2008R2 support

Hi,
When will Windows 2008R2 be supported for the reporting server?

  • Migrate Domain controller 2003 to 2008

    Hi guys,
on my organisation we have two Domain controllers 2003R2.
the idea is to migrate to Windows 2008R2 because we have some servers running on Forest level 2000.
    the network information are :
    Currently servers
    DC1   Server 2003R2   IP 192.168.2.2  ( contain all the FSMO rules )
    DC2  Server 2003R2    IP 192.168.2.2  (( just replication server )
    New servers 2008R2
    DC01  Server 2008R2   IP 192.168.2.3
    DC02  Server 2008R2  IP 192.168.2.4
the idea is add DC01 to the domain that DC1 manage, and migrate the FSMO rolles to the DC1.
after i demote the DC1 i want to reuse it IP on the DC01 on the server.
my question is if i reuse it IP, all statice client will remain working ?
the reason why i need to reuse the IT is because i have about 100 static servers running. and can't change them in one day.
Does Windows 2008r2 support Foreste Level 2000 ?
to add the second replication server do i need to follow some tutorial for this ?
    Please advice !

    Hello,
for IP changes still the same answer as in
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/870c5999-070e-4825-9e8b-4ee50131bdf3/reuse-domain-ip?forum=winserverMigration
and for the functional level, yes. See
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/understanding-active-directory-functional-levels for the details which level can be used with which OS version.
But you should think about raising the levels at least to Windows server 2003 or is there a specific reason that you need Windows 2000?

  • RBS Licensing on a SQL Server Standard 2012 Failover Cluster

I am planning to implement a Sharepoint 2013 installation which is primarily to be used for Document Storage. We are considering using Sharepoint RBS with Filestream with SQL 2012 Standard and as far as I can see on our non-production environments this works
without any issue - i.e. we enable filestream and RBS with Sharepoint and SQL and everything works as expected on our non production systems. In non production we have single SQL Server nodes.
However, in production we have planned to have a 2 node SQL 2012 Standard failover cluster.
    On this page, it indicates
"To run RBS on a remote server, you must be running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on the server that is running SQL Server where the
metadata is stored in the database."
My question is : Am I entitled to use RBS with Filestream on a SQL 2012 Standard Failover Cluster, or is SQL Enterprise required.
If enterprise is required, we will have to remove the RBS. I have reviewed the links below, but cannot see a definitive answer from a licensing perspective

    Hi antrimcoaster,
Indeed, in Microsoft official document, all SQL editions (Express, Standard, Enterprise…) of SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008R2 support RBS (Remote Blob Store), however, as your post, if you run RBS on a remote server, we recommend you use Enterprise
version especially you want to deploy Remote BLOB Storage with SQL Server 2012 in Production environment. Usually, Enterprise edition is more for mirroring, supporting more RAM/CPU, and custom RBS providers and multiple nodes cluster.
If you had setup and configured RBS successfully with SQL Server 2012 standard, and now you need to want to upgrade to SQL Server 2012 Enterprise, I recommend you reconfigure your blob store, you can review the following similar article.

  • Running 2008 R2 DCs - Can we use ADFS from 2012 R2?

Do we have to upgrade our Active Directory DCs to 2012 R2 in order to use ADFS in 2012 R2?  2012R2 uses ADFS 3.0, right?  And that requires GMSA accounts to work in a farm if I understand it right.  Does 2008R2 support GMSAs?  I cannot
find anything on it and powershell commands do not work for creating GMSA accounts.
Do I need to update all our DCs to 2012 R2 before doing ADFS in 2012 R2?  We currently do not use ADFS, and I'd like to stick with the latest and greatest if possible...

    Hi,
Yes, ADFS 3.0 needs to be installed on Windows Server 2012 R2, but you don’t need to upgrade all your DCs, you can upgrade one of them in order to use ADFS 3.0.
In addition, gMSA is a new object class after AD schema is extended for Windows Server 2012, which means you need to have at least one Windows 2012 Domain Controller and at least one Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 domain member
    to use the gMSA.

  • 2008R2 server crash caused by srv2.sys, MS Netherlands SA support tells me to ..

Last night 1 of our 2008r2 sp1 Enterprise crashed and auto rebooted. With the debugger tool I checked the minidump and at the bottom it states:
    Probably caused by : srv2.sys ( srv2+212e )
This is the SMB driver. There is a KB that acknowledges that there is a bug in this driver and a hot fix is available. However.. the date of the driver in the hotfix is older than the date of the driver in use by the server. Get my point? Should I install
    the "older" hotfix or not.
    This is the KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2394911
I contacted MS SA support in the Netherlands and the literally stated that the server is now up and running so there is no problem hence they can not support this. Ridiculous. I told him that we have a server running that we can't rely on. They did not care..
I asked they guy to ask his manager and they just refuse to support me. Instead they sad I should contact a MS Partner because the question was about "implementation ".
Can you imagine that I not impressed at all by this...

    Hello,
    So it is a BSOD.
    Please start by that:
    Update all possible drivers
    Uninstall all unused programs
    Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
    Perform a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Disable temporary all security softwares you have
Run memtest86+ to check your RAM. If an error was detected then replace the faulty RAM or contact your manufacturer Technical Support for assistance
Once done, check results. If this does not help then use Microsoft Skydrive to upload dump files. Once done, post a link here.
You can also contact Microsoft CSS for assistance.

  • Does ms office 2010 support in windows server 2008r2

    Hi
I required the information regarding that does ms office 2010 support in  windows server 2008r2 edition & if support then how can i down load the office service pack for the same.

Yes, you can install Office 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For the system requirements for Office 2010, please refer to this article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624351(v=office.14).aspx
Microsoft now no longer offers a download from their site, however, if you already have a product key of Office 2010, you can get Office 2010 installation package from this website:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/microsoft-office-2010-backup-FX101853122.aspx . If you don’t have a product key, I would suggest you to try the new Office – Office 2013, which also can be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2.
For more information about the new Office, please check on this site:

  • Is SharePoint 2010 Supported on Windows 2012 R2

    Hi
I have read Trevor Seward's responses to various questions on this subject :-
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ad4e17ee-83de-41d6-a974-244ceccb8a63/is-sharepoint-2010-sp1-is-supported-by-windows-server-2012-currently-i-have-os-version-of-server?forum=sharepointadminprevious

However, we have a farm which is currently SP2010 SP1 which we are about to upgrade to SP2010 SP2 running on Windows Server 2008R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. So the farm is currently not supported by Microsoft.
We are now looking to upgrade this farm to SP2013 SP1 running Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2012.
We plan to start this process of by upgrading Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2.
Will SharePoint 2010 SP2 run on Windows 2012 R2 (or will we need Windows 2012) ?
Once Server 2012 R2 (or Server 2012) is up and running, we will upgrade SP2010 SP2 to Sp2013 SP1.
Finally upgrade SQL Server 2008R2 to SQL Server 2012.
So the part I don't know is will SharePoint 2010 SP2 run on Windows 2012 R2 or Windows 2012 ?
    Thanks

  • Can't Open Reports after upgrading to Windows Server 2008R2

Since upgrading to Windows Server 2008R2, I am unable to use File > Open to browse my network for existing Crystal Reports.  I am able to access reports from my recent reports list.  If I use Windows Explorer to try to find/open an existing report file, I'm prompted for the installation disk.  Is this a known issue?  Thanks for your help.

  • Office 2013 windows 'pop-under' when run as remote apps on Server 2008R2 from Windows 7 clients

We have an environment with Windows 7 clients running Office 2013 via RDS on Windows Server 2008R2.
When users double click emails from Outlook, they 'pop-under', forcing the user to relocate the window which has fallen behind the application's primary window, leaving behind a slight redraw of what is supposed to be the pop-up window. Users also experience
difficulty opening application menu/help items and any other dialogue boxes in any/all of the other Office 2013 apps we've deployed via RDS.

    Hi Vel,
According to the error message, the issue is related to GDI+. Based on my research, it is a known issue that the GDI+ need to be updated on Windows Server 2008 R2. If we want to know what version of GDI+, we can do a file search for Gdiplus.dll.
To fix this issue, please install the hotfix for your Windows Server 2008 R2 from the following kb:

  • Intel processor bug causes Windows 2008r2 guest to blue screen

We recently purchased several B200-M3 blades with E5-2680v2 processors.  Our UCS infrastructure and blade firmware is at 2.2(1d).  ESXi hosts are at 5.5u1.
From my reading of the Release Notes, this makes the new blades vulnerable to Caveat CSCuo30572 which is a bug in the v2 processors that can cause Windows 2008R2 guests to blue screen.
VMware KB2073791 also deals with this bug
    The Intel Erratum is C135
Updating the firmware (2.2(1d) probably to fixed version 2.2(3d)) is a relatively long process in our environment.
Has anyone experienced this bug?  Do the guests blue screen at any particular time; e.g. when booting?  Are Windows 2012 guests impacted?  One of our new v2 blades was running Windows 2008R2 guests for about a week without any known problem.  It has since been taken out of production.
The Release Notes (2.2) description for CSCuo30572 is:  "Intel v2 processors no longer cause PSOD with Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 VM guests."  Should the PSOD (ESXi crash) actually be BSOD (Microsoft crash)?  Or can ESXi purple screens be caused also, crashing the entire host?
The Release Notes also indicate that the Caveat is resolved in release 2.2(2c)A.  Does the A indicate that an Infrastructure update is all that is needed?  That does not seem like it would supply the fixed microcode to the processors via BIOS.
I'm basically looking for some insight before proceeding with another FW update.  Thank you.

Yes, it refers to Infrastructure (UCS Manager, FI and IOM). You could just upgrade the infrastructure to 2.2.3d and leave your Servers at 2.2.1d

  • Printing problems on Server 2008R2 - Server 2012R2

    Hi,
We have troubles with Firefox and printing pages.
First i want to say i have already tried all this steps:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-printing-problems-firefox
    Let me explain my problem:
In a TerminalServer Session i want to print a website from firefox.
Sending the print job in Firefox works without error reports, but then the printer "Data" lamp is blinking and the printer Says proccessing.
First i thought the printer has been broken but then i tried this on 6 other printers in our company.
    Printers: HP, Sharp, Brother, Develop.
Every Printer has the same problem. No one could print anything anymore. I had to turn off the printers to get them working again.
Resetting the about:config -> print_printers was not working, after this the printer was printing one Job then the problem was there again.
I also have deleted the profile in AppData, but this has not resolved the problem.
So can you please tell me what the problem is?

    Hi,
The Dump File has abaout 290mb, what should i do with that file?
The Machines are running on 2 different Hyper-V 2012R2 Hosts,(1 HP Server and 1 Supermicro Server, Intel Xeon 2620V2) the latest Integration Services Drivers on the guest machines are up to date.
    This is the printing Problem:
Firefox sends the Webpage to the Printer. After a short time the printing Job is cleared from the list of actual Jobs.
The Printer Says now he got a Job an says "Processing...", well.. this happens by every printer in our Company.
Only turning off the Printer and on again makes the Printer working again to print anything from other programs.
At the moment where someone sends a print Job from Firefox (Problem exists only on TerminalServers 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2.) to any Printer, the Printer must be restarted to work again.
    Printing from Server 2003R2 works.

  • Server 2008R2 mapping to shared folders fails users of Windows 8.1 but seems OK on Windos 8.0 and no problems for Windows 7

Having read what I could from the related questions, the answers still elude me.  This issue apparently is specific to Windows 8.1.
    First, a little background.
1:  The server is not on a domain,  The system runs Server 2008-R2 standard with all folders shared across a standard "Workgroup" type network.  They would prefer to
    leave this layout intact.
2:  The shared folders are nothing but Data files.  There are no active system folders or anything used in an "active" environment.  They are mostly Word doc, excel
files, pdf, txt, etc.  However, due to the requirements of the software that needs to access these files, they Must
reside on a mapped network drive letter. Nothing else works due to the way the SQL database program stores the reference points back to the data.
I have had some success using what amounts to a “simulated” mapping using  WebDAV to access the server.  But access speed is a lot slower ad file size is limited.
3:  The system has been configured as-is for the past 3 years with Users all on Windows 7 x64 (mixed OS, some Home Premium, some Professional) and the only problems that come up are when
access is through an ISP that blocks port 445.  This was the original reason for finding a WebDAV/Cloud method just for those Users since they were unable to Map drives to anything on the Office Servers from their Home Internet even when using a VPN.
When Windows 8.0 became the only version available, I added a few users whose new laptops came with 8.0 from the vendors.  While there were a very few minor problems, for all practical
purposes, I was still able to provide access to the mapped folders.
As the Windows 8.1 roll-out progressed, some users were successfully upgraded while others  are still stuck in Windows 8.0.  The issues with this seem to be hardware related and vary
depending on the Make and model of the laptop.  I have been assured that eventually all of these will be able to advance to 8.1.  But this delay has given me an excellent mixed OS environment for testing.
On the users who have not yet purchased new equipment and who are still using Windows 7.  There has been no change.  Their drive mapping is stable and they can always connect as usual.
Those blocked from lack of port 445 or still blocked.  Systems inside the Office and those with ISP's who allow port 445 can use all mapped drives as normal.
Users who had Windows 8.0 and who have not yet been able to upgrade to 8.1 also have been unaffected.  Same results as Windows 7.
Users who got the Windows 8.1 upgrade as well as those that came factory loaded with Windows 8.1 seem to be a never-ending list of problems.  The ones that came native with 8.1 are worst
of all.  The list of error codes runs through everything that has to do with “communication with the server”.  As far as I have seen, this appears to be the issue.
Whether they are in the office on a wired network connection or at home on a Wi-Fi connection, the issues have the same results but the actual error codes may vary slightly.  All of
them refer back to an inability to communicate with the server.
Nothing on the server has changed in any way.  Users with Windows 7 continue to have zero problems,  Users with Windows 8.0 seem to be doing fine as well.  Only those with Windows
8.1 are affected and their problems are dramatic with everything from a total loss of drive mapping to misdirected data when the maps are active.
I have tried to make the drives automatically remap on reboot. I have tried registry modifications.  I have done everything I can think of to make a difference but the results are the same
for every system using 8.1.  The mapped drive letters invariably disappear.  Sometimes while the system is in use ( I think I have been able to trace this to times when the system enters Sleep or Hibernate) but always when the system reboots.
One detail that might point to somewhere is that the "time to connect" when mapping the drive is so long that I believe some of the original failures were due to not waiting for a
minimum of 3 or 4 minutes to give time for the Shares to show-up in order to map them.  Once the mapping is successful, the file access speed seems normal.  But invariably, the drive becomes "unmapped" repeatedly each day.
I know this was a long question but I have tried to provide every possible detail for anyone who has experienced events like this who may already have a solution.  I would even be glad
to purchase a 3rd party application if that is what it takes to get this to work.  My next planned effort is to try using Server 2013 but I am afraid that might open another can of worms for those who still use Windows 7.
I have also been told that this is in some way related to the push to "Cloud" support in Windows 8.1 OS but I do not see where this would come in.  I can say that this was the
one place where things continued to work as before.  People who had Windows 8.1 and who had to use the CLOUD copies of our data are still able to connect to it with no problems.
Any suggestions appreciated.  Preferably those that would not need extensive changes to the basic network structure.  This "workgroup" consists of less than 25 users and any
extreme measures would be hard to justify

    Hi,
I sugget you try to ping server so that we can verify the connectivity.
Can windows 8.1 access Windows Server 2008R2?
Also, please check the event viewer to see if some error log appeared when the issue occurred.
