2011 iMac Boot Camp 3DMark Scores

So I got my new iMac a few days ago with intent of running Boot Camp for gaming in Windows 7, and all day to day computer operations in OSX. I am slightly disappointed in its performance so far when running games like Crysis 2 at higher settings. Some of this may improve with driver updates but according to AMD driver updates when using boot campy have to come from Apple, so GPU driver updates may be few and far between.
I was interested in seeing what everyone else running the new 2011 iMac's are getting in 3DMark06 and 11 when using boot camp.

The Hatter,
Which driver are you talking about specifically? Are you talking about the Catalyst Software Suit here:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
I have downloaded multiple drivers from AMD saying they are for the AMD Radeon HD 6970m but they each either don't apply at all or say that no compatible hardware was found? When i called AMD they told me that any support and driver updates for graphic cards used in Apple computers would have to come from apple? Have you had success from drivers downloaded from the AMD website?

  • Which version of Windows XP (SP1, SP2, SP3?) can I install on Mac Pro 2011 using Boot camp

I am planning to install Microsoft XP on my Mac Pro 2011 using boot-camp. Since there are multiple versions available (Home, Professional, Pro with SP1, SP2, and SP3's etc…) I am finding hard to decide which one is the tested and best available option?
Also any other specific features to consider while purchasing this OS.
    Please advise…

However, I am not clear what you guys wanna say here, I simply want to know Which windows XP can I install on Macbook Pro (Laptop) using boot camp?
I will repeat what I already said given that you told us that you are running Lion on a newer MacBook Pro.
You should visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
And you should read the Boot Camp Help documents http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
XP, regardless of version, is not going to work on a newer computer nor will it work if you are running Lion OS.

Sorry.  This is my first message to this forum and it was posted accidentally before I could finish it.  There doesn't seem to be any way to remove it and start over.  Anyway,  I got a new imac about a month ago and created a windows 7 boot camp partition for gaming.  I have read that the imac's temperature and fan control do not work in boot camp and there is a danger of overheating.  Will I need something like the smc fan control program to cool the machine in boot camp?  I've searched this forum and other sites for an answer but so far haven't found anything so I thought I would pose the question myself.

  • IMac Boot Camp Problem

    Hey!
I have a late 2009 iMac 27 inch and trying to install Windows 7 via boot camp.
The internal disc drive is blocked, so I have to use an external superdrive (i use apples external drive).
But after I've created the partition and the computer restarts, the screen goes black and it says "no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key".
It seems that Windows doesn't recognize the Apple external superdrive with the Windows disc in it.
    What should I do?
    Thanks

    Hello,
No panic, download the ISO on Internet, and burn it to an USB Stick. Then go to System Preferences, and to Start Up (maybe, I don't know, I am French...) and select the boot device, then hit reboot. To burn the ISO to the USB stick, go there : http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net, and the ISO from Windows 7 is here : http://www.techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-serv ers/, but don't forget to activate it to avoid viruses and to get a "Microsoft Original Software"

  • Boot camp Window 7 on iMac

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to install Window 7 on my iMac 2011 using Boot Camp Assistance. Half way through the process, my computer restarts and there is just a grey blank space.
How should I go about solving this problem?
Thanks a lot for your help.

The window installer does not start either. I tried holding down Option key to choose either Boot Camp or the normal drive but it still shows a blank space.

  • My mid 2011 imac will not let me use the efi update

I cannot put win 8 on my imac mid 2011 with boot camp. Getting an error \boot\bcd\  and I also see an efi drive when i hold the alt option button down. I had win 7 on a partition with boot camp and it is now reformatted.

Please try below solutions to see if any of these works.
    1.- Close Elements.
    - Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    - Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
4:On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Boot Camp won't partition my disc because it says I need to reformat as a single mac os extended (journaled) even though it already is.

I'm trying to partition my Macbook Pro early 2011 with Boot Camp Assistant so I can run Windows 7, however when I tell it to create the partition I get an error that says:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. ... Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
Problem is, my Macbook is already a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled)! Any idea of what I should do to get around this? Do I have to wipe and restore my files? I'm using Boot Camp 4.0.1

    The problem:
You are asking for more contiguous space than is available on the drive.
    The drive is highly fragmented.
Here's what you need to do:
Request a smaller Windows partition. If that isn't feasible then do the following:
    Cheap and Easy Defragmentation
You will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive.
      1. Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the
           external one.
      2. Boot from the external hard drive.
      3. Erase the internal hard drive.
      4. Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive and click on the upward pointing arrow button.
    After startup do the following:
    Erase internal hard drive
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the
drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is
failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be
reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the
           DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the
drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait
           until the process has completed.
Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure.
I've come across this problem myself, so I attempted this procedure, although I receive an input/output error when trying restore my internal hdd to my external. I have never a problem with either. Could I instead create an image using DU and save it to the external drive then extract that image to my internal drive later? If so, is there any additional steps I need to take?

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...

Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

  • Boot Camp 4.0 on MacBook Pro With USB

I'm trying to install Windows 7 onto a Macbook Pro  (2011) with Boot Camp 4.0 (i.e. not the one that lets you make a usb installer for computers without an optical drive). I have a NTFS formatted install USB made with Microsoft's ISO tools. Boot Camp won't recognize it as an install disk and when I try to boot from it, it doesn't show up in the boot menu. Is there any way I can install from the USB drive?

  • 2011 iMac won't install Windows 7 in Boot Camp

I'm attempting to install Windows 7 x64 on my 2011 (Thunderbolt) iMac via a burned, bootable DVD which was previously used to install Windows 7 x64 on my friend's MacBook Pro. Apparently, the disc works. After partitioning one of my internal drives in Boot Camp, downloading the drivers and stuff Apple provided, putting that stuff on a FAT-formated flash drive, then attempting to install Windows, the install fails. Well, it doesn't really fail. Before I'm even given the option of installing, right after clicking the "start setup" button in the Windows Installer, I get an error saying "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok." I go to scan and browse the flash drive for the drivers which Apple provided, and I get the same message over and over again regardless of what I click. I ran Software Update before doing any of this, and I have also attempted to install the x32 version of Windows 7 as well, as to no avail. I would try burning the Apple-provided drivers and stuff to a CD or DVD, but obviously there is no way to insert such a disc into the drive since the Windows disc is already in.
These are my computer's specs, if they matter:
    2011 Thunderbolt iMac
2TB storage, partitioning 100GB for Windows
    3.4GHz i7 quad-core
    16GB RAM
    Radeon 6970 with 2GB VRAM
...attempting to install Windows 7 Home Premium (I think) x64 (or x32 if I have to)

Update: I've successfully installed Windows by re-burning my Windows .iso image at 4x. The install went smoothly, but Windows is now unable to boot. After installing and going through its series of reboots, then fails to boot after restarting (after given the option to select what method of updating you want Windows to use).
This is some of the stuff Windows says, on a black screen with white text, when the boot fails:
    mcfg 0x8ee39000 0x3c 0x8ee0f000 0x195000 0x3

I've dug  through various archived forum postings in the programming bowels of the internet. Apparently there was/has been/is a known issue in which Macs refuse to boot Windows when the Mac in question has a 2TB hard drive. This is due to some GRUB issue or something.
I have no idea what to do. I need Windows, and I'm quite sure no Genius appointment will help me solve this problem. So much for a Mac seamlessly running Windows via Boot Camp.
