2008 MacBook and Mtn. Lion Later update?

2008 MacBook and Mtn. Lion Later update? Has anyone heard whether there could be an update to Mtn. Lion later that might include the drivers for the 32 bit video chipset so we could run Mtn. Lion on our earlier MacBooks? Could Apple to that if they wanted to?

Of course they could do that but that is not the direction Apple or the rest of the computer industry is going so I really doubt that you will be able to get them to do that.

I am using a late 2008 macbook and have recently purchased a WD passport ultra 1TB drive to use as storage.  I have successfully formatted the drive, and moved files from macbook onto it, however now I cannot locate the drive within FINDER, even though it is showing within disc utility.  Please HELP!!!!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open a Finder window, and your external drive should show up in the sidebar, under "Devices".
A different way is to go to Finder menu (in the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and tick "External disks". If your external drive is detected by OS X, it will show up at the top right corner of Desktop, so double-click it to access to the content.

  • Just bought a new macbook w/ mtn lion. transferred data from my old macbook over n it created another user name. that's actually good--xcept for music, which i want on my new acct. How do i move files from my "old comp" acct to my new one?

i just bought a new macbook w/ mtn lion. when i transferred data from my old macbook over, it created another user name (i called it "old computer"). That's actually good--I'm not going to be accessing old files frequently--except for music, which i want on my new user name. How do i move files from my "old comp" account to my new one? Is there a way to easily move large #'s of files, or just one by one? I've googled extensively but can only find instructions for OSX 10.6 and previous, which talks about the "Shared folder," which I can't seem to find.

That's actually bad. Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and seriously consider starting over.

  • What version of LR should I choose to run it on a 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM)

As it says in the title: I want to run LR on my 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM). Adobe support told me that it would not be a problem, yet i'm confronted with a com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1. I have no idea what it is or how to solve it.
Can you please help me? Thank you.

You will not be able to use a LR 5 key on an older LR. While an intermediate version of OS X may be easier on your system and may allow a newer version of LR than LR3, if it is not current you still have to get that old version of LR from an alternate channel.
If you have an easy way to clone your system I would try upgrade you Yosemite and putting LR 5 on it since you have a key. If it doesn't perform to your satisfaction you can always clone back to 10.5 and seek an alternate solution.
However, was the LR 5 key owned by your previous job along with that other laptop? If so, it violates the license for you to use it.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use FaceTime. There's a FaceTime Support Community where everybody uses FaceTime. • I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow lepard?

I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow lepard?

Last night I posted: I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow leopard?
Today I started the install using a OSX 10.6.4 install dvd.  It would not install on my Macbook. The general requirements were met, the Macbook booted to the dvd but I received the meesage that I could not install the new OS. So, new question: Any advice on where to get the last release of 10.5 Leopard (> 10.5.2)? Also, does anyone know why Snow Leopard won't work? Is Leopard as far as I can go on this machine?

  • HT3275 Since Installing a new hard drive on my 2008 macbook and reconnecting to to time capsule through time machine, I can only get backups since the install.

Since Installing a new hard drive on my 2008 macbook and reconnecting to to time capsule through time machine, I can only get backups since the install.
I receive a message saying identity of backup dis has changed and offers me the choice of either Don't back up or Use this disc.

Time Machine treats any new drive like a new computer. It starts a completely new Time Machine backup. So you now have two backups - a new one and all your old ones.
Visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with managing your Time Machine backups.

  • Late 2008 Macbook -  10.8.5 software update - NO WIRELESS!

Hi, I'm throwing a fit. I updated to the 10.8.5 software a few days ago and it KILLED my wifi. I took my late 2008 macbook to Apple where they reinstalled the operating system. I mentioned to them that there are discussions on here about other users having their wifi killed after updating, specific to the late 2008 macbooks. The folks over at Apple clearly didn't like me telling them that. Anywho, they reinstalled the OS and it STILL doesn't work. They claim I need a new airport extreme? ***?
WHY? After I update my software and WIFI doesn't work, now I'm stuck? DID THE ENGINEERS IN CUPERTINO FORGOT TO TEST THE SOFTWARE UPDATE ON MACBOOK 2008 MODELS?
Why doesn't Apple have an official Facebook or Twitter? Oh right, so people like me can't publically complain?
Has anyone else brought their macbooks to Apple for this nonsense and actually had them fix it?

    Hi all,
    I have a fix!
just got off the phone with tier 2 apple tech support.
I have a mackbook 2008 and when I upgraded to 10.8.5 my wifi was completely broken.
Went through all of the typical reset PRAM, remove battery...etc.
    Here is the fix:
    Go to network prefs
    remove the existing wifi configuration
         select wifi
select the - (minus sign) at the bottom left of the window.
Select Shut Down from the Apple menu.
    Restart the computer.
Open Network prefs and select the + (Plus sign) at the bottom left of the window
For me, WIfi connection was populated already.
    Select Create
Go to the menu bar and you should now see all of your typical networks displayed.
    Select your network.
Waallla! Sanity restored and your Macbook is back in action.
    Have a great day!!

  • 2008 MacBook and Mac OS X 10.9

If I have a 2008 MacBook (black one), can I get  Mac OS X 10.9 or higher  on it? Right now I have 10.6.8. I'm trying to order a book I created on iPhoto and it's telling me I need a new version of iPhoto but when I go to App Store to purchase new iPhoto it's telling me I need Mac OS X 10.9 or higher.
    Thoughts?

The App Store version of iLife ‘11 programs (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band & iWeb) will only work with 10.7 or 10.88 with the latest update requiring 10.9. You can get the iLife ’11 DVD which will run on 10.6 on eBay or Amazon.com fairly cheap.
