2007 MacBook Pro w/ Mac OS X Lion Can't Automatically Connect to my Wi-Fi Network...

Hello everyone,
I have a late 2007 15" MacBook Pro (not Unibody model) that has been recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion (not Mountain Lion).
Ever since the upgrade, when I power it on, everything loads as it should but what I notice is that my MacBook doesn't automatically connect (or finds) my wireless router. I have to click on the wi-fi antenna icon on the top right hand corner, and manually select my Wi-Fi connection from the pull down list. What's even more bizaare is that my MacBook knows to automatically connect because it's in my preferred network list.
I also have a 27" iMac with Mac OS X Lion and I don't get this issue. It simply powers up and automatically connects to my wireless network. I tried to compare configuration settings on both my MacBook and iMac but everything appears to match.
All of my software updates are up to date.
I really hate powering on my MacBook and manually select it from the pull down list of available networks.
Any help? Suggestions? I'm really scratching my head on this one.
Thanks!

Things to do on the affected MBP.
Switch off WiFi
In System Preferences, Network, WiFi interface, Advanced - remove the problematic network.
Go to Keychain, (Applications, Utilities) and remove keys associated with that network.
Switch on WiFi and try to connect again.
Please report back.

No. The architechture is too old. I think Lion will be as far as you can go, as a guess without knowing your specs. But if the machine cannot run Mountain Lion then there is no way of doing it (short of replacing the mechanics which would be more expensive than buying a more up to date Mac)

You need to upgrade the iMac to Mac OS X 10.6.3 and then 10.6.8; the installer won't run on 10.5.8, and it won't install onto a 10.5.8 system if run from a compatible OS.

It is stated that mirroring requires recent hardware (2011 or later)

However you can still use 3rd party solutions like Airparrot which do it via software

  • 2007 MacBook Pro Doesn't like Mountain Lion-- Loud, incessant fan.

Since updating my 2007 Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion, the fan won't stop running loudly. The CUP% looks normal (nothing over 10) and I am only running google chrome. Is this a common problem? is there a common fix?

I fixed the issue. I researched many many forums and found no help on any of them, and sorry-no help on this one either.
What solved the issue - and I hope this helps someone else who has the same problem:
1).  Install new hard drive (with or without osx pre installed)
    2).  Remove all ram
3).  Power on and wait 1 minute
4).  Hold power button until it turns off
    5).  Install ram
    6).  Power back on
    7).  BOOM! It works again.

  • If I buy a new MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion preinstalled, can I install it on my old MacBook too?

I logged into Mac App Store on old MB but it doesn't give download option. Seems reasonable enoug to be honest but was hoping I could get it free!

No. When it's preinstalled you use the Internet Recovery method to reinstall. If you have another computer with Snow Leopard on it you need to purchase a separate copy of Lion from the App Store. That purchase can be installed on any computer that you own provided the computers that had Lion preinstalled do not require a machine-dependent version of Lion.

  • Late 2007 Macbook pro 15inch Mavericks update?

I have a late 2007 Macbook pro 15inch which I love. Can it be updated to mavericks or must I bid it a fond farewell?
    Thank you!

Your Mac originally came with 2 GB of RAM.  Mavericks will run in that amount but will be slower than if you have 4 GB or 6 GB.  If after you upgrade you want more speed see OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial.com for memory upgrades.  They are inexpensive.

  • Itunes on macbook pro with mac os x tiger software.

tunes on macbook pro with mac os x tiger software, i cant connect and it doesnt upgrade from 9.1.1 to itunes 10 why?

    Welcome to Apple Communities
iTunes 10 requires Mac OS X Leopard or later, so upgrade to Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion

  • Performance unacceptable after installing lion on late 2007 MacBook Pro

I have a mid-2007 MacBook Pro with 2Gb of memory and a 2.4GHz Intel Core2Duo.  Since installing Lion, Safari is all but unusable, it takes forever to load, every page I try to load stops the entire computer with the spinning beach ball, I haven't even tried flash sites. iTunes hangs every time I download a podcast at the processing file stage.  I keep iTunes open to feed my AppleTV, but after a few hours of watching I have to restart iTunes because everything starts to hang.  To say nothing of what happens when iTunes starts automatically downloading podcasts.  Syncs with my iPad have been hit or miss.  The entire machine seems slow and sluggish.  I tried running one app at a time, and that helped some, but it didn't fix the problem.  I am assuming this is a RAM issue and have ordered more, but Apple said it would work with 2Gb of RAM.  I don't call this working.
So my question is does it save memory to run apps in full screen or should I keep them as just windows?  I have tried to kill all the extras, and I have been trying to just do one thing at a time, but I have honestly never had this kind of reaction to a new OS when the machine was in spec.  And I have been upgrading since system 7.  Is 4Gb going to be enough?  Is the processor just not fast enough to handle it?  Upgrading to a new machine is not an option at all, and I really like the working bits of Lion I have seen, but am I stuck?

I haven't done permissions yet, but I have rebooted several times. I had an issue with the superdrive not recognizing DVDs, so I zapped the PRAM and did the SMC thing.  Plus, I've tried rebooting just to see if that would help, but it has not.
I have been watching istat and there's some free memory but not a lot.  I was fine under snow leopard, I never had any troubles until I started running a lot of stuff at once.  I agree that this is almost certainly memory. It gets worse the more things I try to do at once.  Everything hangs whenever there's an operation to be done (syncing, downloading). It just feels like the machine is choking.
I saw an article earlier on one of the Mac RSSs that the writer was having problems with Safari consuming up to a gig of memory just sitting idle with a few tabs open.  I'm not going to bother with Safari until I put the memory in, Chrome runs pretty well, even if I can't really do the full-screen thing.  I guess at this point I'm just looking for help for what I can do to conserve memory until more arrives.  And I'm a little annoyed at Apple for saying Lion works with 2Gb of RAM when it really doesn't.  If you can't use the browser or the iTunes, how can you even hope to run Photoshop?  iMovie takes 5 minutes to load and when it does it's full of visual glitches.
I guess I'll try permissions and see if that helps. Thanks for your ideas though.

  • Lion killed my 2007 MacBook Pro

Installed Lion successfully on my 2007 MacBook Pro. First run went OK. Tried restarting and won't boot. No Chime... nothing.
SMC reset and PRAM reset don't do anything. Sleep light comes on for split second, optical disk engages momentarily, then all goes dead. Screen stays black. Attempted start without RAM seems to indicate logic board is working. Getting repeating tones. Flashing light when I press and hold power is the most I can get with the memory installed.
Consider myself a pro user. Can anyone help, or should I just throw it away?

Do you have your Snow Leopard discs handy? Try to start up from there and check the state of your Hard Drive with DiskUtility. Sounds like Lion may well have hurried p a predisposed issue with your Mac.
