2010 12Core MacPro not booting Win Installer

I am trying to install Win7 Home Premium 64Bit on my MacPro (2010, 12 Core, ATI 5870). I assigned an internal hdd to windows and the bootcamp assistant is booting the machine from the Win7 DVD. I can see the typical PC bios white-on-black text, when it's trying to find SCSI devices on the Atto SCSI controller, when it's finished with the Atto the sreen gets filled with garbled colored blocks and nothing happens.
What can I do? I don't even know what to google/search for. Had Vista istalled on my previous MacPro without problems, but this eludes me.
help appreciated.
Florian

you don't need BCA to install Windows 7 on its own hard drive.
But, is the ATTO flashed for mac firmware or Windows? and is the drive on the ATTO or not?
Might need to install Windows on native SATA ports - unless of course you are using SAS or SCSI drive for Windows.
You do NOT want Home Prem. but Pro in order to use two processor sockets and more than 16GB RAM.

  • Not booting after installation PCI WLAN-card

    I own a HP Pavilion Elite m9351.nl.
Recently I replaced the pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium by Windows 7 Ultimate.
Since then the internal WLAN-card does not wake up from standby. Also replacing the driver with the newest Ralink-driver does not solve this.
    Everything else works perfectly.
I removed the internal WLAN-card completely (including removing drivers) and replaced it by a PCI WLAN-card (D-link WMA-547). Now, the computer does not boot. The power supply, fans and lights all work, but the screen stays empty. Not even the HP-startup screen with boot options appears.
After removing the PCI WLAN-card everything works perfectly. When installing it again: nothing!
How do I install a WLAN-card and revive my computer?

I have the same question: suddenly my HP notebook (Win 7) will not boot up unless I turn off the WLAN.

  • MacPro Not Booting ...

I was having problems with my MacPro (Nehelem, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) freezing, so I opened up the case, cleaned the computer with Isopropyl Alcohol and Q-Tips carefully. Also used Spray Air.
When finished the computer does not boo. I do not hear the usual Mac sound when Booting. Power is working.
I opened the case again and checked to make sure the HD, RAM and Mother Board were seated securely and the were. Computer still does not boot.
Could I have damaged something from cleaning? If so, what most likely would be the problem? And how much to fix the computer?

    Does the power light blink?

  • Windows 7 will not boot after installation on mac pro

I have a mac pro 2006, and wish to install windows7 on another internal drive, when I follow bootcamp to the point where it says load installation disc for windows 7, it tries to load, but then I get an empty folder with a question mark in it. So then I tried an install on just an internal hard drive not using bootcamp, this time it seems to do a full installation, but when it tries to restart I get a mac symbol, with a no entry sign, any help please.

I can boot in windows safe mode, but, I cannot restart or finish the installation,

  • Snow Leopard not booting after installation in rEFIt triple boot system

    Hello,
I have a Core Duo Mac mini, on which I was successfully using a rEFIt triple boot configuration with
Leopard, Windows XP and Linux. After installing Snow Leopard on top of Leopard, Snow Leopard boots directly (without rEFIt showing up) the first time after installation. On the following reboots, rEFIt shows up but when selecting Mac OS, the system shows first the grey screen with the Apple icon, then it shows a grey screen with a "no access" icon and does not make any further progress. I reinstalled several times and at last I even removed rEFIt, but Snow Leopard won't boot anyway.
    Can anybody help? Thanks

  • New MacPro not booting from external firewire

    Hey guys, quick question.
I have just gotten the new 2009 MacPro and when I try to boot from an external drive it just freezes. I know the image is good because it boots up no problem on my iMac. It wont boot either through firewire or USB.
Any ideas and/or help is greatly appreciated.

Apple is kinda weird about software versions. Leopard on the Mac Pro install disc likely has some special stuff to take advantage of hyperthreading and different things that older Macs didn't have. If I'm not mistaken, Nehalem can't even boot off a drive from an older Mac Pro.
I believe the minimum OS that a Nehalem Mac Pro can run is 10.5.6. After poking around a bit with the install discs, I was interested to learn that Nehalem's version of iLife also includes special drivers to take special advantage of Hyper-Threading as well as some other elements of Nehalem's architecture.
Undoubtedly, Snow Leopard will include support for all the Intel systems, but until then, the included install/restore discs are your only way of installing a Nehalem-compatible boot drive. If you lose them, you'll have to go to talk to an Apple "Genius" to get things sorted.

  • MBP 13" (2010 model) will not boot from Restore DVD!

I just upgraded the HDD on my 13" MBP to the 1TB Toshiba MK1059GSM. The MBP is 3 weeks old. Upgrade went fine in terms of the process. However, when I insert the OS restore DVD that came with the machine and restart (using ALT/OPTION) and select to boot from the DVD, the Apple logo appears with the spinner and the system just stays like this. I can hear the DVD spinning but nothing elese ever happens! Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Could it be that this new Toshiba HDD is not compatible and the DVD does not have a driver for it?

+*Could it be that this new Toshiba HDD is not compatible and the DVD does not have a driver for it?*+
SATA drives use a standard interface and no additional drivers are necessary. That's not to say that the drive itself can't be faulty. As has been suggested, try removing the drive and see if you can boot from the DVD. If that works, you can be pretty sure there may be a problem with your new hard drive. Hopefully you kept your original drive so you can always put that back in. Faulty hardware can always be frustrating because you never think that's the problem. Let us know how you make out.

  • My iMac will not boot through Snow Leopard but will boot through Windows OS

My 2010 iMac will not boot in Snow Leopard, only Windows. Have tried reinstalling Snow leopard a few times and works only for a couple of minutes before freezing and doesnt reboot. Windows works perfect. Snow leopard just doesnt want to boot up past the Apple Logo. It was working fine one day and the next day it froze up and was able to reboot back into Snow Leopard but kept freezing. Now it doesnt load at all into Mac OS.
    Brian

    Possible scenarios:
1: The 10.6.3 SL retail disk is bad, it happens.
2: Your not using the 10.6.3 SL retail disk but one from another machine which doesn't have the drivers for that machine.
3: Your optical drive is funky or some other hardware issues.
4: Your trying to install 10.6 onto a PowerPC based Mac, no can do.
5: Your not using a wired keyboard for boot key commands, have some other hardware conflicts.
    Possible solutions.
1: Copy the SL 10.6.3 disk using Disk Utility to another DVD, the error checking may resolve the original disk's issue.
    http://www.brokenhomeboy.co.uk/pierow/blog/2011/10/make-a-bootable-backup-snow-l eopard-install-disc/
2: Make a SL bootable USB
    http://www.maciverse.com/install-os-x-snow-leopard-from-usb-flash-drive.html
3: Call Apple for a new 10.6.3 disk (and make copies for backup before Apple discontinues selling it)
If your upgrading to 10.6 to get to 10.6.8 to upgrade to 10.7, be warned of this:
1: Your 10.5 software will not work in 10.7, no more Rosetta or PPC based code.
2: Your hardware will not qualify if it's a 32 bit Intel Core Duo, also you may experience slowdowns in performance over 10.6 (10.6 is the fastest OS X version for Intel Macs) in older Intel hardware (I suggest Early 2011 Mac's and later only for Lion)
3: Mountain Lion 10.8 is reportingly coming out this summer and will not run on a lot of older Intel based Mac's because of heftier graphics requirements.
4: 10.6 has the widest range of current avaialble software and drivers for third party hardware.
My advice, stick with 10.6.8 and stay there, buy a new Mountain Lion machine after this summer. Skip Lion completely.

  • Xserve will not boot up, all lights flash rapidly

Just bought a lightly used Intel Xserve.  This unit was in a business that failed, and was set up, but never used.  Was powered off and unplugged for approximately 18 months.  When we tried to plug it up to check it out & configure it, we noticed the following:
System will not post and won't boot
Hard drives do not appear to spin
CD Drive appears to have no power - will not grab disk
All fans do work, and run on high RPM
All lights on back of server and front of server, as well as next to SDRAM slots, and on back of main board flash / flicker (regular quick flashes, no pattern evident).  The only light that does NOT come on at all is the light next to the power button.
Anyone heard of a similar condition?  Is this server toast?
    Thanks,
    Rob Hogan

I'm sorry to say I don't have a solution, but I can commiserate.
I have a G5 and two G4's, and so far within a few days / couple of weeks of getting them home and getting them up and running, they seem to fail.
    Usually spectacularily.
The G5 operates very much as yours in that power on, fans rev high, and no post or other activity; I don't get any system light status action however other than flashing. I've replaced CPU's and logic board on this.
The single CPU G4's does much the same, but this I've had up and running and then it went down when I upgraded the memory to max (very careful to make sure it was within Apple spec's), and despite swappinbg the original memory back in,nothing.
My latest, a dual core G4, was bought in working order, and I upgraded this from 10.4 to 10.5. Running nicely as a internet gateway. Went away for weekend so put it into sleep mode. Came back, power button on front panel stopped working, and one of the raid slices on the system drive failed.
Tried to repair this and system now no longer boots, but freezes on loading OS (spinning disc stops in mid spin) and it will not boot from installation disc via firewire or internal DVD drive (swapped in a replacement to ensure it works). The installation disc stops at the apple splash screen, but goes no further.
I can, helpfully, get into Open Firmware mode, so something is working on some level. Sadly, I can't seem to find a copy of the Apple Hardware Test for this machine (see my post on this) to check it out.
I can tell you that I'm getting very adept at working with Xserve hardware, if not very effectively.
My working hypothesis on this is that there is some issue with these units being used 27/7x365 for however long, and then being left 'off' for a prolonged period.
Thinking that whilst they are designed to operate reliably as constantly on and working under load, so facet of being 'off' breaks 'something'.
If really pushed to go out on a limb, I'd theorise that under load the electronics/IC's settle into position, but then when switched off things cool down, contract, and causes weaknesses in electrical connections to occur. When next used, these then start to fail, giving a pattern of initial operability followed by delayed failure with a cascade of increasingly servere symptoms until terminal failure is reached.
But that is wild, uneducated, conjecture.
So, no help, but I comiserate.
    XD Andy
btw, is anyone has some useful advice for me on where to find the AHT 2.0.1 for Xserve or even just the part number ... ... ...

  • X60/X61 not booting in docking-stations

    Hi everybody,
I just got antoher strange problem : two laptops (X60 and X61) do not
boot (Win XP)in their docking-stations : After showing the XP-Logo the screen
stays black and there is no activity on the hardisk (I waited for about
30 minutes); I also tried to boot inside the docking-station without a
lan-cable connected, but it also didn't work.
If you undock the laptops and boot them outside the docking-stations they
boot (Win XP) fine. When the logon-screen appears you can put them back
into the docking-stations and work with them as usual without any problem.
Is there a special driver that has to be installed or what do i have to do ?
    Thanx,
    Loathar
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    (1) Boot the laptop outside the dockings-station, plug it in before logon
    (2) Download the latest "Intel Matrix Storage Driver" and extract it
          to a new folder
    (3) Open the device-manager and goto the "IDE"or "Storage"-Controller,
select your SATA-Controller and click on the "drivers"-button.
Finally select the destination-folder from (2) to update the driver.
    (4) Reboot the system, check BIOS for "SATA=AHCI"-setting, and everything
           should be fine.
---> Installing this driver via "System-Update" seems not always to work properly !

  • Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

    Hi,
For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

Yes, I mean 3 Gigs total.  I read on Soyo\\\\\\\'s website that it\\\\\\\'s MoBo\\\\\\\'s do that and will only support 3 Gigs at 2100, hence me underclocking my RAM at 266 Mhz.  It would have been really useful if MSI\\\\\\\'s documentation would have said the same thing.  3 Gigs at 2700 is the reason my system would NOT even POST.  Where did you see that it only supports 2 Gigs at 2700?[/COLOR]
That's not unusual that you would have to do a fresh install of your OS to get it running properly. As far as RAM these boards are very sensitive to types of RAM so You may have trouble with your sticks. As far as 3 1 Gig sticks, unless you are doing some very heavy graphics it is probably overkill and you will find better performance with two sticks running in dual mode. Try it and see which way it runs better for you!
