Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor. In particular, the many "failed" warnings that it sometimes spews mean absolutely nothing. Those warnings are not a valid reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Why is my macbook pro so slow now?

Why is my macbook pro so slow? I deleted apps from start up & items off of my desktop...still very slow. Please help
I have Lion as the OS.
Also, suddenly the mac cant see the wireless printer or print

You need to give us much more information.  Which year and model version of Macbook Pro do you have?  What "exactly" is running "slowly": internet downolads, Apps opening or running, etc.etc.?  How much RAM do you have?  How full is your hard drive?

  • Went from Mountain Lion to Yosemite on 2009 MacBook Pro.  Safari now randomly shuts down; Word doesn't work properly; iPhoto will not upload pics from iPhone; EVERYTHING is horribly slow.  How to I go back to Mountain Lion?

Is there a way to go back to Mountain Lion after updating to Yosemite?  Yosemite has caused nothing but problems in multiple programs.  Mountain Lion ran fine.  Not sure why I even updated.  I am NOT a computer guru so instructions I have read for the many Yosemite fixes blow my mind.  Should I be taking my MacBook Pro to the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store (2 hours away)?  I have been a Mac user and lover for many years and am SO frustrated and disappointed in all of it right now.  Please advise on what a non-tech frustrated Mac user can do.

Technically, you can downgrade if you have the following:
Your computer must be elligible to run Mountain Lion. If your computer came with Mavericks or Yosemite out of the box, you can forget it.
You need an already existing Mountain Lion installer file. If you still have that somewhere, for example in your Applications folder, or anywhere else, it's usable- note that it needs to be originally downloaded with your own Apple ID and password. If you made a Mountain Lion USB installer or DVD back then that would work too. If your Time Machine back-ups go back to the days of Mountain Lion or Lion you could check your Applications folder from inside Time Machine and restore it to your computer.
To not have data loss you need a Time Machine back-up that goes back to when you were still running Mountain Lion. Please note that this will revert your data to exactly the date that you choose. If you installed Mavericks 2 months ago, you will loose 2 months worth of data.

  • MacBook Pro terribly slow unknown reason. Please help.

Even while not running any app at all,  (and with 20%+ free disk-space, and nothing noticeable shown in Activiy Monitor). Disk utility neither finds anything, but the computer is taking about 5min to open a window, and if I open an App, my MacBook freezes for around 5 min, then the App runs extremely slow and eventually breaks. I have been suffering from this for a couple months but started much much lighter, and started getting worst over time, till this point in which opening a folder takes around 1min.
(I also have almost nothing on my desktop and only weather widgets; and only a default background image)
    Mine is a MacBook Pro 15' (mid 2010) 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1067MHz DDR3 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB. Running 10.7.2.
I have tried unplugging it and shutting it off for several minutes. I have run tests, which also run extremelly slow and freeze my computer completely.
I think it is important to notice that I only use my MacBook Pro for running Xcode, Safari, iTunes and some of the Adobe products. With some sporadic use of Skype and VLC. So the problem would most likely come from my own Xcode projects, but I can't really find where. I can't even run Xcode at a workable speed anymore.
I find many permission issues, but performing permission repair is not solving them for some reason.
What could it be the problem? What could I do to solve it?

Download and run Smart Utility :http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php that will give you insight into the condition of your hard drive.
You've probably already reset the SMC and PRAM?
If you do a safe boot by holding the shift key down when rebooting, does the system behave the same? If not, look at your login items as well as those shown at the bottom of your system prefences panel. It's possible there's a software incompatibility that's hosing things up.

  • Macbook pro is slow.....HELP

My 2011 Mac Book pro is slow. i do not have many applications installed except skype, iAntivirus Picasa, Microsoft Office and amazon Mp3. i dont have alot of files i many use my macbook for the internet which is also slow. How can i speed up my computer? also i have downloaded trend micros (wish i never did) but it will not go away it shows up on my start up disk and the little trend  mciro logo is on the top bar on the screen where the time and date are witht he wifi and battery percentage. How cna i get ride of TM ? HELP HELP HELP

The easiest (and often quickest) fix to speeding your MacBook up (even if just by a bit) is cleaning your Desktop up. Make folders, and try to keep your Desktop just as clean as possible.
Uninstall the anti-virus programs as soon as possible. On a Mac, most antivirus programs are kind of redundant, and they really things down.
Update to the latest version of Mountain Lion, though why would you not just get Mavericks? Mavericks has an amazing fix built just to speed Macs up. It's free too!
Finally, go to Utilities --> Activity Monitor to see what programs are slowing your system down the most...

I also run Adobe CC design software - and it is very very slow
Safari is extremely slow and buggy, and sometimes shows screens as below:
I was going to upgrade to 2x8GB ram which will be 16GB of ram - will this solve the problem?
Should i upgrade to yosemite? will these problems be fixed please?
I have tried asking the Apple Outlet here in Malta but they are of no help at all, don't know where else to ask!

I am trying to update my Macbook pro 5,5 which has version 10.5.8 which I presume is Leapard. I have a copy of Snow Leapard and am trying to download but every time I click to install I get the message "The Application "Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume.
I have no idea what this means and am stuck. Please help.

    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Handoff isn't working at all on my Macbook Pro or iPhone 6. I need help please.

I updated all my stuff but Handoff and Continuity are not working at all.
I have been through it all with setting everything up how it says. YES BLUETOOTH IS ON!

What MacBook Pro year do you have?  It has to be at least Mid-2012 per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6337 for Continuity/Handoff to work.

  • I think my MacBook Pro is attacked by virus. Need HElP!

I think my MacBook Pro has been attacked by virus. I have deleted the programs( by moving it to trash and emptied it) which I think was the main source of this Malware; which is MacKeeper in my case. However random ****** ads are still popping out and my search engine is switched to thesmartseacrh.net in safari. this search engine gives fake information and also disabled most of the right information. From then on, I am afraid to install any anti virus software online even though it was highly recommended by the people, so it seems that I still can't move on. Is there any pro out there who is willing to help me? >,< my mac is still new I am crying my a** off if this virus still can't be removed T_T. I FREAKING HATE ADS. Help everyone. Thank you.

MacKeeper lokely has some hidden files still active.
I have no idea how they can get away with advertising MacKeeper at all.
I even avoid linking to sites that advertise it.
You really really need to uninstall it, but maybe not using their uninstaller.
    Klaus1's great post on MacKeeper...

  • My 2009 MacBook Pro is slow to sleep - running mavericks - how do I fix?

MacBook now takes 30-45 seconds to sleep and then wakes by itself later on.  Have checked for old printer q's and found none.  Operating wirelessly with new apple router off comcast cable modem.  Used to sleep immediately and stay until awakened.  Any helps?

pennbank is correct that holding the power button will stop the computer.  But it stops *all* processes mid-step, which can leave some of OSX in an incorrect state because of pending internal file updates that were killed.  I do not like to use that method if anything else will make it respond.  For example, once the computer was not responding when I was using a BT trackpad.  I eventually removed the batteries from the trackpad to force it dead, and the release of the BT channel freed the MBP.

  • Macbook pro froze and now wont boot up - Help please

    Hi
The issue randomly occurred when I was on Google chrome and I wanted to move an app that was downloaded in the wrong place. I went to click finder and it wouldn't open, tried system preferences it wouldn't open. It also wouldn't let me use any of the functions on the menu bar so I was pretty much stuck, however I could still use chrome. After which I closed the lid which enabled sleep mode. Just now I went to open it from sleeping and all there was, was a black screen and my mouse cursor.
I couldn't do anything, even the keyboard shortcuts and had to force shut down by holding the power button.
After which I was greeted with the following screen:
    http://imgur.com/EzuzPSW
I didn't press anything and I noticed that my mac kept rebooting and kept showing that screen. Instead of leaving it I pressed a key and this came up:
    http://imgur.com/l9Q1mgg
That screen would come up for roughly 3 seconds then it would reboot showing this screen again
    http://imgur.com/EzuzPSW
After about 3 times of auto rebotting this screen came up:
    http://imgur.com/G1G4Fj7
And now all that appears when I turn the system on is this:
    http://imgur.com/EzuzPSW
When I press a key I get this
    http://imgur.com/l9Q1mgg
it reboots and this keeps repeating.
Can anybody explain this issue ? I take it, its a HDD problem is there anyway I can save my data still or is it lost ?

Your MBP is suffering kernel panics.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Then try a Safe Boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If no success, try to access the recovery partition:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1310
Select the recovery partition.  From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
    What are the results?
    Ciao.

I posted a question last week about my Macbook Pro running slow, pinwheel on Safari etc, I was asked to run etrecheck which I have but not sure if it is highlighting the issue or not, so I have included the results below.
If anyone could take a look and let me know if something jumps out at you.
    Many thanks in advance

Are you running both VirtualBox and Parallels? The sad thing is that you've only 2GB of RAM - and your machine can be upgraded to 8GB which would, in your case, have a tremendous impact on the speed of your machine (I'm not certain why EtreCheck is saying that the 2GB of RAM is not upgradable).
2GB just isn't enough to run modern versions of OS X - not even the Lion OS that you're running now. If you want more performance from your machine, upgrade your RAM. You can go to the Crucial website or the OWC website and find the RAM that's right for your machine.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My 2009 Macbook Pro is running very slow

After installing Maverick on my 2009 Macbrook Pro initially the result was very slow, practically unresponsive and unusable. After investigating many reports of similar problems I have not found anything to rectify the problem. Have downloaded and reinstalled Maverick - have tried many suggestions but whilst currently marginally usable I am getting to the end of my patience and am very disapponted that it would not seem that Apple have sorted this problem out with an answer or even an apology. Please, please Apple sort yourseves out - you will cause yourselves iripairable damage if you continue to ignore the many problems that are being reported - this is my question to you - when and if will you sort this out please?

Thank you for your reply and help - information below:-
