2007 CD2 mini - monitor & TV out?

Can a CD2 mini drive both a monitor and RCA video out without having to plug things in and out every time?
It doesn't matter if it mirrors or spans I am just wondering if I pick one up to replace a G4 tower that can do exactly this that a Mini would be able to have the same capability.

The 2007 series full size DVI only video connection models are only designed to support one monitor. There is no provision for using the video adapter to output RCA (or S-video, if you use the official Apple item) at the same time as using the regular DVI connection. If you were to use the DVI to VGA adapter, then use a VGA splitter device (I advise a powered one, not just a conductor splitting adapter), then feed one VGA signal into a converter to RCA connections, you could mirror your display. If that sound convoluted and potentially expensive, it is.
If you really want dual displays as you describe, you would be better served to get a newer mini with the mini-DVI and mini DisplayPort which can easily support two differing displays.

  • Mac Mini Monitor Blacking out

    Hey guys,
I have a 1.4ghz G4 Mac Mini and i recently purchased a samsung 205bw lcd display. I am running on the native resolution of 1680x1050 60hz refresh rate (the recommended settings for the monitor)
Overall, the monitor works great until i try to watch video fullscreen. For some reason in VLC or Quicktime, after a while the screen begins to flicker than turns black. I ran every diagnostic that samsung has and there is apparently nothing physically wrong with the monitor. I was wondering. I downloaded SwitchResX but i wasnt sure which settings to change if anyone had any ideas..
    thanx in advance

Got a Samsung SyncMaster 204B and having problems with a Belkin DVI/USB KVM switch. When switching form PC (WinXP) to mac mini I often get this blackout/flickering you all mentioned
Apple has to do something about that.

  • Why is my 2007 HP V17 monitor screen flickering and going black?

I have an old  2007 HP V17 monitor attached with a VGA cable to an early 2008 Macbook running on OS 10.6.8 software  via a  DVI- mini connector (this is also my desktop computer).
About 6 months ago, the HP display started going white and sometimes gray for a few seconds before the image would return, and a couple of times I had to unplug it and restart the Macbook before it came back.  I followed Apple's instructions for testing whether the problem was in the computer  (= resetting the system by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC), but the computer tested okay.  I then purchased a new VGA cable and DVI-mini connector, but the problem persisted.
Today the HP screen suddenly went black (first time going black) and stayed black.   The power button stayed lit and if I pressed the Volume or Auto buttons, the "Volume" etc. message boxes did appear, so the device's backlight is apparently working and not burnt out (unless the backlight has nothing to do with the message boxes showing up, which for all I know may be the case).  However, the Desktop showed up only on the Macbook.
I checked all the connections, removed the DVI connector and plugged it back into the Macbook several times, but the HP screen stayed black, so I removed the DVI connector in order to type this message on the Macbook.  Then, as I was writing this, I decided to plug it back into the Macbook one more time--and sure enough, the display is back!
I love this monitor, which is the perfect size and ergonomic height for my setup, so I'd hate to have to replace it.  Can anyone tell me
Given the information above, what's the probable reason for the flickering and going to black?  If it's the computer, what could it be?  Can I solve this problem myself? (See above; I couldn't find any other ways to test the computer in the Apple articles database.)
If not, could a monitor this old  be repaired?
If so, how much would repairing it cost, since buying a new monitor that I probably wouldn't like as much would cost upwards of $300?
Thanks so much for any advice out there!

I understand that your HP V17 Monitor has gone black and is not displaying anything. I am providing you with some steps for you to try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the issue persists after this you can try the monitor on another computer to see if it continues. If it does it appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

  • New MBP mini Display Port out to TV (HDMI) not working

Sorry, I just realized I put this in the Original Folder not the Late 2008 folder.
I bought a new MBP 2.4 GHz, 4 GBs RAM machine in January of this year, 2009. Model Identifier 5,1. I wanted to connect it to my TV's HDMI port. Only interested in getting video to TV since I run sound through a sound system. I have been using my MacBook Air's DVI adapter to a DVi - HDMI cable. I have a Sony Bravia 40 HD tv. Video works just fine from my MBAir, can change resolutions to anything and video works perfectly (audio has a little problem though - high frequency hum out of the MBAir's audio port). That's why I want to change to my MB Pro - audio from the New MBP is good.
With my new MBP, using it's Mini out- DVi connector and using the Same Video (HDMI) cable that I used with my MBAir - it doesn't work. The Display Preference does not detect the TV ever. I just get a black screen on the TV. Not even a flash on the TV like it's trying to connect - nothing.
I can pull the cable out of my MBP 2.4 and swap the DVi connector to the MBAir's cable and put it in the MBAir and it works just fine. Swap it back to the new MBP and nothing.
I have tried two different MBP Mini DVI out connectors, thinking one was bad. I even took the connector I use with the MBAir with me to the Apple Store to have them match the connectors, so I would be assured that I got the correct one. Oh by the way, my MBAir is the original one, not the newest one.
I have read a lot of links on the website where people are having trouble with Monitors using the new MBP Mini DVI video out but could not find any thread that matched my TV problem.
Any suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
Just to clarify, you state that you have a MacBookPro5,1, which is the late 2008 model. The video output on that model is a mini-DisplayPort, not a mini-DVI (like the pre-unibody MacBooks) or a micro-DVI (like your 1st gen MBA). DisplayPort is a different type of port. (Note - I requested an edit of the title of your post to clarify that).
When you connect the TV, in what sequence are you connecting? The 'proper' sequence is to connect the DVI-HDMI cable to the mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter, have the HDMI end connected to the TV, have the TV set to Line-In, looking for a signal, then connect to the MBP last.
What happens when you connect it like that? Have you tried System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays?

  • PP CC 2014.2 no longer will Playback to Blackmagic Design Mini Monitor. But CC and CC 2014.1 did.

The latest update to Premiere Pro has created problems. Sequences are frozen from playing and there is no video out to the broadcast monitor. If "Enable Mercury Transmit" is turned off then the timeline will play.  There is not a problem with the Blackmagic Mini Monitor as it works fine with AE CC 2014.2 or with Premiere Pro CC. And it worked fine with Premiere Pro CC 2014. Of course we can't use PP CC to open any projects created since updating to CC 2014. We are editing commercials and must have broadcast monitoring.  PLEASE HELP. AGENCY COMING IN TOMORROW FOR EDIT SESSION!
Also, another odd problem is that in this version when I open an existing project, it opens with random older sequences instead of what was open when it was saved/closed. This never happened in other versions.

I experienced the same problem. Try the following:
    1) Uninstall BlackMagic Design Desktop Video and Drivers completely.
    2) Reboot to finalize uninstall.
    3) Install old BlackMagic Design Desktop Video v.10.1.4.
    4) Restart
In my case rolling back to v10.1.4 helped to solve the problem.
Please report here if this works all right.
I am not sure who to blame: Adobe for their update or  BlackMagic Design for a buggy driver.

  • Help with PPro CC 2014.1 and Blackmagic Mini Monitor

    Hello everyone
I just installed a Decklink Mini Monitor card for use with Premiere Pro CC 2014.1. I installed the latest card drivers and updates and all is working fine. I set Premiere playback settings to Blackmagic output, navigated to the Blackmagic control panel and set default video standard to 1080 50i and then I created a new Blackmagic YUV 720p 50p project. The footage used in my project is 720 50p and 1080 50i. What puzzles me is that although I have output for both the above formats when either is placed on the timeline (program monitor) I only get preview of the source monitor when the footage loaded to it is 1080 50i, no external preview of any other footage, not even 720 50p. Any ideas on this? I even tried switching default video standard output to 720 50p with no luck and I get the feeling it's a Premiere issue, because the footage loaded to the source monitor on both Avid's MC 8 and Grass Valley's Edius 7 works jist fine. Any help will be greatly appreciated :-)

Ok, since I found the solution, I felt I should share. It turns out the problem was from withim PPro. I had to navigate to Edit > Preferences > Playback, then go to the Blackmagic Setup option and select either "Scale to fit" or "Centered" at the "unsupported format" option.

  • Monitor wigging out; lines and weird layers; Software or Hardware?

Monitor wigging out; lines and weird layers jiggle and shake back and forth.
iMac will only run a few minutes before it happens.
I am ran Apple Hardware Test and everything checked out OK and my iMac ran flawlessly for hours after AHT, then I restarted it and BAM!! there it is again only worse.
    Could this a software issue?
    Any ideas??

same thing here....was fine one min, then i come back after the screen saver came on, and it wouldn't respond. It wasn't responding so I had no option but to force shutdown. Turned it back on and the screen went wacky on me. Now it'll start up, but won't make it to my desktop. I can access it via afp (file sharing) but not VNC (screen sharing). Somebody help please! this is my second Mac to go bad and I'm starting to get really disappointed.

  • BlackMagic Decklink Mini Monitor - how to output Source signal?

    Dear PrP users,
I currently purchased a Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor video I/O to use with PP CC and SG CC as well as Da Vinci Resolve 9/10 once I move onto it; nothing too fancy which I'm fine with the kind of grading work I do. I did this so I could have a maximum of 4 computer monitors whilst I grade on my GPU then the additional output for the Director/Client.
However I did not know upon purchase that it only outputs the Canvas/Timeline (Program) from Premiere Pro. Before I would have my big TV output not only the Canvas (Program) but also the Viewer (Source) so I could show the Director/Client a clip from the browser without having to drop it into the timeline. This was a super useful feature and I am hoping to use this to Decklink Mini Monitor through premiere pro (as that is what I do primarily) that will both do Source and Program signals from PP CC. Is there a way to do that? Can it be done?
I will of course go on BlackMagic forums also to find out, but thought I'd try here also just incase.
    Thank you.

You're right, I can output the Source monitor too however it will only output 1080p (I found this out my playing ProRes 1080p through the Source). The material I'm working with is r3d 4k, of which I am working in a 1080p timeline (down scaled and down sampled) which outputs the Program to the Blackmagic DeckLink just fine, when I try to put the same material in a 4k timeline it refuses to play it. Thus, the Browser and conversely the Source monitor has no choice but to output the r3d 4k in its native resolution (unless there is a way to non-destructively output the r3d 4k Source as 1080p also)?
Any solutions? Is it the video card itself (its BlackMagic cheapest model) which limited to 1080p or the TV itself I'm using?
    Thank you for your advice.

  • FCP video monitoring through AJA's T-Tap or  UltraStudio Mini Monitor

    Hello,
I'm working with dailies that are ProRes LT 2K resolution (2048 x 1152) for an offline cut. I'd like to use an HDTV 1080P for a video monitor (a regular HDTV, not a broadcast monitor). From what I understand, I can use either a T-Tap or an UltraStudio Mini Monitor converter to send video signals to the TV set from FCP.
Before I start buying this stuff, I just want to confirm with people on this forum who has experience with these set ups. My question has 2 parts:
    1. Does this set up work or do I need to get other gears? (FCP out to converter through Thunderbolt and HDMI to HDTV)
    2. I'm leaning toward the UltraStudio Mini Monitor mainly because of cost. I don't foresee getting a 2K monitor any time soon, so I wouldn't need the T-Tap for that purpose. However, since I'm working with 2K materials, and the HDTV is 1080P, can the Mini Studio convert (or down-res) it to 1080?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thien

I can only speak to the T-Tap...that's all I've tested.  It works great with FCP...and AJA works with 2K footage, scaling it down to 1080.  I'm not sure if the mini monitor does this, or if you need the Decklink 4K for that.
No other converters are needed.  That's all you need....either one.
I will say that AJA has a better track record of compatibility...they seem to be the first ones there with drivers for the new software and updates, and the most stable with edit systems.  And their tech support is top notch. That, to me, is worth the extra cost.
Contact Tech Support at AJA.com and ask them if it will work wiht 2K footage in FCP...they'll give you an answer.

  • Blackmagic mini monitor/Premiere CC Multicam

    Hi,
I am using premiere CC with a multicam project. I've used premiere before on smaller projects and tried the new CC with a bigger project. Nine Cameras all ex3. loved the fact that I didnt have to transcode but now I am regretting it.
So I am using a blackmagic mini monitor which is fine in composite mode. But when I switch to multicamera mode the monitor freaks out and loses sync/picture and if I switch back to the composite mode it finds itself again. to tell you the truth I found cs6 far more stable than CC. Why can't I get multicam playback on the black magic card? tested the same situation in Final Cut and it was fine so its not the card. Is there something I need to click/turn on or off or something to get playback?
It also freaks out and if i double click the multicam sequence to see the sequence in the source monitor.

I haven't seen or heard yet of this issue. I can output from the Multi-Camera monitor without issue from my Decklink HD Extreme 3D and Decklink 4K. I'll try to test on my UltraStudio 3D as well.
When you say the 'monitor freaks out' what does it do exactly?
Can you provide your system specs and also your monitor model number. Lastly can you include your frame rate and resolution of your media.
    Thanks!

  • 2 Monitors went out

Can my Desktop computer make my Monitor go out When the first monitor went out the power light was on but the screen was black. My Brother tried it on his computer and it was doing the same thing. I had hooked up on mine my old Monitor I hooked it up. It worked fine at first. But buy the next morning it was out. The power light won't even come on.
    Solved!

The odds of a computer causing a monitor to die are slim, usually there are other factors that cause this.

  • How to connect an external HD to a 2007 Mac Mini with FireWire

I have a 2007 Mac Mini with a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an 80 GB HD. I recently migrated to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.5) from Tiger (OS X 10.4.11). I purchased a 500 GB external HD from Seagate which I want to use to back up both my wife's notebook PC and my Apple. My Mac Mini has a Firewire 400 (6-pin) female connector on the back. The external HD can connect to a Mac via a Firewire 800 male 9-pin connector. How do I connect the male FW 800 9-pin to the female FW 400 6-pin port? This may sound obvious, but the solution is more challenging than I imagined. The 9- to 6-pin adaptors I've seen online combine a female 6-pin end with a male 9-pin end. I need the reverse of that (female 9-pin FW 800 to male 6-pin FW 400 adaptor)! I bought a 9- to 6-pin cable this week, but ended up with two male 9-pin plug ends, and no way to connect them. Is a solution available using FW, or should I bail and go with a USB 2.0 connection instead?

Most external firewire drives have removable cables that plug into "female" ports on the hard drive. Is the firewire cabling on your external drive different from this? (What is the model number of the external drive?)
If the cable is removeable, simply buy a 6-pin-to-9-pin firewire cable (male on both ends).
monoprice.com is a good place to find these cheaply and in the length you need.

  • I want to do output and input Surround Sound from my 2007 Mac Mini

I thought I could output my Mac Mini audio with a Toslink OUT connection, but it turns out my Mini only has a Toslink IN connection- God knows why. I wanted to use the Toslink out to connect to a receiver, which I'd hoped would process my stereo mp3's into Surround using Pro Logic IIx or other codec. But it seems I have to use a regular Y-cable from my Mini's audio out to my receiver's analog RCA in, and hope it does the decoding. Could I then plug it back into the audio in and have the mp3s in surround that I could record? Also, instead of a simple Y-cable, I could use my USB iMic line-out/in (and mic IN by flipping a switch) to go out of the computer into the receiver, which should provide higher quality sound, and eventually plan on using an Apogee Duet audio interface/controller to output the sound to the receiver with even higher quality- BUT STILL, can I then plug the receiver into the Mini's toslink audio in and then have surround versions of my mp3s and other audio being entered back into the Mini. I used to have a M-Audio Sonica theater which I lost which had surround formats including DTS up to 7.1 Surround (but not PL IIx I don't think) and still have the software disc that came with it, but think it is useless without the Sonica Theater hardware and speakers with a hardware amp/decoder such as 5.1 hardware/speaker systems previously sold by Klipsch and Alesis. And I assume my receiver can do a better job implementing surround on stereo sources anyway, I just need to be sure it can be fed back into the Mini audio input for recording. Finally, if and when I get the Apogee Duet (2-in, 2-out line and mic interface/DAW controllerpreset to control GarageBand/Logic, but capable of controlling most all other music software with included software called Maestro), I only have one Firewire input, but also want a Firewire HD- is it true I can daisy-link devices together to control many Firewire devices from one input?) Thank you so much for any info that could assist me.

If your mini is an Intel Core Duo 1.83 ghz model, it has optical audio out via a Toslink connector plugged into the audio output jack. You have to enable the optical output, and have a Toslink (optical audio) cable plugged in. Plug it all in then try setting your output with Audio MIDI Setup (in the Applications > Utilities folder).
