2011 iMac, OS X 10.7.5 Lion is missing iPhoto, iMovie, iMessage and Garage Band

I purchased a little used 2011 iMac last night. OS X 10.7.5 Lion is missing iPhoto, iMovie, iMessage and Garage Band, which according to this Apple page should be included Apps on iMacs: http://www.apple.com/imac/built-in-apps/
Lion Recovery also appears to be missing, as restarting while holding down the Command-R keys is not working after half a dozen tries.
How do I restore at least iPhoto, which I need and use daily?
I thought of buying and installing Mountain Lion, but near as I can tell from the Apple site, iPhoto is NOT included.
I DO have Snow Leopard discs from my old iMac and could revert so as to get back to work, but if the Lions can be made to purr, I'll stay and try to work out my minor quibbles.
Thanks for your consideration,
Blandz

Thanks for the additional info!
Yes, those are the very arrows of which I speak. I happen to be using Firefox at present and took a screen shotshot of my basic desktop layout. Although "Dummy" widows are shown, they represent the esential windows I access frequently while doing other tasks.
At any time, one or more windows may be covered by others, but they are always "in their place" so that by clicking on upper corners they quickly appear. Note in particular the right side windows. Where I would click the corner to expose a partially hidden window, Lion chose to put the diagonal full screen arrows. Unless I'm VERY careful to click to either side of the arrows (and this extra care defeats the whole QUICKNESS factor), the window then opens FULL screen..., annnoying, unproductive and not at all useful to my work processes.
Hence my goal to send the arrows to their grave. Should I succeed, I'll continue going forward with new versions of OS X, and that would be my preference.
Be well,
Blandz

  • Is iPhoto and iMovie and garage band on Lion reinstall thumb drive from Apple??

Is iphoto and imovie and garage Band On the Os x Lion reinstall thumb Drive Sold By Apple???

No.  iLife is a separate product that is bundled with the purchase of a new Mac, not the purchase of a new OS.
So, anyone with an older Mac would have pay for an upgrade to iLife in addition to paying for an upgrade to Lion.
On a positive note, you can now upgrade separate components in the App Store (i.e. iPhoto), instead of paying for the complete iLife suite

  • No iLife, iPhoto and Garage Band on Mac OS X Lion?

I recently installed mac os x lion. Before that I had Snowlepord with all iLife,iPhoto and garage band app. Now on new lion OS I don't have any of those. Do I need to download them again ?

You shouldn't have lost any apps unless you did a fresh install and didn't have a backup.
Were they preloaded, via retail disc or did you purchase through the app store?
If preloaded, find the discs that came with your mac, those apps will be on the 2nd disc
For retail, find the DVD and reinstall
For the app store, go to the purchased tab and reload.

  • IMovie and Garage Band gone after Mountain Lion upgrade.

I upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion by buying it in the itunes store and uploading it.  Now, imovie and garage band are gone.  I have nothing in My Purchases, as these came with my mac when I bought it, and I don't think I have a cd.  Can I get these back without buying new?

As shldr said, iLife applications (iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, iDVD and iWeb) came preinstalled on your Mac, so if you made a clean install of Mac OS X, they were deleted because Mac OS X doesn't include iLife apps.
In order to install the iLife applications again, you need the Applications DVD that came with your Mac, so insert it and follow the steps to install your iLife applications. If you haven't got the DVD, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 After installing the applications, open Apple menu > Software Update to install the most recent version

What are you refering to here? Mac OS 9 came out around 2001 ( or about ).  Mac OS 9 last run  in an emulation mode in 10.4.11 -- Tiger.  Mac OS 9 ran on PPC machines that were last produced before 2004 or so.
I think your conclusion you need Mac OS 9 is incorrect.

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.6.8), need to upgrade system to 10.8
We need to verify some information.  Are you really running 10.6.8?  What hardware?
Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:
Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.
    click on this icon
Click on the first line, "About This Mac"
Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.
What version & Processor do you have?

  • How do I install iMovie HD and iDVD on a new iMac?

    I have a new iMac, running 10.9.3.
I want to install iMovie HD and iDVD on this iMac.
I have the old install disks.
    How should I proceed?
    Thank you,
    Hal

The improvements provided by iDVD 7 over version 6 are not confined to themes.
Happily having two version of iMovie is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI transmits no audio on 2011 iMac with Lion 10.7.2

    Hello everyone. I'm new here.
I have a 2011 iMac which was shipped with Lion and I updated to 10.7.2. I am trying to connect my iMac to my televison to play my movies, etc by using the HDMI connection. No VGA connection on this TV, which is what I used to use before upgrading computer and TV. I ordered a MDP to HDMI adapter from ebay which says it supports audio. The seller is reputable and I do not see any issues from their other customers.
I have the MDP to HDMI adapter connected to an HDMI cable connected directly to my 46" Panasonic LCD. The video transfers perfectly, but audio continues to be played from computer's internal speakers. I've read through as many posts as I can find. I see many which tell you to select HDMI in System Preferences>Audio. There is no option for HDMI here. I only see "Internal Speakers" as the output option.
I called AppleCare and even spoke with a Senior Advisor. They say I need to buy one of the two adapters they recommend in their support article. (I get the impression that they just wanted me off the phone.) Those are overpriced and I think this adapter should work, as I see other customers of this same product are satisfied.
I've tried resetting PRAM and also SMC. I've taken a look at the audio settings on my televison, all to no avail. I don't understand why HDMI would not be shown in Audio under System Preferences. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

    Same problem.
All my equipment is directly from Apple, except two items bought December 2011, namely a 24" Sony Internet TV and a high end HDMI cable bought from Sony.
My Macbook Pro 15" with its 10.7.2 Lion and Intel Core 2 Duo let's me plug in a Moshi DP HDMI adapter via the HDMI cable to the Sony Internet TV.
By selecting the source on the Sony TV, I can get the display working. My Macbook refused to see the Sony TV until I switched to Mirror Display, but now I can switch between the two display modes fine with no problems.
But the audio does not work.
Really rather annoying, considering that there have been problems with this feature in several OS X generations now - after apparently working fine once upon a time.
Dear Apples, kindly could you tell me when you will re-introduce audio support through DP HDMI connectors?
    Peter

  • 2011 iMac, Lion, iPod 3G, FireWire - charge yes, sync no

I'm posting this in both the iPod community and in the iMac community. My appologies to any who are bother by this...
I just bought a 2011 iMac (21.5 w/ 2.5GHz i5) and it came w/ Mac OS X Lion (currently at 10.7.2). I have a WD MyBook Studio connected to the single FireWire 800 port w/ an appropriate cable. The MyBook works just fine all the time. I have an old 3rd generation iPod (3G, 10GB) that I have been using for years via FireWire 400 on various PowerMacs, older iMacs, a couple of eMacs and even a Dell running XP Pro. I just picked up a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter that I plugged into the second FireWire 800 port on the back of the MyBook external HD. My iPod started charging as soon as I plugged in my genuine Apple iPod-FireWire cable that came w/ the iPod. To my dismay, the iPod makes no indication that it is connected to a computer and the computer makes no indication that it is connected to and iPod. I unmounted my MyBook drive and disconnected the cable from the back of the iMac. I then plugged the FW800-400 adapter directly into the back of the iMac and plugged in my iPod. No change. The iPod charges just fine but won't connect in any way. To be certain that my iPod and cable are OK, I fired up my old eMac (I'm glad I haven't put it on eBay yet) and the iPod works great. I can sync w/ iTunes and use disk access to move files on and off the iPod from the Finder. My eMac is running 10.4.11.
My next attempt was to check if the iPod is compatible w/ Lion and the latest iTunes (10.5.3) so I used a USB cable that came w/ my much newer iPod Classic 120GB. The old iPod 3G connected right away, synced and everything is fine. I tried turning off disk use as a post online mentioned this as a possible solution. I ejected the iPod and moved over to the FireWire cable. No change, charges fine but no connection. I tried the cable yet again w/ the eMac and everything is fine. I even tried my iPod Mini. That too works great via the FireWire cable on the eMac but only charges via FireWire on the iMac. The iPod Mini works fine via USB as well. I also tried both the iPod 3G and Mini w/ the FireWire cable on my Dell w/ an off-brand FireWire PCI card. Works perfectly. Both iPods are up to date according to iTunes. Even iTunes 10.5.2 on the Dell under Win XP Pro says it's all up to date. Yes, they are "Windows" iPods so I can connect them to any computer in a pinch.
If I can use USB for all of my iPods, then why am I worrying about FireWire? It's all about convenience. The battery in my iPod 3G doesn't last all that long. When connecting via USB, it communicates but doesn't charge (it needs the 12V of FireWire to charge even though it has USB capability). Bad things can happen if the iPod's battery dies during syncing. Connecting via FireWire not only takes care of the battery issue but it is also noticeably and measurably faster syncing files over FireWire than USB (I've done an apples to apples comparison of this in the past). I also paid $1200 for this iMac and another $10+ for the FW800-400 adapter. It should work. Apple has a number of articles that say FW800 is 100% backwards compatible w/ FW400. I can't find anything out there that tells me it shouldn't work and lots of things telling me it should work fine.
Can anyone shed light on why my iPod won't connect via FireWire to my new iMac.

It sounds like your talking about iPod (dock connector) from 2003, And a Mini from 2004?

  • On 2011 iMac, External Altec Lansing speakers no longer work after upgrading to Mountain Lion. They DO work on a lenovo machine but not my imac

On 2011 iMac, External Altec Lansing speakers no longer work after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
They DO work on a lenovo machine but not my iMac. reset Pram - no luck. took speakers from wife's desktop, they
do not work when jack plugged into my iMac - Sys Prefs "SOUND" only lists "internal speakers/ built in" as available options.
I used my altec lansing speakers on 3 macs including this one for 5-6 years.....now with Mountian Lion I can only get internal speakers???
Ideas? Any/All help would be greatly appreciated - been going nuts with this for 2 days now.

    Hi,
When you start Messages fro the first time you are asked for an Apple ID
When this is verified and entered it appears in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts and is Enabled.
The App should have also picked on on those iChat Accounst you had before.
These should be Enabled if they were when you last used iChat.
Exactly which "Accounts" are logged in can be seen in Message Menu > Accounts and will include the iMessage "Account" and Bonjour.
In the Window menu you will see CMD +0 for the Messages window and CMD+1 for the "Buddies" window which is a combined list at this stage.
Go to the Preferences > General Section and Untick the "Collect all accounts into one list".
This will give you separate iChat type Buddy lists.
You can check if that account/Buddy list is set to Invisible or if in the Preferences > Accounts > Security you have settings that will block some people from seeing you as On line.
You are saying Buddies can see you as On Line which implies they are still sending to your AIM based Names (@Mac.com is a valid AIM Screen Name)
I am not sure from your post if you are trying to iMessage their email IDs thinking they are Apple IDs and that they are using Messages as well.
There is no Buddy list for iMessages side
No-one can tell you are "On Line" until they have your details in the "To" spot in Messages with the correct iMessaged contact info (iPhone Number or Apple ID)
Obviously an Apple ID can be an email or look like one.
In some cases they are also valid AIM Screen Names as well.
In the case or the @mac.com name you may have linked this Apple ID to iMessages as well.

  • PC Games and peripherals on Windows 7 on Lion on mid-2011 iMac. Possible?

Sorry for the long marquee, but I want to get anecdotal-experience answers on this convoluted subject before I waste a couple months of my fairly-rapidly-closing life --carpe diem. all y'all -- on something that's doomed from the very start.
For reasons I can't quite fathom (relative installed population, maybe), there are very few racing sims -- none, as far as I'm concerned -- for the Mac. That's most def not true for the PC -- I've been a Mac-only user since 1989, but the PC has always been -- when working -- a pretty good gaming platform (ALL it's good for AFAIC), with tons of titles, and the ability to accomodate multi, MULTI-axis controllers, like force-feedback steering wheels with gas, brake, and clutch pedals, and gearshift. I know of nothing like that for the Mac, even if there were racing sims that would run on a Mac.
So here's what I need to know: if I had a Boot Camp partition on my home drive (Macintosh HD), with a 32-bit or 64-bit (full version) of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate (necessary for my Mid-2011 27" iMac running Lion or above) installed on that partition, could I then install PC racing sims on that Boot Camp Windows 7-whatever Platform, and be able to use multi-axis controllers, like a Thrustmaster wheel, pedal, and shifter set?
Please, if anyone has been able to do this, by whatever means, on a mid-2011 iMac running OS X 10.7.x or above, I'd be eternally grateful if you could share your experience.
    Thanks!
    Bart

Seeing as how there are about 117 different versions of 64-bit Windows 7 out there, is there any particular version that is more advantageous -- in the case of Microsoft products, that means less bug-ridden -- for use on Boot Camp? I've seen reasonably priced ($66) versions like this:
"Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit FULL - BRANDED"
But then the description consists of this mangled English:
"This product will be branded HP, Dell, etc. but will do a FULL install on any brand computer and includes a DVD and COA. This is only unique to branded? [sic -- BB] OEM Windows products and not to non branded OEM Windows products. If you are the person people always seem to ask for help when their computer isnt right you should be fine with this. If you are not that kind of user you may want to stick to a non branded oem. Once again this only applies to Mac users [really sic -- BB]."
This is the only part of the description on this product page that even mentions "Mac users," and I'm left wondering if this "FULL - BRANDED" 64-bit version of Windows 7 will work OK on a Boot Camp partition on an OS X 10.7.x -- 10.8.x iMac.
Knowing all too well what a rat's-nest Windows has been since it was first foisted upon an unsuspecting public in 1985, with security problems that, after nearly 30 years, have still not been addressed, I want a 64-bit version of Win 7 that's going to give me the least amount of grief on my Boot Camp partition.
As this thread seems to be pretty much a dead letter, as many discussion threads become after an answer is provided, should I create a new question titled:
"Which 64-bit version of Windows 7 will work best on a Boot Camp partition on an OS X 10.7.x -- 10.8.x iMac?"
    Thanks again!
    Bart

  • My Mid-2011 iMac with pre-installed Lion can't load AHT (Apple Hardware Test) over internet

I have a Mid-2011 iMac (3.4GHz) of which Apple's Support document for the Apple Hardware Test (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509) says:
Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet. These computers will start up to an Internet-based version of AHT if the hard drive does not contain AHT.
Well, this doesn't work for me. My Mac is on a DHCP-supporting router which has constant internet connection. Yet, when I turn off the Mac and then on again, holding the D key down even before the screen turns on, the Mac does indeed react to this key as it's then turning the screen on and taking another about half minute before it continues with the boot process along with showing the Mac symbol. Without the D, the Mac symbol comes up quickly.
So, it appears that the iMac is indeed trying to get AHT over the internet. Just that it doesn't succeed in it, and probably timing out after a while.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

    Re
    extract from kb article
PPPoE (where there is no router handling the PPPoE connection)
    No
    No

try check if you are in that case for your internet acces ?
could be a firewall problem too , if is possible try desable firewall ( or any internet filter )
no you can not see a wifi selection if you are wired ( using cable )
by the way D key for AHT need to be pressed AFTER start up sound , and hold at min one minute
