2009 i7 iMac Screen Stuck at Black during and after Startup

Have had this iMac since early March 2010, its been great and my favorite apple product to date. 4 Weeks ago I left to Europe and left my computer OFF and with the power cord not plugged into the wall. I came back, plugged it all back in and turned it on...everything worked fine, surfing the net and CS:S i leave again last week to Denver and left the computer in the same way, OFF and unplugged. I came back today turned it on, i hear the fans, I hear the computer starting up, my external hdd gets power but my logitech mouse would not get power through USB. Ten minutes later my screen is still black, no flickering no nothing just black. I then went ahead and turned it off via power button and disconnected all peripherals mentioned earlier and still nothing. Called applecare they made me do some power cycle thing and still nothing, now I have a Genius appointment tomorrow afternoon....any ideas? Could the screen just have died or some connection on the board burned out? Thanks in advanced!

Try Resetting the PRAM
If that doesn't make a difference, try Resetting the SMC
iMac since early March 2010
Should still be under the one year limited warranty.

I have read on here that a PRAM reset can cure this problem:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

IPad 4th generation Screen go's black during gaming

I have tried serval different types of games on my iPad 4th generation and the screen go's black during gaming . Is this common for the iPad or is something wrong with this new iPad?

Is the iPad charged when this happens?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Suddenly shuts down, after few moments can be started and used again like normal. Started occurring when mouse and key board batteries where low ? coincidence-- batteries now changed but still happened once.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I need to replace my early-2009 20" iMac Screen. What fits?

I have an early-2009 20" iMac MB417LL/A and I am having a very hard time finding which screen works for this computer. With window computers I just have to type in the name of the computer followed by LCD and I will find the one I need but its not so simple with Macs. Does anyone know where I can find a compatability list or something of that sort? So far I have found that there are apple part numbers but the LCD will be LG with a seperate part number. 661-4983 seems to work. I also found that Dell M201EW02 will work. Is this true?

Equium L40 - Screen went whole black during working

Hi,
since yesterday I have a problem with my notebook. During working screen went whole black and notebook stop working. I cannot normally run notebook now because every time it stop working after few seconds and I can only it turn off.
I tried to find anything in BIOS but it stop working too so I don't have too much time. Once I saw comunicate 'Media test failure', I tried to reboot with a recovery disk but it stop reading DVD drive after few seconds as well.
I have Windows Vista, I don't think it's a virus. The moment from starting to shutting down computer is about 3-15seconds. And if I try to run it right after shut down it's stopping work faster.
Warranty service is 200km from me so I would be glad to get any help here:)

I tried to take our and put in battery, doesn't change anything. Sometimes without battery I can't turn on notebook at all (it won't happen with battery inside).

For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction because the DVD drive stops reading the recovery disk.
Its really hard to say what is the reason for this, maybe its a problem of the mainboard or RAM.
The RAM you can test with Memtest86 ([www.memtest86.com]). There you can download an image for a bootable disk. Download it, burn it on a disk and boot from it. The test will start automatically and if the RAM is faulty the program should find it.
If Memtest86 cant find an error I think you must sent the notebook to an authorized service provider. The technicians can check the notebook and exchange the faulty parts. I think they will help you as fast as possible.

IMac Screen intermittently goes black

ust recently my iMac screen has started to go black after a few minutes. Usually this happens after my iMac wakes up and I've started to run an application. I can't seem to get the screen to return to normal without rebooting the machine, which seems to fix the problem. I've already verified and repaired all permissions. I've verified the disc and no problems were fund. I've called Apple support and was told it might be a video card. I've run the hardware tests, both short and extensive, and no problems were found.
I have two questions: any suggestions, and can the geniuses at my local bar replace the video card if that's determined to be the problem, or will my iMac have to be sent somewhere?

Video card issues usually require a swap out of the logicboard because the card is usually soldered/glued to the motherboard. They would likely need to order the logicboard.
Have you checked the RAM to be sure that it is seated properly in the slots?

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a

Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

Blank screen freezes on black randomly or after calls due to 3.1 update new

I just spoke to App Care. They are very aware and aggresively escalating this according to both product specialists I spoke to. The fix right now is to backup, factory restore, and restore your backup to your iphone. I am not going to be able to this due to travel for a couple months, and was asked very nicely to basically "deal" with the problem and perform a hard reset everytime the backlight timeout coma occurs until an official fix is announced, or I can restore at home which is 3000 miles away. Mine mostly seems to happen after a phone call, so I am looking for any patterns that cause it.

I had a couple days of no lock outs, then today its been very bad. I have had to hard reset 5-6 time, once during an actual call the phone screen locked up on black. I knew this because a text came in during the call, and when I looked at the screen it was blank. From this point forward the call quality was very poor and after the other line hung up, I had to hard reset to get back to normal. Starting to make me feel like this is a hardware failure, that unfortunately is occuring to most users who have older 3G phones. Makybe the accelerometer is dying, I don't know.
I am certain that my battery life has severly decreased in the past month, I think in conjunction with the 3.1 update.
I will be surprised at this point if Apple announces anything major in the way of a fix. Most out of warranty iphone users will just get new iphones.

IMac is stuck on apple logo and spinning wheel stop spinning

Hello everyone, I have iMac 9,1, somehow i lost my OS X partition and i left with just a Windows. So now i tried to clean install new OS X Yorshmite, i boot a new installation and a apple logo is spinning and after 2 minutes it stuck and usb driver stop reading, 5 minutes after iMac just shut down and that's it. I can't access recovery mode.
I tried with replacing old with new Hard Drive, removing RAMs, diferent versions of OS X and still nothing. A can't boot in SAFE MODE or Recovery Mode.
Windows 7 working fine and i can boot it without problems.
Please help?

My iMac Screen has become completely pixilated and flashing

Went to use my computer this morning and after about 5 minutes the screen became completely pixilated. Shut the computer down and tried to restart and got this.
Called apple care but my protection plan has expired, representative was very nice and after listening to me describe the problem he sent me a link to reset the PRAM. I followed the instructions and now I get this:
Computer continues to go to a grey box that says I must restart. Does anyone have any other suggestions for what this may be?? PLEASE HELP!!

Indeed! That's why I editted out that part after having second thoughts and seeing your follow-up. The MacTracker database is pretty good about details but does not go into which iMacs have separate video hardware. From personal iMac exerience within the family, we jumped from a G3/400 to my mid-2010 quad-cor i7 27-inch without managing to own any of the intervening models!
My biggest concern for the OP is parts. Althoguh that model still shows as "supported," there have been times when Apple didn't have parts that old.
