2011 2.3GHz Mac mini screen flickers

Hi,
Guys, I'm really out of ideas. I'm using a mid-2011 2.3GHz Mac mini on a Samsung SyncMaster XL2370HD screen. The flickering seems to begin in the evening, after moderate use during the day. At first I believed it was a result of plugging in my earphones (I use them almost exclusively at that time), but I soon found out it has no effect. It's as if the screen dozes off for some seconds and quickly recovers, when sometimes, after intense flickering sessions, it just goes blank, in which case I have to restart the screen. To be more accurate, it's as if the connection to the Mac mini is lost; the screens works just fine. Most people who'd experienced screen problems used some sort of an Apple screen, so most of the advice given to them is irrelevant to me. I use the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and a DVI-to-DVI cable. Any help would be much appriciated!

I use the same connection with my 2010 Mini and an LG display.
1. Check your connections to be sure that they are all snug and firmly plugged in.
2. Try a different DVI Cable.
3. Reset your Mini's PRAM, as per > Resetting your Mac's PRAM
Then if that does not help, take the Mini and Adapter to your local AASP and have them checked out. as per > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

  • Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini?

    Hey guys and girls...
Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini? If so how?

WHS is 64-bit. Genius are really not versed in Boot Camp or Windows, let alone anything not on the "approved" list of Windows versions.
Most of the problems are with burning ISO, or the SuperDrive. It should have seen the NTFS partition. Disk Utility is known to be trouble, burning it on your Mac Mine but iwth Windows 7....?
Seeing you have Windows 7, format the partition to NTFS 160GB you want and then exit and boot WHS installer.
Or run the install from Windows 7.
In past, WHS supported TimeMachine, streaming video, supported iTunes (that was broken/disabled it seems by Apple with 10.0), as well as even SuperDuper backups.
Main idea is to have some network attached drives.

I have both a ISO and Burned it to a dvd useing windows 7 built in ISO burning software, Its a 64 bit copy (got from microsoft download website from my dads microsoft account).
It is enouth for the OS but it runs slowish on the mac mini (latest core 2 duo 2.4ghz model) The Idea was to have it backup my pc and laptop to a usb drive and act as a media centre pc (connected to av receaver and tv and on a gigabit network with a 2TB nas)
Since it looks like this may not work, whats the best way to make it into a media centure? mac osx? windows 7? plex? whats best and good?
I'd avoid USB like the plague. Why not use your PC instead? If I was going to use a Mini for WHS, I'd just use the Mini solely for Windows and not have OS X (you can boot OS X off an external drive anyway).

If you have done all of the above i would call Apple care or setup an appointment at a Apple Store for them to diagnose and replace.

  • Is there a noticeable difference from a 2gb ram to 8gb ram on 2.3ghz mac mini?

Just asking if it is worth upgrading to 8gb on my 2.3ghz mac mini with 2gb of ram in it.

Ram is so darn cheep.  I would always opt for more ram up to 8 GB just in case I need it someday.

  • 2011 i5 2.5Ghz Mac mini screen flicker issue...

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I have my 2011 Mac mini connected via HDMI to my TV, and each time I turn the TV on,- after about 5 minutes I get one single flicker where I lose picture and it comes back immediately. This never happened with my 2010 Mac mini connected the same way, which is why I'm surprised.
Again, this only happens once. After I turn the TV off and then back on, it will do the same thing again after 5 minutes. Very odd.
    Thanks, guys.

After 3-4 calls to the support the last thing I was asked to open the terminal and digit :
    cd /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DysplayVendorID-410c
push enter. You'll get a warning but you can continue.
    Then :
    sudo mv DisplayProductID-0 DisplayProduct-0 old
push enter and restart the mac.
the person on the phone told me that this solution is studied for a known issue with Philips screen, and exactly blank screen not fl ickering.
In any case it didn't work for me
I'm starting to think that maybe it's something about new macs and Lion. I have seen discussions in which people complain about flickering issue with the new MBA.
On Monday I'll call the support and then ask for a new mac, still don't know which one,I bought mine less than 14 days ago.
Hope this will be fixed soon.

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • HP w2207h with Mac Mini screen clipping trouble?

    Hi,
My HP monitor is connected to the Mac Mini using the HDMI cable. The monitor seems to almost be working right. The only problem is the edges of the screen are cut off in the monitor. The Apple menu bar is completely cut off at the top and part of the Dock is cut off at the bottom. I have cycled through every resolution available in the Display settings in the Systems Preferences. I have also tried to use the physical menu on the monitor with no luck. I cannot seem to fix this. Any solutions?

You can use HDMI cable with HP w2207h directly,No need for other cable. but please follow these step.
1.Find LCD tv to set up first step.
2.Connect HDMI cable to LCD TV(i use Samsung) and adjust to HDMI source.
    3.Open Mac mini.
    4.Open system preference.
5.Click "display"  you will see that the primary setting is :1680*1050  that  HP monitor did not support.
6.Unplug HDMI cable from LCDtv (no need to shut down) and plug into HP w2207h.
7.the screen still blinking, it is ok.
8.On HP monitor,  Push down button  "Select" and "+"  and the same time and hold it.
9.Use mouse or down button on keyboard to choose screen resolution to be "1600*900"
    10. Then the screen will not blinking and you can use your lovely HP w2207h
if you want a high resolution on screen.
1.Buy new LED monitor that support 1680*1050  resolution.
2.Buy Mini displayport to DVI for digital signal   Mini>DVI>HDMI.
Enjoy your MAC. because i am new Mac user with my MAC mini 2011

  • 2011 or 2012 Mac Mini

    Hi Folks,
I need to move fairly qiuckly on this. I am looking to upgrade from an 2008 imac to a 2012 mac mini. My mac provider has offfered me a 2011 see spec below
Mac Mini, Manufactured March 2012, 2.3Ghz Intel Core i5, 4GB of Ram / 500GB HD.
Now is it worth paying out the extra 200 euro for a brand new 2012? I keep coming articles where its saying the 2011 has faster integrated graphics than the 2012. What exactly deos 'integrated Graphics' mean? I do graphic design as a living and the reason I am upgradign is that CS6 is killing my imac, so will CS6 suffer on the 2012 mac mini?

An integrated graphic card is just a graphic card that uses the memory of your computer instead of having its own RAM.
FYI, the HD3000 or HD4000 integrated graphics actually
share real estate on the same chip as the CPU, i.e.
integrated.  There have been many discrete graphics
chips that share system memory with the 2010 Mini
as an example as quoted from spec sheet:
"NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory"
Therefore, just using system memory does not make
    a graphics solution "integrated".
Since an integrated graphics solution shares the same chip
real estate as the CPU, there are a lot of limitations that have to
be made in performance because of this.

  • Mac mini screen res changes through gcs634u

I have a mac mini and use it via a 2port Iogear kvm to a HP2408 @1920x1200 resolution. I just bought a new 4port Iogear 634u but when i connect the mac it changes the resolution to 1280x1024 and does not give me the option to do 1920x1200 at all. If i connect the monitor directly or thru the 2p kvm it works just fine... any ideas ?

Hi, only idea I have is from some reviews...
The device doesn't seem to consistently and reliably relay accurate EDID information from the monitor
It has managed to negatively impact the monitor - as much as I have messed with the settings, the left edge of my screen is off the monitor.

  • Mac mini screen resolution not synced with monitor

Hello! I have a Mac mini at home, equipped to an hp w2408h monitor via HDMI cable. Recently, I went to my friends' house with my Mac, plugging it in to their projector and playing Minecraft. However, I had to adjust the screen resolution, and once I got back and set everything up again, the monitor said I need to 'adjust screen resolution'. Is there any way to reset/sync/calibrate the resolution to the monitor, or do I have to go back and readjust the settings? Thanks! :3
