2007 Mac mini Mavericks upgrade?

Hi, coming from the list of machines eligible for OS X Mavericks, my Mac mini is not included. However, the AppStore says I can. Do I make the upgrade or it will not proceed? Thanks. Maybe somebody out there already did upgrade not on the list.

Your Mac Mini is limited to Lion, no later. As I recall the limitation is due to that Mini's GPU.

  • Should i upgrade 2007 mac mini from leopard to lion?

I have a mid-2007 mac mini and would install the two 2G ram cards, but I'm not sure that the newer os would significantly improve things. Many posts suggest that it may be slower. Any thoughts?

The poster said "I never installed Rosetta with my Snow Leopard upgrade, " thus he does not have any software to replace

  • Upgrading RAM on Mid 2007 Mac Mini

My mother has a Mid 2007 Mac Mini, with 512MB RAM. In the past year or two, we've noticed its performance has been slowing. How much would upgrading to 1 or 2 GB of RAM help with the speed?

A fair bit, but only if she installed many Dashboard widgets or RAM intensive applications.  Better that she leave the machine on overnight in screen saver, not energy saver mode, and make sure her hard disk isn't too full*:

And if then things are still slow, consider upgrading the RAM to the limit allowed by the machine according to specs*:

  • Can memory be upgraded on a 2007 Mac Mini

I have the original 1Gb memory installed - can this be added to or upgraded?

Yes and according to OWC up to 4GB has been tested in the 2007 models.

  • Is my 2007 mac mini done for?

My parents have a 2007 mac mini that is getting the folder and question mark, and I've tried to open startup manager but no volumes appear.
Is it safe to say the HDD inside of it dead?

    Do they have a backup...?
If you have the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD that was used to upgrade the Mini to 10.6, pop in the DVD and startup from it. Then navigate to Utilities > Disk Utility to see if you can find and make repairs to the startup volume. If you can not repair the startup volume and do not have a backup, check to see if you can copy the hard disc image to an external hard drive, then try erasing and reinstalling OS X.
If you only have the original Tiger disc set, pop in disc 1 and navigate to Utilities > Disk Utility. At this point you will not be able to repair the Snow Leopard startup volume with the Tiger Disk Utility, but if you can see the volume you might be able to copy it to an external hard drive before erasing and reinstalling OS X 10.4..

  • Mid 2007 Mac mini (2,1) with optibay, boot from raid 0?

I've just got an optibay, which I've installed, and now have two 7200rpm 500GB hard drives inside my 2007 mac mini. I've set it up as raid 0, and have cloned my original boot volume back to it, but when I start up the mini I get a stop symbol instead of the apple symbol.
According to this article, some macs don't support Raid booting, but my mini isn't listed amongst them:

Which Tiger Install DVD do you have...?
    1. I think that, that model originally came with 10.4.10 and so you will need either the original 10.4.10 install disc or a later retail (Leopard or Snow Leopard) upgrade DVD.
    2. In addition, a new (HDD, Hybrid Drive or SSD) must first be Partitioned GUID Partition Table and Formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) before OS X can be installed.

  • Disappearing combo drive on 2007 mac mini in lion

I am having trouble with a disappearing DVD/cd-rw on a 2007 mac mini.  I purchased a used mini of ebay and upgraded to a SATA III SSD and 2 gigs of ram.  For the most part the system functions great.  However, the disc drive is not always recognized by the computer.  When its not recognized, i seem to get a kernel panic when i try to shut it down.
could this be a problem with the OS?  could one of the cables be loose?  I followed the iFixit guide for upgrading the ram and replacing the hard drive and had no problem.
I am also using an old Newer Technologies MiniStack with an external drive.  I did not power the drive on this morning and the combo drive was back and iTunes ripped a CD without issue.
Before i try another clean install, i would appreciate any insight you could share.

Could be a lose connection. I would try reseating the connectors

  • Installing Lion on Mid 2007 mac mini

I recently performed a wipe on my system's hard disk. I had a mid 2007 mac mini with OS 10.5.8 installed. After the wipe, the original installation disks do not work and i am wondering how to get my computer running again and eventually upgrade to snow leopard or lion.

What exactly happens when you insert the original install DVD and try an install?
You can order Snow Leopard DVD here:

Once you have Snow Leopard yo use the Mac App Store to update

  • How to connect an external HD to a 2007 Mac Mini with FireWire

I have a 2007 Mac Mini with a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an 80 GB HD. I recently migrated to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.5) from Tiger (OS X 10.4.11). I purchased a 500 GB external HD from Seagate which I want to use to back up both my wife's notebook PC and my Apple. My Mac Mini has a Firewire 400 (6-pin) female connector on the back. The external HD can connect to a Mac via a Firewire 800 male 9-pin connector. How do I connect the male FW 800 9-pin to the female FW 400 6-pin port? This may sound obvious, but the solution is more challenging than I imagined. The 9- to 6-pin adaptors I've seen online combine a female 6-pin end with a male 9-pin end. I need the reverse of that (female 9-pin FW 800 to male 6-pin FW 400 adaptor)! I bought a 9- to 6-pin cable this week, but ended up with two male 9-pin plug ends, and no way to connect them. Is a solution available using FW, or should I bail and go with a USB 2.0 connection instead?

Most external firewire drives have removable cables that plug into "female" ports on the hard drive. Is the firewire cabling on your external drive different from this? (What is the model number of the external drive?)
If the cable is removeable, simply buy a 6-pin-to-9-pin firewire cable (male on both ends).
monoprice.com is a good place to find these cheaply and in the length you need.

  • Mid-2007 Mac mini and HDMI issues

I have a Mid-2007 Mac Mini with OS X 10.7.3, that, most of the time, will work fine with a DVI->HDMI cable and either of 2 HDMI ports on the TV. The Mini recognizes the display correctly (a Vizio E371VL). The display's native res. is 1080p at 60hz, and the Mini is set to that and looks great. I can switch to lower resolutions and even restart the mini and have the Vizio look and behave correctly.
However, I have an Apple TV (current generation - black brick) hooked up to the other HDMI port on the Vizio. It also looks and acts great.
The problem is when I switch between the inputs on the TV. If I go to the Apple TV (which will be working fine) and then back to the other HDMI input, the Mac mini shows black. The TV does not say "no signal" or indicate any problem. No amount of zapping PRAM, ressetting the SMC or basic restarting helps. In fact, the TV still registers a signal at 1080p. Using Apple Remote Desktop from another Mac (a 2006 Macbook Pro with DVI) shows the Mini is still functioning and still correctly displays the Vizio model and 1080p @ 60hz resolution.
The kicker here is that I can physically disconnect the DVI/HDMI cable from the Mac mini and connect it to the Macbook Pro. The video from the Macbook will pop up immediately. I can switch between the Macbook and Apple TV all day long, switch resolutions, etc. No problem.
Even more bizarre is that this has the effect of "resetting" the Mac mini. If I plug the DVI connector back into the Mini, its video will pop back up. It will work fine as above until the HDMI input is changed again.
Vizio tech support acted as if they'd never heard of Apple, Inc. Useless.
    Super frustrating problem.

    Opperman,
I went with my gut and got an LG 47LM4600 TV with VGA input in addition to HDMI (seems there are not many--if any--TVs sold with DVI inputs anymore). The 2007 Mac mini is plugged in using my old DVI cable with VGA adaptor.  I tested it using the DVI cable with HDMI adaptor, and there was no sound.
I can confirm the same condition that you originally described when I try to switch to the Mac mini on the PC input. The screen is black except for a color bar that flashes on briefly every 2-3 seconds at the bottom of the screen. No amount of switching from one input to the other will make the display come back. The only way I've found to fix it is to unplug the cable from either the TV or the computer and plug it back in.
The annoyance with this is ameliorated by the fact that we'll be using a new Apple TV to watch Netflix from now on, instead of using a Web browser on the mini. Will only have to worry about it when watching DVDs.
    Cheers.

  • 2007 Mac Mini Dropping WIFI constantly

    Hello,
I have a mid-2007 Mac Mini with Snow Leopard installed, and it's located in a room about 20 feet away  from the access point. The connection to the room has never been that great for the Mini, but my iPhone 4S for example has no problem connecting to the WIFI. (The Mini seems to be really sensitive, but it does have good days as well where I get full bars). It's been on and off like this for over a year.
The problem only started a couple days ago, where it cannot connect to the home network at all. When I put the password in, it instantly says "connection timeout". Or it will load to Google.com, but if I try to browse to anything else, it stops, the connection drops.
It was working perfectly fine one afternoon and when I got back, it can't connect to it at all. I've never seen it struggle this much before, to simply connect to WIFI. I've had the computer for 5 years. Every computer, and phone connects perfectly fine to the network. I even tried moving the Mac Mini to a room where the router is just below, and it picked it up fine, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
What can I do to fix this?

The App Store catalogs several free or low cost network analysis apps that might help identify low signal to noise, interfering networks, and available clear channels that might do wonders toward improved reliability. Depending on whether or not the router that is creating the network will support another device "extending" the network if all else fails an Airport Express  either in the room with your mini or perhaps in an intervening room might help.

  • SSD Drive schedules for 2007 Mac Mini @ GHz Core 2 Duo

I have put a 240 Gig Crucial SSD in this computer and there was a very prominent bump in usability ie no pageouts .
I have a 480 Gig SanDisk Extreme II and was wondering how sensible it would be to put it into the Mac Mini . SanDisk has a limited viability schedule posted . I thought SanDisk would have a bit better prepared catalog to view these particulars , and I thought wrong .
Any expertise here would be appreciated to limit my fooling around with the Mac Mini , I had to go back and forth a bit to get stuff I overlooked .
    Thanks in advance ! FRP

In observing the present compatability of the Mid 2007 Mac Mini Intel carrying a Serial ATA (1.5 Gb/s limit , divining just what inhibitions the speedier quality of those routine functions may be prohibited from employing a 6Gb/s SSD over a standard Disk Drive is less straightforward than an ordinary binary matter might , or might not be .
Having made the observations subsequent to my request for suggestions supporting what an experienced hand  might venture I am very satisfied regarding the related efforts here .
There may be some grist for the thought mill here though . There may be enough to offer some amusement in distinguishing between a computers harddrive , and external accessories USB 2 , Firewire , etc .
The $14 USB 2 caddy I thought was going to carry the old disk drive to be the backup for the new 240 GB Crucial SSD . I did not pay attention to details concerning performance as I trusted the Crucial site's advice , and only worried about prying open the old Mini . The SSD drive worked so well that I went to Microcenter to purchase another drive for the caddy . That is where I discovered that the Crucial worked as a SSD hard drive , but was useless as an external device on the "old" Mac Mini . Returning the original Disk drive to the Mini made it apparent when the MacBook Pro was able to read the caddied Crucial SSD , and the old Mini wasn't .
I now have the Crucial in the caddy , the SanDisk in the Mini . A pretty good extentsion of the Mac Mini's usefulness , the pageouts are unmissed . The Crucial will reside within the Mac Book Pro giving both computer and spousal college curriculum Window dependent papers a boost as well .
I don't know why the SSD is working well in the Mini but fails as a  external drive , but that is fine . I would have liked to have put all the Mini's CPU's on SSD .
