2009 MBP fan not working

From new I have never heard the fan ( I am not deaf ) but never sensed any o/heating. Have updated to SSD and it seems to be overheating but still no fan sound.
Is there a diagnostic test I can run?

  • 2009 MBP TrackPad not working after 2 months of use..

Hey i bought it on late July, and i came back to Argentina (my residence country).I'm still in warranty, and i'm going back to US on July. The trackpad wont work when clicking in it, but does work when scrolling and tapping. The click only works sometimes when pressing hard, but i dont want to force it. Please help me if there's something in software,or tell me if Genius Bar in any Apple Store will help me replace/change the trackpad/laptop. Thank you very much.

Hi all, here in Malaysia I managed to talk to some technicians from the Apple Authorised Service Providers, and my trackpad was replaced. It was a bit difficult to demonstrate to them the "clicks" being lost but in the end they were able to help, my trackpad was replaced (as well as the display assembly - separate issue)... The problems I have been describing seemed to have gone away.
As such, I don't think it's clear cut with the trackpad issues whether it is a hardware or software thing. May be one or the other, or both.
Most importantly, get AppleCare. See the list of fixes I posted earlier.
If you are still facing issues, take it into the Apple Store Genius or an Apple Authorised Service Provider. As long as you can reproduce the issues even in say a clean install with 10.6.2, you should be able to hopefully get your Mac attended to.

  • Horrible fps problems, fans not working

    Hi,
Whenever I play League of Legends on my 15 inch retina macbook pro, the game starts out smoothly with a consistent 60 fps.  However, after a certain period of time, the fps severely drops to about 5.  It never used to do this, but now it happens consistently.  Also, the fans have not turned on in months; they used to always be on whenever I played League, but they seem to never turn on anymore.  Could the fps problem be related to the fan not working?  Please help, and thanks!

  • 2540p fan not working

Hi,I bougth netbook hp 2540p windows 7 instaled, and have a problem with cooling fan.The fan not working on the battery ,working connected to power adapter all the time.have you any suggestions how to fix it.thx
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Windows 7 or Windows 8? You are likely set to passive cooling in power management while on battery which means the laptop will do almost anything rather than kick on the fan while on battery. It will slow the processor instead. If you shift to active cooling your battery will get eaten up very fast. In short, I think your system is probably fine and messing with it does not make any sense. However, here is some more information on passive vs. active cooling:

  • Fans not working on new MBP

My 13" MBP is 3 months old and I use it rarely for weekend trips.
Today it white screened & crashed twice. Temperature gauge said it was running avg 95 centigrade and showed RPM at 2600 which I assume is fan speed. But I couldn't hear them.
Then launched SMC Fan app and it showed similar temp but fan RPM at 00.00
Adjusting the fan speed did nothing.
Doing a SMC fan reset did nothing.
I'm running off an external Lion drive. The MBP came with ML on its internal drive.
I want to test how it runs booted off the internal drive when I get home from dinner.
    But any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Steven

Unless I'm missing your point, if I'm on the road, I can't have my Mac Pro with me to plug into my MBP. If I could, I wouldn't need my MBP.
I don't think you get the scenario, no offense.
I work all day on my MP.
I have plans to be out of town for the next week.
I use SuperDuper! to create a mirror BU of my MP to my Seagate ext drive. Then shut down my MP.
Now my MP and my ext. Seagate drive are identical.
I leave for my trip and on arrival, I plug my Seagate into my MBP and launch with the Option key down and boot off the Seagate drive and thus at this point I'm "as if" on my MP in NY. However, for some reason, doing this blocks the MBP fans from running so I can only run off my Seagate drive for 15ish minutes before my MBP heats up too much and much shut down.
I can reboot off my MBP internal drive and with my MP mirror drive accessible. I can therethore access all my documents EXCEPT my AppleMail since I am not booting up off my Ext Seagate drive with the latest AppleMail inbox and other data.
All my mail BTW is POP and not IMAP. If IMAP then this would be much easier. But I've been using POP for so many years and have umteen saved folders of mail on the left column on my hard drive as opposed on my server.
I would like to update from POP to IMAP but this is a big job moving all my drive saved mail up to a server. But if I could do it, then I could reach this mail from my MBP, MP, iPad or iPhone.
Mail is the one hang up in the system I have currently. As I can also use DropBox to work with current documents I need to edit and work with.
Do you nsee the situation better now?
    Best
    Steven

  • Late 2009 MBP fans turning at 5600 rpm all the time, bluetooth unavailable and wont turn off

    Hello,
I have a late 2009 MBP, about a week ago the fans started turning at around 5600 rpm constantly, they are very noisy. The bluetooth has also stopped working, the icon's drop down menu says that it's not available. In addition, the computer won't turn off, it restarts immediately after shutdown. I have reset the PRAM and SMC but with no luck, this has been annoying me greatly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

You've already done the two things that I would suggest (resetting the SMC being at the top of the list). Your fans may be failing - I had the same problem with one of my fans and it had to be replaced.
The problem is with your other situations - I would really suggest backing up your data and making a clean install of Lion to see if that rectifies your Bluetooth, shutdown, etc., problems (as the SMC reset didn't). If that fails then it's time to visit the Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Just curious, though... does Bluetooth show up under your System Profile as being connected via the USB hub under Bluetooth USB Host Controller?
    Call back,

  • Why won't my 2009 MBP 15" not turn on after fixing a trackpad issue?

My mid 2009 MBP unibody trackpad was starting to not 'click' and after a while it became less & less functional. This is due to the battery swelling over time. I found a fairly simple fix to this issue, where a torx screw located at the bottom middle of the pad could be lowered or raised. Since the battery is located under the trackpad and puts pressure on it, you need to test fit everything back together after each adjustment of the torx screw. Trying this procedure a few times I found a desirable outcome and had my clicking function again.
Only problem is my macbook now will NOT POWER UP!! Tried a few different solutions, resetting the SMC, adjusting the RAM sticks and making sure they were seated properly, etc. and nothing works! Has anyone had this issue? Please help!!

It may be that your battery should be replaced since you said it was swelling.  If it will not turn on with the power adapter, then a trip to the Apple store genius bar is in order.
    Ciao.

  • Error 90B - Fan not working properly?

Hello, this is my first time here so please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong section.
    First, general specs:
    HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    BIOS:  InsydeH20 Version CCB.03.61.09F.21
    Processor:  AMD A6-3400M APU w/Radeon HD (4 cpus ~1.4GHz)
    6g RAM
(If anything else is needed to help me ask, and I shall post it)
Last week I received an error 90B for my laptop's cooling fan.  I was playing Guild Wars 2 and in the middle of playing my laptop shut down suddenly.  When I turned it back on it presented the error I'm asking about.  The thing is, the system wasn't overheating in the slightest and the fan was working just fine before it shut down.  I've tried many fixes proposed on HP's website and from a couple of friends:
-Compressed air blown into the vents
-System restore to a point where the fan worked
    -Hard reset
    -BIOS update
None of those proposed fixes worked.  However, I did find something that fixed it...for about ten minutes.  I fiddled with the Catalyst Control Center and set my CPU power back to its default 1400 MHz, and I shut down my system.  After I restarted it I miraculously didn't get the 90b error!  You could imagine how happy I was.  I shut it down one more time to see if the error was truly fixed, but lo and behold it showed up again.
The only change that could have caused the issue was me downloading a program called SpeedFan to monitor my system's temperature (I did NOT (I repeat, DID NOT) change any settings using the program - I purely used it to monitor the temperature.)
I cannot afford to have a repairman replace or look at my laptop as of now, we have bills to pay and food to get, and I absolutely NEED this computer to function.  I have work to do, and classes to sign up for, and we have no public computers for miles.  Please help me!

Not every fan error is a heat error. There is a sensor that detects a bearing that is wearing out or spinning that is out of round. You can sometimes limp it along for 6 months before the fan absolutely has to be replaced. When it does you will not be able to get past the error.

  • Mini DisplayPort - VGA and MBP 2011 not working

    Hi,
I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.
I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.

  • Windows Vista Business with MBP - wireless not working

I have successfully installed Windows Vista on my MBP using Boot Camp Assistant.
Problem is that the wireless ethernet does not work. I have heard of some file called "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe". If this is what I'm suppose to use where do I find this file?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first thing to do after the Vista Installation is to insert the OSX DVD that came with your MBP while in Windows.
Apple provides the BootCamp Drivers on that DVD.
The Driver Setup should start automatically once the DVD is inserted.
Let the Driver install and do the neccessary reboot into Vista once it has finished.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan
