2007 MacBook Pro Screen becomes distorted and Computer becomes unresponsive
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. This is hard to explain with words alone, but I will try: I'll be using my 2007 MacBook Pro with no problems, when all of a sudden the screen will start to flicker and the display will become distorted where everything seems like it is tapering into seperate small rectangles. If I am playing music through any application (iTunes, Safari, Ableton Live, Adobe Premiere, etc.) the music will continue to play and I can still move the mouse around but I cannot click on anything or stop the music and none of my keyboard brightness or volume commands will function. Basically it's a partial freeze. This is very troubling as it is becoming more and more frequent. I did drop my computer once a year and a half ago but have not had any trouble of this sort (or at all for that matter) until about 2 months ago, so I'm not sure if this is related. It happened to me twice before I upgraded to 10.6.4 from 10.4.11, only then it was more serious and when I rebooted afterwards it would give me that ominous gray screen with the restart logo and several languages saying I needed to shut it down. Now when it happens I can restart my computer just fine (assuming I force shut it down with the power button for 6 seconds), but sometimes when it restarts the weird screen effect I described will happen during start up and then go away once it is running again. If anyone has any idea what is causing this please let me know, this computer is very important to me, as I do 85% of my work on it. Help! Thanks!!!!
Matt

Macbook Pro screen is black and will not shut down or boot up right.
Last night my 2007 macbook pro would not go to sleep properly. When I closed the book the light stayed on and the fan continued running. Later I shut it down.
This morning the computer turned on but the screen is black. I tried closing the book but again it would not sleep. I hold down the power button and it seems to shut down but when I push the power button again the light comes back on and the fan starts up but the screen stays black and there is no powerup sound.
The lights on the battery are lit up. I tried taking the battery out but same thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.Try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Then see if it will boot into Safe Mode. Do not remove the battery unless it's defective.
If none of the above work then you may have a hardware failure so take it in for service. -
Macbook pro screen has black and white squares
I have an older 2007 15" MacBook Pro. I turned it on one day and, although the computer made the same sounds it always does when it is booting up, the screen showed these very depressing black and white squares, and the rest of the pixes around these blocks (half black, half white) were very scrambled. A few days later the computer booted up completely normally, but now it is back to the crazy screen.
Does anyone know what this problem may be? I am currently in Thailand and am wondering if someone can help me figure out what problem this most likely is so I can decide how much an appropriate repair should cost.
Thanks so much!Hi if the device is a Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2010 model then there might be a chance of replacement of MLB for NVDIA graphic problem, please contact an apple authorised service provider for more details about this issue and you may get a free replacement programme for this MLB also all the best.....

Mac book pro screen went black and computer won't respond
I was using my MacBook Pro , which I only bought a week ago , when the screen suddenly went black and the computer seemed to power down , when this happened it was on 40% battery , I plugged In the MagSafe it didn't seem to light but when I looked closely it was on but it was very dim and flashing green and orange . When I put my ear to the case I can hear a faint noise , can any please help ?
Jordankaye,
since you’ve only had your MacBook Pro for a week, you’re within the 90-day telephone support period with Apple. Make good use of it while it lasts and contact Apple directly — this is a user-to-user forum, and we don’t have all of the resources which Apple has at its disposal. -
Macbook Pro screen turns black and has to be force restarted
I have a 2010 15 inch Macbook Pro that I purchased for college and that is mainly what I use it for! However lately (the past 3 months) my computer has been turning black with use of videos, pictures and sometimes just my broswer in general. It does not seem to have a reason or pattern but always gives me this panic report after restart. Any Ideas?

Read the forum posts, Google the issue, watch the YouTube videos on the problems; they are everywhere. I purchased a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and the screen is riddled with dead pixels, white ghosting throughout, and image retention issues, all from a company that promotes the quality of the product they sell. There's no way this issue facing so many consumers shouldn't result in Apple replacing these screens for FREE.
I purchased the high-end machine for photo and video editing. Photo editing is particularly difficult when I can't tell if I have dust, dirt or colour shifts in my images or if it's just the screen overlaying these issues. I've never had so many issues with any screen I've purchased, from my Panasonic Plasma TV to my cheap ACER laptop. Please Apple, quit ignoring this issue.Be advised that this is a user to user forum where Apple employees do not participate. You may make your thoughts known here:

Screen froze up and computer became unresponsive after 10.7.1 update
I updated yesterday to 10.7.1 and after the update the computer screen froze and then had white blocks on the screen in a pattern. Now the screen is black and it will not boot up?
Does anyone have any ideas?
I have done a PRAM and SMC reset and it still does not work.I had something very similar happen. I shut the lid on my MacBook. When I opened it up, I tried to type in my password (I have it password protected when it sleeps) and none of the keystrokes did anything. I had to hit the power-off button to cold boot the computer.

Please help! I can't get my screen to turn back on. It just stays black when I turn it on. Is there anything I can do to reboot it or am I just out of luck
Thanks!Did you buy the Applecare extended warranty? If not then you will need to pay for whatever repairs need to be done.
You will need to take the system to an Apple store Genius Bar for a check up. -
MacBook pro screen is black but computer still on...
I was using my computer one minute, then closed it and stuck it in my bookbag and then headed down a flight of stairs. When I got down there I eventually tried to open up my laptop, and the screen was black but I could hear the computer. When I got home I held down the power button to turn it off, then powered it back on. Same issue. I hear the clicking sound i always hear when I turn the computer on, but no Mac starting chime, although I don't think I've heard that in years. The power button light that goes around the power button is not on, but again I don't think that's ever on. My charger is plugged in (it's orange).
I have tried taking the battery out with the computer off and popping it back in. I tried with the computer on and popping it back in. Same issue. The other thing I noticed is it doesn't seem to be going into sleep mode when I close the screen (that front white light using flashes off and on again when it sleeps I think?).
Im going to try to take it to an apple tech person, but I am studying abroad in new Zealand so there's much less infrastructure here. Can't find an official apple store. But i did want to try some things tonight possibly to maybe fix it.
I'm thinking this might be an nvidia graphics card issue.Just tried to reset pvram and Pmu and in the steps it says the computer should restart. It doesn't seem to be restarting for me.

I want to reformat my 2007 MacBook Pro, I insert disk and restart and then 'c' and it thinks about it for a second, then i get this glitch/static frozen screen and thats it... Have to restart my computer with no 'c' and starts up fine...
I'm currently on 10.7.5 and my disk is 10.4.9If you start your computer up normally, can you insert the disc and browse through it without any problems? I know my old Late 2007 MBP had issues booting from my Snow Leopard DVD the last time I tried. It took several boot attempts before it would finally boot, then it took a few hours to load the OS from it. In my case, the drive had just gone bad (it had accumulated a good bit of dust/junk in it (one of the perils of a slot load drive) and basically just quit working altogether. You may be facing the same problem...

The hinge between my screen and my computer (macbook pro retina) has cracked and doesn't hold the screen anymore. Can I fix it without changing my screen. And if it's still on guarantee does Apple have to repair it?
Apple can fix any and all of their computers. Whether it would be charged to you would be the question. Do you have AppleCare?
Accidental damage is not covered by AppleCare.

2007 Macbook Pro OS X Maverick with maxed out processor and hard drive. It's been running beautifully for years! - When shutting down the computer failed to turn off. Now it won't turn off or on. Powering on only results in quickly flashing power-on button on front of computer by display open latch. To turn off by disconnecting power cord and removing battery. Help!

Gray and white smudges in MacBook Pro Screen
About 1 week ago, I noticed 2 faint grey smudges in the middle of my MacBook Pro screen. I dismissed it at the time because I could barely see them unless I looked extremely close on a dark screen. I opened my computer up yesterday to see that the amount of spots had tripled from 2 to 6, are becoming more apparent, and all in the same area in the middle of the screen. They are still only able to be seen on a dark screen. The smudges are about the size of the cursor Also, when I tilt my head or tilt my laptop screen far back on a white screen, I can see that those spots turn slightly brighter white than the rest of the screen. While the grey smudges aren't connected, these white areas appear to connect to make a circle.
Another quick note, in December, I had a similar problem with my screen. The white spots were in the same circular shape and clear on any background, however, instead of grey smudges, I had spots that were black in the exact same circular shape. Apple labeled it as pixel anomalies and replaced my screen for me with no problems. Do you think it is pixel anomalies or something different? I bought the laptop in September 2011 and it is under everyTake it in for repairs while you are still under warranty.

Does anyone have any advise when a Macbook Pro doesn't boot and has a blank screen? The fan is running but there are no backlights working.
Depending on your model MBP, see Article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues These computers were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008
If you are under warranty and/or have AC, give them a call.
