2008R2 RD Termimnal Server stuck at apply computer settings over an hour

Hi Everyone
I am currently experience issue with my 2008R2 RD Terminal Servers. Every time I reboot the server it stuck in the "Apply computer settings" screen for few hours. These RD Terminal server is part of our NLB cluster. User connect to the
RD terminal Servers via FQDN for the NLB cluster VIP . Each servers has dual network adaptor. The second network adaptor is link to a NLB cluster. If one of the servers stuck in the "Apply computer settings
screen" Open NLB manger from one of the RD Terminal server, NLB manager will end up not responding.
I have found a way to allow me to login to the problematic RD terminal server by disabling the network on the network adaptor of the vm. This allow me to login. Then I quickly re enable the network on the adaptor. Users complained when
they log in to that server stuck at "Apply computer settings" screen
We do have GPO policy apply to these terminal servers I have moved one of the RD Terminal server to another OU with minimum policy that makes no different.
Appreciate any advice
Thanks

I have managed to resolve the issue by going into safe mode and disable windows management instrumentation service after reboot I am able to login . remove VMware tools. restart the server. apply computer setting disappear. almost like something is conflicting
with VMware tools

  • Server stucks at Applying Computer Settings after every reboot

    Hello!
On one of our sites containing around 15 servers, whenever a terminal server is rebooted, it gets stuck on Applying Computer Settings for around 15 minutes. If it is un-joined from the domain then no issue. Moreover, once it is done with this delay, no time
delay is observed in user login. But after every reboot, 15 - 20 mins delay is always observed. Domain is the same at other sites and no issue is being observed else where.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
In addition, for a test please try to modify the behavior of HTTP.SYS to depend on another service being started first. To do this, perform the following steps:
    1. Open Registry Editor
    2. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP and create the following Multi-string value:
    DependOnService
    3.  Double click the new DependOnService entry
    4. Type CRYPTSVC in the Value Data field and click OK.
    5. Reboot the server
NOTE: Please ensure that you make a backup of the registry / affected keys before making any changes to your system.

  • Parallels Desktop getting Stuck on "Applying Computer Settings"

I get it installed and updated, but everytime I complete the installation of PC-cillin Internet Security 2006 and reboot, Windows XP hangs on 'Applying Computer Settings.'
Anyone have a clue what to due to advance it beyond this point? I have uninstalled and and reinstalled it already one and applied all updated.

No, I dont think so as I had XP running fine and in
fact even had it hooked into my local home Windows
2003 server on my home domain.
Has to be something with PC-cillin.
James, sorry, what I meant was your title says "Parallels Desktop getting Stuck", and to me it sounds like Parallels is working fine, its XP that is stuck on "Applying Computer Settings"? (could very well be PC-cillin, just not sure if Parallels is the issue)
Some Windows XP docs on it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832161
(mentions trying to unplug the network cable to see if it loads that way)
    http://steven.vorefamily.net/2004/06/windows-xp-hangs-applying-computer.html
    http://microsoft.mailarchive.ca/public.windowsxp.security_admin/2004-10/2366.htm l
    (DNS issues)
I don't see any specific issues mentioned on the Parallels board about PC-cillin, I guess the easiest thing is to boot into safe mode, remove PC-cillin completely and restart without it. I've run AVG on my XP copy running on Parallels with no issues. Good luck!

  • Stuck on "Applying computer settings"?

I've got a three year old server running Server 2008R2 that has never shown any signs of a problem but today it blue screened and rebooted and after that it never gets to the login prompt getting stuck on this "Applying computer settings"
    message.
I've read a number of threads about this and several suggested fixes including a Microsoft FixIt, but my problem now is that I can't seem to login in Safe Mode in order to run the FixIt or any other repair. Because this is the only DC in the domain I can't
login using the domain administrator account, then for some reason I also can't login to the local administrator account. The password for the local administrator is not the same as the password for the domain administrator and I can't find any record in the
folder that's kept on this server of what the local admin password was and the folder which should contain a password reset disk is missing.
Is there any workaround for this problem when you can't login in safe mode?
    - Norm

"then for some reason I also can't login to the local administrator account" Domain controllers don't have local administrator accounts.  When they are promoted to a DC, the 'local administrator' is the domain administrator.
"Because this is the only DC in the domain "  OUCH!  One of the many reasons Microsoft always recommends having at least two DCs.
Option 1.  Go to your latest DC backup and recover, and hope that you have not made too many changes to your DC since your last backup.  With a single DC, hopefully you were creating a new backup after each known change.
Option 2.  Depending on what you thing you can do, boot into WinPE and manipulate files on the disk.  Obviously, you will need to know the specifics of what you are trying to change.  Sometimes the Fixit instructions provide the details necessary.

  • Windows server 2008 R2 stuck at applying computer settings

    Hello all:
i have seen other posts with this same problem, but none of them apply to my situation.
i have a set of virtual servers, mounted over Vsphere 5.5 running on XenApp, all basically with the same configuration, except for the hosted applications, however i only have problems with some of those servers.
    i have tried:
placing the servers on an empty OU --no change
remove the native VMware network driver and install intel drivers --no change
created the registry key : HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\DependOnService
    (value CRYPTSVC) --no change
run winsock on the affected servers --worked...after a week the same situationis present.
i tried changing the DNS server order -- worked
i then tried to bring the DNS servers to the established order, and the servers where able to boot propperly.
at this point im out of ideas!
    sorry, i meant R2!

If I understand well, by tweaking the IP Settings DNS configuration, you were able to fix the problem.
I would recommend that you use the IP settings I recommended here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
As for the member servers / computers, make sure that they point only to internal DNS servers for DNS resolution. T troubleshoot DNS resolution, you can use
    NSlookup with debug mode: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29184.nslookup-for-beginners.aspx

  • Windows Server 2008 hangs in "Applying computer settings" after installing Sharepoint 2010

    Hi!
I have a server which is designated to be a Sharepoint server, I have successfully installed the server, SQL server R2 and Sharepoint 2010, but right after Sharepoint Server 2010 is installed the nex time I reboot the machine it hangs in "Applying computer
settings" I have tried reinstalling the server several times, improving the server specs.
The installations run just fine I can even see the sharepoint site, and make any configuration, the issue comes when I restart the server (for updates for example..)
Can someone help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Carlos R Vargas M

    Hi,
It may take some time for configuration after the new installation. Please wait patiently. If it still hangs, please refer to the following article:

  • Can't get WRT54G to start up, gets stuck at "checking computer settings"

Can't get WRT54G to start up, gets stuck at "checking computer settings" at 99% Please help!
If I hit the escape key it will go to the password screen, it looks like the password is already entered for me so I hit enter, but then it just goes back to "checking computer settings" and won't go past 99% again.'
Sorry but the last post mistakenly said the wrong number so I posted this.

If you are running the install CD that came with the router, the behavior you describe is exactly what happened when I tried using the CD today. The CD didn't seem to work with my computer's fixed IP address (not in the 192.168.1.0 network.)
What worked for me was to set my computer to have the fixed IP address 192.168.1.2. Then I was able to contact the router using its web interface at 192.168.1.1 amd make the necessary settings.
The password had NOT been changed from the default despite the install CD software seemingly accepting a new password. The default password worked.

  • Clients hangs at "Applying Computer Settings" for 10 + Minutes intermittantly

On a handful of our machines we are experiencing an issue with long hangs at Applying Computer Settings before getting to the logon screen.
I have checked for network and domain issues but everything seems to be working as expected and for the majority there hasn't been any issues.
I ran the userenv log and have received the following, most notably the long delay at 17:03:33...

I have been downloading Mountain Lion for MAC for over 4 hrs. and it seems to be stuck about 2/3 of the way through.  I have a I mac that is only 2 yrs old has 8 GB memory and I updated all software, checked utilitie for any disc repairs andbacked up everything before I started this process.  Can someone tell me what to do  Right now the version is OSX 10.6.8.

Let it go... these DL's take forever, depending on the spped of your connection and the traffic on the servers.
If by morning it is still sitting there restart and the DL should pick up from where it left off.

  • IPhone 4 has been backing up to computer for over 12 hours HELP

My iPhone 4 has been backing up for over 12hours and is only at step 2 of 6! Is this normal. It has never been backed up. Surely this is taking too long though?

The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps.
