2007 MBP3.1 17" won't accept blank CD-R's

Hi,
My 17" late '07 MacBook Pro won't accept blank CD-R's any more. A couple of days ago it worked fine, now all of a sudden ALL blank CD's are (r)ejected. Blank DVD's are not a problem, nor are music cd's and dvd's with data or movies.
What might be wrong here and what can I do to fix it?
Thanks!
James.

First step is to run a DVD Lens cleaner through it, often a tidy bit of dust or dirt can prevent reading/calibration (and can be inconsistent on what they read).

  • My Mac desktop computer won't accept blank CDs?

I'm trying to make a mix CD but everytime I insert a blank CD it just sits in the drive for a while then just ejects itself? But when I insert CDs with music and things already on it, the CD loads like its supposed to. Also, when I insert blank DVDs it accepts them just fine. I checked a million times if there was already a disk in there and there's not, so that's not the problem. I don't know what else it could be, help???

  • Media Drive won't accept new/blank CD-Rs

I just bought a spindle of TDK CD-Rs. While my iMac's Media Drive is accepting regular CDs, blank DVDs, etc., it just spins, tries a few times, and then spits back out these new CD-Rs.
I have tried the same discs on my MacBook, and they spin up normally (and the OS asks me what to do with the blank media).
Is there any reason someone can think that these CDs won't work on my iMac?

    Hey
I'm having pretty much the same problem, only that it's on my macbook.
My drive has no problems reading bought or burnt CDs and DVDs, and also accepts blank DVDs, but it just won't take blank CDs. It doesn't make a difference what brand I use. The drive just always starts up, then slows down again, tries this 3 times, and then ejects the CD.
I already tried booting while holding the eject key, and also the drive-reset which was described for the macbook pros (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2839), but nothing worked

  • I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for?

I downloaded Mavericks and it won't install. I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for? I never had an administrator password-- I just hit enter and have never had a problem before with previous installations. I'm on an iMac, from 2007, running Mt. Lion (version 10.8.5). I've been looking for other's posts who may be having the same problem, but haven't found any. Can anyone help?

Ugh. The 'no password, no work' thing is a recent Apple development. I ran into it on my system and ended up having to do a clean install on a partition I fully erased.
I suppose, if you have the ability to, go online and look up how to burn a bootable DVD image. Download the 10.8.4 image then use the Disk Utility to make a boot image of it. You'll need a dual-layer DVD or a USB drive (or memory stick at least 8GB) If you've got an optical drive, burn the disk, if you've a USB device, use that.
Then get a pocket drive and copy your important files off the system or let Time Machine do a full backup.
When the backup is done, insert the disk and hold down the C key until the machine boots off of the DVD. At the point you get to the start window, go to the menu and choose the Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility, reformat the drive. You go to the actual DRIVE (not the Macintosh HD, but the root above it that is the actual hard drive device)
I always do this and *partition* it into several volumes, the benefit being, you can store all of your music, documents and importans stuff on that secondary storage volume you make - it will have it's own index and then the first volume is where you put the OS and it will have it's own index as well. That way, if the OS throws a wobbler and you need to reinstall, you don't lose your data.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, it is good to give your OS partition at least 60GB and optimally 100GB, and the rest for storage.
Name your volumes, use the little box sliders to manually size them or put that number in the size window, select for the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and hit Apply and then the Disk Utility will quickly create your new partitions.
Once finished, quit the Utility and it will return you to the OS installer. Select the volume you want to install to and it should start up and install.
Once the installation is done, you'll get the new machine startup then you MUST put in a password for the computer. Once you're in, and to the desktop, don't bother with any Mountain Lion updates, go right to the App Store and get the Mavericks update and let it install the app to your Applicaitons folder, then do that install.
On a side note, there MAY be a way to make a disk image from the Mavericks application and avoid the entire Mountain Lion step.. I honestly do not know, but a bit of hitting the search engines may find out if there is. I think that if you looked for "make Mavericks boot disk or boot image' you may find something.
    Good luck!

  • CD player wont accept blank cd's to record

Hi, I'm trying to get my disk burner to accept a blank cd for recording music. After I insert the blank cd it whirls around for awhile the just ejects it without any type of pop up saying why it won't accept it. Yes I'm using correct media type. Plays recorded cd dvd fine just won't burn. Any ideas as to what I may try to correct this issue would be great.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

I've just downloaded Edge Code via Creative cloud, but when I open up the application the only thing I get is a blank white window titled index.html.

  • Superdrive won't accept CD.

    hello!
I have a problem with my superdrive on macbook.
So, it don't accept disks when it works. But if i turn off the computer and put disk to the drive(as we usually do it - more than half of CD), and turn on computer, it get it in! It take place with strange sounds. And than computer works with that CD normally. But than, if we eject it, it won't accept it again..
in programs such as TOAST TITANIUM i saw that they detect open tray. And can't close it.

I'm sorry to say that my iMac thats worked faultlessly for over a year has now succumbed to this problem, whenever I insert a blank CD-R or DVD-R it spits it right back out, interestingly enough it will accept burnt CD-R's but not DVD-R's (sometimes they get stuck in there and I have to restart to eject it), I have tried all of the "fixes" as stated above including an archive and install of Tiger and booting from my external HD with Panther but to no avail, looks like it was a good call to have an extended Apple Care.
I've searched a lot of threads about this and haven't found a solution I just hope Apple support doesn't try to fob me of about not using Apple blank media like some people have reported.

  • Macbook won't accept CDs

My macbook will burn DVDs fine (I'm actually burning one right now). But for some reason, whenever I insert a CD into the drive, my computer makes a few noises and then spits the CD right back out.
I though maybe if my computer prompted me for a CD maybe it would accept one. So, I tried to burn a playlist from iTunes, and then inserting the CD when it prompted me for a blank disc. Still the same problem - I inserted the CD, iTunes said "checking media," and then the disc came right out (with nothing burned on it).
I'm using CD-Rs that say TDK on them (if that helps). They work fine on my parent's PC, so I'm not sure why they're not working here.
    Any help?

We are having very similar problem on a 1.83 GHz Macbook (2006).
The mac reads DVDs fine (can't write DVDs, it's a CD-burner only), but won't accept CDs, either commercial ones or just burned.
We changed the system (upgrading to fro m10.4.11 to 10.5.3), but no avail, the problem is still there.
We created an empty user and tested the drive with this user, still the same.
The only thing we did not do yet is starting the mac from a CD (I think we'll have to use a Linux CD for that).
Anyone has got an idea out there?
    Thanks,

  • How can I insert a required subVI that is required but Labview won't accept it?

I am trying to use a VI named Termperature Monitor that was provided in
the Labview 7  library included on the CD but it seems to be
missing subVIs. I located the subVIs on the cd and attempted to insert
them into the block diagram where the question marks are. Despite the
fact that the names of the subVIs match what Labview expects, the app
won't accept them. Is there a way to force them to accept the subVI
    that I picked?

Have you installed LabVIEW? and if yes, aren't the example vi's on your harddrive now? How are you "attempting to insert them"? When LabVIEW starts loading a vi and hits a sub-vi that it can't find it will eventually pop up a message with a file search box. If you then navigate to where the vi (with exactly the same name ) resides it should then use that vi. If it, for whatever reason, doesn't match (different connections in particular instance), it should still place it on the diagram, but with broken wires. Alternately you can right click on the blank icon with ?, scoll down to "replace" and navigate to the correct one. This way doesn't require the new vi to have the same name. I'm not sure what happens if the vi you are looking for is on a CD though.

  • Install ap won't accept admin password

When we try to install Yosemite, the installer won't accept our admin password
(blank).  We tried changing the password and
System Preferences > Users & Groups > Change Password
wont accept it either.  What do we do?

    Two options:
    1) Create a new Admin account and give it a password. Use that to install.
    2) You could try the Password Reset Utility in Recovery. Doing so will not change your keychain password, so you'll have to change that, too. I would change the login keychain password first, then use Password Reset Utility to change account password to the same password. I have not tried this, so I don't know if it will be effective at recovering the keychain post password reset.
    Password Reset:
    Boot into Recovery
    Open Terminal from Utilities menu.
    Type resetpassword and hit return.
Follow prompts to select Hard drive and user account.
    Reset the password.
    Restart normally.

  • How can I access my iCloud email account when I don't remember the password and Apple won't accept the answer to my security question?

I set up an email account with " @me.com". I get a wrong password message when I try to log in. When I try to change my password I get an INcorrect answer message to the security question I'm asked my birth date so I know I have it right, unless I did a typo when I set up the account. When I choose email me the reset password lnk I cannot retrieve the email because it won't accept the password. I wanted to justemail Apple for instructions but cannot find an email address for that. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried that without any luck. I was hoping I could get Apple to reset it for me or delete the account so I could recreate it or at least tell me what is listed as my birth date, the security question answer.
