2008 R2: Want to use GP to add a network printer for certain Computers
Hi all. This is a single-domain 2008 R2 AD. It's very basic. All usrs are in the Users container in ADUC and all computrs are in the Computers container. However there are two classes of users which I'll indicate here as Level 1 and
Level 2 staff. Level 1 staff are about 80% of all users, and these people share about 10 computers in a sort of shared computer room area.
I recently discovered that whne I log in as a user, and set their default printer, the next time I log in it just gets set back to the Microsoft XPS thingy.
either way, my goal here is to do two things:
- set teh default printer on a per-computer basis if possible and not per user
- set this printer to always use two-sided printing (a setting normally found under the printer's Printing Preferences > Finishing tab.
The printer in question is an HP with an embedded Jetdirect so it is an IP printer, not shared from someone's computer or anything like that.
So first, do I need to manipulate the Users or Computers in AD Users & Computers somehow so the settings only apply to certain items? Or would I use that Filtering option for GPO editing?
Oh and also, I really do not want to get into login scripts, or any scripting at all. I would much prefer Group Policy.
The server is 2008 R2 and the clients are Win 7 Professional (32 & 64bit mixed)

I was running Foxfire 3.6.9 and wanted to use FTP Program add-on and it did not appear to load but appeared but then would be installed but not run or appear under tools. So I deleted Foxfire 3.6.9 and down loaded to 3.5.9 so it could get FTP and it is doing the same could not install. Even after I registered my copy. Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check. -
One of the computers that had our Itunes account on it crashed. We want to be able to add the account to our new computers and future computers but it shows that we have used 4 of 5 computers. Once we hit 5 are we out of luck or do they revolve? Like putting on number 6 will delete number 1?

This is not how it works.
You can only have a maximum of 5 computers Authorised at any one time.
If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes, go to "view your account info" on the itunes store, deauthorise all five,
(Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)
Then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time. -

iCloud does not provide general file storage or backup, so you cannot back up your Documents folder using it. You will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options (some are free):

It can be done with analog but not digital thanks to "good 'ol" HDCP copy protection which apple (and most other manufacturers) unfortunately respect.
So you can take the analog output from your cable box (component -- 5 cables -- if it has it but generally they all have composite -- 3 cables) and feed it into some kind of converter or into some appropriate pci card for your mac pro. But none of them are going to let you directly use the HDMI output from the box to your computer.
Bottom line, no single cord is going to work and it will never be the higher quality digital picture you get on your tv.
Some qualification: There are boxes that I think support hdmi input. Look at Blackmagic. But I still don't think you can get around the HDCP from the cable box (might depend on the kind of cable box). -

Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.

Grtz T.I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems. -

my airport extreme has connected to a Tplink router, i set my AE in Create network, so i get a problem of Double NAT. How can i repair this probleme because i have to use TPlink for my IP TV and i want to use AE to creat my network and the guest NW. No, not unless it is simply a network connection.
How is your IPTV being provided.. if it is using a separate vlan or separate vpi/vci in the adsl connection. Who is your ISP?
Is the TP-Link ADSL?
Is the IPTV using a separate voice channel on adsl?
Or a different vlan.

unable to find appropriate driver for my mcbook air using a ricoh aficio mp36501SP network printer. had similar problem with another ricoh copier/printer, but was able to resolve that problem entering ip address. this one wants job code. i don't believe mac allows for input on job code or printer code for permission to print
I'm having similar problems with an HP OfficeJet 6500. One suggestion that improved the situation, but did not totally solve the problem, was to select "OfficeJet Pro L7700" for its drivers.
One other suggestion is to turn off the printer, then simultaneously hold down the "#" and "9" keys and turn the printer back on. This hot key seems to reset the printer to factory defaults, allowing you to set things up anew.
Finally, kvetch to HP. Their networking software clearly has problems in its relationship to OSX, but nobody on either side seems motivated to bring in a good therapist. -

I don't want to use it as a wireless network as I have the modem supplied by Optium. I want it to back up my computers.
Plug it into the main modem which must also be a router.
Put the TC in bridge mode..
Then go to the wireless page and either turn it off.. but I recommend roaming.. as the TC is much faster on the 5ghz band and backups can drag down wireless performance of the whole network.
Roaming setup thusly. ...just give the TC the same wireless name= SSID as the main router.. same security.. WPA2 AES= WPA2 Personal and the same security password.. and then the computer will simply pick the best wireless to connect to.. without creating a second wireless network.. although it is not really such an issue to do so. -
Want to use a TV as a third monitor for Digital Cinema Display....HELP!

Here's my set up, please tell me where I am going wrong:
I have 2 22" LCD Monitors that I use for my main work. I added a second card to my MacPro so that I could add an additional monitor. Now I have a DVI to HDMI cable going to my Plasma that I want to use as playback for clients and such. Here's where it gets weird... In After Effects, I can use the Plasma in Digital Cinema Preview for Playback and Previews...works great. Then, when I open up Final Cut I have problems. First, when I go to "Digital Cinema Desktop - Full Screen" it display one frame and stay on that one frame even during playback. So then I changed my Sequence settings thinking my TV couldn't handle that Sequence. No I get a White Screen with no playback at all, not even the one frame. Now the weird part is that if I change the TV to my "Main Screen" in Monitor Prefs, and set Digital Cinema to "Main" it plays back fine. So, if I can playback with it as my main, why can't I playback otherwise? And...if it works in After Effects, why is Final Cut Having Problems with it? It's set to "All Frames" and "Desktop Mirroring". Thoughts? I have seen this set up work before...what am I doing wrong?I'm trying to find out much the same thing. I would assume that anyone knows the answers can help both of us.
I'm purchasing a new Mac Pro desktop. I also use final cut but not after effects.
I actually have 4 monitors to choose from. 2 Dell 19" - One 27" Apple cinema display and a spector High Def 1080i monitor that has a DVI input.
I would like to use one of the Dell's as my primary home desk top monitors with folders and all the usual dock and stuff. I would like to use the cinema display as my primary final cut work surface.
I would like to use the HD monitor to show HD footage and use it as a client monitor. Remember it has a DVI input.
I've talked with the folks at the Local Apple store and they are not sure if I will get a real HD signal on the HD monitor if I add a second radeon 2700 card to the computer and take on of those DVI outputs and attach it to the HD monitor.
If thats not possible can I use the apple cinema display as my playback monitor?
Or do I have to go with a conversion box like a mxo, AJA board, or decklink box.
The goal is to have two monitors for the program and One monitor in HD for the client monitor,
