2008 r2 pdc emulator switched to DHCP for a week

I have an issue I wanted to run by you guys. The quicker the response the better as I'm trying to figure the best course of action.
I have a 2008 r2 DC in my Data Center that holds the FSMO role of PDC emulator. An admin mistakenly swapped its network cable to another NIC card on the server that was set to DHCP so the server has been on DHCP for just short of a week.
My question is, should I switch it back now and get it back on the right IP or by doing that will that cause a USN roll back or something like that.
How are the other DC's viewing this DC right now? Are they even communicating with it or are they viewing the server with the right name but wrong IP as an mistake and not communicating with it. That's what I'm thinking right now looking at the other DCs
but since this is the PDC emulator I wanted to run by others...

Multi-Homing a DC is not recommended. It is recommended that a DC has a single IP address and enabled NIC.

No USN rollback is caused by changing IP settings. Just run ipconfig /registerdns
and restart netlogon on your DC to force it to update its DNS records.

To get a visibility of your DCs and AD replication status, you can use
dcdiag and repadmin commands.

Restart the computer and immediately hold the Option key down.
Select the Recovery partition and continue.
On the next pane, select Disk Utility and continue.
When DU opens, select your hard drive in the left column, click the First Aid tab, the click Repair Disk.
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way.

Configure Domain Controller ( PDC emulator) as NTP source for Cisco switch 6509

My Org consists of 2 DC one Physical and One Virtual. All Roles are on Physical machine. I ran a W32tm /Query /Configuration command on PDC emulator and the results are confusing.My PDC is using time source VMICTimeProvider a syou can see below.
VMICTimeProvider (Local)
DllName: C:\Windows\System32\vmictimeprovider.dll (Local)
Enabled: 1 (Local)
InputProvider: 1 (Local)
My first Question is that Is it Ok for PDC emulator to use this time source or should I change to some Other source like pool.ntp.org or time.windows.com,0x1.
My Second Question is that I have a core switch cisco 6509 and I want this switch to use my NTP server (PDC emulator ) as NTP source,but at present I cannot as I am getting this error on switch.(no select intersectionTP )
Can Any one help ... Its is urgent

You should not make your DCs sync their time with your Hypervisor. This usually ends with time synchronization problem so I would recommend to disable that on your DCs and domain joined VMs and use an external NTP server to sync time on your PDC while using
your AD forest topology for time sync on other DCs and domain-joined computers.

For the CISCO switch, I would recommend asking them in CISCO forums.

PDC Emulator Dynamic Group

Hi,
I'm new to SCOM and have started with some basic monitoring of security events such as those raised when a new users is added to the Domain Admins Group and when a user account lockout occurs.
The latter of these relies on us monitoring the security logs of a Domain Controller, but specifically the PDC emulator for the domain.
We run a multi-domain environment and whilst I could make a group and then explicitely define the Servers that hold the PDC Emulator role it seems an unwise way to do things as ultimately it means we have to change the group memberships if we ever move the
role.
Is there any way to make a group that will dynamically populate? I've had a look at defining such a group but I can't see anything under the dynamic section that I could use to identify the Server holding the PDC emulator role.
Grateful for any assistance people can offer.

The PDC emulator role is stored as a string on each instance of the DC role.
It would be technically feasible to create a discovery based on the output from a script to identify the FSMO role holder however this would take some time to test/implement. In this case I would simply monitor every DC and use consolidation rules to supress
duplicate alerts. This would also mean that you get the information from the originating DC (as the event is logged at the local DC first and then replicated to the DC hosting the PDC emulator role), this could potentially highlight issues with one DC/site
causing account lockouts so could be beneficial in the long run.

Transferring PDC Emulator and Time Server Roles to New 2008 R2 DC

We are upgrading our Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2008 R2, and I introduced the first 2008 R2 domain controller into the environment. Currently the PDC emulator role is running on a Windows 2003 DC, which is configured to sync its time with external time
servers.
My question is very similar to what was asked in the following post:

However, what I would like to know is if I should first transfer the PDC emulator role before performing the instructions shown in the thread? Or do I transfer the PDC emulator role after running the commands shown in the thread that are to be run
on the old PDC emulator? Hopefully that makes sense.

You may perform the following steps:
1.
On the old PDC Emulator, run the following commands:
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /reliable:no /update
net stop w32time
net start w32time
2.
Transfer the PDC Emulator to the new Domain Controller.
3.
On the new PDC Emulator, run the following command:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:PEERS /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
Please set for
PEERS the time source as listed above, either with it’s IP address or DNS name. If more than one is needed separate them with a space in between and don't forget the quotes: "time.domain.com time1.domain.com".

PDC is virtual running on VMware. It is not syncing with ESX host, it is an NTP server syncing extrernally. All other DC's / Clients using NT5DS (Domain hierarchy). Incidentily the ESX host sync with external time source also.

Setting up second domain at work. It tries to take over DHCP for both domains.

So I have an existing older domain (Server 03 r2) and it's working normally.
I'm setting up a second domain, server 08 r2. Each time I activate DHCP on it it begins handling IPs for both domains causing other issues related to DNS.
They are different IP Schemas. The existing functional is a 192.168._._. The new is internaly 169.254._._, and has a static IP for the other NIC and ultimately the internet connection. The internal networks exist on the same subnet mask for a level of crossover
for future data transitions.
On the 08 server I'm also having DNS issues. It works fine if I have both NICs plugged in, but not with just the external IP plugged in. It would appear it was giving out it's own domain IPs and getting it's DNS from the existing domain, which puzzles me
as all these items are set to static on the cards.
I would love any available help.

Do the same DHCP zones exist within the same switch or VLAN? If so, they're both going to offer DHCP to any device that requests it regardless of what domain that machine may already belong to. The first DHCP request that the device sees will
win. You can really only have one per switching segment.
For the DNS issue, when you say the existing domain, do you mean the 2003R2 domain? From a command prompt if you run ipconfig /all do you see the 2003 R2 server in there as a DNS Server? Do you see the 2008 R2 server listed? If you don't
see the 2003 R2 server, it may just be that you're getting results from a broadcast.
You may just need to split these two domains onto separate VLANs if they're not already.

Switch Off rounding for BOM Components in Sales Order

Hi all,
We are using a multi-level sales BOM that has finished goods as components. These materials have a rounding profile attached to them. However, we want the rounding profile to be active ONLY when these materials are sold individually and not as a part of the BOM. Is there a way to switch off rounding for child level materials when they are a part of the BOM ?

CUCM can perform DHCP functions, but it's not meant to replace this functionality from a router or switch, which are the most common places to configure DHCP.
I assume you'll have at least one of those, why not configure it there??

Configuring autonomous 1141 to do DHCP for Guest WiFi

I have an existing setup consisting of:
Windows Server - doing DHCP for private wired/wireless
Cisco 1141 Autonomous WAP with only private wireless access.
ASA 5505 (with very basic licensing)
HP switch
The customer wants to have guest WiFi.
The guest WiFi is going out to the internet via a seperate VLAN/interface on the ASA.
Can the 1141 do DHCP for the guest WiFi? Or do I need to do it via the ASA?

It could but you would have to relay it from the ASA. So might as well just use the ASA for the scope.

3 reasons why i won't switch to Lightroom for now

Lightroom is so nice, so intuitive & user-friendly that I almost switch from Bibble to Lightroom even if there are some very important features missing in order to call lightroom a professional grade application.
Here are the major reasons why i wont switch to Lightroom for now:
1. Missing a good sharpening tool
2. Missing a good noise reduction tool like Noise Ninja
3. Missing an automated lens correction tool like PTLens
I think the last 3 will not be a problem any more when Adobe releases the SDK When do you think the SDK will be available ?
Would also be very useful:
1. Ability to export a slideshow to DVD (as a wedding photographer, i usually provide my customers with a low res slideshow of their pictures at the end of the wedding day).
2. Option to print to file or option to export to any color profile (the lab where I send most of my print work have their printer profiled & they provide those custom profiles). As a work around, i can for now have an export action that do the profile conversion thru a Photoshop droplet this work but would be better to have that feature built in
In order to work around for the print to file or to jpg file that Im missing, I tried 1 of those virtual printer driver like Miraplacid Publisher It does work but there seems to be a problem with color management... When I print from Photoshop to this virtual printer, I get a jpg file that match exactly what I see on the screen when I try the same with lightroom, I get a jpg file where colors are not exactly what Im expecting
Should those features be available, I would not hesitate even 1 minute to switch to lightroom.

My answer to your reasons:
1) and 2) I just take care of taking sharp pictures. I can't see the need of a sharpening tool. I use LR as my digital darkroom, if I want to retouching a picture I have PS Elements and Noise Ninja. AND the new LR 1.1 has a much improved noise reduction and sharpening tool.
OK. I'm not saying that everybody should learn how to shoot properly so that the use of sharpening or noise reduction wouldn't be required, but there are IMHO other tools that can fit the requirements of the casual photographer or photoblogger.
The same for 3. I never needed any lens correction mechanism. I can't see a reason for that either. I don't have lenses that need any correction and I don't like to do fancy stuff on my pictures.
LR gives me exactly what I need, and waht I need is a program to download and work with several hundreds of pictures from my digital SLR, this means basically cropping and applying a colour profile. And IMHO LR does this pretty well, plus all the catalogue and managing stuff. I can care myself for the rest pretty well.
