2007 macbook or new ipad?

ok it has come down to two products. a new ipad 2 32 gb wifi or a used 2007 2.0GHZ macbook with leopard that is running very well. by the way we have a family desktop but to many people are on that all the time (my dad is a teacher so he does a lot of grading) So for that and a lot of other reasons I think it makes sense to get a laptop or ipad. By the way I am going into 9th grade. I just have a lot of good reasons to get each one but I just can't decide! I know most of you are gonna say "save your money" but I have been saving up and working for a while to get money and I know have enough that I can buy one of these and still have quite a lot left. Also saving my money is the reason I am not going to buy a new laptop.

I'd say it all depends on what you are going to be using it for mainly. I have both, a macbook and and ipad. If you want your devise to be good for student activities like typing papers and research, I would say you should just get the macbook. But, if you want to have fun, the ipad is awesome, tons of great apps,(my favorite right now is a photo editing app that I bought.)
However, if you are wanting it for social networking, I have to warn you facebook on the ipad kinda *****. For some reason, they don't yet have an HD version for ipad, so the best way to use facebook is with the facebook app for iphone... which means you have to magnify it and it looks like crap. Plus, it just doesn't work all the time.
So, like I said, consider the activities you plan to use it for the most and make you decision based on that.

I have successfully sync'd my macbook and new ipad via itunes, but how do I sync the calendar, please ? I do not have icloud yet.

You can select the calendar to sync in the Info Tab in the iTunes window on the right, when your iPad is connected to the Mac , while iTunes is running and after you select the iPad on the left side under the devices heading.

  • How do I upload my contacts, calendar and notes from outlook 2007 to my new iPad with retina display

I just cleaned up my outlook 2007 contact files.
I have an iPhone 5, a new iPad with retina display, and a PC, which is where the outlook program is.
I also have an iCloud account
How do I get the contacts, calendar and notes from outlook to any of these devices, so I can have one synced contact file on all three devices?
I'm sure I am not the first one asking about this but I am new to Apple, and loving it.

With your device connected and iTunes open, navigate to the 'info' tab and scroll down. You'll see the option to sync contacts and such from outlook.

  • Suggestions for connecting 2007 macbook in new apt. wifi.

My daughter just moved into a new apt. she has a 2007 macbook and is unable to connect to the internet.  She has typed in the password and it seems to recognize her computer.  She has pinged the router and is recognized, yet she is unable to connect to the internet.  Any suggestions?  She has rebooted the router, and her 2 other roommates also have macs and have no problem connecting tot he internet.  She took her computer to the starbucks down the street and no problem there either.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Absolutely true for some ISP's like Insight.  Before Comcast took over Insight in my son's area, he had to go through a documented Insight process to connect a different device (router) to the Insight cable modem.  My experience with TimeWarner/Brighthouse RoadRunner when connecting a new router to their cable modems has been that they will assign a new IP address to the new router and will retain the IP/MAC address pair of my previous router for 30 days before purging it from their DHCP database.  This comes in handy when I setup router's for my friends and then reconnect my router to the network and get my original IP address assigned.  Once I have completed my friend's router setup and connected it to his/her network, I contact Brighthouse to let them know they can free up the IP address that had been assigned to my friend's router.  Not all ISP's are as accommodating as TimeWarner/Brighthouse in this area.
I also take advantage of this Brighthouse "capability" when I test the WRT54G backup to my new E3000 WiFi router on a periodic basis.
In short, always contact your ISP to see what procedures need to be followed when you want to connect a different router to their modem.

First, with iTunes not running, launch iSync from your applications folder & under preferences, reset sync history. Then, delete the ipod photo cache, as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Re-boot your computer, launch iTunes, connect your phone & see if your photos will sync now.

When I try to synch, I get an error message that I need OS X version 10.6.8. When I try to update, the message says that my current version, 10.5.8, is the most up to date. Any suggestions on how to get everything synched up please? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have Mac OS X Leopard, and Mac OS X Snow Leopard is a paid upgrade that you can't get from Software Update. Note that the iPhone 5 and I think that the iPad mini and 4th generation iPad require iTunes 10.7 or 11.
First of all, open  > About this Mac, and tell me what processor your computer has got. If it's Intel, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, so buy it > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade.
After upgrading, you will have 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update, and install 10.6.8. Then, you can install iTunes 11.0.4 with a new interface from Software Update, or you can install iTunes 10.7 > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

  • New ipad will no longer connect to the internet.

This is not a network problem - all my other devices work fine and are connecting (including iphone, MacBook, girlfriends "new" ipad). Mine worked fine for months then suddenly, i get the wifi signal but in settings, you just see the spinning gear - not the check mark. When you try to open a web page, it just says "not connected to the internet"
This is the second time this has happend with the 3rd generation ipad.  I had an ipad 1 for years and no probs, then i upgraded to the new one and it stopped connecting after a month or two. PC World said they had a few people report the same problem so just gave me a refund. Bought a replacement new ipad at Apple and now the same thing has happened to that one.  I guess i could take it back to apple but surely there is a fix for this?

I should add that i have also done:
    - reset (holding two buttons)
    - updated software to latest IOS
    - done a full restore to original settings
None of this has solved the problem.

  • HT204053 After doing software updates on my 2007 Apple MacBook,  I couldn't find icloud in the system preferences.  It had "mobile me"  Can I still snc the mac book to my new Ipad air?

I have a 2007 MacBook  and a new Ipad Air.  Is it possible to sync the two even though I don't have Icloud in my Macbook preferences?  There is something called "Mobile Me".

Yes. You can use iTunes 11.
As noted, you need 10.7.5 to use iCloud though.

  • My 2007 Macbook OSX 10.5.8 does not see my new iPad 3.

I tried everything apple suggests in their support forum accept reinstalling Apple Mobile Device. I can't update iTunes from v10.1.1 because I am OSX 10.5.8 and it doesn't support the new iTunes (10.6 or later required). I am worried that if I delete iTunes I won't be able to reinstal it. I don't plan to upgrade my OSX at this time because I am in the middle of a music project.
The main reason I am doing this is because I tried to copy my game data from my iPhone 3GS to my new iPad 3. I was using iExplorer, which was great for grabbing the data from my iPhone, but when i plugged in my iPad to complete the transfer it didn't see it. So, I turned to iTunes to see what the matter was and it also didn't see it. I figure if I resolve the issue in iTunes it will also resolve the iExplorer issue.
    Thank you for your suggestions.

I fixed my problem. I found an older new version of iTunes (10.6.3) and installed it. It is the last version of iTunes to support OSX 10.5.8. I emptied my trash and restarted both devices and iTunes now recognizes my iPad 3

  • New iPad, new MacBook; how to move everything?

Old MacBook (mid-2007) is running Leopard, and all OS and iTunes updates done through end of support.
Also have an old iPad2, which is on iOS 5.1
Brand new iPad mini and MacBook Air.
I need to move all the material from the old iPad to the new one, and have the new one synch properly with the new Air and back up to it.
I've found some detailed instructions here and elsewhere about how to do certain parts of this, but am concerned about the following items, can anyone provide advice?
    1) Can I synch the new iPad with the old computer's iTunes?
    2) If not, can I move the iTunes library from the old Mac to the new one?
I don't want to use iCloud routinely for synching in the future.  Wouldn't mind using it temporarily for specific items as long as I can undo that eventually.
If someone can give me list of the best approach with general steps in the right order, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Demo, this is helpful. However I cannot use Migration Assitant; the staff at the Apple store tried when I picked it up, and no go. So manual it is.
Yes, the article did point out the fact that you had to be running Snow Leopard or newer in order to use Migration Assistant and that moving the files manually was the alternative.
    1. Do I understand correctly that I do the restore from backup first (after getting the backup file onto the new computer), and then sync (after moving the iTunes folder from old to new computer).
    2. Will the sync bring over all the applications?
    3. I don't want to upgrade apps first on the old iPad, as the results of upgrades can be unpredictable. I'm planning to upgrade them as soon as they are on the new iPad. Is this reasonable?
    1. Yes. Do the restore after getting the backup onto the new Mac. You can't use the new iPad with the old  Mac so you have to move the files over first.
    2. If the apps are in the iTunes library on the new Mac, syncing will bring them over. Any apps that don't end up on the new Mac can always be downloaded again if necessary.
    3. Yes. I would also wait before updating any apps.

I have a MacBook Air, bought in 2010 or 2011.  It is running OS 10.6.8.

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

" how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it?"
You cannot.  Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.
