2008.04-RC Images are out

http://www.archlinux.org/news/389/
A new batch of install images is currently syncing to mirrors.
FTP images have been made available tonight, while CORE images
will be pushed tomorrow night in order to distribute the load.
This marks the first release (well ok... release candidate)
based on a true live Arch system. That is, what's on the
images is just a plain old base installation which just
happens to boot off of a CD or USB stick.
Whoah... did you just say USB stick? Why yes I did! That's
right, from here on out we'll be offering bootable USB disk
images that can act as a live system or installer.
The installer script itself is roughly the same as it's always
been. The most noticable change is the use of UUIDs instead of
sdX/hdX entries by default. A more detailed changelog
should be visible on projects.archlinux.org soon-ish.
If you get the chance, please give the images a spin. You can
find them on our mirrors, in the
iso directory. Please file bugs if you encounter any problems.
By the way, the "RC" status of these images should not be a
turn-off if you're looking to install Arch, there's a very
good chance they'll work just fine for you.
Ready. Set. Go!

On with install: Two choices to boot, I have no idea what the legacy ide boot option is/does. Then there is two login options arch and root, yet no idea what arch login is used for.
Second try: Selects the mount points, that i made in first attempt. Now this could be better since having sda1-4 doesn't say much so i guessed they were made in same order that in autopartitioner. Seeing partition sizes would make mounting easier imho.
Now I noticed I still have US keymap and i wonder if I could've changed it before starting installation, well its a minor annoyance.
Installs whole base. Proceeds to hwdetect, it does its job. So previous arch installs worked without changing config files, they seem to be there now too. Fstab looks quite empty tho. No sda mount points here.
Proceeds to install grub. There still seems to be the vga=773 help text was hoping to see the new v86d as default.
Gets scared by the uuids, those prolly make manual editing / fixing of grub pretty impossible.
Reboot: Sees old uglier grub again, would've wanted to see the same Grub as in archinstaller. Overlord changed to core dump again
So fstab was indeed wrong. Root seems to be mounted readonly, Sucks
du -cH /  is Total=462M and 113M in /var (didn't keep downloaded packages)
So it works. Now if there would be fbcondecor/ splash option, new kernel and ext4 in filesystem choices ah it would be perfect.
ah and yes fstab would've been populated :'(
The legacy-ide boot option is for those machines (like my desktop!) that tend to suck under the new pata subsystem. You would probably know if you needed it (mostly SiS chipsets).
Trying not to come down on you hard, but this is the typical cries for "more more more!" that we really want to make a conscious effort to stay away from- an installer should be lean and mean, which a touch of color. Want a graphical grub installer on your host system? Use grub-gfx from community, just like we did, but we aren't going to force that on everyone. People come to Arch because we don't patch the heck out of our packages. Want v86d? Well I don't, so its not going to be default. But no one is stopping you from installing and using it, and it saves us the hassle of misconfiguration woes.
With that said, thanks for all the feedback- Simo and I are glad to see people are trying these out. Are most people using the ISO image still, or have people ventured to using the USB images?

  • When Generating Page from Photoshop to Reflow it seems to work properly, however when I save, close then reopen all of my images are out of place, stretched, etc.

I am new to Reflow, so this could be an easy fix. I have tried to go back through tutorials and it seems as if I am doing everything right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Library folders are Grayed out but images are there !?

    I have several interanl HDs.
On one of them the images are divided into 2 folders
    1 personal
    2 work
    both have many sub folders
I had just moved one folder from one sub folder to another using LR
After which in the library module
the work folder and all it's sub folders are grayed out and have no image totals
however the images are viewable and load and can be worked on in Dev module.
The image folders do not have question marks as they would if they could not be found.
The images are where they should be when I look for them in the finder.
The personal folder is functioning the same as the other
but all it's subfolders are grayed and without totals
The parent folder does have a total !
    I optimized the Catalog.
    I sync'ed  folders
    I shut down and restarted
    Nothing has changed
I have no idea what to do.

  • Contact sheet images are grayed out

I have made an album of black and white images and want to print them as a series of contact sheets. The sheets look good when customized, but when I tell it to print, all but the first two of the previewed images are grayed out and not worth printing. Is this an iPhoto or a printer problem or something I'm missing? The images were converted from B&W film negatives. This happens whether using the Macbook Pro or the Macbook.

what color profile do they have? If it is gray scale it will not work - they must have sRGB as the color profile for use with iPhoto (they will still display and print black and white)

  • Video images and sound are out of sync

Hi, I'm new to videocasts so please forgive me. I have a few video podcasts that play fine in iTunes and in other iPods but audio and images become out of sync when I play it on my Nano. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What format were the original items ?
What frame rate are they in the original ?
What format are they on the AppleTV (H264 video AAC audio is the most common, but there are others) ?
What is the video frame rate now ?
Most out of syncs come from an imperfect attempt to encode for AppleTV. ie. DVD frame rate is 29.97fps. Many encode this to 30fps. So the movie plays 0.1% too fast, too little for you to notice, but at the end of a 100 minute film, the audio is 6 seconds out of sync with the video. Or 3 seconds on a 45 minute TV show.
Also check the source. I'd had DVDs (Alien Resurrection) jump 10 seconds out of sync in the middle of the movie. Back to the shop for that one.

Apart from its inverted colour, the image in the OP does look rather bad when clicked, but the linked version seems quite normal given the size.

Now, I created a jar file for my application in the following steps.................................
              STEP-1:          Firstly, I created a text file(mainclassInfo.txt) that contains
              the line:--     Main-Class: Examination
This line would be automatically added to the default manifest file when I would include the                name of that text file with the command to create the jar file.
Location of the text file I created:     C:\mainClassInfo.txt
STEP-2:          Then I went to C:\Examination and executed the following command(by using                'Command prompt'):--------------------------------------------------------------------
    jar cmf C:\mainClassInfo.txt Examination.jar Examination.class ExamBox.class PaperSetterBox.class pspBox.class epBox.class TimerBox.class ReportCardBox.class HelpBox.class AboutBox.class Images Sounds
Finally, I got the jar file:-     Examination.jar
Double clicking on it application ran as it was expected.
Then, I thought, that as all the files & folders the application needed to run properly were packaged in the jar file; I should delete all the contents of the folder 'Examination', so that no one could see or use anything of the resources easily. I did that.
So, then it became only:-- C:\Examination\Examination.jar
Thereafter, I tried to run the application again and there a problem occurred! The application was running, but the images, those were to be used and shown by the application were missing somehow!!
Moreover, when I kept a copy of those 2 folders('Images' and 'Sounds') into the C:\Examination and ran the application again all the images came out normally!
I just can't understand why it's happening so mysterious?
I don't want to leave anything of the resources in an open place; I mean, outside of the jar file. The images should be used and shown by the application.
    Help me please!

The Image class itself does not have any methods for loading images from files so you must be using something more. Most methods for loading images from files have an overload that lets you use a URL, so you just need to use that method with a call to getResource like in the other thread. If you can't think of anything else, you can use ImageIcon to load an Image (the Image is returned by a call to ImageIcon.getImage). See also "how to use icons" from the swing tutorial:

    Hello,
I am using 10.4.11 operating system. I upgraded from Photo shop 7.0 to CS and all my images print out green. The printer is a Epson Stylus C88+. The images on my monitor look the same as 7.0. I do a nozzle check every day.
Does any body know why this happened?
    Please help!
    Many thanks,

  • Images disappear out of Links palette

I have an InDesign document, one of several that were created from scratch. I just discovered that in this document over half the images are now not listed in the Links palette. I placed the images (tifs) originally using Place.
Clicking on images, which appear normally on the page, using either selection tool does not make the name appear in the palette.
If I use the Package command, it does not copy the missing images. The Preflight command does indicate that there are "embedded" images (but of course doesn't give me the names so I can't easily go back and find/relink them!). There ARE 11 images in the document (Tifs and a few .psd images) that are appearing as normal in the palette.
So far none of the other similar documents I've worked on over the last month or so have this problem. I tried resetting the prefs and removing/recreating the Cache files. (house/Library/Cashes/AdobeInDesign.
Any ideas 1) how to fix; or 2) what happened, so I can avoid having it happen again?
How come this stuff always happens when you're on a big deadline?

    >Only if your network is unstable. For most groups, it's not only
acceptable but in fact is the only way to work especially if there's an
    InCopy element to the workflow.
This will always come back to bite you eventually. Maybe not today and maybe not even this year, but eventually.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/06/filesaving_issu.html
Why not set up a good system to deal with file check-outs instead? We link directly to all of the graphics across the network, but the actual InDesign files that are going to be edited and saved are all edited locally after check-out.
Just my $.02 on the matter...
EDIT: Oops, I see you tried the INX export already! Were these files perhaps pasted directly into InDesign? If so, you can copy them out and save them as graphics and relink to the graphics, but otherwise they are just a part of the file.

  • [svn] 663: Fix SDK-14201: Performance: embedded images are written into the swf one byte at a time.

    Revision: 663
    Author: [email protected]
    Date: 2008-02-26 13:56:08 -0800 (Tue, 26 Feb 2008)
    Log Message:
Fix SDK-14201: Performance: embedded images are written into the swf one byte at a time.
This changes the way swfs are written out when they contain embedded lossless images,
such as PNGs and GIFs. The old code had a loop to write a byte at a time; the new code
does a single biblt. The result is a modest compilation speedup, on the order of
several hundred milliseconds when compiling Flexstore.
(This already went into the trunk as revision 658.)

    Hiya, Mike,
It's pretty tough to work through pasted-in code. If you can, please upload a page to a server, so we can see your pages in context. We'll be able to download it and look at it.
That said, you can do this: Find the beginning of an editable region in Code View. It will look like this:
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="nameofregionhere" -->
Click anywhere in that tag, between the opening bracket and the closing bracket.
Then, on the vertical toolbar on the left side of the Code window, click on the "Collapse Full Tag" button. It is the one with two arrows pointing at each other. This will collapse that entire editable region. Then click the button with the two arrows pointing away from each other. That will re-open the editable region, but will highlight it.
If you have nested regions, you will find the other inside one of the editable regions. If you copy the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable and do a search on it in that document, you will find the nested region.
