2009 iMac 27in - screen burn visible (Pics)
Hey everyone, I have an i5 that I bought back in 2009 that has started developing screen issues. There seems to be a ripple on the right side of my screen internally, that is visible only on flat colored backgrounds. I use my iMac for a couple of hours a day, put it to sleep at night, and have been using my Belfan adapter to use a display for my 360 as well.
Has anyone had any similar issues? I think my warranty has run out...should I haul it to the Apple store for help? Thanks in advance.
unless you have AppleCare your warranty is long gone. You need to bring that to Apple to have it fixed (new screen). I have no idea how much it costs.

IMac 24" Screen Burn-in When Using iDVD
I had a 1.5 hr long video that burned using iDVD. I found that if I use iDVD the screensaver will NEVER turn on. So, when the iDVD finished I found that a bit of screen burn-in is stuck on my screen.
Seeing that this is an LCD I thought it was true that LCD's couldn't have burn-in like CRT's could but I'm guessing I'm mistaken on that.
Does anyone know how I can fix the burn-in and also how to get the screensaver to work with iDVD so it doesn't happen again?

...to setup a Hot Corner to sleep the display go to: System Preference > Expose & Spaces > Expose and in the Active Screen Corners section setup any corner you would like to sleep the display. Then any time you leave with a job running, just park the mouse pointer in that corner and sleep the display until you return.
That's fine and dandy for most things, but does not address the issue brought up by the initial poster. When running iDVD the screen will not blank nor will the screen saver start. If you have a hot corner to blank the screen and you move your mouse to the hot corner the screen will stay blanked for maybe 10 seconds before it unblanks. This is true using the iDVD that came with iLife '08. I haven't tried any others.
It seems that iDVD overrides the users sleep/blanking preference. That makes sense if you are watching something. It makes no sense during the 3+ hours it takes me to render a DVD disk image (I'm not burning a disk at this time). -
SmcFanControl settings for 2009 iMac 24" with burn-in
I have a 2009 24" iMac with burn-in on the screen. I downloaded smcFanControl, as it's supposed to fix the problem. I have 2 questions. First, can someone tell me what settings I should be using for the ODD, the HDD and the CPU? Second, Since I didn't know what settings to use, I temporarilly set all 3 of them well above the Apple minimums. What I don't understand is that when I look at the current RPM's that the fans are using, they're all below the minimum speeds that I set on the smcFanControl. In other words, when I open up the program at the top of the screen, all of the RPM's that it displays, are significantly lower than the minimums that I set under preferences in the smcFanControl program. In addition, I don't hear any fans at all, the computer is dead silent. Can someone please help me with these 2 issues above. Thanks.

IMac G5 Screen Burn In??
Hey Folks...
I've had my iMac G5 20" for about 5 months now. It's used A LOT for my business; it's easily on 5-6 hours a day or more. Lately, I've noticed that whenever the screen is a solid color (blue or white), after-images/shadows of the desktop icons are still visible. Not the desktop wallpaper -- the icon images. There's also a solid band of shadow across the top; I've also noticed white "sparkles" around the center of the desktop when I close windows to go back to the desktop.
Having paid over $2000 for this system, I'm more than a bit concerned. Is this a known issue with the iMacs, and how much is Apple going to charge me to call their tech line to get the monitor fixed? Or is there a way I can fix it without needing to send it back?Hello.
Sorry for replying after such a long time, but I lost track of this thread.
As for the issue "not existing" and me "double-checking my info" I kindly request you to read up on Apple's official statement on the issue on http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextension
Good luck in getting the problem resolved.
Kind regards,

2009 Imac i7 Screen glitchy and freezing (see picture)
My 2009 27" iMac just recently started doing this:
It sometimes is unresponsive, and sometimes the display will start to glitch in this way, but certain functions are still responsive. For example sometimes I can restart the computer through the apple menu, sometimes I can save a file before restarting. Other times the cursor freezes as well and nothing responds. So far restarting the computer has fixed it everytime. It started about two days ago and it's happened about six times. Any thoughts about what this might be? Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas how to check what it is?Is there a risk of further damage if I delay taking it in? I mean I'll want to get it fixed soon because I want it working properly, but do I need to stop using it in the meantime, or take it in tomorrow or something? Or just as soon as I get a chance in the next few weeks would be fine?

Need help with Late 2009 imac- had HD and video card replaced under Apple Care last year. Upgraded to Mavericks and it froze up while on Yahoo looking at a slide show. Screen pixelated with checkerboard patterns and then eventually locks-up. Only way to get it to work now is in SAFE MODE.
Tried memory test, Resetting SMC, AHT, Zapping NVRAM, PRAM, only errors I can see are some permissions
From Repair Permissions (Disk utility):

New kernel panic is now as follows-
What's interesting is I had the video card replaced at Apple in the last year- it's a ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
But I see that the log has it listed as
"com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000(8.2.4)"
wondering if that my be the problem as the issue is the screen is fragmented and flickers- checkerboard before it crashes when not in safe mode..

IMac issues: Overheating, Software Crashing, Screen Burn
To whomever is helpful,
My 24" iMac, early 2008 model has been experiencing problems that have gotten progressively worse over the past three months. The iMac began to heat up more than usual, and it's gotten hotter progressively over that course. The iMac is almost unusable after thirty minutes unless the screen brightness is turned down as low as possible. Software crashes, everything from advanced programs such as the Adobe suite, and the Chrome web browser which is not supposed to tax the memory very much, if at all. I have 4 gigs of RAM installed, and I believe the issue is heat related. As a sidenote, if the iMac gets hot enough, there is screen burn when moving application windows, and they disappear only after 10 minutes in sleep mode.
In my mind, all of this is abnormal, and earlier today I tok my iMac to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store, and the Genius didn't spend five minutes diagnosing my problems likely because there was a long line of people waiting. All he told me was to go home and run Activity Monitor and Disk Utility to see if there's a problem, and also to reinstall the operating system and the applications that crash. I've tried that, and as expected it didn't do anything, and I'm wondering if anyone has insight that could be of use, and if maybe I should send my iMac to AppleCare for them to look at it. Any help would be greatly appreciated appreciated.
Regards,
-ChadChad, very sorry to hear of your problems.
If your Mac is still under warranty (sounds like it might be) I'd suggest the following.
Call Apple, and politely request they send a warranty tech to your location to address the issue.
Ask that the tech come prepared to replace your Mac if they are unable to fix it.
Although I am not an expert, this doesn't sound like a problem you could have caused. If you didn't break it, you shouldn't have to be involved in fixing it. You paid good money for a product, and you deserve to have it.
Again, I'm assuming you're still under warranty.
If you decide to try this, I hope you'll report how it works out for you, so we can learn from your experience. Thanks, and good luck! -
Weird Screen Burn (?) on iMac 24inch
I know there are dozens of threads about screen burn and uneven displays but I think my iMac has conjured up a new problem.
Recently i've noticed a number of 'rays' beaming down from the top of the display. I can't imagine how this would be screen burn as nothing fits the pattern burned. There are also a few 'blobs' around the screen that are noticeably darker.
Have tried cleaning the screen and have turned it off for 2days to rest it. Both to no avail.
It's getting very distracting/irritating and, I believe, progressively worse ;

Its a 24inch white imac 2.16 and is under a year old.I would like to add my name to list of screen problems as well. just in the last few weeks my iMac 24" screen (white) has had the same problems with 'rays' beaming down from the top of the display. There are also a few 'blobs' around the screen that are noticeably darker. Exactly as 'Deci' has pictured in his first post. and I am afraid it is going to get worse.
so far this forum hasn't been any help, it is the white iMac so the screen cannot be removed to be cleaned (if it is in fact dirt), and it can't be cleaned on the front because the 'rays' are behind the screen.
It is one of the original iMac's and I have had a for almost two years with no problems until this recently started happening, and it's very distracting/frustrating as I am a graphic designer and use my iMac for work.
any solution to this from anyone, (Apple?!) on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Help someone!! Deci if you ever find a solution please let me know, thanks!! -
Hi,
As the title say's, I got a screen burn. The problem is that I got it even if my screensaver activate after 5 mins of inactivity & the screen shut 5 mins after... I tried the trick of the white screensaver but no result.... My Imac is like 8 month old so its still under warranty but does the warranty cover that???
thanks for the help!can't imagine why it wouldn't, it doesn't sound like you've done anything purposly wrong to it. you have a screen saver set up and it's still generated a fault, have a chat with the nice people at applecare and give your details when you feel happy they will fix it.
time spent on the phone is always cheaper than a new computer -
We have an iMac 21 inch 2009 model. Screen is black upon switching on although we hear the sound. Any thoughts and/or fix? Many thanks
2009 iMac? You posted in the iMac (PPC) forum. Your iMac is an Intel.

Screen burn on my new imac?
I've read that LCD monitors can't get screen burn, but I sure see some faint images of where icons are/were on my desktop. I'm not happy about this. I just purchased this intel imac in November. I do have apple care but not pleased about losing the computer for a week or more. Is there anything to try?
Thanks,

My 2009 iMac is making a very loud noise. It sounds like a rapid, pulsating electronic noise. It stops when the screen brightness is adjusted or when using certain apps. But it always returns and is getting louder. The unit was shut down for 4 months and the house temperature was set to 5C. It was powered up 2 weeks ago and ran fine for a while. Then in the last 5 or 6 days the problem started. 5 days ago I did watch a bike race for 3 or 4 hours from a quasi legal stream. I am not tech savvy. Just very confused as I've had a trouble free run so far. Ditto with my iphone5.
I would recommend taking it in immediately to your local Apple Store or AASP to be loooked at by an Apple Genius. I suspect you made a goof somewhere but diagnosing noises without seeing it is really difficult.

27" 2009 iMac is stuck on white screen after OS X Maverick update
27" 2009 iMac is stuck on white screen after OS X Maverick update. How do I get past this White Screen? I have tried to use the PRAM reset, holding down Shift,Command, R, and P after turning off computer then when I turn it on, having those pressed until I see the apple symbol. I only hear one chime. Never get to a second chime. Thank you.
