check if the the modules are seated correctly and/or reseat them.

  • Im having problem with my macbook! please help!

the old harddrive in my 2006 macbook is fried, so i brought 120 Gb hdd to put it in. I follow youtubes way. When i put the recovery cd in it and click option buttom, then it boot up the recovery cd, but somehow it says "mac os x cannot install in this system" I couldnt remember the exact what it say, but may i ask why? how? please help me!

    Hello
You probably need to reformat the drive. Boot from the installer again, and go through the first screen (choose your language), then go to the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Select your new drive on the left. Click on the "top level" of the drive (where you see the drive model number, not the name below it), and make sure that "Partition Map Scheme" at the bottom of the screen says "GUID Partition Scheme".
If not, go to Partition, set up 1 partition and name it, choose "Mac Extended (Journaled)", click Options, choose GUID, and click Partition.
If the partition scheme is already set to GUID, go to the Erase tab and reformat the drive as Mac Extended (Journaled). Then try going through the rest of the installer.

  • Installing factory settings on 2006 Macbook

I have been trying to set my aunts 2006 Macbook back to the factory settings. I put the CD that came with the computer in and I go through the steps but a window pops up for checking my installation CD and I haven't been able to go past that step. Help?

    Shut down the Mac.
Make sure the CD is inserted.
Startup the Mac while holding down the C key.
From there you should be able to access the utilities on the CD (disc) to reformat the startup disk. (factory settings).
When you post for assistance, it helpes to mention which OS X is installed.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.
