2008R2 server crash caused by srv2.sys, MS Netherlands SA support tells me to ..

Last night 1 of our 2008r2 sp1 Enterprise crashed and auto rebooted. With the debugger tool I checked the minidump and at the bottom it states:
Probably caused by : srv2.sys ( srv2+212e )
This is the SMB driver. There is a KB that acknowledges that there is a bug in this driver and a hot fix is available. However.. the date of the driver in the hotfix is older than the date of the driver in use by the server. Get my point? Should I install
the "older" hotfix or not.
This is the KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2394911
I contacted MS SA support in the Netherlands and the literally stated that the server is now up and running so there is no problem hence they can not support this. Ridiculous. I told him that we have a server running that we can't rely on. They did not care..
I asked they guy to ask his manager and they just refuse to support me. Instead they sad I should contact a MS Partner because the question was about "implementation ".
Can you imagine that I not impressed at all by this...

Hello,
So it is a BSOD.
Please start by that:
Update all possible drivers
Uninstall all unused programs
Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
Perform a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Disable temporary all security softwares you have
Run memtest86+ to check your RAM. If an error was detected then replace the faulty RAM or contact your manufacturer Technical Support for assistance
Once done, check results. If this does not help then use Microsoft Skydrive to upload dump files. Once done, post a link here.
You can also contact Microsoft CSS for assistance.

  • Server crash caused by "Potential VM growth in DirectoryService"

    Our mail server experienced a crash yesterday. The system log reports "Potential VM growth in DirectoryService...". The Intel Xserve is fully patched to 10.5.5 and no updates are available. This is the first time we have experienced this problem.
    From what I have read in past discussions, I thought Mac OSX Server 10.5.5 was supposed to correct this issue from occurring.
    The specific error from the system log is:
    Dec 9 15:53:17 mail DirectoryService[26]: Potential VM growth in DirectoryService since client PID: 0, has 850 open references when the warning limit is 500.
    Here is the hardware overview from system_profiler:
    Model Name: Xserve
    Model Identifier: Xserve2,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
    L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 6 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: XS21.006C.B06
    SMC Version: 1.26f3
    LOM Revision: 1.1.0
    Serial Number: G88100NFX8S
    Here is the Software Overview from system_profiler:
    System Version: Mac OS X Server 10.5.5 (9F33)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.5.0
    Boot Volume: Hermes Server HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
    Computer Name: xxxxxxxxx
    User Name: xxxxxxxxx
    Time since boot: 14:53

    Currently it seems that the "only" problem is that there's too many users - even though the number is alarming low (eg 1-200). My thought is a faulty design of OS X Server (someone PLEASE correct me and prove me wrong!)

  • Stop 0x0000001e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff8800a07d7f0 - Windows Server 2008r2 SP1 patch level March 2014 - WinDbg probably caused by mrxsmb10.sys

    we run several Windows Server 2008r2 SP1 Enterprise as VM on two Stratus Avance xenserver based VM hosts. On both hosts we run a VM as file-server, RDS server including a little bit of DFS traffic. the underling physical machines are Intel based S5520UR
    with plenty full of needed resources, running since 2012 more or less without problems.
    Recently we on both physical hosts the STOP error 0x0000001e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff8800a07d7f0, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000).
    This has happended now twice and we have no clue or idea why the Stop error arrives now were the VM is running for month without such an error.
    We have tried to analyze the problem with WnDbg and the result reported: Probably caused by : mrxsmb10.sys ( mrxsmb10!MRxSmbDeferredCreate+18a )
    We have searched for a solution and have identified some hotfixes which could be related to our problem
    Hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2521220/en-us
    and / or
    Hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2764302/en-us
    The latter one matches the typical use of the VMs in question, file-server function and a flat file based database system with corresponding file I/O. (However, no dramatic system load and approx. 20 concurrent users on the system.)
    The file NTFS.sys in the folder System32 are with a newer date and version as the version from the hotfix and we are not sure if this would be a good idea to replace it with the hotfix version.
    As we are a small cap company we could not test the outcome of such a change of essential OS files and we tend to stay away from this approach. On the other hand we have a high pressure to solve this issue as we have to rely on the function of this core
    system.
    WinDbg points us towards mrxsmb10.sys as a possible root cause, but my believe is limited and we have not the knowledge to understand the output of the memory dump file. (mrxsmb was over the last 15 years always a difficult “thing”!)
    Would someone so kind to point us to some useful steps or direct us to any helpful advise?
    Thank you!

    Hi Jason,
    Do you install Exchange 2013 on your server? If so, the issue could be due to an Exchange Service process terminated WININIT.EXE. You could refer to the article below to resolve the issue:
    Exchange Server 2013 restarts frequently after Cumulative Update 2 is installed
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2883203
    If the issue still exists, it is not effective for us to debug the crash dump file here in the forum. Therefore, I would like to suggest that you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can
    assist with your request.
    To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

  • Policy Agent 2.1 causing Sun Web Server Crash?

    Running Sun web server 6.0 SP7 on Solaris. Policy Agent 2.1 installed on web server. Identity Server on different Solaris box. Seeing the following error in log file for Web Server:
    [10/Mar/2004:11:21:25] catastrophe (14462): Server crash detected (signal SIGSEGV)
    [10/Mar/2004:11:21:25] info (14462): Crash occurred in NSAPI SAF validate_session_policy
    [10/Mar/2004:11:21:25] info (14462): Crash occurred in function xmlFreeProp from module /opt/SUNWam/lib/libxml2.so.2
    [10/Mar/2004:11:21:25] failure (14461): Child process admin thread is shutting down
    [10/Mar/2004:11:21:26] info (15195): Installing a new configuration
    This happens sporadically. I've patched the web server to SP7 and made sure it's using a newer version of the JDK (1.4.2_03) - any ideas of what might be causing this? It's not always the same part of the code (ie, not the same function) where it blows up. Sometimes there is no error at all - it just takes the web server process to 50% CPU utilization until we kill it.
    Any thought would be most appreciated. I'm also posting this in the web server forum (posted here since it seems to be related to the policy agent)
    Thanks,
    Pat

    You were absolutely correct
    I've resolved this issue - the problem was caused by two things:
    1. There is a new version of a library called libxml2.so that I had to get from Sun (they provided version 2.6.7)
    2. My web server with the agent on it is on a seperate box from the identity server. These two servers were out of sync in terms of their system time (ie, the solaris box with the agent / web server was about 8 minutes ahead of the solaris box with the identity server)
    Once both of these things were fixed (the time issue most importantly), the web server would not hang anymore.

  • Server Crash after Updating Licence Key

    Hi Team,
    Recently I had met with a strange issue in which around 5 servers shows recovery screen after the server reboot . The only change happened was the server license key was updated . Initially it was noticed that these servers were showing activate Windows
    screen and we had provided the valid license key. Later the application team had rebooted the server and it went to recovery, Another server I had rebooted and it also followed the same result .  In recovery console it was noted that active partition
    was changed and in C:\ bootmgr was missing I had fixed those issues and later server boots up and showing many sys files missing in drivers folder .
    Anyone aware of similar issues ? I strongly believe updating license key wont crash the server .

    Hi,
    I agree with you. Updating license keys should not crash the server. Meanwhile, would you please let me know
    version information of the problematic server OS?
    Based on current situation, it’s hard to say what cause to the server crash (seem to be related to .sys files).
    When you complete the process of Startup Repair, will be able to access the server? If can, please open Event Viewer and check if find some related events.
    If can’t, please access system recovery options. Then run
    sfc /scannow command to scan all protected system files and run
    chkdsk command to check disk state.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • InDesign server crashes every time when calling deleteEmptyPages in script

    We are evaluting InDesign Server CS6 on a Windows server environment. We have an idml file, sample xml file that is tagged to specific frames inside the idml file and a script file for execution on the server. This script opens the idml file using the app.open api, imports the xml file and export the ID file to a PDF. Because we have table content with variable row count, we are using the smart text reflow functionality. Setting the text preferences with smart text reflow appears to be working but we also want to delete the empty second page when the content is less than a page. So, we also tried using the deleteEmptyPages property document's textPreferences. When this is set to true and the script is executed on the ID server using the sampleclient, the server crashes with the following message. When I do the same thing in the InDesign UI using the preferences options, it works as expected.
    The script looks like below - is this the right way to do it?
    var myInddFile = app.scriptArgs.get("idfile"); //"X:/IDFiles/AutoFlow.indd";
    var myXmlFile = app.scriptArgs.get("xmlfile"); //"X:/IDFiles/deleteme.xml";
    var myOutputOptions = "[Smallest File Size]";
    var myPDFPreset = app.pdfExportPresets.itemByName(myOutputOptions);
    var myDoc = app.open (File(myInddFile), OpenOptions.OPEN_COPY);
    myDoc.xmlImportPreferences.ignoreWhitespace = true;
    myDoc.textPreferences.smartTextReflow = true;
    //myDoc.textPreferences.addPages = AddPageOptions.END_OF_STORY;
    //myDoc.textPreferences.limitToMasterTextFrames = true;
    myDoc.importXML (File(myXmlFile));
    //uncommenting this line causes the ID server to crash
    //myDoc.textPreferences.deleteEmptyPages = true;
    var myOutputFile = app.scriptArgs.get("outputfile");//File("X:/IDFiles/sampleX.pdf")
    myDoc.exportFile (ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE,myOutputFile, myPDFPreset)

    Thanks Harbs. We are looking at full automation and so removing the pages manually is not an option. But I did find a script at InTools http://in-tools.com/article/scripts-blog/script-of-the-day-jan-24-2010/ that helps with automating the removal of empty pages. This script appears to be a nice workaround for server side usage. I used it on my document with multiple column text frames and it is removing the empty page as expected. If there is a better way to do this, let me know. Thanks.

  • JDBC Adapter: J2EE server crashes while sending large messages

    We want to use the following scenario to transfer data from a MS SQL Server to SAP BW via XI:
    JDBC Sender Adapter – XI – SAP ABAP Proxy.
    All works fine with a small amount of data. But if the select statement delivers too many record sets and the size of the transformed XML payload is greater then 50 MB the J2EE server crashes. A complete restart is necessary. It seems to be am memory problem.
    Here are the entries from our log files:

    Is this a general problem of the XI or a specific one of our configuration? Is it possible to transfer such large messages via XI? If not, is there a workaround for such scenarios?
    (Memory heap size of the J2EE server is 1024 MB.)

    Hi Nimrod
    In case of such an error I have no entries in channel monitor. So I can't see anything there. I have also no entries in message monitor of the RWB in this case. So I don't get any information with standard XI tools.

    The problem is that the source of my data is not a simple SQL statement but a stored procedure. So I don't know exactly how many records will be delivered. A update command is not possible.

  • Server crashes after router restarts, different routers, same result!

    Hello team,
    I've had this problem before, and it's getting really annoying.
    Every time I restart my router, my server will crash. It's almost always the case. I don't know why. It's not my router, I have tried 3 different routers. I thought maybe my RAM was faulty, that's not the case either.
    Any thoughts?
    p.s.
    my server always assigns its own DNS address to my clients, so when the server crashes, the clients are left without internet. How can I stop this from happening?
    setup: Server 2012 Essentials R2, 2 GB RAM, AMD X2 3800+ CPU.
    edit: this is the dump file it generates. I just restarted my router again, and exact same scenario:

  • Server crashes when doing DBCopy

    We are trying to upgrade to GW2012. We have a new DL360G8 server running SUSE Release 11, kernal 3.0.93-0.5. All HP diagnostics on the computer and raid pass.
    When we do dbcopy to move databases from our existing GW8 system, the server crashes saying there was a raid controller issue. No more details than that.
    We've tried this on 2 new servers - same issue. Only crashes when using DBcopy - not when we copy large files using other methods.
    HP and Novell have not been able to come up with any solutions.
    Anyone have any ideas on this?

    GUI is not needed. You need X and x/gdm installed because of some dependencies in the agents allowing them to expose a GUI if requested, so they need those bindings. But having gdm or X running is not needed at all once the system is installed.
    And again, we saw a very similar issue. Either the scsi driver crashes - which disconnects you SWAP and the OS just seizes up - OR - it would cause so much I/O that the OS could not swap quick enough and you would never be able to operate the GUI to get in. We also saw an issue with the graphics adapters on these servers as well, with the GUI running we would see this behavior, without it, everything was fine.
    On one initially problematic box, we have had, literally, no unplanned downtime for 3 years once we ditched the GUI.
    Also, you can try to limit the number of threads dbcopy is using the -t parameter, e.g.
    /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin/dbcopy -m -p -f -t 3 /source_path /destination_path
    And I just thought of this, since you mention a server to server copy, If the source / destination is a CIFS or NCP mounted share, you can also run into another issue: oplocks. Disable oplocks on both ends, and on the linux box, if using CIFS:
    echo 0 > /proc/fs/cifs/OplockEnabled

  • Server crashes in VC Report (BPM reporting services) 503 Unavailable

    Hello All
    We are facing a problem when try to access a VC Report. In the most cases, when I define filters in the Form filter zone of my report and push the event button (submit), the query hangs and the server crashes whit "Out of Memory" error.
    Do you know why this happen?.
    As a remark, the report only selects over one table (custom bpm reporting data source whit 7 fields) and there's not complex joins. We are running in NW CE 7.3 SP3 and all my VC components corresponds to this version correctly.
    Best Regards
    Julio C Leyva

    Hi Julio,
    This problem is caused by a combination of:
    1. Huge amount of BPM data.
    2. Too little system resources.
    3. issues in the underlying layers that Visual Composer uses.
    Please open a message on BC-BMT-BPM-ANA for this problem. I know they fixed it, but I don't know in which version.
    regards,
    Natty

    Your original post mentions issues with jsp:useBean and jsp:setProperty, now you're talking about tag libraries and directives. Can you be more specific about what you're trying to do? Are you having problems getting JDev to recognize a tag library or are you having problems with the tag library when running the app? What directive are you trying to use that causes the termination error?

    Current thread (0x000000010294d000):  JavaThread "[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'" daemon [_thread_in_native, id=20, stack(0xffffffff62f00000,0xffffffff63000000)]
    siginfo:si_signo=SIGSEGV: si_errno=0, si_code=1 (SEGV_MAPERR), si_addr=0xffffffff5f6ce000
    I ran the suspect code which i believed was causing the issue as a standalone Java program using the same Java executable and it worked fine without any crash.
    Appreciate any inputs / discussion / feedback / thoughts on this topic.
    Good day.

    I just wanted to throw in one more thought.  I have also seen that there is a restart=true parameter.  Maybe if we set this to true, and just issue the command to shut down the server in the script, the managed server will restart on its own.
    Would greatly appreciate any advice!
