2010 iMac Ejects Discs After About 10-15 Seconds. Help??

Hi guys, I just tried to put a DVD into my iMac and it ejects it after about 15 seconds. I tried another DVD and it does the same! Any suggestions? I bought the Mac December 2010 so I no longer have Apple Care. Please say it doesn't need a new drive!

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC; then, try again.

  • My 24" iMac won't read audio cds--ejects them after about 15 seconds

My 24" intel iMac won't read audio cds. It ejects them after about 15 seconds. I have virtually never played cds on this machine in five years. It plays dads with no problem. Anybody have any feedback. I also saw a fix by deleting some presence files.

I saw this on a forum from about four years ago:
    Trash the following folders:
    com.apple.kernelcaches (from System/Library/Caches
    extensions.kextcache (from System/Library
    CDInfo.cidb (from Home/Library/Preferences
    Restart
    Could this be a fix.
Unfortunately, I can't reset PRAM. I've done it a thousand times over twenty years, but my machine simply boots up without the extra chimes.

  • My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds

My 2007 intel imac ejects discs within 2 seconds.  The last time I used my disc hardware was to install software for a new Cannon all in one.  It worked perfectly.  I have tried many discs including one movie made on this same machine.  Pleease help me troubleshoot before I have to transport my computer to the Apple store.   Thank you in advance.

It could be that the laser has dust on it; a laser cleaning disk is available at stores which specialize in audio and video- BestBuy, or OfficeDepot would be a place to start. Run a cleaning session to see how that plays out. It could be the optical drive itself. The best approach is first to try steps that do not involve transporting your iMac as you indicate.

  • I've installed Flip4Mac WMV in Lion and when I try to listen to audio in some sites, it starts playing and after about 0.5 seconds it starts playing again. So, I have the same thing playing with a delay... What is happening and how to fix it?

So, I have the same thing playing with a delay... What is happening and how to fix it? Is there any other way to play theese kinds of files without using Flip4Mac WMV?

Use Flash Media Server to stream the files.......set up a timer and have all three of them play at once....and have a button switch the streams depending upon which stream you want to play.....and wallah......
you can also capture the stream.time from the video playing and resume from that point on the other videos as well....havent done this theoretically so I dont know how smooth the transistion between streams will be....but it can be done....
plus u may have to use double buffering techniques to make sure it starts up right away......

  • Superdrive ejecting discs after few seconds ...

    Hi,
Everthing worked well for 5 months ... After last update of the Tiger to 10.4.5 I have noticed that whatever type of disc I insert superdrive is ejecting it after few seconds. I've tried CD Audio , DVD's ever Tiger installation discs .. all were ejected after few seconds ...
Do you have any ideas what may be wrong ?
    it's strange ???
    Kind Regards
    Ralph

    hi ralph--
i would try various things for this. first i would boot to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. if that does nothing, then try an smu reset, which is quite simple for your model of computer. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446. also, install any available firmware updates for your computer. they are available on this page. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303903 if that doesn't do anything, then i would try disk repair http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672. and if that fails, then i would try the archive and install http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120. but if you archive, make sure you repair the disk beforehand, and do software updates after. i would not archive and install without go through the other troubleshooting steps. hope this solves your problem. • Mid-2010 iMac randomly freezing after last Windows 7 update.  Help!  I am a teacher and have 50 computers all behaving the same way.

I am a teacher and have 50 mid-2010 iMacs running Windows 7 in my classroom.  The computers did a Windows 7 automatic update on or around April 15, 2014.  After that, each computer randomly freezes.  Some are worse than others.  Most of the computers freeze when a USB drive is plugged in and also when a pop-up shows up on the screen - especially the Java update.  I have installed the most current Bootcamp drivers and run several anti-virus program searches.  I've also tried the Microsoft Fix-it program and almost everything.  Uninstalling the updates did not help.  Can anyone help me out?

based on what you wrote this  doesn't make sense
use system restore to rollback the machine prior to this update

  • IMac 9.1 has stopped playing DVDs, ejects them after about ten seconds without reading them

This morning my iMac has stopped playing DVDs altogether. It had been struggling to play them before, but now it won't even read them.
I'm running a 9.1, so the warranty is well past due. Not sure if there's anything I can do at this point to fix it, tried to manually eject the SuperDrive in Applications (as per a troubleshooting method) but that doesn't work either. Anyone know a way to fix this?

I would start first with some basic resets, do a SMC AND PRAM reset first, do each 2-3 times and then test. If you don't know how please click  Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. If those don't work then I suspect your SuperDrive is either dirty or worn out. You can go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit. If that fails then take the machine in for service.

  • Cannot eject disc after installing Mountain Lion OS X

after upgrading to mountain lion my optic drive would not eject CD-R's? After multiple failed attempts with apple tech support and believing the super drive to be faulty, I found that the ONLY solution to ejecting the disc was to put the Imac into "fire wire" mode by holding the T key while booting up, then once in fire wire mode hitting the eject key. I believe there is some flaw with the mountain lion OS at this time, that does not seem to work well with the optic super drive? store bought CD's seem to work just fine. Has anyone else experienced this same problem?

    hi Aime1984 / Ogelthorpe
My Mac came with ML so I don't have the luxury of rolling back to Lion.
I have just sent this response to Sky. I will update this thread as and when I get a reply.
    Hi there
    Thanks for your reply.
I must admit I'm a tad dissapointed in Sky that the current version of OSX isn't supported over 6 months after its release. Thing is on all of Sky's Sky Go advertising they say it is compatible with Mac. What they forget to say it isn't compatible if you buy a new one!
    Thanks in advance

  • How long does it take your mid 2010 iMac to boot after shutdown?

My imac has suddenly become alot slower upon boot up and i actually just bought this computer a few days ago. it's taking about 30+ seconds to boot up after a shutdown is that normal?

If you had a black out you may have damaged the machine if it wasn't hooked up to a battery backup. I would recommend you contact AppleCare (the number is in your owners manual) and see if they can help. One thing I would strongly advise is investing in a decent battery backup system, this will help with power surges and if you are in front of the computer when you have a black out provide enough battery power to do an orderly shutdown. If you get one that connects via USB to your computer you can also set some preferences such as what to do when the power comes back on.

  • Pioneer DVR-104 won't recognize/burn/eject disc. I am STUCK. Help?

    Hello.
I bought an iMac G4 800mhz flat panel model with DVR-104 superdrive recently.
It's was working perfectly until I tired to burn my 1st disc using Toast 7 (DVD-R). That's when things started messing up. I stuck the disc in and after "thinking" about it for a minute ejected it without any message -- it just spit it out.
I repaired file permissions, restarted, tried another disc and now I can't get the disc out. When i push the eject button i get the eject icon on the screen but the disc doesn't come out.
-Under Disc Burning in System Profiler it now says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly".
-Toast 7 says "no recorder found".
-When I restart the computer I get the message "Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Until I tried to burn a disc the drive had been working perfectly and a lot.
So to recap: There's a disc stuck in the Superdrive that my iMac doesn't think is there. Can I force eject?
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!
Oh BTW here's what is says under System Profiler about the Pioneer DVR-104:
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Revision: A216
    Serial Number: BCDL160039WL
    Removable Media: No
    Detachable Drive: No
    BSD Name: disk1
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 1
    Socket Type: Internal
    OS9 Drivers: No
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported

mrtotes thanks a lot for the suggestions! I didn't have to try the Target mode but I'll remember that one thanks.
With blank 8X DVD-R still stuck in iMac I ran Onyx (with everything in the Automation area checked√) and went to bed.
This morning I forgot it was in sleep mode & not turned off so I hit the power button to turn it on. It woke up, but the screen was frozen. I turned it off using the power button.
When I turned it back on the DVD in the drive started making that "clunk clunk" noise again trying to load (it had not been making any noises at all while stuck) while the computer was booting up. I held down the eject key & the mouse until it finished booting up. THE DISC CAME OUT. Whew!
I don't know if it was Onyx or me pushing the power button when it was asleep or that mouse/eject maneuver but it worked.
I guess I'll need to stick to 4X DVD-R for now if I can find any. Does anyone know where to get those now? I'm in Sacramento, CA.
Also, I have some Memorex 52X blank CDs. Do I dare try one of those or what speed should I use?
    Thanks!!

  • Not able to burn discs after itunes upgrade...HELP!

I've never had any issues with burning cds from my Mac and iTunes until yesterday. I've tried two different brands of CD-R discs (HP and Verbatim) and one CD-RW (Fujifilm). The CD-Rs initialize for a minute, then give me the following message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to record or retry." I discussed with another Mac user who said the same thing so she tried CD-RWs and it worked. I burned 10 of the 12 songs successfully-the last two ("Thriller" by MJ and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Benetar if you must know) were of poor quality-cutting in and out, skipping a lot.
Of course, I need to burn 28 by tomorrow morning for a U10 Girls Softball Nationals gift bag...Any assistance or advice is appreciated.
I feel like if I could just uninstall the newest version of iTunes that I'd be okay. Not sure if that is the right path and not sure how to do it.
    Thanks!

Me again. Figuring that I probably had too much stuff in my iTunes library taking up space, I went through and trashed a whole bunch of stuff. I emptied the trash, restarted the computer and am still unable to burn CDs. I figure it must be a problem with the latest iTunes update. Can anyone help?

  • Rendered footage lags after about 3-5 seconds of smooth playback

The project has a decent amount of sequences (25-30) and a total size of about 300GB and is running off of a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt 1TB Mobile drive w/ at least 300GB of free storage for the scratch disk. I let the project load up, generate peak files, and then I render the sequence out and try to play it back. It plays smoothly for around 3-5 seconds and then it starts to lag and play as though I'm trying to playback 4k footage with color correction without rendering.
    Any ideas?
Running Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.5) on a 2014 Mac Pro 3GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5 with 32 GB Ram and a AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB Graphics Card.

    Hey Kevin,
The drive is connected via Thunderbolt.
And to clarify, this issue is consistent in this project, but only this project.

  • TS1702 Sound bar disappears after about 5-10 seconds after restarting/resetting on iPad

Should clarify -it is on the iPad that the sound bar disappears. Comes back only for a few seconds after resetting, then goes away again.

Try these things and see if they help.
Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
Try closing all of the apps in the recents tray as well in the event that one of the apps is causing some weird conflict that is causing this. Tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles, then tap the minus sign in the corner of the icon. Close all apps, keep swiping to get to all of them. Restart the iPad and then see if the sound bar comes back and stays there.
