2007 imac wont recognize new ram

installed 2gb centon ddr2-667 memory in empty slot, supposed to be mac ready but computer does not change still says slot is empty? any suggestions?

Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
If you purchased RAM from any local computer or any electronics retailer, you bought incompatible and wrong RAM!
Return the RAM and get a full refund.
There are NO local electronics retailers that carry the proper Mac RAM.
Reliable and correct Mac RAM can only be purchased online.
FYI, your iMac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM.
Can only be purchased from OWC ( macsales.com).

  • Can I use the memory from my 2007 iMac in a new 2012 iMac?

Finally putting down my 2007 iMac and buying a 27" new iMac and I'm wondering what is worth salvaging from my old computer. I'm pretty certain that it has either a fan or thermal compound issue (it runs super hot) but I what about the RAM. Is it possible to use it in the new or should I just recycle the whole machine?

The old RAM won't be compatible with the new generation iMac, but you may be able to sell it privately quite easily.

  • Migration Assistant adn iMac wont recognize Target Disk Mode of iBook

Friend purchased a new iMac 20in and went to use Migration Assistnat to transfer from older iBook. Will call this iBook1
Following directions, he hooked up Firewire cable, rebooted iBook1 into Targe Disk Mode (TDM). New iMac would NOT recognize existance of TDM iBook1. So we began the following sequence of tests to isolate the problem.
    1) Using a second iBook2, hooked up original iBook1 in TDM to iBook2. The HD of iBook1 showed up on the desktop of iBook2 as it should, along with all the files inside of it. This verified that the cable was good and that the firewire port on the iBook1 was working as well as TDM on iBook1.
    2) We rebooted the iMac, restarted the Migration assitant and placed the iBook2 into TDM and connected them. Migration assistant worked, recognizing the iBook2 as it should. This verified that the iMAc firewire port and Migration assistant was again working fine. We also rebooted the iMac and hooked up the iBook2 in TDM w/o Migration assistant, and again it worked fine.
    3) We then tried to connect the iBook1 via TDM to the iMac w/o migration assistant. Again NO RESULT.
No matter what we did, we could NOT get the new iMac to recognize the older iBook1 via firewire TDM. All other connections betwen the computers worked fine. All systems were running 10.4.10. We reset the PRAM, we fixed permisions, still the new iMac would not recognize the iBook1 in TDM.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem connecting my iBook G3 500 in Target Disk Mode to my new iMac, the icon does not show up on the iMac. I have tested the Firewire on both computers with a FW XHD and they work fine. I took the iBook in to work and connected it to an eMac and a ProBook Intel with no problems. Back home tonight and it still fails to show the icon of the iBook in TDM on the desktop of the new iMac. Suggestions on a fix ? Thank you.

  • My Imac wont recognize my log in password

    Hello?
I own an Imac with Leopard 10.5 (NOT Snow Leopard)...
Yesterday - I re-installed the 2 disks to try to clean up a bit the system...
(I've own the computer for 3 or 4 years, and I think it kinda needed it...)
It installed (took 2 hours) and all seemed well until - I went to log in...
I put in my pw (same pw since I bought the Imac) and it wont recognize it???
It wont recognize the master pw either...
What can I do - I live very far (200km) from an Apple store...
I will give all the points and stars to anyone who can help!!
I have a huge assignment to start this week...

If you think it is "root" then the fllowing tells you how to enable/disable root user using your admin password:
Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
And you can also change the root password from terminal using:
    sudo passwd root
Answer the prompt for your admin passoword (it won't be echoed) and then the other prompts.

  • Machine does not recognize new RAM

OK I purchases some RAM from crucial.com Here is what I bought:
CT442008 Upgrade for a Apple Power Mac G5 (Dual 2.3GHz DDR)
I installed the software but unfortunatelyUnfortunately, the machine does not recognize the new RAM. Both of the slots are listed as EMPTY. My question is -- is there anyway to tell whether I installed in right? Also, is this the correct RAM to buy? I'm a little confused - I would be happy if you could help!
    Thanks

    Hi,
You don't have this 2.3 do you? The Dual Core? If so you have the wrong RAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP37
If it's the right RAM for your machine make sure the side snaps are up when you put it in and press the RAM in firmly until you hear and see those snaps close down completely. Once your sure the RAM is seated well check again in System Profiler to see if it shows up.
If it doesn't, shut down your mac. As the Hatter said, start up your mac again and hold these keys down until you hear the chime for a second time: Command, Option, P, R. Four keys total until the second chime. Then when it starts up fully go back into System Profiler and see if it shows up.
If that still doesn't do it, shut down your Mac and pull the plug, open up your mac and touch one of those little back plates on the back where your video card is (static electricity) and press the PMU button as described on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1436
Remember sometimes it can take a good deal of pressure to seat RAM. Just don't go crazy. But first make sure, looking at the top article, that that isn't the model you have. If it is *do not* try to seat that RAM.

  • Imac wont recognize printers

ever since i installed lion my mac wont recognize my epson printer or my hp printer. no printing from ipad either.

You probably won't get any help unless you are more descriptive. At a bare minimum we need to know what version of Lion is installed on the iMac (10.7.2 is current), exactly what  printers you have and exactly how they are connected to your computer. Also please check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 to see if your model printers are supported. The first thing I'd do though is System Preference - Print & Scan - highlight the first  printer in the box on the left and right click it and choose Reset Printing System. It will look similar to:

  • Classic wont recognize new printer.

My boss just got a new printer - which can only be installed in OS X 10.2 or higher. Now - she has a program that only runs in Classic - OS 9 - and she needs to print, but Classic wont recognize the new printer.
I've found the article on how to share printers between the two - will that fix it - or do you need installation software for OS 9 as well - in which case the new printer can't be used to print from the older program.
    Thanks,
    -Brad
Ps. - The details below are my bosses details.

    Hello brad,
It would help if you list the model and make of the printer. I am new to X but have been reading that there are often work arounds for this type of situation. There may be an alternate driver. I have just started to read about "GIMP" printing which i think is like generic driver for many printers.
Start with the make and model and I feel confident others will offer more help. It is quite possible that there may be a workable solution........Jim

  • G5 DP 2.0 wont recognize new hard drive

I just installed a new Western Digital 750GB SATA hard drive into my G5 DP2.0 tower and it wont recognize it at all. Ive checked and double checked the connections and I can verify that the drive is powering up but the system profiler wont even see it, and neither will disk utility or my Tiger installation DVD. Did I just get unlucky and get a bad drive or am I completely missing something here?

They don't make it too easy do they?
I found this regarding jumper settings: Western Digital Support.
A bit ambiguous but I am fairly certain you want that jumper enabled. In that drawing they call it OPT1

  • Pavilion G7 wont recognize new hard drive

My old samsung 640 gig hard drive was failing in my G7laptop I bought in 2012. I bought a replacement 500 gig drive that was similar as the old one. After installing it and trying to run the HP supplied recovery discs it wont recognize the new drive. It starts to boot from the disc and then about 2 minutes later a a little window pops up that says no HDD installed and then shuts off. I boot into BIOS and try to run a HDD scan and it says no HDD installed. To troubleshoot to make sure the motherboard or SATA cable isn't bad I reinstalled my old HDD and was able to go into the HP UEFI and scan the old hard drive so that can't be the problem if it can recognize my old drive . I tried calling tech support and all I get is them trying to sell me a HP supplied drive which I don't need because in my technical mind there should be no difference in the drives. They are both SATA 3 and therefore compatible. Please help!

Thanks mbutler1981. Advance Format drives shouldn't be a problem for this computer, it is older one that you can run into issues with.
So basically you are trying to get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS. First verify the physical connections are solid, and in place.
The next thing to do when the new drive is connected is to perform a hard reset:  Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset
If you are unable to see the drive in the BIOS, verify that you have the latest version of BIOS using this for guidance:
Update the BIOS. If it is lower than version F.26 then you can update it: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors) Version F.26
If you are still having problems with this drive in this computer, the problem is either the drive itself, or a compatibility issue. The manufacturer of the drive might be able to confirm the final diagnosis.

  • G4 Quicksilver won't recognize new RAM

    Hi
I found a similar thread through searching the archives, but figured I should start a new one. I have a 2002 Quicksilver G4 with 1GB RAM running OSX 10.4, that still runs surprisingly well (at least compared to my PC). I wanted to max the RAM out to 1.5GM and upgrade to Leopard, so I bought a 512MB DIMM from RamDirect. I installed it and it doesn't work. I tried various combinations in the slots, still no go. I even placed it in Slot 0 as the only RAM DIMM and the computer wouldn't boot. I have the latest updates to everything, as far as I know. Here are my system specs below - DIMM2 shows empty whether the new RAM is installed or not.
RamDirect seems to be a reputable dealer, they've been around for a while. The Ebay auction lists the RAM as new, Apple-certified 512MB 64x64-75 3.3v PC133 SDRAM 168pin DIMM that is compatible with a variety of G4/G3 models shown on the page (including mine). It doesn't say anything about buffered or un-buffered. The new RAM looks exactly like mine, and is labeled Samsung PC133 Single Bank. My system profiler shows my RAM as PC133-333, no ECC reference, so I'm not sure what I have.
I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything before contacting RamDirect and saying that the RAM defective. I appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Barry

OS X is "picky" about RAM quality, so you may have gotten some substandard RAM. Unless the RAM is totally defective, it will probably still operate in a PC.
Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM
Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
One thing you might try. Get a soft rubber eraser & gently rub the RAM contacts, in the outside chance that there may be some contamination (from finger contact/handling).

  • G5 won't recognize new RAM

I bought two sticks of this RAM http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...g/3200DDR1024/ and put it in my Dual G5, following these instructions http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/memory_c.pdf , but when I go to 'ABout this Mac,' it doesn't recognize that I've added RAM. I put the two sticks in slots 3 and 4 of the bottom half. I then tried putting the RAM into slots 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and then 4 on top and 4 on bottom....but it still won't recognize it. Did I do something wrong?

After reading your problem again, I believe we probably had the exact same thing. I have great news, though--my memory finally went down.
After reading the Crucial instructions (see my earlier post) I was more bold about the amount of force to use in pushing the sticks down, and I still couldn't get them down.
To check if the slots were in the wrong place, I ejected one of the original Apple sticks and compared the side of it to the side of the new sticks, and sure enough they were identical. At that point I decided to push even harder--it actually took an INSANE amount of force to get the sticks to click down--it was quite painful for my finger tips. If you guys have seen the instructional video on how to install memory on the OWC website, this was nothing like that. After sweating and applying a brutal amount of force, the sticks did finally pop down and the two side tabs clicked into place. When I booted the computer, the memory was there!
I would just caution you to make sure you're pushing straight down, because with that amount of force, pushing at any angle other than vertical would surely break the stick.
    Good luck,
    Ashwin

  • Imac wont recognize video camera through fire wire

Hey, iv got gotten a new iMac with Lion on it and my video tape camera (Canon ZR960) isnt recognized by my imac, i plug it in through firewire 800 and nothing happes? This is the only camera i have the caputres from tape and i have recently recorded a project and need it captured to Final Cut Pro X but either way no matter what i do i cannot get the computer to see it.

I don't have FCP X, but from what I know from FCE sand iMovie, those programs all have specific instructions on how to import footage. This is from your user manual (available from the Help menu or online where I found it):
It covers all sorts of options including tape based devices.

  • My imac wont recognize my input in the system preferences

so, im on an older imac (the one with the big round base, a chrome arm holding up a flat screen) and im trying to hook my guitar into the line-in jack next to the headphone jack. i go to "system preferences" and click the "sound" tab, then click the "input" tab. it only gives me the option for the built-in mircophone, i dosent even recognize that i have a line in plugged in. the wire is in perfect condition, so there is no chance that the wire is faulty. i have tryed it with the 1/4 end of the cable plugged into my guitar, and with out, and ive tryed starting my computer with it already plugged in, and i tryed it while the computer was already running. ive recording many songs on my X-girlfrinds MacBook Pro with no isses...same guitar. same wire, and it worked great.
how can i get the "system preferences to recognize that my guitar is plugged in?!?!?
    thank you!!!!
PS this computer was a hand-me-down from my dad, i have no clue what version of garageband i have (not that i think that would matter in this situation) and i do not know what was the last operating system update that this computer recieved

I believe that icloud requires OS 10.7, your post indicates that you have 10.6.8.
