2010 really slow ~1 min start on test PC -- normal ~1 sec startup on development PC

Okay first my setups
Development PC
I'm running labview 2010 Pro
i7 core, XP SP3
Test PC
2010 runtime
Dual core 2.66GHZ
XP SP3
I'm having a really slow startup on my app on the Test PC. Like almost a minute. It sits there on the taskbar and does not come up. I click on it and nothing happens. I checked task manager and the CPU is at 1% and the app is using about 40MB ram.
I install the exe on the development machine and it comes up within seconds of clicking it? I know I have an i7 competing against a dual core. But when I see 1% I don't see it as a problem. My development PC runs about 4%-10% when the program is running. Maybe 8%-14% on test PC once its up.
The App itself is basically like Intel's UPNP device spy with some automation. All network communication.
Is there anyway to debug this? I know I can add to my app to see what's going on while its running. But what do I do while its starting up?
One other thing, I have is windows IIS installed on the development PC that I was using to send updates to network devices. The Test PC does not have IIS. But my app only checks to see if its running and then moves on. When I turn IIS off on my development PC the app still starts normal.
please help. I'm really not liking 2010 so far. I miss 8.6

Okay so i installed on more machines and they worked fine. Came right up.
So i went back to the test PC and replaced it with a new one, quad core. After the installer was done it asked to reboot for changes. A reboot looked as if the pc was never going to finish. It started to shut down and then would say installing updates and repeat the installing updates part. I turned the pc off and powered back on. That pc took 2minutes to start the app. Finally i connected the internet to the router on the network and the software app started right up.
Is labview embeding some network check? It works like clock work. i unplg the network and it takes forever to start. I plug the network in and it comes right up...
My setup has a routerfor DHCP and a 48 port POE network switch. I do not have the need for internet access. But it looks like im going to be forced to leave it connected to make this start up normal.
p.s. i did unplug the internet while the app was starting and i got some visualstudio.net message error. I dont have visualstudio installed on this pc. Maybe labview runtimes installs it? I did not see it in add/remove programs. This pc is has a fresh xp install with some standard software apps. I'm sure i have .net installed though.
Any ideas? Is labview tracking us secretly Im getting wireshark out tomorrow to see what the network traffic looks like.

  • Really slow to get started

Hi! Safari on my Mac waits a long time, like anywhere from 2 to 6 minutes, before it starts to load a page. The progress bar appears within a few seconds, but the page doesn't actually load for several minutes.
By contrast, if I launch Google Chrome, it is ready to use in a few seconds.
I like Safari better, so I would prefer to use it, but this problem has made me give up on it for weeks now!
Does anyone know why this happens, and how to correct it?
    Thanks.

  • When I am starting firefox after some time an error comes up that says unable to start script but it seems to work ok if I tell it to ignor . The error really slows the Firefox start.

I am assuming something has happened to a component of firefox. Also the tool bar does not come up and tells me to reinstall but I don't have a clue how or what to install

It sounds like there is something in the profile that synced to the new one. Does this also happen when you create a new profile and restore the information manually?

  • First Backup with TC: REALLY slow...

    Hello everybody.
I'm performing a 300 Gb backup with Time Capsule via wi-fi. It is REALLY slow. I started yesterday at 6.00 pm and now (10.20 am) I'm at 100 Gb which means that it will be done by tomorrow afternoon. Somebody is advising me to switch from wi-fi to an ethernet cable.
Is it possible to do that while it's backing up? I mean, is it enough if I connect my mac to TC with an ethernet cable without doing any other operation or do I have to click somewhere?

To be honest Matteo, you are averaging roughly about 6Gb per hour on wi-fi, that's reasonably good for time machine backing up to time capsule. Mine had averaged about 3GB per hour.

  • Ever since i upgraded to mountain lion, my macbook pro is really really slow

ever since i upgraded to mountain lion, my macbook pro (17" 2010 intel i7 4GB ram) is really really slow, specially at start up and shut down. any solution?
my hard drive is has about 200 GB free space, and i do regular varification for my drive. i almost regret upgrading to mountain lion :-(

Depending on the software you use (and how many programs you use at once) you may need to add more RAM. Shutdown with 10.8.2 is noticably longer than Lion's shutdown (and even slower than the original release of 10.8). I suggest you reboot your computer and immediately launch Activity Monitor. You want to watch two things: 1) RAM - as you use the computer over the next couple of hours after the reboot are you seeing the Page Out number increasing pretty quickly? That would be an indication that your computer is quickly using up RAM and pushing software and data into Virtual Memory to make room. This could account for the slow computer. 2) CPU - unless you are running some heavy duty software, your CPU usage may spike close to 80-90% for a few seconds but mostly hover in the 20-40% range. If it is higher than that, or if you see a single process using more than 70% constantly you may have a rogue process that is dragging the computer down.

  • Safari is really slow in my mini Mac

    Hi!
I hope somebody may help me figure out what i can do with my computer.
    - It is a mini Mac
    - OS X Version 10.9.2
    - Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    - Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (what ever that may mean!)
I have had it for almost 1.5 years, and for almost one year, Safari gets really slow, sometimes. Sometimes it works great, as if nothing, and sometimes it is so slow i cannot open any website at all.
Emails download fine, and other programms download fine at the same time that safari is not working, so i dont think it is the internet. Also, other devises using the same internet work fine.
Google chrome works fine, but i dont like using it because it takes too much RAM in the long term, and i have problems with Google Chrome in some websites like my bank. Firefox also works normally fine, but i also prefer the say Safari works (when it works)
I have checked the Start up. There is no programme running in when automatically when i Log in my account.
I have checked the Activity Monitor, and even though it is running a lot of programms that i dont really know, none of them is over 0%. And right now only Safari and Google Chrome are running over 2%. Google Chrome sometimes is taking over 30% CPU and hte Google Chrome Helper also, but normaly it takes less than 5%. Safari says many times, but they are all around 2%.
I have read that the "kernel_task" (which i also dont know what it is) takes a lot of Memory RAM. In my computer it is using around 400 MB, which is 5 times more than the programme following it which is Safari with 80Mb. Seems a bit much, it i doubt that it is what is really slowing down the computer.
    Could it be a virus?
Hoping that somebody may help. Thank you in advance!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Mac mini 2010 very slow after update to Mavericks

My mac mini 2010 (2.4 Ghz, 8GB ram) is running really very slow after updating to Mavericks.
Clearly OneDrive is a pain... but had it running on ML as well, and though it is a memory and CPU hog, it never really slowed down the system.

  • My MacBook Air just started running really slow

I have a MacBook Air and Safari started running really slow and I'm not sure why.  I'm not very tech savy, so I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
Select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • IBook G4 starting up really slow

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble with my iBook G4. It's starting up really slow. Even if it's only sleeping. I ran a hard drive test, no problems there, it said. The computer starts up and then works normally, but it's a really long wait.
Any ideas what could be the problem? It shows the apple logo and the "moving circle" for a long time. I'd appreciate help!

    annasip,
They checked it and found out nothing, and my iBook started up normally there
    Doesn't that always happen.
When the computer is having problems starting up, it makes this noise, like the same sound over and over again, sounds a bit like something is stuck. (pretty hard to describe when not speaking my mother tongue)
Uhhh your English is pretty d.. good. As good as most of us around here. Better than my Finnish...suomi something tu...
Anyway that sounds like hard drive problems.
(I just bought an external hard drive so space shoudn't be the problem)
FireWire I hope so get that puppy started up again and Carbon Copy Clone your entire hard drive to your external Firewire:
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
It's shareware so I have paid them something after using it like 50 times.
Once that's done you should be able to bootg up from your external drive. If that's slow you could try repairing disk permissions from Disk Utility (Did we talk about doing that on the internal drive also?)
If you continue to have problems you might have to repair or reinstall the OS on that external. Don't mess with the internal since it seems to be dying and we want to keep that alive as long as possible.

Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive (the drive itself, not the volume icons below it.) Is the SMART status "Verified?" If not, replace the drive immediately. If the status is "Verified," the drive may still be failing. Back up all data, if you haven't already done so. Reinstall Mac OS X, then run Software Update. Test with all wired peripherals disconnected. If it's still slow, you have a hardware problem.

  • Time Machine won't back up. Starts of REALLY SLOW, and the errors out.

I've been having a hard time getting time machine to back up. To start off I'll give you my specs and what I have done.
    iMac
    OS 10.6.6
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 DDR@ SDRAM
    320 GB HD
All software updates are current. I am trying to back up to an external Western Digital 1 GB drive connected by USB2. I have formatted the external drive, and set a single partition on that drive from the Disc Utility. I have run disk repair on both the external and local hard drive. I have run disk repair permission on the local drive. I have restarted, after every time. I have done everything listed above multiple times, and have done them all in kinda different orders each time.
My thought is that the issue may not be with the hard drives, but maybe a file its trying to back up. When it starts out for the first time, it tells me that it needs to back up over 100 GB of data. It gets about halfway done, and then errors out. When I try to start it again, it tells me that it needs to backup around 50 GB of data. And this time, its REALLY slow. Like bytes slow, not Mega bytes, or even kilobytes. Bytes. 36 bites backed up, 120 bytes backed up. 2 Kilobytes backed up. SLOW SLOW SLOW.
Then it picks up, and usually gets up to 120 MB, and then gives me this error message "The Backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. - The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
Its a pretty generic message, and gives me no help in trying to figure out what the problem is. I've been trying again for almost 3 days now, and nothing is working. Is there an error log file that I can go find that would help me a little more?

See #C3 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

Tell Apple about the inadequacy of that message: http://www.apple.com/feedback/timemachine.html

How large is your HD AND how much space do you have left? When was the last time you repaired permissions and restarted your computer? Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu.  When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • ICal starts and runs really slow

I have a prblem with iCal working really slow. It takes almost a minute to start up and every added or modified event just ... mrrr ... it is so slow. What can I do ? I have the latest version of iCal on brand new Powerbook 12" on macOS X 10.4.3

This appears to be a general problem likely related to the change in the way Tiger handles iCal files. Because of Spotlight, each item has to be an individual file in order to be searchable. I think this puts a huge burden on iCal for those of us with lots of calendar items.
If you create a new user and then create an iCal calendar, is it still slow? It is not for me, which means it has something to do with my main user account, which has events going back to 1996.
Here is a thread with some fixes (delete preferences, reimport data, etc), but none seem to work for me. Your mileage may vary.
