  • 2008 Macbook Pro overheating problems

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro that I recenetly upgraded to Lion, it seems like Lion has made the overheating issues worse. My fan is almost constantly running despite being on a cool table. Is there anything I can do to make the overheating stop? I have tried resetting the battery but that did nothing. Thanks!

    Try resetting the SMC:

If that does not help, install iStat pro (from the Internet-free) and post the temperatures and applications that you are using at the time.

  • SQL 2008 R2 SSRS Security Problems

    Hello,
We have SSRS running on SQL 2008 R2, using a Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server. When we setup Systems users and also roles such as Browser all that goes through. The issue is, the security does not take effect on the system.
For example <domainuser>\<domainuser> can login to the site and traverse ANY folders, even ones that have folder security set, not inheritening permissions. I've came to realize it seems the Windows Group "Users" applies to who can
get into the server. If we do not have domain users or specific logins in the Windows group you just keep getting a popup for login going to the main SSRS home.
I do not the behavior concerning windows group by design but at any rate adding all domain users we then perceive the folder and site settings apply to folders and report access on the Report manager. It does not simply work. Any users  can get into
the admin folder (Which has only 3-4 people with access) and run anything. It is as if the SSRS permissions simply do not work. I've tried using a server account and also Network Service (Which it is set to now).
Has anyone ran into this issue and have any ideas how to resolve it? I understand the BROWSER role has access to "View Folders" but I see no granular other than folder and item permissions being set to not allow specific folders to be accessed.
    I appreciate your time,
    KT

    Hi KT,
Per my understanding that you have set the security in the report server but the some of the user still get some extra permission, right?
Generally, Reporting Services uses role-based security to grant user access to a report server, and there are two types of roles:
    Item-level roles and System-level roles.
By default, Reporting Services has assigned both System Administrator roles (System-level) and the Content Manager role (Item-level) to the BUILTIN\Administrators group. So, the user that is in the local administrators group will
perform the role  as ”Content Manager” without extra settings, you can check if the users who have extra permissions was in this group,if the domain user in this group, please try to remove it and add it in the Local Users and Groups other
    then Administrators group :
You have menioned that the user shouldn't have permission to the Admin folder but now they have access.
Please check the security of the admin folder to make sure the users were not in the list of the groups and users as below:
If the issue still exists, please check all the folder one by one to make sure this is not any inheried problem and re-set the security.

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro WIFI problems

Hi Guys - got a 3 week old Macbook pro - gave my old Acer to the dog - but will now have to try and get it back because I'm having all sorts of problems with the WIFI connection - sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't - there doesn't seem to be any reason for it failing - my Netgear router is working fine (I've built a Multimedia network with 8 of these Netgear routers so I know when they are working correctly) - I've tried all the usual things - switching off, renewing the IP address, typing a manual IP address, etc etc - nothing works - then he-presto - every thing's back again - one thing I have noticed is that even when you are connected to your router and have a good strong connection the Airport device seems to be still scanning for routers - is this because the signal level has dropped, or is it something built into the firmware. Once locked on does the system know that this is the station you want to stay locked onto even though there maybe a stronger signal close by, even on the same channel
Obviously there is a serious problem with the system as so many people have highlighted, I just want to keep the discussion going and hopefully Apple will get their act together - this is my first Mac - not a good experience for a convert, although every thing else is fine - Now to the dog, don't think this is going to be easy as he's found the doggytube website

One thing to try is making the network "G Only" instead of mixed. I have found that the "N" networks are still really flaky. I ran into this today with a brand new linksys router. It would connect but could not get DNS to save its life. Switched the linksys to "G only" network and the problem went away.

  • Late 2008 Macbook Air Hinge Problem

Hi guys, I bought a used Macbook Air a few months ago, I absolutely love it. However the hinge has been getting kinda loose, to the point where the screen will start to fall backwards if the laptop is moved at all. I am told Apple replaces the hinges for out of warranty Macbook Airs, but this one has dents in the corners from previous owners, although it is in good condition overall. The Apple store is very far from me, is it still worth my time to bring it in or is that automatically considered user damage?
    Thanks!
    RIP STEVE!

Maybe, but not conclusively. Try it again, but for security I would make a backup if you don't already have one.
If the drive cannot be repaired this way, then you should erase the drive and reinstall OS X:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on
the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero
Data option to one-pass. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If this doesn't work then the drive should be replaced.

  • How to secure connection in sql server 2008? my main problem is which certificate should i add in mmc

i'm recently working on hardening of sql server 2008. now i face with a problem. my problem is  how to secure connection in sql server 2008?  my main problem is which certificate should i add in mmc? what are these certificates about?and guide
me in choosing the appropriate certificate.
and how should i know that the connection in sql server is secured?
plz guide me from the beginning cause i'm rookie in this subject.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi sqlfan,
Question 1: my problem is how to secure connection in sql server 2008?
Microsoft SQL Server can use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt data that is transmitted across a network between an instance of SQL Server and a client application. For more information about Encrypting Connections to SQL Server, please refer to the following
    article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189067(v=sql.105).aspx
Question 2: my main problem is which certificate should i add in mmc? what are these certificates about?and guide me in choosing the appropriate certificate.
To install a certificate in the Windows certificate store of the server computer, you will need to purchase/provision a certificate from a certificate authority first. So please go to a certificate authority to choose the appropriate certificate.
For SQL Server to load a SSL certificate, the certificate must meet the following conditions:
The certificate must be in either the local computer certificate store or the current user certificate store.
The current system time must be after the Valid from property of the certificate and before the Valid to property of the certificate.
The certificate must be meant for server authentication. This requires the Enhanced Key Usage property of the certificate to specify Server Authentication (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1).
The certificate must be created by using the KeySpec option of AT_KEYEXCHANGE. Usually, the certificate's key usage property (KEY_USAGE) will also include key encipherment (CERT_KEY_ENCIPHERMENT_KEY_USAGE).
The Subject property of the certificate must indicate that the common name (CN) is the same as the host name or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server computer. If SQL Server is running on a failover cluster, the common name must match the host
name or FQDN of the virtual server and the certificates must be provisioned on all nodes in the failover cluster.
Question 3: how should i know that the connection in sql server is secured?
If the certificate is configured to be used, and the value of the ForceEncryption option is set to Yes, all data transmitted across a network between SQL Server and the client application will be encrypted using the certificate. For more detail about this,
please refer to Configuring SSL for SQL Server in the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189067(v=sql.105).aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • My 2008 MacBook Pro screen has now got interference across the whole screen. It looks similar to a pre-cable interference from bad reception. What is the problem here?

My 2008 MacBook Pro has interference across the full screen. It looks similar to a pre-cable TV screen with bad reception. Any idea of what the problem might be?

Took it to the Apple Store, they determined it's my screen that's messed up (they connected to another monitor, and since the lines didn't mirror onto the monitor it couldn't have been my GPU making the lines but rather the screen itself), so not connected to my wifi issue or a potential logic board issue, so I'm going to get my screen, wifi card, and trackpad (it's been failing too but that wasn't urgent at all) replaced for $330 using their flat-rate repair service which is much better than I imagined in terms of price.

  • 2008 macbook overheating problems. SOS!

I have had macbook 2008 aluminum body since November 2008. It was a dream for two years until it started overheating & slowing down whenever I'd be browsing the internet on safari, firefox or opera with the cooling fans working overtime. It also occurs when I use a MSOffice applications, Preview, etc., leaving me with a very fancy machine with very limited use. Also, extended use of my macbook with the heating problem tends to cause it to go into sleep mode without much warning (imagine suddenly seeing a black screen & irresponsive mac in your lap!) & it has to be left to "cool off" for about 10-15 minutes before it is usable again.
I've been told it's a hardware glitch that needs to be fixed & it is also the reason why the base of the macbook to sink/curve slightly upwards. This problem is said to occur in white 2008 macbooks as well, which I came to know while discussing with a few friends of mine who own that particular model.
Any help on the matter (i.e. solutions) will be welcome. I live in Pakistan.

    Hey
Try a laptop cooling stand mate, they are quite effective. Also, never use your Mac on a soft surface like a pillow or your lap. And the most important thing is to make sure there isn't anything blocking the air vents.
Run an OS X update to check for fixes.
You could also try resetting the SMC.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
That may fix your fans incase they aren't cooling properly.
Hope I helped and good luck

  • 2008 Macbook Air Screen Hinge Problem

Hi all, so my 2008 Macbook Air's hinge got a little loose, and I was told Apple would replace it for free, so I took it to them. HUGE MISTAKE. After the hinge was replaced the screen didn't fully line up when the laptop was closed and the screen started going out like once every 2 weeks, but only for like a tenth of a second so I never really thought it was a problem. It never did this before Apple fixed the loose hinge. About 6 months after the hinge was replaced, it started doing it daily, and shortly after that it did it every time I open the laptop, so now it officially is a problem for me. I brought it back to Apple and they told me that I would have to pay for an expensive new repair or buy a new laptop, even after I explained to them that the laptop was perfectly fine before they replaced the hinge. They said I should have come within 3 months, but I was back at school and it was not a problem at all then, nor did I think it would be. I brought it to a 3rd party repair shop and they did not open the laptop but they said it looks like the screen cable is being pinched by the new hinge since it is not lined up perfectly. Is there anything that can be done or do I have to buy a new laptop?

I'm a college student with no car or Apple store nearby and the laptop was shipped back to me because of that. If I had to go another week without a laptop that would have been disasterous, but more importantly I had no way of knowing it would stop working or that the slight misalignment was anything other than cosmetic, I'm no tech genius and I clearly wasn't the one who put the laptop together wrong. It wasn't even my fault the hinge got loose in the first place! Sigh, I suppose if they can't make this right I hope I can learn to use Windows.

My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!

    Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying.  Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists.  Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again.  Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance.  If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.
